I've whitelisted 26 users in 6 weeks. Two of them have earned a lot of Merit already, none of them have been banned yet. I can't possibly know if they're ban evaders, but I've rejected many times more requests than I've accepted.
In comparison, I haven't had as many requests due to the nature of the thread that you made, but I've whitelisted 0 currently. Although, I haven't been actively reviewing it every day as I decided it would probably be better to add a gap to see how serious the user is, I did catch up with a few requests, and most never got back to me at all. Probably looking for a quick solution. Unfortunately, my methods probably are a little too robust, but as theymos says most users that hit the fee are for valid reasons,  and in my mind its up to them to convince me.

In addition to limiting by IP address, it is quite possible to calculate the number of your users through browser fingerprints. Probably everyone knows that browsers leave thousands of fingerprints in our systems, which remain in memory for a long time. And if some prints, especially smart users, can fake and change, that is, those that are almost impossible to change.
Using this system, you can easily ban fraudulent accounts on the forum, given that not everyone is ready to change their hardware for the sake of registering on the forum.
I would suspect that the majority of users here are browsing with Javascript turned off. I was prior to finding out it was cumbersome with moderation, and caused issues. However, because a lot of users use Tor here, NoScript is bundled in with the software, so there's an increased likelihood that they'll be blocking scripts.
2802  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread 2021/2022 on: September 01, 2021, 01:06:56 PM
I'll be honest I was quietly confident that Liverpool would take the league this season again. However, the lack of reinforcements, and the fact that we still look like we're going to struggle to score again this season, I think we'll be aiming for a top 4 finish again. I think on the off chance we can challenge for the title, but that is highly dependent on whether or not we keep everyone fit as our depth is rather thin. For example, if Firmino isn't back to his best, and scoring goals, same as Mane then we lack sufficient depth. If they get injured we have Origi on the bench, and Jota. Jota is fine, but Origi hasn't been Liverpool quality for a while now.

Is there any doubt that Solskjaer wouldn't "prefer" Cristiano Ronaldo, if he is good to go, in the starting eleven? He is CR7 and I don't believe that he needs something new to learn or to adapt. Besides, which coach will have available in his roster Ronaldo and will not use him asap? The only thing that can keep him out of the Man Utd squad is only injuries and cards. Grin
Even if he is Ronaldo, it doesn't mean he doesn't have to adapt to the players around him. Although, he comes at a time where the players are off for international break, and I do believe some clubs are preventing players from leaving the country, and playing international games. If that is the case, he might have a lot of time in between now, and when the next game is to adapt.

Some English accents particualrly the north can be a little hard to understand. However, so can Scottish, Irish, and Welsh if you aren't used to hearing them, as we've invented our own sayings that mean nothing in English or contradict themselves in English.

^  The main event was really good.  Giga Chikadze looks like the next big prospect at 145.  He could fight Max Holloway next who I think he could beat or at least be really competitive against...  And your boy is fighting this weekend:  Jack Shore.  Smiley
Yeah, I'll definitely be putting a bet on Jack Shore. Yeah, Giga Chikadze has been hyped up for a while. I did manage to watch the fight after the event, and he did decently well. Actually, probably better than I expected against a good opponent. Max Holloway last fight he absolutely dominated, didn't he set a record for number of punches in a UFC fight? Could be an interesting one, I think I would prefer Max over Giga though.

I missed this weekends event, the first time in a long time. What's the verdict from the main event? I haven't actually had time to watch any of the highlights yet. How did Daniel Rodriguez perform? I was expecting a knock out from him, but I see that Kevin Lee managed to take it to the distance, which is an achievement in its own right against someone like D Rod.
2805  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Sportsbet.io's English Premier League Football Pool Discussion Thread on: August 30, 2021, 10:11:25 PM
I had an absolutely awful weekend of predictions. I think I'm going to try, and remember them just before the games so I can get a little idea of the lineups before the games actually kick off, because that was a shocking weekend for me. International break now though, so who knows what players will pick up injuries as it always seems key players pick up injuries while on international duty.

I do believe that several clubs are preventing international players from joining their national team though, which I'm not sure I completely agree with. Should probably be up to the player if they want to risk their health with Covid, especially since its technically allowed for elite sportsman to travel. I suspect their exposure would be minimal due to always being in training, and hotels with the rest of the team.

Moderators within their own sections have the ability to edit any post, although this generally doesn't happen, and is transparent to the public whenever it does happen as mole0815 explains above, you can check any post when it was edited, and by whom. Obviously, global moderators probably have the ability to edit anywhere on the forum.

