2681  Other / Meta / Re: Hai mate, i need some advice regarding reporting spammers to moderators on: October 26, 2021, 07:37:10 PM
Right, I thought you were worried that they were left unhandled. Though, I think TheBeardedBaby answered your question about whether to report all the posts or just one, and hint at it in the report field, and I'll kind of echo their point there; Report user posts only once, or potentially a couple of times, but include in the report field that they're spamming on mass. This usually means the moderator will take a look at their post history.

Though, if there's a user running on mass, and the message in the report field doesn't seem to help, then you can contact a moderator directly. It shouldn't matter what moderator you contact, since they can escalate it if only global moderators can take action.

Honestly, in the Altcoin section you could probably report over a thousand posts a day, and the Altcoin Discussion seems to be the place where signature spammers go to pad their post counts. I do go there, and report some from time to time, though it would be nice to take on a more hands on approach there.
2682  Other / Meta / Re: Hai mate, i need some advice regarding reporting spammers to moderators on: October 26, 2021, 03:11:28 PM
Generally, reports made in sections which are only covered by global moderators will take a little longer, simply because there's less eyes on it, and global moderators are receiving a much larger number of reports than a dedicated moderator, therefore expect a little delay. They should eventually be handled, some may slip through, but generally I would say that most reports are at least reviewed once by staff.

However, there might be a legitimate reason why some reports are left unhandled, and it's not always because it hasn't been reviewed. I've been looking to edit my Reporting Effectively thread about unhandled reports, but haven't got around to it yet.
2683  Other / Meta / Re: Reports Bad&Unhandled on: October 26, 2021, 02:39:54 PM
Can't really speculate too much why it was handled bad without knowing the exact context. Though, it was likely accidental or the reason you specified in the report field, the mod might disagree with, however ultimately decided to remove it for another reason. Generally though, I tend to mark these good, unless they're completely off the mark. This will always differ from moderator to moderator, because some users will want to know exactly when they've included a bad report message, and not just reporting a post that should be removed, therefore a moderator could prioritise the message, instead of the actual report if that makes sense.

For example, if you reported a post for plagiarism, and included "plagiarism" in the report field, upon reviewing it if the moderator disagrees that's plagiarism, they may mark it bad, even if they think it should be removed for another reason e.g low quality.

Do you know that from experience or do you just assume it should be like that? Inaccurate information that stimulates a completely illogical and unnecessary discussion is definitely something I report, but always with evidence that confirms it.
There's no one answer for this, because it absolutely depends on the context. For example, if the post is clearly trolling, then that could be a reason for removable, however simply spreading misinformation isn't exactly a reason for removal, depending on the context. Since, the forum generally likes to keep freedom of speech. Though, absolutely the community are free to outline why a user is wrong, and let others know that they're spreading misinformation.

Therefore, often you'll find that the action taken on these types of reports will be highly dependent on the moderator who is handling it, and could potentially differ widely between moderators. This is also some of the examples I believe in setting guidelines, and not strict rule sets, since the a lot of the time they can overlap each other.
2684  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🥊 The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: October 26, 2021, 02:11:18 PM
Well, Vettori gained a fan last weekend from me. I've always been quite the critic when it comes to his style, and while he definitely has finished a lot of fighters, I've always thought he could be more active when he takes people down onto the mat. Well, against Costa he proved he actually has some decent striking ability. I thought he was outstriking Costa much of the fight, and the only reason Costa was still in it was because of the impact from his shots, rather than the volume.

There was one point in the fight quite late on where I thought Costa had Vettori on the ropes. It was from a couple of body shots which seemed to hurt him quite a bit, but he recovered nicely. I'm not sure what's next for either fighters, it seems Vettori might have hit a plateau, as I don't think he's going to be beating Izzy anytime soon, but he probably clears up the rest of the up, and coming contenders.

