3161  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: If bitcoin as currency, how the merchant manage the block confirmation? on: July 01, 2021, 10:34:06 PM
Ultimately, it comes down to trust. The same way handing cash to the cashier does too. Merchants already check certain notes for counterfeiting, but they are well aware that customers will sometimes try to pull the wool over their eyes, or actually be using counterfeit money without them actually knowing it is counterfeit. So, the problems that exist with Bitcoin, largely exist in fiat too. The difference, and the only valid point here is the confirmation time. However, as explained above, and just to expand upon it; It is ultimately up to the discretion of the merchant, whether or not they wait for a confirmation or not. Many don't, because there's a very small chance that anything does go wrong, once the transaction turns up on the Blockchain.

Bitcoin might not be acceptable for fast food chains or takeaways which would require confirmations. However, as suggested above you usually pay your check after the fact you've eaten your meal. Therefore, Bitcoin would be no different, because as long as a adequate fee was used it should be confirmed by the time your done eating.

What I do think could potentially happen; is the fee process will become streamlined, and there will be a merchant determined fee, that you'll need to include to assure that it confirms on time. However, this would likely be done using QR codes or something similar to avoid any issues.
3162  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: For "Bitcoin Ded" Topic creators on: July 01, 2021, 10:29:07 PM
I agree with whats been said to some extent, although Bitcoin most certainly isn't immune to criticism. There are definitely shortcomings, and issues which ideally need to be addressed, and fixed in the future, if we are to increase adoption. Along with other issues out of the control of fixing; volatility isn't great for convincing people that Bitcoin is a currency, and just a investment opportunity.

Although, as suggested above those that are on the extreme level of criticizing Bitcoin, either lost Bitcoin recently due to their actions or they are trying to influence, and manipulate the market. Obviously, they don't quite understand how to do that, and therefore resort to random claims on a internet forum.
3163  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Looking for advice on a full node on: July 01, 2021, 10:22:29 PM
As long as you have the minimum requirements (I'm not sure what Raspberry Pi you're running) all of the above should be fine, and is likely down to personal preference.

To expand on the point above about RaspiBolt. It has good documentation available along with Raspiblitz, which reduces the complexity, which I believe is set out a little better than some of the alternatives. So, if you are new its probably a decent starting point.
3164  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: George Soros is now officially trading bitcoin. Good or bad? on: July 01, 2021, 10:16:57 PM
Money is not important to you if you can have it as much as you want or print it to infinity, but you can always have more control and it seems that is what turns on some rich people.
Money is control. Our world is run on money.

Therefore off course its important. Otherwise, we would see less millionaires/billionaires tax evading. So, claiming money not being important past a certain point, I would disagree. We don't know their goals, and quite evidently, they don't just hang up their boots for a lack of a better phrase. Myself, it wouldn't be important past a certain point, since I'd probably retire, and just enjoy my life not having to worry about anything, but that's no the attitude of these individuals, and they continue to look for opportunities to earn money. I think money is, and always will be important to them.
3165  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ⚽UEFA EURO 2020 Discussion Thread | Current Phase: Finals in June 2021! on: July 01, 2021, 04:37:37 PM
Are we writing off Switzerland against Spain? I personally feel that Spain haven't been impressive at all in this competition. While Switzerland might be performing above expectations right now, I believe they have some quality players, that can turn the tables against Spain.

The only issue is; Xhaka. You never really know what your going to get from him. He played brilliantly last match, but he has a tendency to lose his temper. and composure when things start going wrong. If he performs, I think they beat Spain this time out, and judging by the odds they are a very lucrative option.
3166  Other / Archival / Re: [PROPOSAL] Reporter Popup Update on: July 01, 2021, 02:55:30 PM
ya, I got it, but, I mean, when we select "Other", we will need to enter our report information there, this looks like we are repeating what we we are doing at the moment. Overall, if we keep working on this idea, I'm not sure it will become more useful in the future, sometimes, I find that entering information for each report helps us to have reports which more detailed than in general cases.
You could potentially implement a system like this, but have it optional. Although, then most people would likely not use the new implementation, and just continue writing up without categorizing their report. Honestly, I'd like to see us implement things that encourage reporting, rather than complicating or attempting to streamline the process like this, which in my opinion wouldn't benefit a lot of people.

