2461  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [BOXING] Logan Paul vs Mike Tyson on: December 24, 2021, 01:12:07 AM
There are reports that Logan Paul is having a continuous drinking streak every night and just enjoying his social life. He is not doing a practice nor putting a serious training regime. I don't know if that's true and still looking for a good source to verify it but the way I looked at it, it's likely true.

No catchweight, no winners, the fight is still unofficial, how can we even put an analysis here even it's an exhibition match.

The fight is still hanging in the air. We can expect "true" progress likely next year now.
Logan Paul clearly looks after his body, so I wouldn't be inclined to believe that unless shown proof. Sure, he definitely has proven in the past to fancy a drink or two or even a party. However, he doesn't seem to abuse his body completely, and even if he does he most certainly still works hard to look the way he does.

Despite how Logan Paul treats his body, Mike hasn't really treated it any better for years. Yeah, he definitely got in shape for his last exhibition, but before that he definitely wasn't treating it like a temple.
2462  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🥊 The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: December 24, 2021, 01:09:13 AM
In 125 I think Fig wins his belt back from Moreno.  In 155 Makhachev could be the champ late next year.  In 135 Yan gets his title back from Aljo, Dillashaw challenges and loses then it gets stale.
To be honest, I don't want either of them to lose. I quite like both Moreno, and Fig. Fig being so humble after his losses was nice to see, seemed genuinely happy for Moreno instead of just doing it to be a good sport. I think I do have a softer spot for Moreno though.

Absolutely, 100 percent agree with the Yan prediction, I actually think the rules need to be changed, and a belt can't be won via a disqualification. Instead, potentially vacating the belt would be better, something just doesn't sit right with me that you can lose the entire fight, up until an illegal blow. Punish the person that made the illegal blow sure, but don't reward the guy that was getting beat all over the cage. Yan takes the belt back, and hopefully Aljo doesn't avoid the fight for too long for the sake of the fans.

2463  Other / Meta / Re: Curious error received while reporting posts on: December 23, 2021, 02:05:17 PM
Before I get into the specifics about the situation, thanks for reporting, appreciate it! Definitely went through quite a bit of pages. A whole lot of spam was cleared up.

- I was "cleaning" topic X (it had 5 pages of posts and just a very few on the last page)
- I opened in new tabs all the posts I wanted to report
- I made a few reports (which were deleted by the mod almost same time as I made them)
-I noticed the post went from 5 pages to 4 (I noticed that by opening again the topic in a new tab, thus I could see its posts were reduced to only 4 pages)
-at this moment I think I received that error 20 times in a row, for the rest of posts which I had opened in tabs and I tried to report

I wanted to make sure if the posts were deleted by the mod (before having me reporting them) so I opened again the topic in a new tab. Thus, by opening it again it should show a refreshed information, correct? However, the topic remained still at 4 pages long. If the mod would have been deleting posts ahead of me, the number of pages would have been reduced, right?

Perhaps I explained now better...

I'm not exactly sure what happened on your end, but I know I was handling reports as you were putting them in, as well as cleaning the page up myself. Therefore, I may have deleted those posts right when you refreshed, but when you came to reporting the post it was already gone.

Without actually seeing what your process was, I couldn't really offer an alternative explanation to that. The particular reports were basically serial spammers, that were bumping threads up, even across multiple threads, but using the same accounts, so their posts were fairly easy to identify.

My normal process when I have time is whenever I have reports on a user who looks to be a particular problem I either take a look at their profile for further investigation or I go through that thread if I suspect there's multiple accounts involved. If I can't nuke them myself, but believe they justify a ban I usually delete the posts, and then keep a few for reference for the global moderators just to make life a little easier, and then submit a ban request. So, while all the posts may not be reported in that thread, I was going through on my own initiative to do a complete clean up.

Although, I suspect while when you opened the tab the posts were refreshed, and still there by the time you submitted the report they may have already been gone. Assuming I was the mod handling your reports at the time of this error. I think we went through pages, and pages of reports the last few days though, so it could have potentially been another moderator handling it.