Costa, again I'm not sure where to put him. He'll always have a chance in a fight due to his heavy hands, but his striking ability as a whole probably has to be questioned. I'm not sure what's next for him to be honest.
2685  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🥊 The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: October 23, 2021, 03:51:36 PM
I heard about Costa walking around saying that he was weighing over 200 lbs.  But I didn’t think much about it and thought he was prolly just fooling around.  Lol.  Turned out to be true.  -_-

And I think it changes everything now and the match could favor Costa with him being able to have a higher chance of knocking Vettori out early.  The under 4.5 went from 1.75 to 1.60...  That Costa win at R3 prop lined at 16 looks good.  That’s prolly worth a sprinkle.

UFC Vegas FN 196:  Weigh In Results

Paulo Costa (204.5) vs. Marvin Vettori (204)
Grant Dawson (156) vs. Ricky Glenn (155.5)
Jessica-Rose Clark (135.5) vs. Joselyne Edwards (134.5)
Alex Caceres (146) vs. Seungwoo Choi (145.5)
Dwight Grant (170) vs. Francisco Trinaldo (169.5)
Nicolae Negumereanu (204.5) vs. Ike Villanueva (205)
Jun Yong Park (185.5) vs. Gregory Rodrigues (185.5)
Mason Jones (156) vs. David Onama (153.5)
Maria Oliveira (115) vs. Tabatha Ricci (115)
Jamie Pickett (184.5) vs. Laureano Staropoli (185.5)
Jai Herbert (155) vs. Khama Worthy (155)
Daniel da Silva (125) vs. Jeff Molina (125)
Randa Markos (115) vs. Livinha Souza (115)
Zviad Lazishvili (135) vs. Jonathan Martinez (135)
I'm worried about Costa, I'm not sure his heart is in it anymore, I mean coming in that heavy is a bit of a joke, and I've got to give my respect to Vettori for allowing the fight to continue, and if Vettori can win against a over weight Costa it really is a statement to the rest of the division, unless what I fear is true, and that Costa has simply become uninterested after the Izzy fight.

Didn't Costa make up an excuse like he was drinking wine the night before? I highly doubt someone with the body he has, whether you want to excuse him of steroid abuse or not, would be so ill disciplined, because clearly he puts in a lot of work.

I've always been favouring Costa for a knockout tonight, but this makes me reconsider whether he's actually interested, and determined to win.
2686  Other / Meta / Re: Cloudflare excuse me for my impatience on: October 21, 2021, 05:50:52 PM
Then after finishing my writing when I wanted to make a post Cloudflare hanged me up for over ten minutes. The 5 seconds were never ending over ten minutes.

I just checked (by clicking "All" on a long topic in Tor browser), and I confirm it shows this forever:

This sounds to me like an issue with the addon which is included by default with Tor Browser called NoScript Security Suite. Cloudflare requires scripts enabled for that to work function to work, lowering your security level inside of Tor Browser would potentially solve the problem. Though, whether your happy to do that depends on the security threat model, which will differ from user to user.

If you use NoScript Security Suite on a browser such as firefox without a Tor connection, it'll clearly tell you that you need to enable Javascript to proceed, though for whatever reason when a Tor connection, and the addon is combined, it tries to redirect without showing that page.
2687  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🥊 The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: October 21, 2021, 05:42:27 PM
Joselyne Edwards at 2.22, I feel like Edwards is better than Clark in the striking dept.  She’s also taller and has the reach advantage.

Mind you, these are just first impressions of underdogs that ‘could win’.
Joselyne Edwards is one of my most confident picks within the >2.00 odds. I think she'll do a great job here, and has looked very good in her previous fights. Also looking forward to the Mason Jones fight, though I'll hold off realistic predictions, because I might be a little bias in selecting him for the win. Though, I do think he has a great chance here.
2688  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🥊 The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: October 19, 2021, 09:38:31 PM
Finally a fight worth watching.