I'd like to see the reporter badges implemented as an example, regardless what changes need to be made to make it work, as I believe that would increase the incentive for reporting posts. We aren't really struggling with lack of detailed reports in my opinion, but rather those reporting them.
3167  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Million dollar win on $15 parlay whoa on: July 01, 2021, 01:43:43 PM
Yup, parlays are difficult to hit and they're not recommended since it can drain your bankroll continuously depending on how much units you risk on each parlay.
Depends on your outlook while betting. I mean, I don't really gamble, and expect a profit. I do it for fun, and I usually do it on things that I'll be watching to make it that little bit more fun for me. It probably isn't recommended to do accumulators if your expecting a payout, but then again I'd argue that you shouldn't be gambling as a way of making profit in the first place, since its probably unlikely. Hence why gambling websites make so much revenue.

Plus, when you have a massive accumulator coming in, albeit not as big as this guys the stakes of that fight or football match is so much higher, and it really does heighten the feeling, regardless of whether it comes through or not. Disclaimer, I've never won big.
3168  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Elon Musk and Jack Dorsey agree to talk about bitcoin at an event in July on: July 01, 2021, 12:44:44 PM
No matter your opinion on Elon, he has likely increased adoption in the long term, and only negatively impacted Bitcoin in the relatively short term. So, despite the general attitude towards him right now, he likely has done more good for cryptocurrency than bad.

You could argue market manipulation, but that would be hard to determine. He's definitely influenced the market, but its whether or not he personally gained from it that matters.

I wish there is someone that can make him look stupid in one of these discussions he is having.
What exactly would you do this? How is Elon being a fool in the first place? His decisions recently, and comments have obviously been fueled by a hidden motive. I believe as I expressed above that the Tesla decision was primarily for business image. Since, and I'll reiterate its never a good thing to implement a technology which is frowned upon by the public for causing pollution, especially when your company is trying to push the idea that they are providing a better future, and reducing pollution. Whether its true or not, the important part is if people believe it. Since, if people believe it, it'll likely push sales down, and negatively impact Tesla.
3169  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 650 U.S. banks will soon be able to offer bitcoin purchases on: July 01, 2021, 12:38:38 PM
This is good news for adoption, and potentially transitioning the general public to converting to being their own bank with Bitcoin. Although, personally I'd prefer to avoid storing large amounts of money in banks, and manage it myself.

It is not surprising considering more and more government starts to accept and legalize crypto. Hopefully, this won't result in a closed environment of crypto trading where people need to register and do lots of KYC, with limited trading activity, and so on.
This is very likely the route it will eventually take. Banks usually don't like you sending large amounts to unidentified banks, due to the issue with scamming, and they sort of have a duty of care. Therefore, they'll likely require users to register, and fill out KYC just because first they'll need to do it under law if it exceeds a certain amount, they'll likely work with the tax man to assure everyone is declaring their taxes, and to prevent illegal activity.
3170  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Forum moderation policy on: July 01, 2021, 12:34:53 PM

see the description above which explains that the words "free speech"
can the moderator give merited as an appreciation for the post he likes ?

Moderators aren't censored or restricted for any actions in the forum outside of their moderator duties. Therefore, they can merit any post that they wish. Moderators or any staff user for that matter can also be a merit source. Although, AND I can't be clear enough in this; DO NOT use the report function to report posts to be merited, that is not what it is for.
3171  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: George Soros is now officially trading bitcoin. Good or bad? on: July 01, 2021, 12:30:24 PM
Likely irrelevant in the long term, and might result in some instability, and price swings in the short term depending on timing of investment, and how much is invested. You could argue that price swings are good for you in the short term, or not. Really does depend on the individual, and your specific goals. Although, as for the longevity of Bitcoin, it might help with exposure, and might encourage some adoption, but other than that it shouldn't have a big impact on it.

