2781  Other / Meta / Re: [TOP-200] The most generous users giving merits on: September 02, 2021, 09:41:18 PM
Well, I would agree with you if our forum was not intended to discuss bitcoin and related topics. But when you look into the history of messages of such a newbie, then for a moment you forget what kind of forum you are on, since almost all of his messages about merit, statistics and social injustice to newcomers (not to mention the fact that such conversations begin with the first message). Yes, a couple of his thoughts may seem reasonable to you and me, but I suggest not to forget the reason why we are all here. Please note that I am not throwing a "stone in your garden" as I really appreciate your contribution to the mining section and much more, I just added my 2 cents. Roll Eyes
Users at this point usually join the forum to earn money, merit is preventing them from earning that money. It's only natural for them to talk about it a lot. Although, when it comes to social injustice to newbies as you put it; I can't say that is isn't warranted to bring that up as an issue. Undoubtedly, certain users can be hostile, and while I can't blame them I usually like to give the benefit of the doubt before passing judgement.

However, talking about merit, and particularly complaining about it is one of the tell tale signs for account farmers. I don't think many normal users would have much of a problem gaining merit over a period of time, only those with time restraints due to trying to rank up several accounts at once.
2782  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Twitter and Bitcoin on: September 02, 2021, 08:45:22 PM
I'm actually worried about this happening too quickly. After the initial hype I'm not even convinced that it would be beneficial to Bitcoin. I'd be worried about implementing something like this whether it was Twitter, Reddit or Facebook, a tipping feature could potentially hurt Bitcoin as a currency, because people will associate with tipping on a social media, and it becomes a novelty rather than something that could potentially revolutionise their life.

Think about it; would you ever see something like this implemented with fiat? Probably not, but if you implement it with Bitcoin while it would probably increase adoption, would people take Bitcoin seriously after it has been trivialised by a tipping feature?
2783  Other / Off-topic / Re: will we witness a blockchain based election in our life time? on: September 02, 2021, 08:39:25 PM
A problem with a block chain based election is that in order to win an election, you must have 51% of the vote, which is the same amount needed to change the outcome of the vote (via a 51% attack).

So, in effect the winner of the election is the side with the most hash power.
Blockchain could potentially be implemented in such a way that hash rate isn't a factor. The idea of implementing the Blockchain into something like a electoral vote would be to avoid corruption. The bigger issue with that is verifying who submitted that vote, while keeping everything privacy oriented. Especially with data protection becoming more of a bigger deal these days, they couldn't just simply show the names of the person, and who they voted for.

The problem is that anyone with 51% or more of the hash power has complete control of the block chain.
Yeah, they could potentially reject votes, and only include ones they want in the block. Although, I do believe with modifications the Blockchain or something similar to the Blockchain could potentially work in reducing corruption. What is clear is the current systems used aren't fair at all, and are susceptible to corruption.
2784  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Sportsbet.io's English Premier League Football Pool Discussion Thread on: September 02, 2021, 08:25:23 PM
I'll be honest if it isn't the World Cup I have zero interest in international matches. I do tend to watch Wales in the Euros, but there's no where near as much passion in it for me as it would be if it was Wales playing rugby. I dread the international breaks every time, especially when the league literally just started a few weeks ago, what is it three weeks ago? Ridiculous, literally been itching for the league to start, and we already have a break.

I think some players also prioritise  club matches over international. I know Ryan Giggs did, and I know Joel Matip has also retired from his Cameroon duties, I'm not entirely sure if that was more political or just because he prefers club football though. On the flip side, Gareth Bale usually plays better for Wales than I've seen him play for years for club football.
2785  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: September 02, 2021, 08:23:10 PM
Paddy and Luigi, like somebody, made joke characters in the UFC video game XD Paddy has been making a lot of noise lately, it's that Liverpool bravado, but you know what they say, if he talks the talk he better be ready to walk the walk, so he has a lot on his plate. Let's see how he does.
He's pretty good. Although, much of his fame comes from hanging around with social infulencers on Youtube, and being a Jay lookalike from the Inbetweeners show. I'm sure he's sick, and tired of hearing that from people, however if he wins this fight, and then in the post fight interview says "Completed mate" I'll forever place a bet on him to win his matches. As much as he probably hates the comparison, I think that could potentially sky rocket his career further, because the whole of the UK at least will talk about it.
2786  Other / Meta / Re: The signature campaign “syndrome” on: September 02, 2021, 08:19:05 PM
My reporting accuracy rate so far doesn't seem very good at only 96% but that's not a big deal as I've gone to great lengths to report spam for removal based on my observation and ratings. Maybe we have some users whose reporting accuracy is up to 100% here and it seems they can report hundreds to thousands of posts for deletion every month. I'd like to get some tips on how to improve report accuracy for the better. Anyone willing to help, I really appreciate it.
96% is very good. Also, remember that percentage isn't a great indicator. If you've reported 1000s of posts then 96% is fantastic. If you've only reported <100 posts then the percentage is rather meaningless. What I'm trying to say is the percentage can be influenced more when you haven't reported a lot of posts. By the time that you've got into the habit of reporting a lot of posts then you would have already likely learned what is suitable, and not suitable to report.

