3201  Other / Off-topic / Re: Breaking News: John McAfee found DEAD in Spanish Prison on: June 24, 2021, 11:38:21 AM
Mcafee has definitely earned himself some enemies in his time. However, whatever your view might be regarding his exploits in anti virus protection or indeed cryptocurrencies, and of course not to forget his lifestyle in general. Its never nice to hear about someone's death. I'm not a big fan of any of his work to be honest, but he definitely had people talking about him while he was alive, and I'm sure he loved that. Of course, the circumstances of his death are going to fuel the Epstein comparisons, and his legend will probably become something regularly referenced in the next few decades.
3202  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: [Discussion] How has the forum affected your journey in the crypto space? on: June 24, 2021, 10:00:05 AM
There's more out there than in here, this forum is a limited environment. The forum could be said to be a form of distraction that's if you let it be though. You can see the countless amount for altcoins been launched via bounty campaigns on the forum almost daily, all those are distractions.
As long as you treat this forum as information to research, and not actual factual. Then this is probably the most centralized place on the internet to learn about Bitcoin. Plus, this forum has over 10 years of history to scroll through, including that of Satoshi's posts, and other important figures. So, you kind of get an insight on their attitude, and what they thought were issues back 10 years ago.

There's things to be learned with Altcoins, but most actually prove why Bitcoin works, and others don't. Most altcoins released today are absolutely worthless, and aren't interesting at all. In fact, most are carbon copies with only slight deviations from the other thousand released that week.
3203  Other / Meta / Re: Seeking reporter badge images on: June 24, 2021, 09:54:43 AM
I'm not sure what privileges the badges would come with but it probably wouldn't be worth the effort and the amount of people abusing it would be minimal and probably compared with how many people there are abusing the merit system as opposed to using it legitimately.
Probably best, if they didn't actually come with any privileges, and were just a visual thing. We know gamification works, as its been implemented in many other industries. I've mentioned about Universities using it in the past for their students. So, it doesn't need to come with an incentive other than the social status of displaying it on your profile.

Although, those that have earned a badge could get a reduction in their reporting cooldown depending on the level of reports they've reached. That would probably make sense without actually causing many issues at all.

If theymos is worried about clutter, maybe only allow a certain amount of badges per user to be displayed at one time. Either randomly or selected by the user. Maybe, only display it on their profile page, and not actually within threads.
3204  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: June 24, 2021, 09:48:27 AM
Both Gane, and Volkov can throw. However, I think I might actually fancy a bet of this going the distance. The odds will be decent, and while they guys do have decent engines, I think it might be a cagey one. Volkov knows that Gane is probably the better technical striker, and while Volkov probably has the power advantage Gane is going to be aware of that, which might just result in a cagey affair.

^  I’m not entirely convinced with Gane yet and Volkov is a slight step up in competition but Volkov is the underdog at 2.50?  Looks good to me..  I think the line should be closer imho.  And sure the technical skill advantage goes to Gane but Volkov has the grit.
Simply for the odds I'm going with Volkov. This is a close fight, and it could go either way. If the odds were closer I think I would still favour Volkov for as you say; the grit, and determination he has. Why do we think the odds are so in favour for Gane?

3205  Other / Meta / Re: Asking mods to show deleted and moved posts and topics on: June 22, 2021, 10:55:19 AM
If your post is directly deleted you should get a message via your personal messages that x post has been deleted, quoting the actual post. Moderators do sometimes leave redirection threads when appropriate, however this is only done in certain scenarios, otherwise the forum would quickly be overrun with redirection threads rather than actual content.

What I'm saying is that these mods and Admins kept deleting my posts that carried value.

Whenever I I made valuable remarks and posts they were deleted so that the users here wouldn't give me and my cause attention
You should have a notification via your personal messages, and if you want to seek clarification you can always ask referencing that quoted notification. Alternatively, contact a member of staff that can either give you the answer or check for you If its been reported, then its likely either the section moderator or global moderators.
3206  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Will governments ban Bitcoin like they did with Gold? on: June 19, 2021, 11:24:33 AM
Over 10 years is a long time and bitcoin has gone through a lot. If this was possible then we would have died already. So just relax, I think it's impossible to destroy all nodes and hypothetically say they destroyed all live nodes - how would anyone destroy the copies that are stored in individual drives?
They don't have to destroy every node. Of course, there will always be people running nodes, and there will be a sort of rebellion whatever the governments decide to do. However, they don't have to destroy every single node, they just have to make it hard to use the currency legally. That way, you would be risking possible prison sentences if you continue to use Bitcoin. Do I think this will become a reality? No, what I do think will happen is there will be tighter, and tighter regulations on Bitcoin, and the propaganda machine will keep on turning.

