2281  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Africa Football Discussion Thread || Current discussion: AFCON Round of 16. on: January 26, 2022, 10:51:59 PM
Well I didn't watch the senagal match so I had no idea and can't contribution much about the mane situation but probably since he was the best player in their team maybe that's why they refused to sub him and he did score which helped them alot.
Yeah, I understand that he's likely their best player. However, player welfare should come first. I know a lot of people might be aware I'm a Liverpool fan, and therefore could have some bias, but not really. I would like to see him taken off if he was in a Liverpool shirt or any shirt for that matter. We shouldn't be jeopardising player health simply because they are the teams best player. I don't want to be too dramatic here, but this is how people die or get life changing injuries. Thankfully, the reports are he's fine. Though, they've already cleared him for the next game, when concussion can actually take several days to show symptoms, which just seems like negligence to me.

The situation about the red card is very worrisome. There wasn't much in the group stages but this round of 16 has been something else. Most times I feel the advice from the coaches to the players were to get the legs if they missed the ball because it seems like that's what everyone is doing.

Hopefully this get address soon and other stages we get more professional football were we have less cards.
Hopefully, it gets addressed before there's any serious injuries from it. I don't actually think the Mane incident was dangerous play, just unlucky. It was how they handled it afterward I had a problem with. I've also seen some crazy officiating, overall the whole competition has been mind boggling at times how things have been allowed to play out.
2282  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🥊 The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: January 26, 2022, 10:21:34 PM
This goes back more than 5 years.

Will the current campaign on UFC fighter pay be any more successful than past attempts?

Somehow I don't think it will. Those who of us who have been around for awhile know why.
The difference for me is the whole world is hearing about it now. You're quite right that this has been going on a long time, since fighters pay was probably even less than it's today. However, fighters are starting to be heard outside of the UFC, and people are taking notice. If that hurts the brand, then Dana will have no choice, but to change the way he pays fighters. Has others have rightly pointed out, he probably can't change it drastically for all the fighters on the roster, but I imagine he will have to up the wages for the more influential fighters, and definitely for the champions, and contenders.
2283  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Africa Football Discussion Thread || Current discussion: AFCON Round of 16. on: January 26, 2022, 10:20:25 AM
Ridiculous safety precautions at AFCON. I know there's been accusations of people not giving AFCON the respect it deserves, but it does make it hard when the officiating as been as bad as it has, and the general treatment of injured players. I'm mainly talking about the Mane incident recently, where he was clearly knocked non conscious, and there didn't seem to be any consideration about removing him from the game. He goes on to score a few minutes later which is a little crazy in itself, but then lies down himself clearly says he can't continue, and the medical staff seem to be up in his face, preventing him from walking off.

I'm just used to strict concussion rules with rugby, but also we've seen this in English football too. If someone has lost consciousness, then a concussion is pretty much a foregone conclusion, and therefore they should be taken off. At the very least, a player should be assessed. An assessment doesn't take a few seconds, it would take a couple of minutes, and you generally have to run several tests, and observe rather than listen to what the player patient is telling you.

Also, what's with the amount of red cards in this competition?
2284  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🥊 The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: January 26, 2022, 10:15:51 AM
Drama with Francis Ngannou and UFC continues and it seems like UFC threatened to sue him for talking about potential fight outside MMA in boxing.
Ngannou publicly said again that he is not happy with the way how UFC treated him, and I wouldn't be surprised if he lives them when his contract expires.
He fought out his contract after defeating Gane and now he has championship clause on the contract extended for three more fights.
Let's see what happens but I think his managers should start talking with other organizations now.
Maybe Dana is preparing for Jon Jones return.

Ridiculous. That's a way to burn a bridge with one of the best heavyweights we've seen in recent years. A potential money maker in Ngannou vs Jones if Jones would get off Twitter, and actually fight. Just seems like Dana is going about this the completely wrong way, and it'll end up with him losing the current champion, and other fighters will start piping up about their situation.

I love the UFC as a competition, but I just hate how they run it from time to time. I see that Jake Paul is still trying to push Dana to pay the fighters more, and while I'm not his biggest fan, I've got to respect the amount of effort he's at least seeming to put in.

This thread: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5379058.0 has been trashed/removed. So, I'm assuming it has been handled, but your report has remained unhandled for whatever reason. Wasn't me that handled it, I don't recall seeing it in my report queue either. So, not sure of the specifics of why your report has remained unhandled. Usually, when threads are removed, they're automatically handled. Though, I think I do recall in certain situations reports don't get handled for whatever reason, but disappear from the queue. I thought this was when moving it to the trash can, which we generally only do in specific situations.
2286  Economy / Reputation / Re: [LIST] ANN threads that are using bumping services on: January 25, 2022, 10:21:33 PM
Will do! Can you please check the case that I mentioned in one of my previous posts, where project advertised giving tokens in exchange for comments, but they did it via thier telegram group. Isn't that breaking forum rules as well?
PDX? I thought the bounty thread was moved to the trashcan or are you talking about another one I've missed?