If you ever have any questions regarding improving reporting you can always message me, and I'll try to explain to the best of my ability. You can also check out my guide where I went into reporting in a little more depth. Though, I've been meaning to add a few things to that, and generally clean it up a bit.
2787  Other / Meta / Re: My Dream Bitcointalk Forum on: September 02, 2021, 08:15:49 PM
I think it would be better and easier to handle if there are no individual criteria. The people that can whitelist can develop some common and standard questions. Such that if an applicant decides to involve more than one whitelister, he/she will equally meets same questions.
Then there should be a common group by all the whitelisters were a general judgment can be passed on an applicant rather than discretionary judgment. Thank you!
Yeah, that's exactly the point I was getting across. No doubt, certain users that are whitelisting will be easier to convince, but I'm not a fan of bringing in a standardized approach, because this could quickly become abused. In my eyes, they have to convince me in whatever way they can. Honestly, at this point it seems like the majority of the users I would whitelist would be those recommended by already established users here, as there hasn't been a lot of success with the current conversations.
2788  Other / Meta / Re: The signature campaign “syndrome” on: September 02, 2021, 08:06:35 PM
I've observed that there's two sides of the argument here. Either, users here preemptively assume signature campaigners are posting just because they earn, when that isn't true for all cases. Besides, I've said this numerous times, I don't personally care their motive for posting, as long as it's of decent quality.

I was also a little worried since I once already reported a scam spammer and it now says '100% report accuracy', but I'm not sure if it's bad to have a low accuracy or not.
Unless, you're abusing the report feature your accuracy should never be the difference of you reporting the post or not. We appreciate all reports, it gives us something to do, and in the majority of the cases the report is handled good. Honestly, the majority of users are pretty accurate at reporting, however it's not a big deal if you get a few bad reports. I have over 200 bad reports for instance.

I partly wish the percentage was removed, and only good, and bad reports were displayed. Sure, users could still work out their percentage manually, but if it's not right there in front of them they'll likely not care as much.

Top 4, both Manchester clubs, Chelsea and Liverpool are probably the biggest favorites. if we count some very awkward teams like Leicester, West Ham, Tottenham, Wolves, every team from the top 4 will have  +/- 14 (Home/away) difficult games. It’s just hard to expect someone to make an unbeatable series here.
Plus, they participate in CL where they will have some more complicated games. I still don't see a clear favourite here.
West Ham have made good additions as of recent, however prior to that I didn't see them as much of a threat for top 4, and I probably still don't. I'm not doubting their first team, what I am doubting is their qualification for Europa League, and how that is going to effect things. I do believe they'll struggle to repeat what they did last season, despite having a decent start to the season.

If I was going to make a prediction for top 4 now that some of the clubs have made their transfers:

Chelsea
Manchester United
Manchester City
Liverpool

I'd obviously love to put Liverpool higher, but our depth isn't fantastic if we get any injuries. It's basically the opposite to what it was last season, where our defense was running thin, now we are a injury away from having to play Origi up front. In fact, Firminho picked up a muscle injury in the game against Chelsea.

I'd agree with Chelsea being the favorites but only slightly, However, they'd need to beat City at their long term consistency to win the league, a slightly over average performance all season wouldn't do it, they have to be on their toes all season long, and Liverpool would also be keeping a really close tab as well, It's really going to be a competitive league this season, I'd say... I really don't see Man Utd in the picture when the season started, and I'm afraid the addition of Ronaldo doesn't change my perspective, yet.
The reason I'm going for Chelsea is not completely down to their first team, but their strength in depth. That's what wins you titles, and it's one of the biggest reasons Manchester City have been able to consistently put up a challenge to defend their titles back to back. Liverpool, and Manchester Untied to an extent can't afford any injuries to certain positions. In fact, I'd argue that Manchester City hasn't got adequate cover for striker. Chelsea are the most complete team in the Premier League currently.
2791  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcoin URI Protocol Scheme on: September 01, 2021, 10:05:28 PM
Also, a hacker can simply change the posted address with his own using hyperlinks, and no one will ever notice. It may well be I am exaggerating and there is no issue at all with these URIs but when it comes to newbies and all the ways they could be deceived it is impossible to foresee all outcomes.
While this is true, if the hacker has got access to change that address, they likely have the capability of tricking someone to send to their address through other means too. I don't think there's a particularly higher risk of address changing just because it's a hyperlink. Okay, theoretically is does have more attack vectors based on being public, and therefore potentially someone could compromise either the user or the forum, and change the address instead of just compromising the user, but the risk of that would be relatively low. Especially, for low level targets. This would be more appropriate for theymos, satoshi, and various other high level users on the forum.