Do you guy think that Costa will use his bjj skills against striker Vettori? Not in vain did Costa throw a belt in Adesanya Smiley
This is actually strange, Costa is black belt in BJJ, but 11 out of 13 wins are by KO. Vettori is brown belt only. But I think these two will spend all the time landing strikes. I cant even predict who will win. Costa is huge, but likes to drink wine before fight Cheesy Vettori I see as a very loaded fighter and will for a KO, completely forgetting about game plan and not listening what his corner says.
I don't recommend basing any predictions on the colour of belt they have achieved. There's no standard to belts, and therefore there's a wide range of different abilities that have achieved the higher belts. This is why belts awarded by the more famous instructors are more respected. Even then, I wouldn't recommend basing that on your predictions.

I basically only judge a fighter on what they've shown, and for Costa we haven't see an awful lot of BJJ, and therefore I'm not going to factor that in, except I don't think Vettori is going to find it as easier to get him to the ground, and be able to submit him easily. I see this fight staying on the feet, which you have to favour Costa then surely. Costa has shown decent takedown defense when needed, and we know he at least knows BJJ, however his level is yet to be determined in the public eye, at least in the UFC.
2689  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🥊 The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: October 18, 2021, 08:51:00 PM
I'll probably be routing for Paulo Costa, since I think he'll have the most interesting of fights in the future. Vettori, has become a little stale of late, and I don't normally critic on a wrestling base, but I just find he uses it, gets a decent position, and then doesn't really do an awful lot with it recently. Whereas, Costa despite losing to Izzy looked very good before that, and looked like a real problem for the division, and naturally he's in most exciting fights due to his striking.

I think we might see Paulo dominate for a little while, and get another shot at the title again. I think Whitaker, and Izzy will bash it out again, and I genuinely feel that Whitaker is the most probable to dethrone Adesanya.

Too early to start talking about the Sugar Show's upcoming fight?  I'm a fan of his knockouts and not sure he's got the overall fighting skills for a real long run in the UFC, but I'm having fun watching him win while it's going.  What do the real UFC fans think?  Does he have what it takes to win this next fight?  Seems like it was a bit of a setup for him to get a win to me, but I'm not all that familiar with the fighter.  It would be great (although unlikely) to see the Sugar Show and Paddy the Baddy go at it someday.  I hope they can both keep winning.
He'll likely never be a champion in my eyes, however he'll definitely be one of the main talked about fighters, just because of his style, and personality. Though, he's probably expected to win the next fight, I wouldn't say he's been fed a easy opponent per say. The last fight you could have definitely made that point with Kris Moutinho, however that turned into a better fighter than most was expecting, at least by the determination of Kris.

I don't know what to make of Sean yet, he's an exciting striker, but we really haven't got to see him tested on the ground. In a pure stand up fight, I'd put money on him all day. Although, I'm still not convinced he's ready for a gunfight, if Kris Moutinho actually was landing back at a decent rate I think he wouldn't have liked it.

He has been somewhat spoon fed so far in my opinion, and I just want to see him in a real tough fight where it's actually competitive, then I'll make my decision on him. At the moment, I feel the hype behind him is talking more than his actual skills. No doubt, one of the better strikers in the game, but his overall skills haven't been tested.

Has anyone noticed though, that weight misses were much more prominent during the highs of Covid? I haven't looked at the statistics to verify that, but I'm pretty sure that we are getting less than we were a few months ago. I'm wondering whether unreported Covid19 cases during camps contributed to it.

I'm also going for Aspen Ladd for those odds. I'm not sure why they are priced to highly? I wasn't expecting shorter odds in this fight.
2692  Other / Meta / Re: Spam wave attack on the Spanish Forum – Hardware y Minería (and others) on: October 15, 2021, 03:02:01 PM
I've added the goodhash stuff to MindlessElectron, which will deal with them if they are a newbie. If you see any other spam waves, feel free to PM/ping me. Smiley
Ah, see I wasn't sure if this was public knowledge, and that's why I was alluding to it rather than outright saying it. I thought I remember a discussion about MindlessElectron before, but wasn't sure if it was in Meta or not, and didn't have the time to check.

Good, I can go back to my tea now.