Great to hear that is possible! Back in October 2020 I started thread in Meta asking exactly that
I don't usually, I generally try to give the benefit of the doubt, but this one in particular was so painfully obviously using a bumping service, and the fact that it was a locked thread, and pretty much no one else showed an interest the entire thread, apart from a few who happened upon it at some point, asked a question, and never returned. So, usually I don't completely remove threads unless I get proof of bumping, but since most of it was already gone, their social channels etc, I could only use my common sense, and it was just one of the worse ones out there.

I have seen global moderators take a similar approach now, and again. Probably for the more extreme examples. I wouldn't expect it every time though, as I usually like to take the cautious route, and go through it all one by one. However, this was just an exceptional case, and the users which were contributing to the spam were already banned, presumably because of the bumping.
2287  Economy / Reputation / Re: [LIST] ANN threads that are using bumping services on: January 25, 2022, 09:58:13 PM
What amazed me though was that this ANN thread was started by a member with reputation here, btcltcdigger. He is a Hero member and I really wonder why he allowed that spam inside his topic... What is even more interesting is that he never involved in his own thread. He just posted the ANN and that was all. Perhaps, if he sees this post, he may come with an explanation.
btcltcdigger was likely the announcement manager, and wasn't involved with the project itself. The amount of spam, and sockpuppets communicating there was ridiculous. I started to delete each post individually, however I quickly come to realise that pretty much no one else posted on the thread, but the same accounts that continued going back, and forth with mostly nonsense. I removed the thread completely. I suspect it was the people behind the project that hired a bumping service, and not necessarily the announcement manager. Though, that's largely an assumption rather than a matter of fact.

Anyway, most of the accounts that were going back, and forth were banned already, so a global moderator had already dealt with most of them.
2288  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🥊 The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: January 25, 2022, 07:18:28 PM
And Sean O'Malley is a good asset for the UFC who can promote fights really well. And Adesanya seems to be both a good fighter and a good fight promoter. maybe these people need to be pushed by the UFC.
I'd argue the opposite for Sean O'Malley, since to me he has a ceiling, and it definitely isn't in the top five. He's a good cash cow up until he gets found out against ranked opponents, and believe you me, he will be found out. I don't expect him to even challenge the top five, because Dana will want to protect him as much as possible. Same as Paddy who has made a great impact on fans, I think he clearly has a ceiling which probably isn't going to be anywhere near the top five.

Izzy is the exception here, one of the best fighters the UFC has seen, and he knows how to market. However, the real promoter was Conor who seems to be making a comeback sometime this year, which could be interesting if he takes it seriously, and gets that passion back that he seemed to have lost.
2289  Economy / Reputation / Re: [Discussion] Bitcointalk Community Awards 🏆 on: January 25, 2022, 06:38:47 PM
I absolutely would like to nominate EZ0010 for something, as it was pretty crazy at the time. The whole event really, proves that experienced users can make mistakes which we knew anyway, but new users especially seem to build up certain users as gods for a lack of a better term, and therefore can't make any mistakes. However, it didn't just show that, it showed even mistakes don't always spell disaster. I actually think, the fact that EZ0010 wasn't a massively established user, made it even more impressive. It would have been easily to disappear with that Bitcoin.

So, I would definitely like to give recognition for that, but it's fitting it into the current criteria I'm struggling with a little. Dare I say its one of the events of the year, which I'll term "When theymos lost the plot, and Ez0010 returned the lot". Obviously, tongue in cheek I including others have probably made sillier mistakes than that.

Btw, there is nothing wrong with leaving a couple of empty graphs, to me it just means that the person has a slightly narrower range of interests than others ... after all you have a month or so to edit your post.  Wink
Sweet, it just didn't feel right voting for a moderator even though I know this isn't a massively serious award ceremony. I just want to get my Annual invite to the Christmas party, and my Christmas cards, and therefore would avoid making enemies Cheesy.
2290  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: No regrets for the NYC Mayor receiving his first Bitcoin paycheck during the dip on: January 25, 2022, 03:17:53 PM
Even then, like everything about politicians, i doubt this is about anything else other than popularity. Time will tell for sure. Considering how popular Bitcoin has become amongst the young, I hope that the US legislation, whenever it comes up, leaves space for people to invest and remove these clouds of doubt and uncertainty.
Basically. Politicians have got to gain the support of the people, and how do they go about doing that? They either promise or implement things which appeal to a certain demographic, usually the demographic that doesn't support them, trying to persuade a new audience to begin supporting them. That's basically what this is all about. I would take this with a pinch of salt.

