I think there's enough value on Kelvin at a decision win, that's what I see the most likely if he is to win. Going for a William Knight decision too, I think most are probably expecting a knock out, but just to squeeze those odds out I've gone for the decision again at 4.33. It'll probably be a knockout, but at 2.38 I'm not sure its worth putting on. I don't see Fabio Cherant winning in any shape or form.
2842  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread 2021/2022 on: August 19, 2021, 09:06:04 PM
Usual Arsenal policy was to sign relatively young players, use them well, let them develop and then sell them off for top dollars. That type of transfer is not easy to accomplish successfully over the run of many years. Still, Arsenal has some top young talents in their squad, I can see Saka and Smith-Rowe as top players in couple of years. I agree with what you wrote and Arsenal should definitely be top 5 team by their pedigree and they don't have a chance to accomplish that with current squad. Champions League spot should be a must for them.

Ben White is decent player, but his price is what it is because he is English and plays in Premier League. John Stones was also not worth 70+M or whatever when City signed him. That kind of players from other leagues could be obtained for under 5M. But that is situation with young English players for last couple of years.
They've also brought in big players over the years, for example; Ozil. Okay, it didn't work out for Arsenal or Ozil, but I think anyone can admit that he's a fantastic talent, and I'm not quite sure why it all went wrong for him at Arsenal. I felt his first few seasons he actually did well, and complimented their attack.

Saka is fantastic, and martinelli. Both of those have bright futures if they are nurtured correctly by the club, and I think Arsenal is the perfect team for them, since they aren't going to be competing against world class players, but still have decent enough exposure to different competitions every so often like the Europa League.

I still don't agree on Ben White, even if you include the English tax. I think John Stones is double the player Ben White is. Ben White isn't a top 6 player, and that's the ambition a team like Arsenal should be aiming for. However, Arsenal are slowly becoming a top half club.

No panic when the going gets tough is a lot easier said than done, even the most seasoned users here still get a little bit stressed when Bitcoin runs into a little resistance. I think that is natural, and unfortunately I don't think its entirely possible to remove emotion from any investment you make in life.

If you think that getting to the top is as easy as literally just buying bitcoin and do nothing with your life, then you're heavily mistaken.
Technically, it could happen, I mean there's plenty of examples out there of this already happening, but I think the key thing to keep in mind here, is that it's probably unlikely unless you already have a rather large amount to invest with in the first place, and a whole lot of patience. However,  I think its definitely possible.
2844  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread 2021/2022 on: August 19, 2021, 02:44:25 PM
Arsenal is a very good example of the club that is run as a business without regards to their supporters. While most of the teams are in the red with the money Arsenal has always been very profitable for the owners. While that is hard for the supporters which are used to the old glory days I don't think club management intends to change their policy anytime soon. And while situation remains the same they will not fight for the title for sure and will be very happy with European qualification. Champions League could also be out of the reach this season since as you say most of the big clubs have much better rosters than Arsenal.
While this is true, this isn't likely to be sustainable for the long term. For example, recent years they've seen a notable decline in league positions, and the types of players that they are signing. I for one don't consider Ben White to be the caliber that a big club like Arsenal should be signing, and that's especially true when I believe they've overpaid for him at 50 million pounds.

Arsenal need a breath of fresh air, because honestly I don't see them finishing above 8th this year. The decline from the Wenger days is crazy, they were known for their consistency, and good signings. Okay, they didn't sign a lot of players, but when they did they were usually good business. These days it doesn't seem like they are making any of the right moves for the longevity of the club.
2845  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: August 18, 2021, 10:55:04 PM
Kelvin used to be better, recently he's been somewhat declining. Though, I'm all for a underdog being written off towards the end of their career, and then surprising a few people. To be honest, I usually take the unlikely bets over ones which actually make sense Cheesy. If you watch the Adesanya fight, you'll see the potential there. Alright, not a world beater, but definitely someone who knows how to fight, particularly wrestling.

