3281  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Boxing]: Arbitration judge orders Fury vs Wilder 3rd fight on: May 21, 2021, 03:50:36 PM
Wilder should change his style and find a way to land that big punch, he's been knocking out people with one punch but with Fury, he has a hard time connecting that will be his assignment.
Its unlikely though. Most boxers which change their style on a rematch or make the adjustments to get the edge are somewhat skilled in the art of boxing. Wilder isn't much of a boxer, he's more a brawler, and relies on that right hand, which to be fair to him up until he came up against Fury, and even to a certain extent during the Fury fight has worked for him.

So, I'm not trying to say Wilder doesn't deserve to be in that ring, but I can't see him making drastic changes with a little over a year to do it in. Especially, since he lacks some of the fundamentals of boxing anyway. He will likely be counting on that big right hand of his again, and who knows Fury might get caught again. In the second fight, Fury didn't give him much time at all to wait for that perfect moment. Instead, he put him on the back foot, and quite frankly was boxing his head off. I don't think Wilder will come up with a solution to that, other than what he's been doing to his other opponents for a while; using that big ol' right hand of his to knock them on their arse.
3282  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Is it possible to hack a digital currency wallet? on: May 21, 2021, 03:37:38 PM
It's very hard to answer your question because the term "wallet" is very broad. Also, this isn't just an easy discussion... You can probably write a master thesis on this subject, and you still would not have covered every aspect.
Yeah, but the question is can "digital currency wallets" be hacked; which the simple answer would be; yes. However, you are quite right that there are factors to be considered when you are looking at an individuals wallet, how they secure it, how they use it, how often they use it, what medium is it stored on, do others have access to the computer, how secure is your password, and a bunch of other variables that I won't even get into to.

However, the simple answer is that given the right information or access a wallet that stores your Bitcoin could potentially be compromised, and therefore you should try every mitigating factor that is feasible to you to try, and prevent that.

In a desktop wallet, the main attack vectors are vulnerability's in the software wallet itself, the use of a weak password (so it can easily be brute-forced), physical access to the machine holding the wallet,... Also, the storage of the seed phrase and wallet files are potential vulnerability's
In these instances given though, its not down to the software. Its down to how the user is using the software. So, how secure the user has made their password, how they intend to remember that password, i.e do they store it on paper, where do they store that paper, and does anyone else know that they use that password. In terms of physical access, that is another flaw in the persons security rather than the software itself. Same goes for the storage of the seed phrase, and wallet files. Although, definitely I'm not claiming that the software cannot be compromised, but the listed reasons would be down to the fault of the person, rather than the software used. Which would likely be the weakest part of anyone's security, the person as with most other things.
3283  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: looking for a active trading companion on: May 21, 2021, 03:27:34 PM
Have you ever considered using a bot to purchase, and sell at certain points. I'm not aware of many to be honest, but I know that Gunbot was a popular one back in the day. Basically, it allows all sorts of ways to invest, but at the very basic level you could set a buy price, and then a sell price. So, it would then do this automatically, even when you sleep which would remove any kind of emotion.

The only thing is; you would have to purchase Gunbot, and then you would have to find a hosting solution to be able to host it 24/7.
3284  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Reputable escrow without network fees? on: May 21, 2021, 03:23:19 PM
LBC is an escrow itself. I don't think it is possible for a person to escrow a transaction on LBC. LBC will also only facilicte certain types of transactions.
I haven't looked at LocalBitcoins in a while, but I was under the impression that you could choose to not use their built in escrow services, and contact your own if you wanted too?

I haven't used it in a few years, but I'm sure that was possible when I used it. Seems a bit odd that they would remove that feature, you know to promote being decentralized, and all that. I guess its less liability of their hands, if someone selects a untrustworthy escrow.
3285  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: What's your favorite way to earn Cryptos? on: May 21, 2021, 03:18:09 PM
I'll be honest, if anyone wants to sponsor me to do expeditions, and carry your company flag around that would be my favorite way of earning Bitcoin. However, at the moment I treat Bitcoin as any other currency I would accept. My favorite way of earning full stop is when I'm proud of the work I'm doing, and hopefully it's allowed some creative freedom while doing that.

I actually quite enjoy getting paid for the moderation work I do here too. I love the forum, and I love contributing to the forum via helping out, and getting paid for it is the cherry on top. Lets not ignore signature campaigns either, I'm sure a lot of users, myself included appreciate that our posts are deemed substantial enough to earn money with them.