It should be updated at the time of opening the page, usually. Though, sometimes deleting posts can take time, not an awful amount of time maybe a second or two, so that potential delay could have caused the issue. Plus, reporting posts takes a lot longer than a moderator actually deleting them. So, while you might report 10 posts, we can delete several posts at once if we use the checkbox system. I normally use Ctrl + clicking on delete post, so I can speed up the process a little bit.

Although, as you say most reports were being handled right after you reported them, so it was likely that the posts were getting deleted at the very same moment you opened the tab, then the time it took you to process that report i.e fill in the contents, and actually submit it that's when they were removed.

Addressing local moderators is useless, because they do not have the necessary authority to resolve such issues (in particular, moderators of the Russian section). And there's no point in applying because, like you said: "most English speaking moderators will ignore these sort of reports due to language difficulties."

I think you know what I mean.
Yeah, not being able to ban these users, and only being able to recommend. I meant if the report had been handled because it was deleted, but no further action worth giving them a message to see if it was for another reason. I didn't do a good job being clear with that, though.

Luckily, I haven't really had to deal with complex issues like this, since most of the plagiarist in the Spanish section have been newbies. Not like it happens a lot either there. I know your section in particular is much more busy in terms of number of users posting.

Still probably better to go through local moderators who can then escalate that report if required. I believe I've seen global moderators ban users based on a local mods suggestion.
2465  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🥊 The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: December 23, 2021, 01:43:00 PM
Based on the differences of opinion here, I say we need to see the fight happen. Makes the division a little bit more exciting for me.

I'm finding currently some of the divisions are starting to become a little stale. Even heavyweight for me with Ngannou. I'm not sure why that's the case for me, I quite like Ngannou, and I've been critical of Gane in the past, but I might actually be interested in seeing that fight to see if we can shake it up a little.

Although, I think Usman is getting a little bit stale now, I actually fancied Burns against him, but we all know how that turned out.

2466  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [BOXING] Logan Paul vs Mike Tyson on: December 23, 2021, 02:01:39 AM
The exhibition fights are no way affecting any of the combat sports, good boxing events are making huge money as long as they can attract an audience and MMA is making huge numbers as well. There is an audience as long as it is entertaining and how the promoters are able to promote the fight.
I'd say they've had an effect on boxing, though a positive one. I've felt for a few years now that boxing as a sport is generally going downhill in terms of popularity. This is partly due to the fees that are required to view the bigger fights, and the fact that most of the viewership come from a working class background, and might not be able to afford the price required. This has resulted in more, and more fans pirating the fights, and boxing losing revenue. Then, there's the issue with big fights not being made, probably because they can get more money building a fighter up, without actually putting them against anyone that could be competitive.

The exhibition fights we're seeing recently particularly with Logal Paul, and Jake Paul at least are bringing a new audience to boxing. Yeah, it isn't really that entertaining for a lot of us, at least the Logan Paul vs Mayweather fight wasn't, but it's putting more eyes on boxing as a result of Jake Paul being quite dis likable.

Mike Tyson going against Logan Paul is only going to continue to put new eyes on the sport, and as a result build on viewer retention, and make boxing more money down the line.
2467  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do you think crypto is going to replace the dollar? Jack: Yes, Bitcoin will on: December 22, 2021, 11:43:18 PM
It won't anyway, both are quite different and there'll likely still be a need for the dollar (and other currencies, even if they're just pegged to an asset).

Even if crypto does become valuable enough to replace state issued currencies, they'll likely offer solutions for people to still carry around paper money or use debit card systems from their own issued currency - it might just end up being backed by crypto but I wouldn't consider that a replacement.
The dollar will just move to a digital based one. Long gone on the days of physical currencies, and while yeah we do still use them currently, the majority of people are now using card payments. I suspect in the next few decades physical money will only be reserved as collectibles.

I'd argue that Bitcoin is already valuable enough. Since, allowing everyone to have control of their own money, while still being secure for a decently knowledgeable person on security, is one of the most valuable things in the world when it comes to freedom, and security.

Its the fact that we have a government that uses fiat currencies, that's really the only reason that fiat currencies are the primary currency. They only have limited usages when compared to Cryptocurrencies.