You can. See my post here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5112334.msg49854683#msg49854683

For example, this link - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=recent;boards=1,74,77,86,6,37,98,100,138,97,231,261,14,40,41,42,76,137,81,4,12;patrol - will show you all recent newbie posts from the boards in the "Bitcoin" section only.

You can also use this link to see newbie posts from all boards, but with bounty posts excluded: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=recent;patrol;nobounty

Ah perfect. I thought I remembered vaguely doing it before, but I assumed I just ignored a few sections, but didn't bother testing it recently. That'll be perfect for moderation as well as meriting new users. Making sure I make a note this time.

I mean, I've literally just used the link, and it has already brought attention a few users spamming. Cheers for the reminder, that'll increase my efficiency ten fold.
2847  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: send crypto from existing paper wallet on: August 18, 2021, 07:09:16 PM
The only way you can send a transaction from your paper wallet, would be to bring it online i.e import the private keys into another wallet software. As soon as you do this, you open yourself up to more attack vectors, however that doesn't necessarily mean its less secure, depending on your situation. It's generally recommended that if you have to send regular transactions, then a hardware wallet is probably the most suited for you. However, if you only intend on sending a one off transaction, then you could do so, and then go about creating another paper wallet, and then send the remaining balance back to that new paper wallet.
2848  Other / Beginners & Help / Re:  Why do bitcoin need to be scalable on: August 18, 2021, 07:05:37 PM
You should always look to design your product/service to be scalable. This isn't limited to Bitcoin, but to everything you are looking to code. However, its especially true for Bitcoin, if you want to accommodate as many users as possible, then implementing features which limit its expansion isn't a good idea. If you want an example outside of Bitcoin; if you were designing a website to login users from your local community, but later you decide to expand nationally, but didn't implement a way to easily scale your website, then that might mean you have to redo most of the code in the future. You want to avoid that. Bitcoin, because a lot of changes would require a hard fork, and that hard fork then has to reach consensus it quickly becomes problematic.

If you want to learn specifically the problems with Bitcoin, and scaling it then check out this article: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bitcoin_scalability_problem
2849  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Beware: Another type of hacker's trap on: August 18, 2021, 06:55:45 PM
Seems to be a low level attack, and by that I mean nothing new, and likely is a script kiddie without actually having any in depth knowledge about coding.

It is highly recommended that every computer user have a good anti virus software installed and also, only download software from known sources to minimize the risk of ever installing a bad or virus infected softwares.
I'd only recommend a antivirus if you have no clue about computers, and don't know how to stay safe using them. Even then, I'd consider the very software which calls itself antivirus, a virus itself. They usually come bundled with a ton of stuff that you don't want, or they hog up your computer resources for no benefit to the end user. You can effectively safeguard your computer from most attacks, if you are careful, and use it with security in mind.

Seriously, Anti Viruses suck. They also give a false sense of security, because as soon as a user installs them, they assume they are safe. Any malicious user, that is at least competent, i.e the ones that are actually a threat know how to avoid detection from anti viruses, simply because they are effectively reading from a database of known code or patterns which indicate a virus. Plus, you get a ton of false positives, which can be problematic in itself.

If you verify each download that you download, assure the signature is correct, and then you safe guard yourself against some of the common attacks on the internet, such as script attacks then you'll likely be fine in the most part. The more advanced precaution you could take is either physical isolation or virtual compartmentalizing with an operating system like QubesOS. I've talked about this in the past, so I won't go into detail about it here, but most users can safe guard themselves without actually needing a anti virus.

I often Merit users who don't post again after their first post. They come here to solve a problem, and after they're done, they don't need the forum anymore. Those aren't the best users for the future of the forum, but they are genuine (Bitcoin) users.
Yeah, this seems pretty common. They probably don't even understand the merit system, but I still think meriting these types of posts might actually encourage new users to stick around. At least, I'm hoping so. Though, I think most of my newbie merits are the types which come ask a question, and then leave indefinitely.