If you have the means necessary, and the budget. Mining is actually super rewarding. You get to tinker about with the system, and try optimize it as best as you can to earn as much as you can. Its pretty addicting if your a nerd like me, and like to keep the temperature at an acceptable level.
3286  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: UEFA Europa League Discussion Thread on: May 21, 2021, 03:15:48 PM
I said a while back that I would need to look at the team sheet before making a bet, but I believe Fred the main culprit I thought that was detrimental to that Manchester United team picked up an injury at the end of the last game I do believe. So, I'm actually a little bit more confident that United take this home. I just thought that Fred breaks up their fluid play, and against Liverpool he actually contributed more to the Liverpool attack than he did for any part of the game for United.

Exactly. Man United have their place in the final standings guaranteed. You no longer have to fight for anything else in the championship. English teams are not fanatical about winning, the important thing is to win in the right games. I believe that Man United is looking at these last games, as training games, to study the best strategy for the UEFA final.

Villareal, on the other hand, must continue to fight to get a place in the Europa League for the next season.

We are talking about two different levels. The likelihood of Villarreal reaching the final against Man United with the most tired players is much greater.
Completely disagree with this. Manchester United will want silverware to boast about, and not only that silverware directly translates to more money. The more money the club generates the more likely they are to part with their money for players, and wages. Plus, as someone who has played at a relatively low level I still wanted to win every game regardless. They definitely won't be treating this as a friendly, and the players certainly won't. Its their legacy at the end of the day, and there's only a few games left of the season.

3287  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Boxing]: Arbitration judge orders Fury vs Wilder 3rd fight on: May 21, 2021, 03:10:31 PM
Plot twist, Wilder wins against Fury, reclaims his belt, and he then challenges AJ.

Just kidding.

If nothing significantly changes for both fighters, Fury will win again. Regarding the judge's decision, I think it's correct because they cannot turn down rematch clause just because of the pandemic.
When you step in the ring with someone like Wilder they always have a chance. Wilder probably still does have one of the biggest punches in boxing. Fury has got caught more than once with it, and of course the famous one, it was pretty damn close to being counted out. I think personally Fury will come in the same fashion as last time, put Wilder on the back foot, and as we saw last time Wilder doesn't really know how to fight while he is backpedaling.

For Wilder to have anything more than a chance of a big punch, he would have had to work on his jab, managing the distance better, working on fighting off the back foot, and moving his head more. I don't see him working on all of that in around a year, considering he had an injury which was originally the reason for moving the fight back.
3288  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Boxing]: Tank Davis vs Barrios - June 26 on: May 21, 2021, 03:07:24 PM
Barrios to win via decision. He's got a tremendous height advantage, and also has the reach advantage by quite a significant margin. So, Davis is known for his knockout power, but Barrios has such the height advantage he should find it easier to keep the distance, and away from the power shots. I can see Davis having some success with uppercuts if he were to close the distance, but my gut is telling me Barrios will fight a smart fight, keep the distance, and utilize that jab of his.
3289  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Merit is not for free. on: May 21, 2021, 03:04:19 PM
Karma is another forms of Merit Reddit use to qualify or reward a user who make a good composition of write-up or communication, so this is also related to Facebook likes, which Facebook user's use like to appreciate someone images or postures in picture, and also a text of someone.
From my interpretation, and understanding of Reddit's up voting system is its to up vote things that you believe deserve more visibility. Remember, that Reddit isn't by default sorted in chronological order, and while it can be filtered by new, most sub reddits are defaulted to "hot". Thus, whatever you upvote has more chance of being seen by others.

Merit isn't comparable since merit is less prone to abuse, doesn't effect visibility (you could argue that merit posts stand out slightly more, but it still doesn't effect the order of things), and is given to reward those for making substantial posts.

Reddit's system is therefore not even comparable. Remember, that anyone can upvote including those that just signed up. So, theoretically you could inflate upvotes or downvotes simply by creating an account farm. Here on Bitcointalk the merits are limited, and by design less merit per merit sent. Of course, we have merit sources which keep injecting a certain amount of merit each month based on theymos' calculations, but normal users are receiving half of a merit for every one merit they receive.
3290  Economy / Economics / Re: Alternatives to currency issued by banks and governments on: May 21, 2021, 02:15:55 PM
Well, in some ways banks have already achieved digital currency. The number in your bank account, doesn't directly correlate to gold being sent physically every time you issue a transaction. So, we are already approaching that digital world, where cash is becoming less, and less relevant. However, they haven't delved in Cryptocurrencies or at least their "own" digital currency as of yet. I'm not sure if they would be able to pull that off, as there would need to be some sort of benefit to it, and I suspect that this would attract a lot of tension between the governments, and the banks. Banks already have a massive amount of control with traditional currencies, and the governments can find out exactly how much you've got. So, at the moment we are already at that dangerous level of them having complete control of your money.