George Soros don't care about making more money because he has more than enough of it, but he does care about controlling everything and he is obviously not controlling Bitcoin.
All we can expect from his fund is to manipulate the market or add some more strict regulations for Bitcoin, so I don't see this as anything positive for Bitcoin and crypto.
This Soros Fund Management donated $10 million to Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign and we all know how that end up, but they, they also acquired a stake  in Lehman Brothers just before their failure in 2008.
The only reason he would want to manipulate the market would be to profit off of it. This could potentially be the reason they are investing, although I don't think George Soro' has as much influence of other investors that are currently invested in Bitcoin. Therefore, he's unlikely to manipulate it significantly, unless its from volatility due to the amount invested.
3172  Other / Meta / Re: Bitcointalk has lasted a long time. Good job. on: July 01, 2021, 12:21:14 PM
So if you ask me what is the heart of this community, I'll tell you it's the fact that you can get professional help and advice from patient individuals who will take on anything thrown at them, and most of the times, they'll find a solution. And it's free.
I wouldn't just limit it to that. I'd say why this forum has been so successful would be a combination of Satoshi being a fundamental part of the draw, even after he became inactive. The fact that there's been multiple big occurrences on the forum that have embedded itself in history, the 50 btc pizza springs to mind. However, the absolute reason its so successful is because of the community. This forum has been fragmented at times, with various users squaring up against each other, but there's always been a collective mentality to discuss all things Bitcoin, while primarily focusing on quality discussion around it.

Simply put; This forum has lasted so long, because of its community. Right from the newbies asking the questions, right up to theymos making the decisions.
3173  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Million dollar win on $15 parlay whoa on: July 01, 2021, 12:12:15 PM
What a luck!

I wonder what is the maximum profit a user can get from betting on that bookie. It must be huge tho. $1.36 million could ruin the bookie's bankroll. AFAIK, at crypto casinos, the max win on a bet would around $50k.  Wink
Generally yeah. It usually differs on the sport too. So, big players like bet365, and SkyBet have a higher payout on premier league games. I'm not sure why this is, unless they be think its harder to predict games in the higher leagues, and therefore don't mind increasing the max payout. Newly established cryptocurrency betting sites will more than likely cap it below 50k. Always worth checking their terms of services before betting on any site, as you might have been adding too many bets on your accumulator without actually gaining anything if you did win.
3174  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: July 01, 2021, 09:51:46 AM
You shouldn't underestimate Ciryl Gane IMO. Even if Ngannou is a tough fighter with several KO victories in the first round, you shouldn't forget they come from the same team together, the Paris MMA Factory, so Ciryl Gane, his coach and his team know Ngannou very well , and all his weak points too. If Gane says he's ready to fight Ngannou you can believe him, his game plan is already made.
Moreover Ngannou is only HW champion since one single match and he has yet to show how he's able to defend his title.
The same is true for Ngannou too. They both know each others styles, and quite honestly us fans also know the styles of these two. They aren't that unpredictable, especially Ngannou. Yet, they keep getting wins, despite others knowing the danger. Its simply because Ngannou is a powerful dude, and unless your perfect on the night, hes going to catch you at least once, and because of the power that he throws his shots, its likely lights out if he catches you cleanly.

That is true, Ngannou isn't super experienced in terms of defending his title. Although, it would be unfair to not give him props for his athletic ability, and fighting capability. He's been fighting from a young age, and he isn't going to just lose that because hes now defending his title. I think I would argue its harder to challenge for the title, and to defend it. Unless, de-motivation seeps in to already achieving their goal.
3175  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Elon Musk and Jack Dorsey agree to talk about bitcoin at an event in July on: June 30, 2021, 10:16:18 PM
And who cares if they "have a plan" for bitcoin?  Musk's opinion has no bearing on the value or use of bitcoin.
Depends on semantics here. However, I do believe Elon Musk does have influence, and that in turn effects the price of Bitcoin in the short term, and could actually increase or decrease the adoption rate of Bitcoin, based on his views. After all, he's a celebrity which is probably considered a genius by many or at the very least one of the brightest minds alive today, and therefore anything he advocates is going to encourage his followers to bank hard on what he is advocating.

