weeks, not days...

i opened my SP30, vacuum wouldnt budge the gunk, too tacky - high humidity.

toothbrush sorted em right out. still no hashing though >frowny face<

bit of a mission to get to the bottom board but why not eh.

has anyone discussed the 'reset button' on the MMC board anywhere?

Most who I have heard of use a recovery SD.   Would be interesting on reset button, not sure what you will get there.

recovery SD is step 1

If MMC board is faulty, boot SD is required

If recovery & boot fail then the board needs replacing as explained by Guy recently (ish)

i just received shipping notification of the ribbons & the SP30 MMC board, no mention of SP20E board...

>500 hours downtime for SP20E & SP30... over 21 days of stalled communications with @support.

both my SP20E & SP30 are STILL offline with seemingly dead MMC boards.

Multiple emails to @support have gone unanswered.

STILL waiting on the experimental SD card/firmware...

STILL waiting on ribbon cables...

STILL waiting on a reply that isnt 'karma-derp/mail@support'...
1064  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Unofficial Spondoolies SP20 thread on: March 23, 2015, 02:48:22 AM
[We don't cut corners (e.g. embedded controller, etc) and we use dc2dc which means that the BOM is higher.]

If you don't cut corners then why didn't you install an internal microSD card Huh

I had to go buy one in an attempt to revive several DOA SP20s. I had to go to 3 stores before I found a card and reader ($19) for this thing I'll never use for any other purpose.

AntMiners have an internal SD card so one can reset factory settings by pressing a button.

VERY good point!!

Also, why do you (SP-T) fail to reply to multiple @support mails for weeks on end & 'secretly/privately' offer to ship experimental SD cards for $35.00USD while publicly offering to post the firmware for free but never actually doing it???

its all a bit peculiar...

This might be the easiest most professional solution.

thx for the link - have had a fiddle and seems ok but i dont own most of those coins.

plus i dont want to store much on something im unfamiliar with.

at the very least its open so shouldn't be long before something bigger/better arrives.

STILL waiting to hear back from SP-T wrt my dead SP20E & SP30...

Double e-mail support@?

at least.

they seem to be confused/unsupportive.

one day im getting told 35 usd for experimental SD card , another day its free (but non-forthcoming)

now i need (apparently) MMC/control boards replacing - its gone quiet...again.

the only way i seem to get a response is resorting to posting here and waiting to be told to contact '@support' AGAIN

@takagari - CONGRATS, my last half dozen 'fixes' have been bizarre.
1067  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Spondoolies-Tech - carrier grade, data center ready mining rigs on: March 15, 2015, 04:21:15 AM
Have i been banned from the Official thread for having a dead SP20E and a dead SP30???

First time ive been unable to post on that thread... wtf??
1068  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Spondoolies-Tech - carrier grade, data center ready mining rigs on: March 11, 2015, 03:46:07 AM
just received a nice 35cm x 47cm x 20cm box from dhl... containing...

4 PCI-e headers

ZERO ribbon cables

and no SP30 MMC card/board...

Also received a PM to email support with pics of ribbons & MMC board... to see if they have any...

If anyone has an image of the SP30 MMC board please post it here... or i'll be stripping that rig as well (which ill probably need to do anyway)

Got the SP20 headers soldered in place.  Just need those ribbons now,,,,

SP30 with the 'boot SD' has crapped out again!! (restarting every 3 minutes with zero mining) (last SP20 is 'fine')

multiple 'SD recoveries' failed to help

multiple 'SD boot' attempts fail to help

(SP20E offline 10 days)
I have similar issue...

Try sd boot first, but patiently wait for at least 10 minutes to see if miner boot.
If not, try to put sd card on working sp20, then wait (must be self reboot and start booting)
If not shut them down for at least 5 min and then with inserted SD Recovery wait again at least 10 minutes to get xmas light mode, then wait not 2min as is said in instruction, but wait 10/15 minutes, remove sd and power down.

I found all this when i try to recover 2 sp20e after power faliure, first one was fixed with sd recovery, but second one work only with sd boot(seems like his own memory is dead)

Good luck!

Thanks loudnes, but still no joy on the SP30.

2nd day of failed recoveries and i think its not coming back.

SP-T mentioned the MMC board possibly needing replacing.

If they havent yet sent my ribbons & connector headers, perhaps they can send an SP30 board at the same time.

4.06PM

Dear 'Edgar',

Today we are shipping to you some spare parts with DHL.