This was an intelligent reply, this guy is clearly not a dummy. Sure he is technically down some since he converted his US dollar denominated salary in to bitcoin, but he knows this is how markets work. They go up and down. Now Of course the hope is bitcoin will become more stable, but this will take time. I thought this was a wise response from the mayor.
I guess it depends on his goals, he could want the price to remain low while he collects a handsome amount of Bitcoin, and then trade that in when Bitcoin goes higher, effectively earning more than his base salary would allow him in fiat.
2291  Economy / Reputation / Re: [Discussion] Bitcointalk Community Awards 🏆 on: January 25, 2022, 02:51:01 PM
I don't want to influence people's votes too much, but I was wondering how many users would nominate EZ0010 for one of the awards, and then I saw @examplens got the first vote in. I'm not entirely sure they fit in the Absolute Hero of Good's description, but out of the ones its probably the most fitting. Might be fitting to the event of the year, because it was a rare mistake from theymos that led to the event, which had a happy ending. I'm just not entirely sure which category is the most fitting, what do you guys think?

On another note, I might get in on the voting this year, though can I leave out some categories?
2292  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Representing bitcointalk.org letters in crypto terms on: January 24, 2022, 11:10:14 PM
I think you're going the right way about looking to contribute, i.e educate others on technical terms, and try relating it to something that they use often. I just think your missing the mark a little by using the forum's url to do it.

But why so much effort? Why?
I initially thought this, but I took a step back, and viewed it from another point of view. You know how we teach children to abbreviate things, in hope they remember something. Well, not just children actually, adults also use this approach. For example, in the construction industry, and food industry they use various different ones, but the main one that sticks out to me is COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health) while its abbreviated different to how the OP did it, the point still makes it easier to understand. First Aid courses, as well as paramedic degrees also teach you via this system, so it does work.

Plus, I'm not too concerned about an attempt to help people learn about different concepts of Bitcoin through this method. Alright, probably a bit of a long shot, but we've got to come up with solutions on making Bitcoin a lot more accessible to those that aren't technically minded. This, while the execution might not be perfect with Bitcointalk as the example, I think could be applied to different things within Bitcoin to teach others.
2293  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Sportsbet.io's English Premier League Football Pool Discussion Thread on: January 24, 2022, 10:39:05 PM
I just knew Man City wasn't invincible, they've shown a number of times this season they're quite fragile, but they've just managed to pull it out of the bag. Well, they didn't this time, and they likely won't for the rest of the season. Obviously, Liverpool, and Chelsea at the minute aren't all that great at securing wins consistently, but when you look at the remaining fixtures, the time between big matches, I'm still quietly confident about Liverpool's chances this season.

Anyway, Norwich really surprised me, but Watford didn't. I thought it was going to be a bore draw, but Watford have looked pretty poor this season, and I did think they were suspectible to conceding against Norwich, like I said I somewhat expected Pukki could make the breakthrough happen, however to play, and concede as many as they did, against a out of form Norwich side pretty much puts the writing on the wall for me. Watford to get relegated.
2294  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🥊 The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: January 24, 2022, 10:35:13 PM
Dana just needs to compromise I would think. Ngannou probably wants bigger money, so instead of Dana giving him the money directly, allow him to have a few boxing fights. I'm not sure why the UFC puts it in the clause of the contract that they can't fight in other sports. It would probably be beneficial because you keep the fighters happy, and you also put UFC fighters in the limelight, and in front of a new audience.

For example, I was originally a boxing fan, never even considered watching the UFC because I fell for the appearance of it rather than actually what it is. I always thought, I don't want to watch people beat on each other to a inch of their life, but doesn't really sound like fun. I was the typical outsider thinking that the UFC was for thugs, and boxing had more honour. Though, obviously now I realise how stupid that was without actually giving it a chance, I'm now a bigger MMA fan than boxing, in fact I literally only watch the big fights in boxing nowadays, I couldn't care less about it otherwise.

So, I assume that getting these fighters in the spotlight, could prove beneficial to Dana. Dana should be upping the wages on principle alone considering how much PPV buys they have, and how low they're paying them in comparison with other professional athletes. However, I think Dana by offering fighters the chance to fight in boxing fights once or twice a year, but still restrict them from fighting in other MMA competitions could well be the way to get a happy middle ground with the fighters.

I thought the fight with Gane was incredibly close, Gane seemed to be too good moving around for Ngannou to get the connection, but Ngannou showed he can adapt, and he does have other tools to his belt. Obviously, when he was on top of Gane he effectively did nothing, but control. So, he definitely isn't brilliant at it, but its progress, and I want to see Ngannou stay in the UFC for a few years yet.
2295  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🥊 The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: January 24, 2022, 07:23:33 PM
What I didn't immediately pick up on was Dana didn't give Ngannou the belt, he's usually there to tie the belt around the champions waist, but didn't do that this time. Also, one of the journalists in the post conference said that Dana wasn't there either. I'm wondering whether there's a lot more going on behind the scenes, because if we are to take Ngannou for his word, he didn't have a clue why Dana seemly trying to avoid confrontation with Ngannou on camera.