^  Chikadze finishing Cub Swanson, I was like yeah whatever..  Swanson is getting close to being washed up as a fighter.  But Chikadze winning Edson Barboza who was somewhat looking good at 145?  And not just winning.  Chikadze finished him in the third round.  That was pretty convincing to me that he’s on another level.  I’m kinda thinking Chikadze could even make it look competitive vs Holloway...  Dunno.
Not sure, that's what makes it exciting. I'd be interested in a Chikadze vs Holloway. I think I would lean towards Max, but I suspect that the odds would be good enough for Chikadze to make it worth putting a bet on. At this point, I think Max is probably at the very peak of his career, whereas I actually think Chikadze could reach higher levels than Max potentially despite being older. I think it's actually crazy that Max is thirty years old, feels like the guy has been around forever.
2469  Other / Archival / Re: Own confession of ban evading on: December 22, 2021, 11:20:35 AM
I don't see any cause to investigate in any depth.  If someone admits to breaking the rules we should feel comfortable taking their word for it.  Perhaps if they didn't behave abusively with the new account we shouldn't hold it further against them -- just nuke it and move on.

Most likely, though-- these people were actually banned.  Excessive exposure to internet crackhouses like reddit and twitter where bragging that you were banned while posting violent harassment usually won't get you banned again unless you blunder into also offending the politics of the corporate overloads just has people thinking they can get away with saying crap like that.
Which is why I think we don't have too many examples of this happening. Only a select few would go to the point of trolling, and that's partly the reason why I usually leave these sort of reports, so that other moderators will be able to take a look, and judge for themselves.

I suspect this sort of thing has been attempted, but I suppose the attitude to it was; don't say you've previously been banned, if you don't want to risk your account. I like to be on the more cautious side, and take a look at it, whereas I know there will be several others who won't think twice.

The thing is, from the way I handle these instances, it would likely be ineffective the majority of the time. Since, as you say the majority are likely bragging, and telling the truth about being banned. So, as some would say, my over cautious approach is likely 99% inefficient most of the time. Though, having it left in the queue, its likely it'll be handled regardless.

The thing is; the majority of the time these users that are admitting to being banned, have already broken some other sort of rule too since they don't really care about how things run here. If they've been banned before, and continue to post here its likely they won't change their behaviour, and be banned whether or not they admit to being banned anyway.

The account admitted that this is already his third account on the forum, and his two previous accounts have been banned.
I reported this to the moderators, but instead of a ban or some kind of negative label, the moderators simply deleted the confirmation message. There is an archive left.  https://archive.ph/08PO0
And the third account sometimes appears on the forum, as if nothing had happened.
Therefore, of course, the moderators can act as they see fit.  Smiley
Might be a good idea to contact the local moderators for clarification since most English speaking moderators will ignore these sort of reports due to language difficulties.
2470  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🥊 The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: December 21, 2021, 09:41:47 PM
Kevin Holland is a black belt in BJJ.  It’s the reason why he basically accepts being taken down cos he’s also skilled with his back on the mat.  I mean it works against lesser fighters in the UFC but not against fringe top 15 guys and up.  And once fighter enter top 10, he should at least have decent defensive wrestling...  It’s modern MMA.
I've seen varying levels of black belts, and that's what's somewhat controversial in marital arts, is that there's no universal standard of a black belt. Although, Kevin is actually pretty decent at surviving the submissions thrown at him, so his BJJ does help him there. However, he rarely ever dominates on the ground, and I think his weakness of takedown defense, and threat on the ground has been exposed recently.

Fantastic fighter on the feet, decent at surviving on the ground, but being competitive on the ground? We haven't really seen that at all, except for his sort of freak knockout from the bottom.
2471  Other / Archival / Re: Own confession of ban evading on: December 21, 2021, 09:33:58 PM
I am a little bit curious about what sort of tools mods or admins could use that is not available to regular users, and is not privacy sensitive as well. If it is not something that can be shared, I will totally understand that.
By tools, I'm referring to deleted posts that a normal moderator or user can't access (unless created by third party aggregator site), especially when trying to connect an account to another, since deleted posts by moderators could come in handy, IP checks, and various other things. They aren't exactly tools, more like just more access to certain pages. The forum actually has a decent ish alt account detection prompt (exact algorithm unknown), which can be helpful at times. It's by no means an absolute, and it isn't to be treated like X account is linked to Y account, but rather a prompt for further investigation. Its not just that though, a global moderator handling reports in multiple sections, has a higher chance of connecting a post, since if multiple posts of that user is being reported site wide, they might be able to identify the connection easier. I've seen this only on the Altcoin section, since a spammer is usually reported multiple times, and I've caught account farms in this way, and I'm sure a few other moderators have too.

