Well, I've got 5 modules running now and I'm getting about 660GH/s. Adding only 110GH/s to my old 550GH/s seemed slow, so I used bertmod and see that I've got the dreaded Die 0 issue! I'm running firmware 0.98.1 and blocked the airflow to raise the temp without success (reached 80 degrees C before I lost my nerve and started the fan again).

Are there any other tricks before I decide to RMA it? My 2nd module arrives tomorrow and I'm hoping for better luck.

Did you try swapping the ribbon cables around on the controller to see if the problem follows the module or stays with the new connector?

Yep, and I forgot to mention that I am also using enablecores.bin. I downgraded all the way to 0.91 and all of a sudden all of the DC/DC modules had amperage! I then upgraded to 0.92 and I lost the original DC/DC plus another!

I remember Phoenix mention that he pressed down on his VRMs and felt a 'snap', so I tried that and two of them seemed to click as if they weren't all the way down. Upon powering up, however, there was no difference.

I went back to 0.91 and it brings back the first DC/DC that was failing, but the one that failed later is still offline. Let the wild goose chase continue!

Keep up the good goose chase!!

im all eyes & ears

i still think r1sen did a great job, regardless!

but 1l1l11ll1ls effort is 5 star!!

That is a WIN!! i have to applaud it!!

i wonder who will have the balls to poopoo this creation...

BTW - adding two 'extra' connectors during production would hardly have slowed down SEPTEMBER October rigs! dont be so daft!!

by the same logic, the inclusion of module mounting screws would have slowed things down too much as well! (or cost too much?)

Again, Daft!!

STILL interested to hear the KnC official stance on PCI-express connectors on the v850s

are you hosting them with one 'twin' cable heating up like mine did for a month before dying or are you in possession of extra cables?

also if the heat generated is a cause or an effect of the 0 Die low current issue?

very interested to hear a response as my v850 up & died yesterday...

So Awesome r1senfa17h!!

i would be so scared of voiding the warranty, especially with no modules to add.....however, you did great!

If only KnC had done the job fairly for all rigs 'we' wouldnt need to risk voiding warranty/destroying our rigs AND those '200 only' modules might have sold out in 30 seconds instead of 3 minutes....

BiG IFs!

Still suffering the same Die 0 DC/DC low current issue.

0.99 F/W made no noticeable positive difference.

Someone mentioned shoddy soldering/grounding recently, has that been confirmed at all?

Hey Bitcoinorama (or anyone really), Is the below a known issue with these miners?

I have a Jupiter that had 3/4 boards with the Die 3/4 DC/DC low current issue that temperature manipulation would not fix. My fourth board was perfect. I RMA'd the three boards and had a pretend Mercury for about a week mining along at 142Gh/s...When I received my RMA boards and installed them in my Jupiter (never touching the fourth board), my fourth and previously perfect board began exhibiting the Die 0 DC/DC low current issue. The other three boards work perfectly. This is with firmware .98.1 which fixed this exact issue with all of my boards previously since my miner shipped with .95 firmware.
How is it that one board can cause another to perform sub-par and act like it has a hardware issue? Could this be the root cause of everyone else's problems? Some boards for whatever reason don't play nice together?

Is KnC aware of this, and is it something that firmware can fix? Or is it just a game of luck?

might be the reason some people say sticker#1's were better boards (cause they probably only had one #2 board acting up amongst them..)
who knows..  I sent a #1 board back since it lost a die sitting around other #2 boards..  and never came back up even by itself

the miners could just be playing tricks on our minds

waiting on Nov rig to arrive and check before requesting RMA - dont want to have to do it more than once!

V850 died after 31 days of proud service, replaced with aero cool - x-strike 1100w gold rated psu

no difference in performance at all - hope it will be enough for nov rig needs as the only local alternative is the v1000 platinum...

1727  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: How I can install extra port at Jupiter board on: November 16, 2013, 01:49:39 AM
I'm adding two extra connectors to my 4-port Jupiter by soldering on two of the following:

2 x 5 pin shrouded header (2.54mm)

even though i couldnt get any modules, i'd love to see a step by step how you attach these. who knows what tomorrow may bring.

someone else might wanna jump in and remind us all how sad they are that they also were too slow/late/pitiful to buy modules..
1728  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: November 16, 2013, 01:41:36 AM
In retrospect, wish I purchased a couple KNC rigs Sad Not sure what horse to bet on next  Undecided February seems too far away to wait for a CoinTerra or HashFast preorder.
Buy btc? You are paying about ~$1000/btc investing in hardware right now. Well, that price by the time the next batch ships. Or pay $400/btc now and see how it goes?

Seriously, I could have bought 80btc when I ordered. 80BTC would now be worth $32,000. Ugh.

32000 & then some!

after 10+ hrs on 0.99 i have a pool HR of 477Gh/s, it was 510-540 on 0.98.1 (beta)

WU is down from 77xx to 73xx

More importantly, my 24hr earnings have dropped from 0.8xxx to 0.62717

FML!

also the 'update asic status' button is gone

So the biggest outstanding issue, as far as I can see, if the die0 issues. It is for me. Partially addressed in 98.1, but still far from a satisfactory solution.