It may well be I am exaggerating and there is no issue at all with these URIs but when it comes to newbies and all the ways they could be deceived it is impossible to foresee all outcomes.
Nope, this is just something that the majority of people ignore, especially when it comes to teaching people about a new thing. My general advice should be; teach everyone to the standard expected, and from a learners perspective learn from the start how you intend to carry on. So, for lack of good phrasing there; learn good protocols at the start, and then you don't have to deviate, and learn more things in the future, which would potentially increase the complexity due to mixing different methods up.

If you are taught to check the Bitcoin address three times, and unless there's a significantly better approach available, that you wasn't aware of at the time of learning, then you should continue doing so. I don't think it's a good idea to teach people about URLS unless they have a specific use for that, otherwise they'll like it because it's pretty gimmicky, and then they'll use that everywhere which wouldn't be appropriate.
2792  Other / Off-topic / Re: Do you have a separate phone/PC for crypto? on: September 01, 2021, 09:58:46 PM
I don't tend to my mobile phone for anything related to Cryptocurrencies. To be honest, the only thing I use my mobile phone for is searching, and general texting. It's not specifically used for anything other than that.
Regularly delete your browsing history, cookies, and cache. Removing your virtual footprint is important in minimizing the amount of data that can be harvested by prying eyes.
This is semi good advice, but honestly the big dogs (think Google) would have already captured that data, and likely are circulating it about. The best thing you could possibly do for your privacy is to try, and avoid logging data in the first place. That's however easier said than done. Honestly, I care about my privacy, however I've somewhat accepted now that its completely unavoidable as long as your using the internet for purchasing things, which unfortunately is the way the world is going.
2793  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: The steps and legality of opening a crypto casino on: September 01, 2021, 09:53:03 PM
Basically, as long as cryptocurrencies are legal they'll be treated like any other business that you would operate with fiat currencies. So, the same taxes will apply in most cases, but there are instances where tax for cryptocurrencies can be different. We couldn't possibly give you accurate replies without knowing your country.

However, the information you need is a search away, and you don't have to give us your personal information. Basically, do a search of the legality of Cryptocurrency, then look at how its taxed in your jurisdiction, and then finally look at if you will require a license to operate your casino. Usually, to be legal you'll need some sort of license. This is issued by the gambling commission in the UK I believe.
2794  Other / Meta / Re: I found a strange happening on this thread on: September 01, 2021, 09:42:09 PM
I tend to forget that a lot of newer members here don't realize that the merit system wasn't always a thing, that it's only been around for just over 3.5 years.  OP already got his answer, so I won't repeat it.  I'm sure if you go back to threads from 2010, you'll see that most of the members who posted have merit counts that represent exactly what was airdropped in Jan. 2018.  And man, if you go back that far, it'll seem like the forum was a completely different one.  There weren't signature campaigns back then, and I think the moderation was a lot less strict.
Some users don't even realise activity never used to be a thing either. It was vastly easier to rank up prior to it, because it was soley based on post count. I remember reaching a certain rank, but then activity was introduced, and I went back down to the rank below. I can't remember the exact ranks. Although, I think activity was implemented around June 2013 I believe. Judging by this thread anyway:
2795  Other / Meta / Re: My Dream Bitcointalk Forum on: September 01, 2021, 09:39:08 PM
When I ask a follow-up question, I usually hear nothing anymore. I'm still trying to figure out what works best.

Quote
as theymos says most users that hit the fee are for valid reasons,  and in my mind its up to them to convince me.
They often ask me what to do to convince me. If I answer that, it would be far too easy.
Yeah, that's exactly what my experience has been. I'm not inclined to whitelist anyone unless they absolutely convince me they wouldn't be detrimental to the forum. Obviously, this is likely a little too strict, but at the end of the day they've already hit one of the barriers to registering, and giving the benefit of the doubt (as there is obvious legitimate reasons why they might hit it) would probably do more harm than good in the majority of the cases. My criteria isn't something that is rigid at the moment, its more if the user can convince me or not.
2796  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread 2021/2022 on: September 01, 2021, 09:36:02 PM
The english premier league wont be challenging for Ronaldo considering the fact that he played there some years ago. There is no much difference between the English premiership and the Serie A apart from physicality and its fastness. He is experienced and a professional, professionals know how to raise their game in order to adapt to the league system. Although he may not be that active on the field of play. During the Euro 2020, his game seemed pared back, was not really mobile, playing and moving mainly within the penalty area. He has now become that penalty-box poacher. But his dedication to his profession remains fierce, showing total commitment is always make him stand out. I pray he help create a winning culture among the players.
Different times, and a vastly different player. Ronaldo isn't the player he was when he played at Manchester United. He's more of a box player these days, and isn't so much the dynamic runner that he used to be. While I doubt he will have significant problems in the Premier League, I don't think he's going to be as effective as people are expecting. Remember, one of Ronaldo's biggest threats years ago was his free kicks, however I believe they have declined in recent years.