Bitcoin was created to allow you to take back that control. However, the scalability is the issue. My thoughts are that we will likely see either a sidechain or a complete alternative to Bitcoin to solve this. Bitcoin would then be seen as the foundation or building steps rather that the solution to the problem. I'm not quite sure which is more likely at this point, but there will definitely be change towards making either Bitcoin or cryptocurrency more viable in terms of scalability. We've already seen half solutions to the issue.
3291  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Message signing utility on: May 21, 2021, 02:07:48 PM
Thank you all for your replies and yes, I already know how to sign and verify.

I did not know one needed to sign a message in order to trade in some situations, I thought the bitcoin would be send to an address controlled by the broker as colateral for the operations or something like that.

Ah right, I see. Yeah, so usually this is done at proof of funds or to prove that you have escrowed an amount. If you are using an escrow, then they will usually sign the address which is holding the funds to let both parties know that they are basically in control, and therefore the trade can proceed. Unless your escrowing, you'll only need to sign a message as proof of funds, as some times people require this if an escrow isn't being used, and they intend to go first. Really though, normal usage you should be using an escrow whenever possible, and the need for you to sign a message isn't very frequent at all.

If you are trading, then signing a message isn't needed, unless you are doing peer to peer trading, and they require proof of funds.

3292  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Benefit of cryptocurrency in developing countries on: May 21, 2021, 02:05:13 PM
Lastly trading needs studying because it is a profession.
You need to study trading very well to be able to trade effectively.
I guess this depends on your definition of trading. Since, technically waiting a long time period trades is still trading. Frequent trading usually takes a little bit more skill in anticipating what news could effect the market, but generally if you believe in Bitcoin in the long run, you could simply invest, and then take out a certain amount, once your target threshold has been hit.
3293  Other / Meta / Re: 210 posts merited (by me) in just over 3 minutes – What’s got over me? (v 9.0) on: May 21, 2021, 02:02:04 PM
There are so many users out there that I find quite reductive for a merit source merit ting the same user over and over (speaking of my own experience, with all the due respect to other’s habits and preferences).

Somewhat natural. There's only a limited amount of users, and depending on the sections you visit, that'll be concentrated ten fold. Unless, you yourself visit a lot of sections on the forum, I would accept most merit sources merit to be concentrated to one or two sections. This is likely some of the criteria considered when Theymos allocated merit sources.

For example, you'll see this habit a lot more in local sections where the user base is much lower than other sections. Its not necessarily a bad thing.
3294  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Football Transfers Speculation, Odds and Predictions on: May 21, 2021, 01:57:56 PM
Levy is likely to out price most clubs, and I think I would even include Real Madrid in that. The only club I see that would be willing to outbid most other clubs, and actually need a striker is Man City. Aguero recently signed a contract again didn't he? I'm sure I read that, but even if he did hes an injury prone player, and age is only going to make that worse if anything. So, Man City ideally need a top striker, and I'm not convinced that Gabriel is that man.

I do think the best fitting club would likely be Man Utd, I can't really put my finger on why since Man Utd have a rather quick attack right now with the likes of Martial, and Rashford, but I can imagine Kane in a Man Utd shirt. If it was down to Kane, I think he would choose Man Utd over anyone in the Premier League.

I don't think Real Madrid suits Kane, and if I was Kane I would look at the recent movements from England to Spain, and consider whether or not he would be a vital part of that success. It seems players like Gareth Bale, Coutinho who were doing fantastic in the Premier League at the time, moved to Spain, and also become a part of the background. Hazard is another example, but that is mainly through injury.
3295  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Boxing] Floyd Mayweather vs. Logan Paul - June 6 on: May 21, 2021, 01:53:06 PM
KO in the first round wont happen just because people who have bought PPV need a show. But seeing Logan Paul KO'ed is something I wish also Cheesy I'm also sick and tired of all these immortal youtubers. Professional sport and fun must be divided. Or at least make fights where fighters have equal skills and don't do mismatches of freak matches just for the money. If people seek for fight, freaks and fun - welcome to WWE Cheesy
I'm much rather Mayweather get KO'd by Logan just because of the amount of press it would get, and ultimately it would be hilarious. Imagine it, the self proclaimed GOAT, and a lot of fans sort of echoing that getting knocked out by a predominately Youtube entertainer, who has previously got beaten, and drew with a Youtuber who is most famous for playing video games.