11 days after the last firmware release, knc release a new firmware today that does nothing to address the biggest outstanding issue - die0 problems.

Is this it then knc? Run out of ideas? You aren't going to bother with a fix for the die0 issues for customers? Too busy making money on new orders and fire-sale of ex-RMA boards to take care of current customers?

Then you need to make an announcement saying that. With a promise that anyone who RMA's bad die0 boards will get a new 140GH+ replacement - no quibbles. And stop this BS criminal practice of sending back faulty boards if they can jointly hash over 450GH, which is what you seem to be doing. This is only fair, considering how much most people with die0 issues have lost now.

Who the fuck paid for faulty boards? I didn't, but that's what I got. Where is my solution?? Where is the firmware that addresses the biggest outstanding issue your customers have knc?

Get one of your shills representatives over to this forum to address customer concerns and start coming up with solutions for people who gave you the money to exist.

i know im wasting my energy but he's right.

i have tried everything, and still suffer dead die0 issue!

i was resigned to waiting upon the 'tuning suite' until 0.99 was unceremoniously served up,

tl;dr - meh (still)

@KNC or @Bitcoinorama: Does this delay also apply to the upgrade modules? Will the shipping of the upgrade modules begin with, before or after shipping of regular november orders?

Guy's I'll be honest and say. If you have a November batch and want to take full advantage, I'd be sourcing 1200w PSUs.

I'd still avoid the Cosair HX Series. You'd prob be fine with a solid 1000w+.

We've been testing on the V850s still, but as I alluded to before they've been pushing these around and over 1000w and the PSUs are solid and have been taking the abuse, but if I were you with future firmware revisions and from what I've seen: 1200w Gold rated PSUs for November batch orders FTW please! Wink

 PSU 1200w?? god !

coolmaster only have max 1000w

http://www.coolermaster.com/product/Detail/powersupply/silent-pro-gold/silent-pro-gold-1200w.html

Although it does appear to have only 2 PCI-e ports... Wink

still, its not happenin on my ONLY jupiter.

you with your 19 boards can give the double molex a spin..Wink

Current is current. You can use a cheap computer PSU and jump start a car battery with it. 6amp contuous load on 18ga is absolutely not an issue. He's using what's effecively a safety factor of 4 doing it the way he's doing it. I doubt he'll have issues.

Thx

I'd like to hear/see pics from other jupiter owners - wrt 4th PCI-e connector

Are there miners currently using 2 molex to PCI-e ?
1734  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: November 15, 2013, 02:47:26 PM
@ anyone w/jupiter - what are you using for the 4th module with your V850s?

mine came with 3 'twin' connectors, so im using one connector 'twice' and it is HOT!

Twin molex to PCI-E is one solution.
Or I read that you can use one of the CPU slots to plug an additional PCI-E cable there (if you have any), but do your own research for that as I cannot be held responsible for any damages.

Btw if you send an email to Cooler Master to request additional PCI-E cables they will be happy to send you some. I'm currently waiting 7 to arrive:

Bless you, I'll email them immediately.

i saw the 2 molex - pci-e option in 2011 but not comfortable trying it on the jupiter

was curious what others are using - the twin method works but less than ideal, especially with an empty pci-e slot right thurr

what are you using to power ur extras, a second psu?

I would not use PCI-E to molex adaptors for a jupiter. those were designed with the 75W PCI-E limit in mind, and a single jupiter ASIC draws far more than 75w

Each 12V 18AWG cable is rated up to 11Amps, but let's be a little conservative and drop that down to 6Amps. So this Twin Molex to PCI-E has 2 of these = 12Amps, which is sufficient for a single module.

So I just soldered connectors into positions 5 and 6 on my Saturn's control board and connected the modules to them.  So far it seems to be working fine.

Now I just need my upgrade modules to arrive and I'll be ready to try making a 5-module miner.

Like an BOSS!!

@davewr2013 - i dont recall ever contacting you for advise, assistance or support...

Saturn "churning' out BTC....

polite requests are ignored

phonecalls go unanswered

emails are answered by an automated response that promises a human response that NEVER arrives

forum posts are ignored or smeared with dung by the lucky/paid/bored/ignorant

unreasonable demands are made of CUSTOMERS who are illegally referred to as BUSINESSES

it is a big scam, and we are the investdurrs.

that SOME of us made +ROI (in USD) is immaterial for those of us that did not.

boasting of your 'success' or your 'method' is irritating to say the least when genuine concerns are deemed as TROLLING.

wipe the drool from your mouth and open your eyes!

modules ordered & paid for AFTER november orders will be shipped this week? next week? so when will the november orders get shipped?

30th november just to stay 'honest'

1st of dec due to EXTRA modules needing to be shipped a week or so late?

do we have ANY say in what is expected?

i hate the fact that we have to backflip through hoops & moonwalk on eggshells to get what we paid for (a fully functional rig)

while the million dollar success story is plastered all over the world ignoring the multitude of LEGITIMATE concerns are overlooked or passed of as false

(ignore button is a pathetic threat made by pathetic individuals)

'do what i say or i'll press a button to ignore you without actually ignoring you' - awesome!