Most accounts that end up getting banned, especially for spam are easily linked. Obviously, they'll be complex examples also, but the vast majority will be for spamming, and spammers usually tend to have more than one account, and write the exact same thing over, and over again without a large amount of variation. Usually, because they're paid or at the very least incentivized to post, and therefore try to churn out as much as possible in a short period of time.

So, I don't have any special access to anything. Admins will have IP records which could potentially be used. Though, obviously we know that's pretty easy to avoid. Though, I think most on the forum know how to avoid IP identification, they just don't for whatever reason especially when it comes to spammers. Probably laziness.

So to recap, while admins or global moderators might not have more tools at their disposable per say, they do have a better chance of linking accounts simply by using the reports as a tool, if you get me. I tend to leave complicated reports in the queue for this reason, if I don't have any additional information to act upon, and there's reasonable doubt, then perhaps someone else looking to handle it will have additional information. Otherwise, the worse thing that happens is no action is taken, and the report goes unhandled or maybe marked as bad if appropriate. Its likely that every moderator that reviewed that report will make a unconscious note though, so if any other reports crop up with the user then that could spark further investigation too.
2472  Other / Archival / Re: Own confession of ban evading on: December 21, 2021, 03:37:55 PM
I discussed this with one of the moderators earlier. He said that such statements can somehow substitute a moderator when he decides to ban this user only on the basis of his confession.

In my opinion, this is a rather lengthy refutation. Because you can also register a new user, publish in your post some telegram address or wallet address that does not belong to you, but is known on the forum. And thus associate yourself with someone who was previously banned. Moderators will not investigate whether this address really belongs to this newbie, they will simply see a match on the addresses and on this basis, according to paragraph 25 of the rules, they will ban him.
Which I believe has been attempted multiple times in the past when it comes to trust issues, not sure if its been attempted with more forum related issues. I wouldn't be surprised if it has.

And even if someone later says that he did this on purpose in order to substitute the moderator, it will not be some kind of abuse on the part of the moderator, because the user himself decided to substitute himself in this way and bring himself under the ban. I believe that the responsibility for this behavior, whether it is the publication of someone else's address, which is linked to a previously banned user, or the recognition of a newly registered Newby that he was banned yesterday, lies only with this newbie.
Yeah its a tricky one, and I think context really matters as it could vary widely from each case. You could potentially consider claiming the account to be theirs as trolling, and that might by itself constitute a ban. It really does depend on the situation I'd say. I think for the most part, thorough investigation when it can be carried out, should probably be carried out. Lack of data, probably side on the more cautious side, but I know that there will definitely be moderators out there that would disagree with this approach.

Either way, if a user gets banned they can contact the admins via the appropriate channels provided, and potentially get unbanned. I don't think there's been too many issues related to this particular problem.

Such cases should be investigated more thoroughly if such confessions are written by some higher rank, with a old registration date, but a newbie who creates his own record today and says that he was banned yesterday is unlikely to somehow substitute someone.
Naturally, there would be more information available to review. Moderators have a decent amount of tools to be able to make an educated guess on whether an account is connected, but Global Moderators, and then the admins are very likely to be more suited to act upon it. I personally would probably leave this type of issue for the higher ups since they've more tools at their disposal. Unless, the evidence was absolute obviously.
2473  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🥊 The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: December 21, 2021, 12:35:35 PM
^  Yup!  Most of the smaller events have been as good as the PPV ones.  And I think it’s more Thompson is getting washed than Muhammad getting a lot better.  But yeah..  At this point, Muhammad has the higher ceiling than Thompson but only cos of age.  Thompson is in near retirement.
Yeah, Wonderboy is getting on a bit now. His takedown defense has never been that good, but his ability to constantly hurt the man in front of him is whats kept him at a high level. I think a few more fights for him, and he'll call it a day. Any fighter he goes up against knows the recipe to beat him, its a bit like Kevin Holland, where they're both incredibly dangerous on the feet, very skillful, though there's a clear pathway to beating them.