At the moment, Bitcoin isn't exactly a threat. Most governments are successfully taxing, and regulating Bitcoin. Bitcoin, isn't becoming the new way of managing your money, so banks aren't that scared. Of course, a lot of us are using Bitcoin that way, but the majority are treating Bitcoin as an investment due to the volatile nature of it.
3207  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin is a Force of Nature on: June 19, 2021, 11:18:15 AM
Calm down, Bitcoin is just open-source software, no need to make poetic comparisons to impress newbies. Yes, Bitcoin is cool and unique, but it's just a payment network that still needs to solve some big problems before it could even technically be able to serve all the people on the planet.
Even if it theoretically solved all of the problems that it faced. It would probably take a massive momentum, and mentality shift for it to ever become the currency that people primarily use. Bitcoin still has a negative stigma around it, and its quite clear that there's a bias against it from popular mainstream news outlets. Despite the technical challenges that Bitcoin has to solve in the future, the biggest hurdle I think will be convincing people to trust it as a currency, and not an investment opportunity.

That's assuming that we solve all the technical issues we face, and have the majority of supporters in agreement. What I believe might happen is there will be a division in the Bitcoin population, and that will cause it to fork many different ways, and could potentially take a whole different ideology.
3208  Other / Meta / Re: Signature spam - how to force users to read before replying? on: June 19, 2021, 11:09:05 AM
Reporting a thousand post to moderators only make it harder for them to focus on another area of the forum. We need to understand and know that people see things in different ways, as an Agricultural and food processing engineer I was taught that in every chemical processing there is always negative or positive reactions, the way people read and understand differs, the way people write also differs.
If there's a thousand posts which are report worthy, that signals that there either needs to be more moderation in that particular section or there isn't enough users reporting there. There should be more than enough moderators between us to handle extra reports. If there isn't, that signals to theymos that there needs to be additional moderators considered.

Its never a bad thing to report a post that you genuinely think breaks the rules. Only good comes from it. You either; get a better feel for the forum guidelines, remove spam from the forum or get better coverage of the forum by indicating there needs to be more moderators to theymos.

There are some ways that come to my mind:
1. We should report every similar post with the title: Meaningless! But that can be an extra pressure on moderators to check every post.
As I posted above, users shouldn't really factor whether they report a post or not on the pressure or workload of the moderators. Just report it. The worst that'll happen is it'll either get marked bad or remain unhandled if missed.

3. We should create a crowdsourced blacklist of those users and anyone will be able to add them in their ignored list (If it's possible, let's hide Ignored users from the threads they post, like they don't exist).
This has been tried, and tested before. It never really caught on. The thing is, there's so much bias, and subjection when it comes to creating a list, genuinely good users might be bundled into the list simply because the user curating it has a vendetta against them. Plus, its almost impossible to remain unbias especially without any real defined guidelines to users added to the list. So, there will be a huge difference in severity of user, the problem with that is they all get branded as one.
3209  Other / Archival / Re: Newbies bumping their thread more than once in 24h time period on: June 19, 2021, 10:45:56 AM
I would hate to see someone banned for this reason to be honest. Repeating such activity would certainly get someone banned but if they are a high quality respected member, instead I would PM them and notify them about the rules. This has happened last year, a Legendary member was bumping their thread within 24 hours of the previous bump. After noticing that, I PMed him and he said he was not aware of the rules.
A few moderators will reach out to someone that is repeatedly breaking the rules that they suspect they are doing unknowingly. Obviously, depending on the actual infringement. Although, users should take it under their own responsibility to know the rules of the forum that they are posting on. That's just general courtesy.

Although, every time a reply is deleted they get a message quoting it. So, I would assume that they would either look up the rules if this kept happening to them or reach out to someone. Otherwise, they likely don't care that they may have been breaking the rules.

I thought I was going to miss this event as I've been travelling a lot recently. However, it seems to be a early night for us in the UK, which means I get to see the Korean Zombie back in business! Hopefully, he can recover from his loss to Ortega.

My predictions at a glance:

Korean Zombie
Davey Grant
Bruno Silva
Khaos Williams
3211  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [ BOXING POLL ADDED ]: Fury vs Wilder III - THE TRILOGY IS BACK ON !!! on: June 19, 2021, 10:39:02 AM
Have you seen their stare down after the conference? 5 min of silence with few words from Fury. Why Wilder was in his beats all the time? For me, it looks like Wilder is mentally broken and simply wanted to thwart Fury - AJ fight.
I'm not sure I agree. I think as fans we like to look into things into too much depth sometimes. Wilder probably just wanted to make a statement, that he hasn't got time for the mind games, and just wants to get to business. Unfortunately, that message wasn't received, and now people think he isn't ready or mentally broken as you described. I'll be honest, I'm team Fury in this just because it leads up to one of the biggest fights for a while. Fury VS AJ. However, I think Wilder will be just as ready as he was for the first two fights. The man might not be a brilliant boxer, but he has one hell of a punch which can put anyone out. The first fight, despite me thinking Fury won, it was close (not on points in my opinion) but was close due to the fact that Fury nearly missed the count. It was a big punch, that if he can land again will likely put Fury on his arse once again.