I'm noticing that there's definitely a lot more fighters speaking up about pay issues now, think Dana will be forced to raise them eventually, probably only marginal knowing Dana.
2296  Economy / Reputation / Re: [LIST] ANN threads that are using bumping services on: January 24, 2022, 07:09:31 PM
Yeah, someone else has already moved it to the trashcan, if you find bounties which are offering an incentive to post, report them right away, and they'll be handled appropriately. Usually, by moving the thread to the trashcan, and then banning the OP, which is exactly what has happened in this case.

Good job. There's a lot that tend to do this by the way.
2297  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🥊 The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: January 23, 2022, 06:12:32 AM
Ngannou actually won by decision the crazy bastard. This sport is absolutely nuts sometimes. That's literally the one outcome I would have put a lot of money on not happening. Ngannou showing massive improvement in his grappling, didn't do a lot when he did get top position, but the body slams were sexy.

Wonder what his next move will be, as for Gane unlucky, but just couldn't handle the sheer strength of Francis. Dana is probably sweating buckets now, since his future in Gane has been temporarily derailed, and his current champion looking elsewhere.
2298  Economy / Reputation / Re: [LIST] ANN threads that are using bumping services on: January 21, 2022, 04:08:09 PM
At the end of December (around Christmas) I had 8032 good reports. Now I have 22.327 and 328 pending to be handled. And on January 1st I had 13.737 good reports. Therefore in the last days we certainly cleaned more than 5000 Smiley
Sweet, I know I've probably handled around 4000/5000 of the reports in the last week, obviously other moderators have pitched in too, but I didn't know the exact number. Going by those numbers though I expect we could potentially hit 30k reports in this months period, which would be quite something.

Most of the crap from these threads have been cleaned though, so I expect this will be slowing down in the coming months. Cheers for the help though, definitely feels quite therapeutic to clean up the forum, doesn't it?
2299  Other / Meta / Re: A friend of mine says he cannot post anything on: January 21, 2022, 12:17:19 PM

Why does this happen? As what we saw is the account was created last January 16 and these accounts was already 5 day old and base on my experience when I created this account after created I'll can post it immediately.
Why not try to refresh/restart his phone and try again to log in. Or log out the account then log in again.
As I stated above, logging in counts towards the posting time limit. It's in the unofficial rules by mprep:

Q: Why do I get the "The last posting from your IP was less than 360 seconds ago." error when I haven't posted today?
A: Logging in, sending PMs, searching via the forum's built in search engine and reporting posts to a moderator will also be counted as posting and extend this limit back to 360 seconds. Don't worry: as your activity increases, the 360 second limit will decrease as well. Here you can see the algorithm how the posting limit is calculated based on your activity: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=237597.msg4131557#msg4131557

So, logging in, and out again then trying to immediately post before the 360 seconds is up would yield the same result. As to why this has been implemented this way, it all likelihood its a SMF implementation, and not specific to this forum. Although, whoever its implemented by I suspect its just to try, and reduce spam from new users.

This is largely a non issue to most users, though for those that read the forum while not logged in, and then upon wanting to contribute to a discussion, try logging in, and then posting immediately then it would become an issue. I suspect most people log in before reading any discussions though, or simply leave themselves logged in permanently if they aren't using Tor etc.

So, removing this restriction would likely prove non beneficial to the vast majority of users, especially considering the limit decreases rather quickly as your activity increases. Also, most users won't mind waiting 360 seconds or their post would in most instances take longer than 360 seconds to write up.
2300  Economy / Reputation / Re: [LIST] ANN threads that are using bumping services on: January 21, 2022, 12:12:00 PM
With the amount of effort everyone's put in recently, I suspect we'll have another 20k report month ahead of us.

Majority of those threads simply cancel that bumping service when they see that their thread is going nowhere and posts have been deleted constantly day after day. But yeah, it's not a bad idea to revisit the threads occasionally as some of them will attempt the same thing, thinking that they lost the attention.
Yeah, some were active fairly recent. Although, I usually just scour threads in the first couple of pages of the Altcoin sections these days, since they're at least getting actively viewed by a large amount of users. I will revisit from time to time though, as it's much more manageable to catch them early, and remove their posts bit by bit, rather than having to report, and delete thousands of reports.

I appreciate the effort from everyone here though, we've probably removed over 5000 posts in the last few days/weeks. That's probably completely underestimating the real amount too.