The only time I've personally seen, and edited posts myself is when there's multiple posts in a row, which would be better to be combined, than to be deleted as it could destroy the flow of the rest of the thread. Mprep, and I generally put a note in red stating we've edited it just to make it more apparent. This is a courtesy, and not really a requirement. Though, we do tend to avoid editing posts whenever possible, because of obvious reasons.

In short; not a new feature, and it's using the same way that you would edit your own post.
2807  Other / Archival / Re: Few Tips For Crypto Beginners on: August 24, 2021, 04:33:25 PM
This is usually the case in life; the more risk you take the more potential money you can make. However, the more risks you take the more likely you are to lose that money. Therefore, it's a question of how much risk you want to take, and what your skill set is. For example, long term holding could actually be the right way for you to generate the most money, maybe your economical instincts are bad, and therefore you can't accurately predict when the best time is to invest, and therefore you lose your investment often, which means it might have been more profitable just to hold. However, if you trade effectively you can generate more initial investment for long term holding.

You could potentially combine holding, and trading together. Something like I've done, I've only invested in apparent dips, and I've only ever sold much later down the line, because my initial goal was to hold it for longer, but things in life pop up which prompted me to taking some out.
2808  Other / Meta / Re: APPEALING FOR MY MAIN ACCOUNT on: August 24, 2021, 01:52:21 PM
Honestly I don't know if it's a temporary ban because it's over 7days now.
It's best to measure it in hours instead of days. There's 24 hours in a day so 7 * 24 = 168 hours. Therefore, your ban won't expire until 168 hours after the ban was issued, and I emphasis at the time of the ban, not the day that you saw it. While your ban might be due to expire on the seventh day, it will be at the time that the ban was issued, rather than that exact day.
2809  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread 2021/2022 on: August 24, 2021, 01:10:04 PM
Yeah I agree with you totally. Those news sites just sell false rumours in order to get some views. I follow only Fabrizio Romano and ever since I have followed I have never heard of any false rumours. All the rumours were true and went through. And it came from that source. Would love to see a list of such reporters tied up with the club.

Regarding Arteta , I know everyone are skeptical given the situation of the club and why won't they be, there haven't been any change in ranks or finishes ever since he came but reports are that club are having faith in him. You know it will run down after couple of flop shows but well let's see.
If anyone can compile a list of all the reputable journalists associated with each Premier League team I would be pretty grateful for that. I don't know most of them, and only know the journalists which are close to the club that I support, and follow. I literally never check popular news websites like TalkSport, Sky Sports or even the BBC since they usually quote tabloid nonsense.
2810  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ⚽ English Premier League Season: 2021/2022 on: August 24, 2021, 01:07:30 PM
^  West Ham’s squad is solid rn.  No need to bring in some fresh faces yet imo and the good thing is they held onto all of their core players.  These are the current departures just this summer:
Their squad is aging, and they have Europa football this season, which means they'll be playing a lot more games, and be a lot more congested. This increases the chances of injuries, but also fatigue. Their defense is particularly aging right now, and with a lot of those players like Cresswell, and Ogbonna being vital to their success. I think they would be wise investing in increased depth for the additional games that they have to play this season. That's the only reason I don't see them performing to the same level as last season, however if they get in a few new additions to the squad they should be able to cope easier.
2811  Other / Archival / Re: Few Tips For Crypto Beginners on: August 24, 2021, 12:53:59 PM
Alas, the examples of a small percentage of successful traders cannot be an argument that trading is a profitable business. This is rather an exception to the rule. Well, in order not to waste your time trying to become an exception to the rule, I recommend that everyone and everyone not engage in such activities. As a practicing day trader with 4 years of experience, I tell you this.
Hence my viewpoint of it being safer to hold, rather than more profitable. Trading is obviously very lucrative even outside of cryptocurrencies. However, I'd argue that it is even more lucrative with cryptocurrencies because of the frequent swings we have in the price. Its how wall street make their millions, and if your good at anticipating the swings then you can earn a lot of money. For the average user that isn't educated in economies, and cryptocurrency it would be hard, yeah. However, there are plenty of knowledgeable people over at the Wall Observer thread which are constantly making money, because they are good at anticipating it.

I wouldn't say there's only a select few that have been successful. Out of the trades that I've done, I've been successful 100 percent of the time at generating a profit. Although, admittedly that wasn't trading regularly, and was rather investing at a dip, and then waiting for quite a while after that to withdraw, and inject that money elsewhere.

If you purchased 1 Bitcoin at 100 quid, and then waited 10 years for it to be worth 200 quid, you would have earned 100 quid in total. However, if you invested 100 quid at year 1, then in year 2 during a dip you invested another 100, then sold once the economy recovered, and then went on to invest in another dip, and continue that process you're likely to have more than 100 profit if you timed it well. Trading has the potential to be significantly more profitable than just holding, however it's the risk associated with it that is the problem, not its profitability.