Although, having said that Wilder doesn't seem to know how to fight a pressure boxer, and unless he's learned that in the past year or so I see the fight going a similar way to the second.
3212  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: June 16, 2021, 11:10:00 PM
I disagree that Conor isn't good at Lightweight. Conor was, and still is one of the best fighters we've seen in the UFC. Despite him not actually winning a fight for 2/3 years. He's still an exciting fighter. I do think Poirier might get the better of him again, but we have to admit that Conor actually was doing quite well against Poirer until he got backed up on that octagon. I believe he even rocked Poirer at some point in the fight.

The thing is with Conor, he's a great striker, but he fights risky. His hands are quite low, and I think what we have been seeing is, he doesn't get away with as much as he would in the lower divisions. There's generally harder hitters the heavier the division, and that's basically how Poirer put him away.
3213  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Would you bet on climbing challenges on: June 16, 2021, 11:05:43 PM
You may say that it's not the type of sports you are expecting but the fact that they used pure skills plus a death defying act specially on a real mountain/outdoor that's is enough to tell who's willing to win the challenge. I don't think this type of sports doesn't have a statistics record for both old and new challenger. Each type of sports have their own data of collecting those who are worth it to bet their money. But I've never tried to bet this game once but if there is I might have to.
Generally walls are graded. So, although you might not have the same climber on the same wall, they will have a grade. This does actually introduce statistical analysis, but it also introduces a element of luck based on the fact that climber x, and climber y haven't actually attempted the same wall, but have got times on the same grade level.

Although, this would only be true for competition type events, since a lot of climbing is self done, and there's no judge so it might not be entirely accurate. Therefore, only records held on competition walls could be considered.
3214  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ⚽UEFA EURO 2020 Discussion Thread | Current Phase: Finals in June 2021! on: June 16, 2021, 11:00:48 PM
Had wales to win by 1-0, so to see the second goal go in was a lot of mixed feelings. Although, I am proud of how the boys performed today. If I've learned anything from watching Wales in sport, you should never underestimate us, despite being a small country, and considered to be on the lower end of the scale in football. We are just one of those frustrating teams to play against. I must say though, Turkey were not awful. The game was actually pretty exciting from what I did catch.

I've got Ukraine, Belgium, Netherlands, draw between sweden, and Solvakia, and England, Scotland to draw in the next few days. Bit of a stretch for the England game, but I think Scotland might just frustrate them like we did with Turkey.
3215  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Would you bet on climbing challenges on: June 16, 2021, 10:50:34 PM
I love climbing. Both doing it, and watching others achieve new routes. So, if there was an option to bet on it, I'm sure I would. Although, I'm much more interested in setting new records, rather than competitive side by side, climbing. I'd like to see some betting on new records on climbs in the Yosemite, although I understand that your referring to the more, competitive indoor climbing than outdoor.

I believe climbing was to be included in the Olympics before Covid postponed it, right?

Even if there is a bookie that offers climbing bet I don't think I can bet on that type of sport betting, personally I prefers any sport that has statistical analysis and base my bet on past records,  eg soccer, basketball, lawn tennis etc as such climbing sport doesn't fit into these criteria, in this type of betting wining will be based on pure luck just like dice betting thus there is the tendency of losing many bets although the sport will be of interest to other people but betting on it will be very risky.
There's definitely statistical analysis to be had in the world of climbing. For example, how they deal with a overhang, how x performed against y on grade x climbs. Climbing isn't about luck, in fact much of the luck element is removed. So, what your saying is you prefer sports with more luck based elements. Since, climbing tries to remove luck as much as possible, otherwise you fall. This is especially true when free soloing or outdoor climbing as there's a greater risk of injury. Even when roped up, outdoor climbing has more risk of smashing yourself against the face generally.

If you've ever seriously climbed, you'll find yourself mapping out the route, spotting, and figuring out the least luck dependent route possible. Although, there are luck based elements in there. For example, sometimes you have to make a jump to continue, and depending on the circumstances that could well include a lot of luck.
3216  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: [Information] Online Job Websites about Crypto and that pays in Crypto on: June 15, 2021, 05:38:45 PM
I believe I've seen quite a few Bitcoin related jobs via Angellist. Although, it does seem to focus on the investing side of things, there's also a few jobs advertised there from time to time. These are predominately start ups, due to the nature of the website, but might be worth checking out if anyone was looking for jobs paying in Bitcoin.