It would be absolutely hilarious. Although, I have been quite open in stating that the chances of that are completely minimal. I'm not even sure I would want to see Logan get knocked out, I would prefer if it went the distance if Mayweather were to win.
3296  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: May 21, 2021, 01:50:38 PM
This is not about the heart of a champion. He needs to go down to featherweight division if he wants to win again. He dominated that division and he was confident that he could win in upper weight divisions but he was able to dominate Eddie Alvarez but when he started facing tough competition in that division his weakness was exposed.
I'm not sure, Conor can still beat the best of them. I think in the recent Poirer fight he actually caught him a couple of nicely, and gave him a buzz. The thing is everyone knows if you weather the storm Conor is going to be gassed. He's talked about working on his fitness, but I haven't seen any massive improvements in that regard.

If he stays in 155 or moves up like he has done, I think we will see him pick up a few wins here, and there, but nothing like the earlier domination simply because hes a risky type fighter, and the top guys know how to keep out of danger with him. At least to some extent.
3297  Other / Meta / Re: Whats the point of this website? on: May 20, 2021, 04:36:56 PM
I like to think of this forum as a sort of safe haven to discussion about anything related to cryptocurrencies. Where freedom of speech is usually much better than alternatives, doesn't have a broken popularity voting system, and doesn't have over zealous rules. Plus, is probably one of the only places which actually promotes substantial discussion, rather than the social media type replies the modern world is going towards.

Also, how nice is it to have a place which isn't littered with memes? Don't get me wrong, I enjoy a meme or a funny image from time to time, however constantly recycled memes are tedious, and just destroys actual discussion.

it doesn't alter its visibility. Anything slightly controversial, non-mainstream, or unpopular on Reddit, regardless of whether or not it is actually correct, might as well not be posted, as within an hour it is downvoted to oblivion and hidden from the majority of users.

It's particularly noticeable if you go in to a thread about a topic you are particularly knowledgeable about. I've seen blatantly wrong and sometimes even dangerous information be upvoted to the top, with attempts to correct or clarify be downvoted and hidden. If you can identify that happening in threads you are knowledgeable about, then the only logical conclusion is that it is also happening in threads you are less knowledgeable about, meaning Reddit can't be trusted for any meaningful discussion.
Exactly, and this is my biggest issue with Reddit. Reddit can be fantastic to read sometimes, but its so easily manipulated, you wouldn't want to read topics which are particularly sensitive or important, due to the fact that anyone with a motive could easily impose their views on it, simply by creating a massive farm of accounts to down vote content they disagree with.

If you are into politics, which I'll be honest I don't tend to stop by the politic sub reddit, its likely full of this sort of behaviour.
3298  Economy / Speculation / Re: Buying the current dip (~30k) on: May 20, 2021, 04:28:59 PM
There are too many negative statements now, from India, Elon musk, and some other news still pointing to bearishness,
I don't know for sure, has bearish taken over bullish? bitcoin can go back to as level at $ 50k.
Negative statements only really influence those that were influenced to get into Bitcoin in the first place. Call them sheep, call them what ever you want. However, they likely aren't buying into Bitcoin to use it as a currency or a way of supporting the technology that Bitcoin has implemented. They wanted to make money, and the first time there's any resistance to that vision, they'll sell.

This is then countered by those that are looking to invest, with a optimistic view point for the long term. So, really these statements only effect things in the short term, but really most investors should be looking at the long term, and not a get rich quick scheme.
3299  Economy / Speculation / Re: Fucking rich whoever bought bitcoin around $30,000 -$31,000 on: May 20, 2021, 04:24:52 PM
Personally, I see what happened yesterday, a clear price manipulation.
Not sure I would agree with the clear price manipulation. Although, there was definitely people out there that were influenced by some statements  from others in the space, which definitely caused many people to panic. My interpretation is; those that have invested based on the public shifting in favour of cryptocurrencies likely bailed, once a few individuals, and companies turn towards a more hostile outlook (if we can actually call it that, but in their perception they likely saw it as that) the act of these panic selling drove the price down, but this was the perfect opportunity for those that have standing orders, and those that leaped at the opportunity to grab more Bitcoin for less, which resulted in another turn in the tide, and increased the value.
3300  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Benefit of cryptocurrency in developing countries on: May 20, 2021, 04:15:29 PM
Developing countries aren't likely to benefit from the features implemented in Cryptocurrencies directly. Instead, due to the nature of cryptocurrencies, and the frequent swings within what most would consider a very volatile market, it creates investment opportunities which could potentially land an investor a significant amount of profit. If you were a citizen in a developing country, and you invest only $10 worth back in 2010, you would be absolutely swimming in it now if you held on this long. That's what developing countries, or more specifically their citizens can benefit from cryptocurrencies.