I'm kind of pointing out semantics rather than what I would recommend doing. Personally, even though I was lucky during the times I have traded, I would recommend holding over trading any day of the week, simply because I'm not that skilled at predicting the economy, and what is going on that could effect the price. I'm simply trying to point out that frequent trading has the potential to exponentially increase your wealth, but the risks for a average person probably aren't worth it.

Would I recommend trading to a newbie? That would depend on their knowledge of both economies, and Bitcoin. Therefore in the majority of the cases I would probably recommend that they hold Bitcoin until they reached their goal, whether that is cashing out for fiat or to use Bitcoin as a currency. However, I think the better advice would be determine your investment strategy based on your skill set.
2812  Other / Meta / Re: APPEALING FOR MY MAIN ACCOUNT on: August 24, 2021, 12:48:16 PM
With all due respect, i need to understand how 31 of my post got flagged as low-quality and got removed in just a day, which however I tend to believe it was a mistake as every of my reply correspond to each topic.
It isn't uncommon for a user to be reported this many times. In fact, it happens quite regularly. This is probably because the user reporting looks at the post history of a user that is spamming, and then continues to report all of their posts that they believe to be committing the same offense.

If it's a temporary ban, then just learn from your mistakes, and it won't be a big deal.
2813  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ⚽ English Premier League Season: 2021/2022 on: August 24, 2021, 12:41:35 PM
I don’t think Westham has been written off this season.  They’ve been doing well under Moyes both on the pitch and with their player transfer acquisitions... They better try to hold onto Declan Rice for as long as they can.  I’m pretty sure the big clubs would be asking for him in a season or two.
What I'm trying to say is that they performed above expectations last season, and now a lot of the people I've talked to or opinions across the internet including their own fans seem to think unless they bring in new additions to the team, they'll likely fall considerably short of the achievement of last season. I somewhat disagree, I think they need to shore up that defense, and keep Declan Rice. Although I definitely see him leaving next season. Although, they'll likely get 80-100 million for him, and as long as they invest that well they should be alright. In fact, could potentially be better off.
2814  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread 2021/2022 on: August 24, 2021, 12:38:51 PM
^^ Interesting. Popular football transfer news reporter yesterday reported that Mikel Arteta has full confidence of Arsenal board. I also think it is a bit hard to swallow but come again to think about it well would they allow so much transfers breaking the 100m mark in transfers if they didn't had confidence? We all know how Arsenal are in transfers but this transfer window they have been much active. I think Arteta still got chances left to prove himself.
Yeah, popular transfer news websites don't actually mean they're accurate. In fact, I'd say the most popular football transfer news reporters are working for terrible companies like the Sun, Daily Mail, and TalkSport. They aren't accurate at all, and the reason they're popular is because they get people talking about big transfers.

I personally recommend looking for journalists which are close to the club. For example, for Liverpool we have James Pearce, and Melissa Reddy who are exceptional sources for transfer news, because they're practically mouth pieces of the club. They are also decent for Everton I believe. They don't usually speculate too often, and when they do they make it clear that it is their opinion, rather than basing it on recent developments inside or outside the club.
2815  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Sportsbet.io's English Premier League Football Pool Discussion Thread on: August 24, 2021, 12:33:24 PM
I've put in scores for like 2/3 weeks just in case I miss them since I'm expecting to be somewhat busy over these weeks. I'm somewhat happy with my performance in the leaderboard at the moment. Literally, if it wasn't for Liverpool who I've guessed the correct score 2/2 times, I'd be significantly worse off than I am right now.
Yeah, that's rare. There's usually one or two crazy fuckers who predict some crazy upset. Sometimes I'm like wtf are these guys doing and then the score comes in  Cheesy.

Like I said before, this week is probably the last chance you'll get to sign up without being at a significant disadvantage. If you sign up now you will be given six points. The bottom three have 3.4, 4.5 and 5.5 so you'll be joint 40th but still have everything to play for.
I might just start putting in some crazy scores on teams like Leeds. I'll at least be playing for something. Even if that is the wooden spoon.