Please see attached shipping documents

Best Regards,

Katya Penkar

Invoice shows 4 x 6 pin connector headers only.

No mention of ribbons nor SP30 MMC board...

>snip<

rig was never pushed past or even close to factory limitations..

SP20 is running harder and has hardly skipped a beat - SP20E has been a bit of a gimp since arrival.

possibly due to loose pins??

possibly due to crimped ribbons??

possibly due to 'pushing it too hard' ? - absolutely not!

possibly due to karmaic intervention? - doubtful

@SP-T - Thanks, i appreciate the offer of the parts - and am happy to give it a go.

the cables were not new but neither were they new in the SP20 - so im not going to point fingers.

Has anyone any experience of replacing headers? Im a bit of a virgin.. (...and considering non-solder conductive glue...)

...

@SPT -
35 USD to ship an SD card??

and if i were to pay using the 150USD coupon you will invalidate the remaining 115 USD??

Please keep it!

As to the burnt connectors, they were not 'officially reported' but extensively discussed on the forum late last year.

Can i use the 150 USD for replacing these? I assume they wont cost that much.

Although the shipping may make it a complete waste of time if 35USD for a 1g SD card is anything to go by...

We'll upload an experimental version of the recovery SD, you'll be able to test it yourself.
I'll check about the connectors. You'll need to do the modifications yourself. The shipping will be probably more expensive.

Thanks, An uploaded version is a much better idea!

I've opened the SP20E to begin removal of the headers, and found both ribbon cables are damaged.

1074  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: February 24, 2015, 05:04:09 AM
How can people be so easily fooled?

You have a company that does a pre sale for a hashing device that promise great income and wealth for their customers.
Customers flock in by thousands, and pay the company many thousand dollars each to be part of this gold mine rush.
Company use all these people`s money to buy their own chips from TSMC and system builders to make these hashing devices.
In time the company sits with hashing power that are able to create many million dollars.
WHY DELIVER THESE TO THE PEOPLE AND END THE MONEY RAIN?
No, they make up silly excuses to upgrade the manufacturing to 20nm node. On a ASIC chip that doesnt use much energy in 28nm, and basically giving up the hashing race where time is crucial to get most money out of a given growing difficulty.

How does this even makes any sense in your head people? If it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck....
They made money for themselves out of YOUR money. "Testing", 20nm, manufacturing difficulties, etc, were all excuses to post pone the ending of the cash train.

THINK people.

i think you mean lied to - not fooled.

its not the same.

they didnt fool me at all - yet they lied continually.

and their fangirl base of easily pleased maggots reinforced the lies.

which also fooled me not.

just an FYI - both my sp20 & sp20E have been acting up.

possibly due to dying PSUs

new PSUs seem to have solved the constant hiccups for now

I also think they could do with a cleaning/dusting... which is a bit of a nightmare...

one day i'll present to you my 'SPDirty'

oh & BTW - @support asked for (& received) my email address a week ago, nothing since.

BOL Solemn!!
You posted that SD boot solved your issue.
Do you still have open issue?

and AFTER i posted that, you posted your team would like to send experimental something.

days later they PMd to ask for email address (despite already having it)

i replied the same day - not heard back since.

not that i want anything - just sharing my experience.

what do you suggest for cleaning the SP20s heatsinks?

Looks like the sell orders are being eaten little by little in Cryptsy.

possibly by the same person/s placing the orders and 'slowly' driving the price up??

@edgar, @thomas_s please contact support after the weekend.

do you mean tomorrow? (Sunday)

On my last attempt (#13) after a prolonged off period, i did get the alternating (xmas) leds

upon removal of the sd card & powering off/on - i am back to noisy fans and zero mining.

as though the recovery didnt 'stick'
...
...
...

ive tried 3 more since writing that - no joy at all

My guess is some management board problem. Yes, Sunday. It's 2 days from now for us.

my mistake, it feels like a saturday here.

anyway - i have now tried the SD Boot option.

fans are quiet, yellow 'ready' led is blinking 2 times

nothing else

did you reconfigure your pool after SD recovery?

hey zvi,

thanks for your time.

i did half a dozen more recoveries, reformatted the sd 3 times

eventually, after NOT switching off after recovery SD insertion it finally held after 'xmas lite' power cycle.

only then [17 hrs later] was i able to access the UI at all - and did indeed reconfig it all.

all is good

hope thomas_s gets his sorted...