Which is the best procedure to deal with it?
So, to expand on this now pretty much did the right thing, but if you don't get any luck with that you can always send a personal message to Mitchell, and when they get on they'll add it to MindlessElectron bot.
2693  Other / Meta / Re: India Mining Board Receiving Massive Spam Attack on: October 15, 2021, 02:56:58 PM
It's in relation with this thread: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5365850.0

You can read my reply there, but the update is that it has been dealt with, and hopefully shouldn't be a problem anymore. Although, if you do find some posts left over then report them so we can clean up, as they came thick, and fast we probably missed a couple.

I don't know how to defend the forum effectively from this type of attack, spammers seem to have found a weak point, and now they are massively exploiting it.
Not really, all forums are suspect to this sort of spam. I think it was dealt with quite quickly, and efficiently. They had minimal exposure, and there are things in place to protect against this sort of thing, but until you know what your up against, you can't counteract it. So, these sort of spam attacks are always worse when they've just began.
2694  Other / Meta / Re: Spam wave attack on the Spanish Forum – Hardware y Minería (and others) on: October 15, 2021, 02:24:31 PM
Seemed to have curbed it for now. They have likely run out of accounts for the time being, or potentially nuking their account before posting broke their script. Whatever the cause of the current slow down, I'll contact the appropriate users on getting this automatically flagged/moderated. However, meanwhile continue reporting them, I don't expect you to report every single one, but just report one in each section that it's happening, and put in the report message field that this is widespread, and not only that post you reported.

I'll then sit down, and battle these until they stop. I'll be keeping an eye out anyway for them. Indian section, Spanish section, and the Altcoin section were attacked, most of them should have been nuked. If I've missed any or they continue while not being dealt with report them for me, and other staff so we can handle it in a timely manner.

Update: I'm already aware of the everswap spam attack, which seems why we had a temporary lull for a little bit, probably swapped scripts or tinkered with it.

Update 2: Sorted all that I can see on patrol, reports, cleaned up Spanish, and Indian sections, as well as Tokens, and Altcoin announcements. Seems to be all quiet on these fronts now. I've also contacted the appropriate users to see if we can get these automatically identified in the future.

The return of the spam bots that the forum fought a year ago. New wave. Only this time, someone decided to spam with links to cloud mining. So far, everything is calm in the Russian section, but it can also get there. Based on the registrations, the attack was planned in advance. Hopefully the moderators will react quickly, or we will again get fake activity statistics for this month in future reports.
Ah we get loads. I've been fighting the same bots for months now, I've probably nuked well over thousand accounts, they're obviously linked, but they keep adapting to avoid any sort of automated detection. Plus, I know other staff have been fighting this particular one so likely they've had thousands upon thousands of accounts.

Which is the best procedure to deal with it?
Basically did the right thing. Report a couple, then if it does seem widespread, make a post here.
2695  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Privacy while making use of Bitcoin on: October 15, 2021, 01:40:36 PM
When o_e_l_e_o says nearly impossible, they aren't exaggerating that fact either. To remain anonymous, and keep your privacy you need to be absolutely perfect in everything you do, and this usually means not using any third party whatsoever. Basically, if you want privacy you have to go the long way around on everything, which makes it less convenient. This is why so many people are willing to give up their privacy, because it isn't convenient to keep it. Now, I'm not saying that you shouldn't strive to keep your privacy intact, quite the opposite actually. However, there are different levels to privacy. There's complete anonymity, which is on the extreme side of things, and then there's only allowing certain users or companies have identifying things about you, that however should be avoided whenever possible as long as it's legal to do so, because you don't know how these companies are storing your data, which could be insecurely or you don't actually know who they are sharing your data with willingly.

Even when you run your own node over Tor it isn't perfect. There's always the risk that the person who's running that end node, can compromise your privacy. This largely depends on what information you're sharing to them in the first place, and if you are routing any other traffic through Tor. If your just running your node through Tor, then that's actually pretty decent level of protection.