Would have to check the job listing though, since not all Bitcoin related jobs are paying in Bitcoin.
3217  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: [Newbies]Learning will not make you spam[for newbies] on: June 15, 2021, 05:34:43 PM
I don't think that learning about Bitcoin, and posting spam is directly linked. Someone might be one of the most knowledgeable people inside Bitcoin, but they can still post replies which have little substance. I think this is demonstrated fairly routine here. What causes spam isn't necessarily a lack of knowledge, its the lack of effort i.e if you don't put the time investment, and thought that is required to make a good post, then its likely to be spam.

Plus, I think advertising that knowledge == good quality, is completely inaccurate, and is actually quite hostile to new users. New users who aren't particularly knowledgeable about Bitcoin are more than capable of asking questions, and posting good quality posts. This is also actually demonstrated here on this forum, somewhat regular. Also, I think a lot of users get it mixed up, repetitive questions do happen, and sometimes a user just needs to wrap their head around a concept in their own words, which despite being a question which is regularly asked here, doesn't mean its spam. I'd like to see us being a little less hostile to new users asking questions, even if they are easy to find. I mean, they are new users, and aren't always up to date on using forum software. They might be using the search function, but not good enough to find what they are looking for, and that's okay if it isn't clearly a lack of effort.
3218  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: June 15, 2021, 05:27:08 PM
So what is next for Israel Adesanya? many are asking this question on what is next for Adesanya and as you have said there are no one left in the division unless their Wrestling is like the level of Khabib Nurmagomenodov, then they will put Adesanya on the tight spot, well number 1 contender for Adesanya will be Robert Whittaker for a rematch I really think Whittaker had secure himself for a rematch against Israel Adesanya, next is if who's going to win against Daren Till VS Derek Brunson and if it is Brunson I think just like Vettori Brunson relied on his wrestling he will just see if who's going to put more pressure on Israel Adesanya.
I'd assume Robert Whittaker would be next for Adesanya. Although, he has beat him in the past, Whitaker in my opinion is very capable of beating Adesanya on his day. Although, the thing with Whittaker is his strengths are Adesanya's strengths. So, because of the stylistic match up, Robert Whitaker last time ended up getting pretty beat up. I'm not sure if he's improved enough, and I know a lot of people are criticizing Adesanya for not knocking out Vettori, but that's because Vettori's style actually protects him from much of the weapons of Adesanya. I expect the Whittaker, and Adensanya rematch to show a lot more threat from both sides, with it ultimately ending in a KO. I still favour Adensanya, but Whittaker is probably one of three fighters in the division that I actually think can trouble Adesanya.
3219  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Does implementing a tax on a gambling platform really help a country? on: June 15, 2021, 05:23:19 PM
1. There is zero enforceability when it comes to gambling taxes. Most of the gaming platforms that are commonly used are currently unregulated by any responsible board - and most of them aren't even in the jurisdiction of any single country.
Depending on your country of residence, you might be required to actually declare your taxes on gambling earnings. Although, most countries that I know of have zero tax on gambling earnings. However, I think this would depend on whether the place that you gambled at is registered, and actually recognized as a gambling website. Since, most crypto gambling sites appear to not be licensed, this would actually mean your earnings are taxable in most countries.

For example, to operate a gambling website in the UK or even offer to UK residents you need to be registered, and accepted by the gambling commission. If you aren't, then I believe your customers would have to declare the earnings to the tax man, and the tax man would then decide whether or not its taxable. I'm not super up to date with the laws when it comes to gambling taxes when a gambling outlet isn't licensed, but I'm pretty sure it would be deemed taxable income since its not recognized as a gambling outlet officially.
3220  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: What kind of gambler are you? The numbers guy or let luck lead the way.. on: June 15, 2021, 05:17:46 PM
I have a friend who is a team x hardcore fans and his prediction of that particular team is way better than average.
Too many factors to consider in general, but I would like to think that most fans know their team better than the overall league. However, watching every single team, is beyond achievable, as often matches clash, unless you want to dedicate your life to watching it all. Depending on the sport, that could be several hours per game.

For football/soccer I imagine a lot of people base it on the highlights of each team, with pundits pitching in. The perfect show for this in the UK, would be MOTD (Match of the day) since MOTD has highlights, as well as various pundits weighing in on their opinion of each team on that day.

However, it all depends on the team your friend supports. If they are a particularly good team in the league then statistically they are more likely to win more games, and since your friend supports the team I'd wager that he would be predicting for them to win more often than not.