The thing is with Thompson he's slowing down with age so he doesn't have that element to his game like he did a few years ago. Luckily Kevin Holland still has that, and will always remain dangerous while he's still in prime condition.

Its sad to see one of my favourite fighters deteriorate like this, especially against what I thought was a poor performance from Belal despite getting the win. I won't lie, when Belal said post fight he's the one with the hype in the division, I give a little laugh. In no alternative reality is he the hype man in the division, and I can't believe he had the audacity to even suggest so after that performance.
2474  Other / Meta / Re: Would be nice to have a dedicated space to discuss about the NFTs? :) on: December 21, 2021, 12:23:41 PM
If there is decision of taking it out you would seriously find members filling up other boards with such topics and it's good that we have different sections allocated for the each fragment of crypto market. So it's all good as it is.
I'm not entirely sure if it would, but usually people want to make money, and they'll find whatever gap in the market they can. At the moment, NFTs are somewhat similar to the ICO hype a few years ago, and will likely die off in a couple of years time, and be replaced with some new fad, which could be Bitcoin related or Altcoin. Though, altcoins definitely have a larger field to play in than Bitcoin services.

So, absolutely if the Altcoin section were to be removed, the amount of spam would be at a all time low, however as mentioned above by others, at what cost. The forum already makes enough money, and probably has enough money in the reserves to remain a discussion forum for a long time, however currently I would say Bitcointalk is still the place to be if you want to discuss anything about cryptocurrencies, and personally I would like to keep it as that, removing a large part of the industry would probably alienate quite a few users from the forum, and they would look for elsewhere.

The forum has a history, but not many users registering here today care too much about that. In fact, I'd probably say close the majority aren't even aware of its history, and have just heard you can make money here. Bitcointalk is one of the most unique opportunities, as well as cryptocurrencies which yeah does cause some issues from time to time, but I think the pros outweigh the cons.

The Altcoin section alone this month has probably had over 3000 reports, which is a little out of the ordinary, but if you compare it with the Hilariousandco's thread about the number of reports per period, then you'll see that the Altcoin section plays a significant part in the amount of reports we receive on a regular basis. That can also signal that there are users in that section, that care about it though. So, while the numbers initially indicate that's a problem, there's clearly users here that care about the section.
2475  Other / Archival / Re: Own confession of ban evading on: December 21, 2021, 12:03:58 PM
Probably would still have to be investigated by staff to see what they're saying is actually true. At the end of the day, and I know its slightly different, but a lot of people when it court admit to crimes they never committed, and while it might not be the exact same here on the forum, they could potentially be trying to troll other users or actually try, and get banned, and then cause a scene because there was no proof.

I'd say feel free to report them for this, and let staff who have the correct access permissions, double check it to see if there's any correlation. Though, as with anything it depends on the users discretion who is handling the report.

Trust is subjective, and you could argue that whether they're telling the truth or not could warrant a tag. I generally like the idea of leaving forum issues to moderation, though obviously its difficult to tell in these instances, and ultimately comes down to the user leaving the trust. As above, my suggestion would be to just report it to bring it to the attention, and just keep an eye how it's handled.
2476  Other / Meta / Re: Bitcointalk posts as nft on: December 20, 2021, 08:41:26 PM
However, the purpose of NFTs isn't about the content, but the rights of it.
Yeah, NFTs actually make quite a bit of sense in certain scenarios, though that's limited, and currently we're going through a phase of everything in the world becoming an NFT, which in a lot of instances doesn't really make all that much sense.

Especially, Bitconitalk posts. Doesn't make sense to me, and I'd say Twitter is the same. Though, I do accept that's the way the world is going currently. I do think its a phase though, and a lot of people will be looking back at this somewhat like the ICO craze a few years ago.
2477  Other / Meta / Re: Bitcointalk posts as nft on: December 20, 2021, 10:11:38 AM
NFT's in the most part seem a lot like going to the park in the city where the air is supposedly cleaner, bottling it, and selling it to people that are rushing to work in their cars. Why on earth someone would want to own a Bitcointalk post, that someone else wrote just doesn't make much sense.