I think the change addresses are usually the culprit in giving up someone's identity simply because they overlook it, then they accidentally link addresses together. To avoid this you need to be consciously aware of the change addresses, and make transactions accordingly.

Privacy is often associated with cost and knowledge. Without detailed and accurate knowledge, any error may lead to revealing your identity, but you can determine how difficult it is to track your identity.
The average user, with a few courses and costs, can learn how to hide his identity from the platforms, but you will need more to hide from governments and from a government that has resources to track you or wants to track you.
When your trying to keep your privacy from the government, then this is when that nearly impossible statement seriously comes into play. You're basically up against a government that has pretty much unlimited funding in this department. Edward Snowden proved that they will go to great lengths to spy on it's own people, as well as other nations. This included tapping in physical connections, and compromising several big phone companies, which are still operating today. Basically, you keep your privacy intact against the government is going to require you to be absolutely perfect in everything that you do, and I'll be honest most people won't be able to do it.  For example, Tor is recommended, but it has been known that law enforcement have ran Tor exit nodes, and monitored the traffic going through it. This has been quite well documented in big cases around the world. It's by no means a perfect solution.
2696  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🥊 The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: October 15, 2021, 01:30:58 PM
Jon Jones got temporarily banned from his gym JacksonWin as per Mike Winkeljohn until he gets his shit together. This just seems so ungenuine coming from a guy that supposedly hid Jon Jones beneath the ring in their training facility when USADA came 10 years ago XD JaksonWink seems to just be doing this to satisfy the superficial critics. I don't think they care what Jones did, it looks like they were just forced to do this by the public. Standard cringe move by that camp.
People also change throughout their lives, so he may just have changed his views, which you have to respect. Though, of course this might mean there's no incentive for him to hide these types of things anymore, which isn't as respectable. On the surface of it though it appears he has does the right thing. Though, it's likely a PR move rather than anything else, but even so when you have one of the best fighters that have entered the UFC, and potentially wanting a return, it takes guts to actually suspend them, because that could effect their chance of earning some money from it.
2697  Other / Meta / Re: Is it needed a History & Education board? on: October 14, 2021, 11:08:14 PM
I guess a sticky thread would likely be the best option for this rather than a dedicated section, although I think partly this may have been theymos' intention with implementing the merit statistics. For example: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=merit;stats=toptopicsat could be seen as a historical archive, as most of the threads that I would consider monumental or having a big part of the history are on that page. Although, I get what you mean a dedicated area for posts of historical value would be nice, though as I mentioned briefly a stickied thread which lists all of these threads would probably be the better choice.

You know, something like shorena's thread, but more focused on historical posts rather than a mix, match of various other things could potentially be stickied.
2698  Other / Meta / Re: Actions against spam translators on: October 14, 2021, 05:31:35 PM
Great answer to OP's question.  I have a question for you, though I understand if you won't or can't answer it: Is what you wrote above advice given to you by Theymos, or is your reluctance to delete posts or to be a strict moderator in the Spanish section a personal choice?  Theymos rarely gives his thoughts on forum moderation to the community, so I'm just wondering.
I don't think there's any issues answering it. I do tend to try, and keep things that were sensitive discussed privately, well private. However, most of what has been said is generic, and vague rather than anything sensitive. Also, I like to keep the community in the loop somewhat, so I like to engage in these types of conversations.

To answer your question, I've adapted myself to the role rather than having input from theymos on that particular issue, although I have been given advice by theymos in the past, however that was in general moderating rather than local section specific. I think I've touched upon it before, theymos tends to give you a nudge in the right direction, when required.

Welsh, I'm sure you're doing a good job moderating the Spanish section, but it'd be nice if Theymos did appoint a native speaker as a mod.  It's hard for me to imagine that there aren't any good candidates around who'd be willing to take the position.
Ah no, I totally agree with this. This is why I somewhat indicated that theymos is on the same page, because I believe I remember saying that a local moderator that is a native speaker is always best, and he agreed. Plus, I mentioned of the importance of a local moderator being involved in the local community, I do believe that's also important, as I touched upon local sections being rather tightly knitted compared to the rest of the forum.