Ignacio Bahamondes also impressed me with a high kick. I think it will be on KO tops for a good time. In general, this event was one of those, where I liked prelims more than main card.
For me Ignacio Bahamondes was the most interesting fight of the night. I've seen this guy take an absolute beating, and still move forward. This time it was the complete opposite, and while he was still pressuring, he wasn't really taking too much damage. The only damage he was taking was from those pretty slick jabs, but they were never a massive threat to him. Last 10 seconds of the fight KO is always nice, especially if anyone put a bet on for a KO in the third round. Always the best odds to have a KO in the final round.
2817  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Visa purchases first NFT and crypto prices skyrocket. BTC passes $50k resistance on: August 24, 2021, 12:22:19 PM
OP, I don’t see the connection between Visa’s NFT purchase and Bitcoin’s surge back to $50,000. Is there truly a connection? Or is there someone out there merely trying to make a narrative about a connection?
Hard to tell. Humans are pattern recognising machines, and therefore when there isn't a pattern to be seen, we still see a pattern. As the age old saying goes; "Correlation doesn't equal causation". Although, this is often ignored when it comes to predicting, and analysing the price of Bitcoin. This isn't really a fault of anyone's it's just how our brains work.

All the same, I do feel that NFTs are a legitimate use case. Once we're past the punks hype, some of that might become clearer.
Similar systems have existed before the term "NFT" was coined. However, it was much more prevalent in the gaming industry rather than related to actual usable currency. I don't currently like the hype around NFTs, and to me it's quite obvious that people are buying into that hype, and paying through the nose to acquire them, when they aren't likely to be worth much at all in the future, at least most of them that is.
2818  Other / Meta / Re: Are Administrators/Moderators and Staff members useless? on: August 24, 2021, 12:18:05 PM
Why scams, abuses and everything bad around is not moderated, but the regular members have rights to decide what's wrong and right instead of the forum Staff/Moderators?
Personally, I think allowing the community to sort out community issues is probably the best approach, especially when it comes to subjective cases. Scams aren't always obvious, and it's best to catch a scam before it happens, right? Well, a moderator banning a user just because they seem like a scammer would open a whole can of worms, while if the community does it by applying a flag or trust rating, than trust rating can be openly disputed, and the user can still actively voice their concerns, and potentially continue trading despite the allegations, because there has been times where the allegations have been false. If we were to ban those users, the only way to currently appeal a ban his to email admins or appeal in Meta to other staff users. This would likely lead to accusations of corruption, although there's plenty of those accusations thrown around over the years. At least, with the community other community users can disagree in a open way, and sort out who the most suitable users are to judge others, and therefore be included in DefaultTrust, DT2, DT3, and so on.

The forum is full with non-sense, off-topic and spam and no one seems to care about it.
We all care about removing spam, there's moderators actively moderating around the clock to remove it. However, when your moderating a website the size of this forum it can be difficult. Especially, if you have a lot of users posting spam, but not enough suitable candidates for moderators.

If you guys do not know how to moderate a forum, take a look at Sythe, Powerbot, MMORPG and forums that let their Moderators to take actions.
It's not comparable. Do those forums have a eco system similar to Bitcointalk? Signature campaigns are both an advantage, and a disadvantage for the forum. We have our own eco system, but the drawback from that is it does create spam in itself. Bounties don't exist on the forums that you've mentioned, and therefore can't be compared.

Is that how things work like here? Is this some kind of gang-team forum membership where rules and moderation means nothing?
The trust system is far from perfect. However, you could potentially just carry on your day ignoring it. If you use escrow, and guard against the possibility to scam, then it likely won't effect your on forum trading all that much. I don't think anyone will disagree with you here, there's been multiple instances either several forum users gang up, or they are split down the middle, and go to war with each other. That unfortunately is what people do, we can guard against that, but really we can't stop it. This is evident in almost all industries I've been involved in, and worked in.
2819  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: [LIST] - Movies/Documentaries about Bitcoin and Blockchain on: August 24, 2021, 11:50:17 AM
There's also "The Rise and Rise of Bitcoin" which has a 7.2 rating on IMDB currently. I can't remember what ones I've actually watched on this list. I remember watching a few Bitcoin documentaries, but I wasn't overly impressed with some of them. I found some of them pretty inaccurate, and a lot of them dramatised. I guess to make a documentary about a cryptocurrency you have to somewhat dramatise it to keep the general audience engaged.
2820  Other / Archival / Re: Few Tips For Crypto Beginners on: August 24, 2021, 11:46:47 AM
Holding VS trading, and what is better for financial gain is something we could all argue until we are blue in the face. For example, I know plenty of people who are much better traders than myself, and make an absolute killing frequently trading. However, instead of arguing what is or isn't better, I personal view is holding Bitcoin is a safer, but not necessarily more profitable way of increasing your wealth. That's just because I believe in Bitcoin, and I believe that it will still significantly increase in value in the future.

However, trading is obviously a highly lucrative option, and if you can do it right, you can add to your wealth much quicker than you could if you were just holding. In fact, you could potentially mix the two, and trade for a little while, until you've reached your goal, and then hold for the foreseeable future.