One thing he will bring to the team is motivation, as well as experience which I believe are inter linked somewhat. Ronaldo is a player that other players will be keen to learn from, and look up to him as a result. That creates a certain dynamic between the players, and gets them to bond, and play cohesively as a team. The only issue I see with the Ronaldo business is if he becomes to big of a personality within the team, although to  be honest I think Ronaldo has always been a professional, and its more Mbappe, and Neymar who have been rumoured to have attitude issues.
2797  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: September 01, 2021, 09:30:13 PM
I think that match with Jack Shore could go the distance with his opponent being having a more wrestling heavy style just like Shore.  Could be a good bet at plus money.  Smiley
Yeah, I couldn't bet against him. Though, it'll likely be a tough match up for him. I'm currently thinking a Tom Aspinall, and Jack Shore accumulator with a few not to go distance bets. I'm not particularly hyped for this weekend's fights, although they are usually the ones which prove to worth watching the most. I'm expecting Aspinall to win his fight, however I think Spivak will prove a decent match up, and I'm not expecting Aspinall to just walk through this opponent compared to his last few fights.
2798  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Sportsbet.io's English Premier League Football Pool Discussion Thread on: September 01, 2021, 01:41:21 PM
I wonder how Ronaldo joining United will effect peoples predictions now? Will they have a title shot now? I think they'll certainly give City a run for their money. The Manchester derby is on the 6th of November so looking forward to that one.
I bloody hope not. I don't want to see Manchester United winning the title ever let alone anytime soon. Undoubtedly, Ronaldo signing for United will change peoples perceptions, especially those that are fans of the club. I personally believe, and I'm trying to remove any bias from this prediction, that they'll finish either second or third.

I think Chelsea at the moment are probably favourites, and you can never rule out Manchester City. Obviously, if I was to inject a little bias into it, I'd like to see Liverpool challenge for the title, but that's unlikely considering all of our rivals have strengthened, while we sat on our arse.
2799  Other / Meta / Re: My Dream Bitcointalk Forum on: September 01, 2021, 01:37:19 PM
When I was in low rank, I had naive thoughts like projects that have their Announcement topics on the forum, and publish those topics from Copper Membership accounts are more trusted.

I felt like they afford to pay fee for Copper Membership so they are more serious with their projects here. I know they can buy accounts and run their scam projects a few months (I saw many scam projects participated in the forum like that). ANN threads were published by Hero or Senior members but they are bought accounts.

Later, I realized my thought is wrong.
Unfortunately, this is one of the problems whenever you introduce ranks/titles along with a purchase. For example, most users here would probably be more inclined to trust donators, although its been proven that they aren't always trustworthy.

I think it would of been better to introduce a payment to lessen restrictions just like Copper Member, but not have the title "Copper Member" associated with it. The only way users would be able to identify those that paid is because they'll be able to post images. I think that was probably a better way about it in hindsight, because despite how much campaigning there is to not trust users of particularly ranks automatically, newbies will anyway.
2800  Other / Meta / Re: What is your favorite post or most memorable moment on this forum? on: September 01, 2021, 01:30:36 PM
I'll be honest the most memorable moments for me probably are some of the most negative moments in the forum's history; the 2015 forum compromise. As well, as when Satoshi's GMX account was compromised, and was announced here on the forum by theymos. Thankfully the malicious user didn't actually utilize it for anything bad, and was mainly used to troll, at least to our knowledge. Although, I think theymos himself noted he was rather disappointed by the level of trolling displayed. Obviously, I'll echo others in that Hal's posts will always be somewhat memorable. The 2015 compromise was actually quite big, and I think we are potentially still seeing the effects of that now, with several users cracking passwords, and accounts being banned. At least, in the years following it was a bigger issue than users realised. We probably lost some prolific users during that time due to concerns of security, and privacy.

Don't get me wrong, there's plenty of good memories here on the forum, but they don't particularly stick out as much as the negative, naturally.