I know theymos can catch a lot of stick for being rather hands off, but definitely does a lot of work behind the scenes, and that's why I thought reassuring that he at least acknowledged the issue was important. I definitely wasn't the first choice, and I'm not the solution to the problem. See me as a piece of duct tape stuck on a leaking hole, it certainly isn't perfect, but it's slowing down the issues while we seek alternatives. How long that will take, I couldn't say.
2699  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Advice: 1 BTC on: October 14, 2021, 12:03:45 AM
It probably isn't all that wise to seek investment advice off those that are going to be biased to Bitcoin. Basically, as you can see most of us will suggest that you keep it in Bitcoin, after all Bitcoin has shown throughout its short history that it has kept going up, and hitting new highs.

Although, I'll recommend something different; if you are seeking financial advice then seek a professional, and not someone on this forum. Though, I think largely these types of professionals are blagging it, so choosing one might be difficult.

So, do your own research. Look at what could effect Bitcoin in the short term, what could effect it in the long term, and decide whether it would be best to keep that 1 Bitcoin, and let it potentially appreciate in value, or use it to invest in something else. No one can tell you what to invest it in, since it's your money. However, even if you wanted to invest it into something else, you could probably only invest it into something which has the potential to give you less money over time.

At the moment, Bitcoin is a exciting technology, and with that comes a certain hype, plus because a few of us actually think it's revolutionary it has the small chance of becoming a mainstream currency. If that were to happen it's likely that Bitcoin would see a exponential value increase. Also, Bitcoin has probably been the most profitable investment in the last ten years, and it hasn't shown any indications of it slowing down. Though, that's not to say that it won't slow down or even completely stop being profitable.

Okay, so I've given you conflicting views there, but my opinion is; there are certain things that Bitcoin has to overcome for it to become a mainstream currency, I use the phrase "small chance" because I believe currently there is a small chance because it has certain problems it needs to overcome. Once of the major ones I think is; complexity for the general public, which has improved significantly since its creation, but it still has a long way to go before mass adoption. Luckily, even if it wasn't to become a mainstream currency, there is still indications that it'll be profitable. Basically, Bitcoin allows you to manage your own money, therefore you control it. In the modern world, this is rare, most people need to use banks, because that's how they get paid, and that's what their loan companies or landlords require. Therefore, they are almost forced into using a third party to manage their money. On top of this; you are then introducing inflation, because there is no cap on the amount the government can inject into circulation. Bitcoin on the other hand is somewhat deflationary by design, therefore the longer it is in use, and popular the more likely it's to appreciate in value. This is what we've seen consistency over the years, and if you were to compare Bitcoin to any other investment, I would bet you'd come to the conclusion that Bitcoin would have been the investment with the highest return.

Despite this, there's no guarantees in life, and ultimately it's down to you, and your personal judgement on what, and how to handle your money. However, this is something that is ingrained into every person who uses Bitcoin, since it's the only currency which realistically allows you to do so.
2700  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Does Electrum have insurance against fraud?? on: October 13, 2021, 11:46:54 PM
Electrum isn't the problem here, as mentioned by others. Basically, as soon as you send money out of a non custodial wallet, which Electrum is; you can't revert that transaction, and therefore there's no way of charging back like you could with a bank transfer or transaction using Paypal.

Ok thanks. Is there any company out there that is reputable and can trace the money to find the individual responsible?  is there anyway to get my bitcoin back?
Not one that I can actually endorse out of personal use, however there's plenty of detectives on this forum, which I bet would help if you could reveal all the details. Probably best to open a thread in scam accusations/investigations, and see if anyone can lend a hand. Though, do understand the possibility of getting those that scammed you is slim, especially if they know how to hide their identity, and have done it well.

Though, history has shown that scammers usually aren't the best at that, usually slip up somewhere, so there might be some hope. Collect all the information you can, and then present that evidence to the police. Probably, would need to be the police that has jurisdiction over those that scammed though.