I wish somehow I was able to filter the patrol page, to avoid certain sections temporarily so I could look for newbie posts which aren't bounty reports etc. That would likely increase my merit distribution to newbie accounts significantly.

If you guys are looking for a good underdog to put some action on avoid Gastelum.  No value.  I mean yeah he has the skills and could even prolly finish Cannonier.  But check his record as of late.  He’s not an a good mind set to take on top fivers.  His last win was a tune up fight vs Heinisch.  I think Royval at 2.45 is a better underdog bet.  But get in now before the line becomes closer.
I went for Kelvin @ 4.33 to win by decision, which I think is probably the most likely route of victory if he is to win the fight. I don't see him knocking out Cannonier, and the same for a submission. A ideal bet might have been betting for the fight to go the distance, but I didn't check the odds on that. I've also got Royval on my accumulator, I'm feeling a night of the underdogs is on the cards.
2852  Other / Meta / Re: [TOP-200] Members who support newbies - Thanks! on: August 18, 2021, 12:25:18 PM
Might I suggest changing this? My reasoning for Meriting Newbies is quite simple: the Merit system was introduced to stop spammers. If a Newbie isn't a spammer, he shouldn't be restricted by the Merit system. That means my "standards" for Newbies are lower than for others.
Both Bitcoin and Bitcointalk can't grow without new users!
Besides, holding newbies who are new not only the forum, but quite possibly Bitcoin or cryptocurrencies in general to the standards of others users is a little unrealistic. Plus, I believe progression is a big motivator, hence why we track progress in most industries. If they are receiving merit, they'll get the bug, and want to earn more, which will likely encourage better quality posts.

The problem (that I've ranted about ad nauseam) is that most Newbies just don't make good posts or, as I said, I'm reading threads in sections where newcomers are just posting crap.  I certainly do want to help lower-ranked members, but I've had the opinion for a long time that most new members are here just to make money, so they're not putting in a lot of effort when they write--and it shows.  Anyway, I'll sleep on it and appreciate the input.
It's partly the reason we have a lot of merit sources, so that the distribution of merit is varied. It's good to some extent to have different standards, and different merit habits. Though, I'm not actually bothered if I believe a user is posting simply because they want to rank up, and eventually earn. We all want to make money to a certain extent, it is whether or not that post is detrimental to the forum, obviously if it is its likely to fall into the scope of moderation, but if not then merit takes care of that grey area. However, if they are contributing good content, I don't care what their motivation is in posting. Good content to me is good content.
2853  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: August 18, 2021, 08:46:14 AM
Yes but Cannonier has bigger 6 inch reach advantage than Gastelum and his striking accuracy is also better.
Odds are showing that Cannonier is a big favorite in this fight  and Gastelum won only one fight from last five, so not much is going in his favor for this fight.
Best time to bet on a fighter in my opinion. The odds will reflect that the fighter has been having a rough time recently, and the fighter themselves will want to redeem themselves. Especially, if they are concerned about being cut from the UFC. Gastelum at around 4.00 for a decision win is good value considering his obvious strengths in wrestling, and I find whenever there's a wrestler against a striker, the striker performs subpar due to the threat of a take down. I'm definitely putting Gastelum on my accumulator this weekend.

Just doing my predictions now, hopefully I'll remember to check the lineups, and injury news closer to the date.

I was expecting City to run away with the league this season but maybe not now, which is always a good thing. Will be interesting to see is Coutinho or Mbappe end up in the PL. Liverpool seem to be interested in both. Will be interesting to see how PSG justify being able to have all their players on the books.
As far as I'm aware the Mbappe rumours have just been that; rumours. Nothing, substantial suggesting we would go for him, let alone could afford him. The board has been insisted that we need to sell to buy this year, and the only way we could sign Mbappe would be if either Mane or Salah left, and a bunch of other players along with them. I can't see it happening.