That's exactly why infulencers these days are making a lot of money, and are the primary target for advertisers. People listen to them.
3176  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Elon Musk and Jack Dorsey agree to talk about bitcoin at an event in July on: June 30, 2021, 10:11:12 PM
When Elon Musk talks positively about Bitcoin in this discussion, just watch how many people do a complete u-turn, and start advocating for Elon Musk. This will likely have a impact on the price of Bitcoin in the short term, so also be wary of that.

I honestly hope that Elon Musk changes his view about the whole bitcoin mining and the environmental causes, because after seeing what his statements affected the last price jump made it clear to everyone how much influence he has and how important his statements are
He believe most of what has been said by Elon or by Tesla has been blown out of proportion anyway. Tesla, discountined the usage of Bitcoin to purchase their cars, simply because of the stigma around Bitcoin, and its pollution with mining. That doesn't exactly look great for a car manufacturer who is trying to convince its customers that electric cars are the future, because they are more environmentally friendly. They also themselves in their statement, suggested that cryptocurrencies could be added back in the future, once this concern has been rectified.

They didn't launch an attack against Bitcoin or cryptoccurencies. It was likely the shareholders within the company putting pressure on their decision to implement a currency which is linked with negative press.
3177  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: In desperate need of a Coach/mentor. on: June 30, 2021, 10:07:44 PM
Besides, if you follow the advice from the others in this thread, and use the forum. You'll have multiple different mentors, from all kinds of different walks of life, and therefore different perspective. So, you can use your own intuitive to decide on what advice to take or not. The thing is with any mentor, they'll likely pass their own bias on to you, even unknowingly. At least if you are exposed to multiple different perspectives you can choose ones which you align with the most.

There's also books on Bitcoin, which will definitely have a bias depending on who they are written by, but will likely have some decent information. Really though, most important figures inside Bitcoin, have been on this forum, and probably active at some point. Take a look at Satoshi's old posts, gavins etc.

Also, if your looking for a mentor in trading. Then, that's going to be a whole kettle of fish with different perspectives, and most will likely be based on their gut feeling, and what they perceive as patterns. Although, there might not actually be any real pattern there.
3178  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Million dollar win on $15 parlay whoa on: June 30, 2021, 10:02:02 PM
A long time ago I used to bet insane parlays everyday with a buddy from work. We would only put a dollar in every day, but we hit a few for a couple thousand dollars. I think it’s important to remember while looking at the wins is great, this gambler probably had many losses to go along with it. Still though, this is obviously a huge life changing win. This is the sort of story that brings people to bet.
I'm that guy. I don't actually make sensible bets, I put small amounts of money on 5/6+ long accumulators hoping they come in. A few times I've been absolutely sweating it when there's one or two bets left on the card, and I'm watching it live. I can't imagine how this guy felt.

If he is betting small amounts like this usually, I think he's more than made up for many of the losses he suffered though.

This do only happens once a in a lifetime hit and we dont know on how long he had been betting with parlays with minimal bet.
Probably a long ass time. Although, I bet the pros of winning this time, outweighs the amount of times he likely put a unlikely bet on. Unreal.
3179  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: June 30, 2021, 09:59:26 PM
I'm fancying Derrick Lewis all day long in the next fight. Don't get me wrong, Gane is talented, and I did say he needed to have a few more fights before taking on some of the bigger names. Well, I think Derrick will catch him too many times, and put him to sleep. Although, I will say if he can beat Derrick, while taking some of his shots I'll be impressed, and will buy into the hype into Gane a little more.

On a side note, I'm rewatching some of The Ultimate Fighter seasons, and its interesting to look at some of the guys from the old seasons, and how far they reached it in UFC or MMA in general. Some of them that didn't win the show, had some respectable records.
3180  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: June 27, 2021, 10:45:19 AM
What a card last night was. I actually missed a few fights, because I didn't realize it was such a early start. I found the Gane fight a little underwhelming, and I really thought Volkov would have come out with something more. While the scorecards more or less reflected Gane's dominance, I didn't think it was as wide of a gap. I thought Volkov at least secured either the 1st or 4th round. Can't argue with the result though, Gane just did enough.

Although, I'll still stand by what I previously said; I think Gane needs to fight a few more fights before being fed to Ngannou. I think he gets absolutely destroyed in his current state.