As for Coutinho, I haven't heard of these rumours. Although, I avoid most mainstream news websites, and only pay attention to certain journalists which are close to the club. Though, Coutinho used to be my favorite player, I'm not happy about the way he went with leaving, and I'm sure Klopp isn't either. I don't see him coming back to Liverpool.

2855  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Sportsbet.io's English Premier League Football Pool Discussion Thread on: August 15, 2021, 05:57:13 PM
@Welsh I did say City not playing with strikers is going to bite them at some point. They won the league last season doing so but trying to do it AGAIN is really not how you defend the title. But credit Spurs man, and Son is 10/10 for me every day any day. That guy.
Yeah, I've always rated Son. I'm actually surprised to some extent that Tottenham have managed to keep him. I thought some bigger clubs would have come knocking a while ago. If Liverpool wasn't as stacked as they are now, I would have had him at the club a few years ago.

Well done on the predictions, I might need your view point on some of my accumulators in the future Wink. My bets I actually did much better than the predictions here, though. Close on a few.
2856  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: August 15, 2021, 05:15:16 PM
The Gastelum fight might be worth putting a bet on for going the distance depending on the odds, that's if you don't want to predict either way. I'm actually thinking a Kelvin Gastelum decision win is on the cards. Kelvin Gastelum has probably the best fight against Adesanya, other than Jan who beat him so he clearly knows how to stay safe against strikers, and he's a wrestler. Wrestlers notoriously do well against strikers.
2857  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Football Transfers Speculation, Odds and Predictions on: August 15, 2021, 05:12:47 PM
I'm thinking that the Harry Kane to Manchester City is a done deal, and they are only delaying it because of their match that's ongoing right now. I think in the next few days we'll see either an announcement or confirmation that a bid has been accepted. I would assume that Harry Kane has already agreed terms with Manchester City.
2858  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread 2021/2022 on: August 15, 2021, 05:08:48 PM
Not sure, I think City have lacked urgency. The commentators have mentioned it a few times already, they just keep walking with the ball while still trailing in the game. City are better than this, and it makes you think where they'll finish if they don't secure a striker. Torres isn't the man that should be leading the lines. Obviously, this isn't a fully fit Man City, with KDB only now coming on, but they've been rather lackluster, and Tottenham have been brilliant.

A great match we are enjoying. Everyone hoped that Manchester City would win the first match of the season. However, I placed my bet in favor of the draw. But now it looks like City will lose the match. They have attacked a lot, but have not been able to score. There is still 20 minutes left.
Only because they're in my accumulator. Otherwise, I'd be rooting for either a draw or Tottenham win. Surely, most of the league want to see Manchester City lose, since they are favorites for the league.
2859  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Sportsbet.io's English Premier League Football Pool Discussion Thread on: August 15, 2021, 05:05:28 PM
Man City screwed me. Tottenham have looked really good, something which I didn't expect I thought with the Harry Kane situation going on, they would lack urgency. However, its been the complete opposite, and dare I said it without a striker, Man City look somewhat toothless. I don't rate Torres, and Mendy at least for a team that should be challenging for the league title. Think they are more suited to a team like West Ham.

As for the score predictions, not great this week from me. Although, I got a few results in pretty dire actually.
2860  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: August 15, 2021, 10:22:30 AM
If Jon Jones returns to heavy weight that will be the biggest fights in the history as he could pull numbers because everyone wants to see that challenge.
Everyone wants to see Jon Jones lose, right? I'm thinking a Ngannou VS Jon Jones would be the more likely, and would be more likely to be a knockout. I think Gane would get out worked, and out maneuvers against Jon Jones, and I don't think he would have the knockout that Ngannou would have. Don't get me wrong, Jon Jones probably out works, and out maneuvers both of them, but I would be confident in Ngannou catching him a few times with some big shot .