NFT's have their uses I suppose, but Bitcointalk posts aren't that. NFT's are just being abused, and overused for a means of making money. It'll fade away given enough time. It does make you laugh though, that someone that's free, and open to all is now being peddled as something that's exclusive, and worth something, like Twitter posts. A bit ridiculous really, especially considering most Bitcoin users would have once upon a time liked the idea that its decentralised.

Anyway, Bitcointalk posts as NFTs? Nah, not going to happen.
2478  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Jake Paul vs Tyron Woodley 2 - December 18 on: December 20, 2021, 10:06:27 AM
He won't go far facing real pro boxers tbh. Even gold medalists who trained since kid often didn't go well in pro fighting, let alone for someone who started too late.
Jake's strategy works well so far with him fighting tough guys but not real pro boxers, so I think it would be best for him to keep doing what his best, to entertain people with this kind of match Grin Jake isn't that strong, but he is intelligent. He picks fights with people that he thinks he can beat.
Most boxers pick someone they think they can beat, same as in UFC usually. In boxing you notice it more, because it seems that your record means a lot more, and a lot of boxers have a zero on their record, while in MMA that's rare. So, he isn't really doing anything different to professional boxers, except he's particularly good at flirting with the line of impressive while remaining some what safe. Woodley is a good puncher, and at times a good fighter. However, he freezes a lot, and that was in his prime. You can see the effect of lack of training, and age has had on him, despite still possessing decent enough ability.
2479  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Jake Paul vs Tyron Woodley 2 - December 18 on: December 20, 2021, 01:30:18 AM
That was one hell of a knockout highlight.  Looks like Woodley was gassed pretty bad at that point.  This is why you don't take a fight at the last minute...

Now it's all about who is next...  Masvidal got called out but seems to only want to MMA, which I was surprised to see a great fighter basically cower from a challenge in the ring.  That says something about what Paul is doing and that he's getting respect from real fighters now.

Le'Veon Bell wanting to be the next to fight Paul seems intriguing to me.  Supposedly Bell is a great fighter and a hell of an athlete.  I'd like to see that fight.  I'd rather see him fight a real boxer at this point though, or at least a non-retired fighter of some kind.

I'd still like to see the Tommy fight, even though I think Jake probably does a number on him. Though, at least then we would be able to gauge his ability against a fighter to is still very much currently partipating in primarily a boxing aspect, rather than mixed martial art, and retired fighters.

Masvidal would be sweet, though Jake probably wins that from a boxing point of view. Though, Masvidal being from a street fighting background might be able to fair better than previous MMA fighters against Jake, although I'm not sure I'm prepared to see the circus it would create if Jake Paul managed to knock out Masvidal.
2480  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Jake Paul vs Tyron Woodley 2 - December 18 on: December 19, 2021, 08:57:08 PM
I think fighters now are very practical, they forget about Legacy already, instead they focus on the money. Some may still continue to fight despite proven already that they can achieve their goal. Look at Manny Pacquiao, he is already a legend and yet he still continues fighting even if he knows at his age he cannot bring his power to defeat a young and stronger fighter, so he ends up retiring after a loss instead of retiring after he won against Thurman.
Really, a lot of the time legacy is associated with the fighters ego, and I'm not sure its something that should be commended. I'm not bothered what the reason people enter the fighting sports scene for, since they're providing entertainment. In fact, there's a counter argument to be made that fighting whoever, and whenever could potentially be ever more credible. There's also the argument that they just love fighting sports, and therefore want to get as many as possible. I'm not a fan of the mentality of protecting a legacy if it means the fans don't get the best fights, because at the end of the day we want to see the biggest, and best fights the sport has to offer.

Yeah, Jake Paul isn't really at that status yet, but he could potentially get there if he keeps making these statements. We'll be able to gauge it better once he has fought a boxer in their prime, which you could argue he has already tried to do with Tommy Fury, but that wasn't meant to be this time around. I know one thing, Tommy Fury if the fight is made again will be much more wary of Jake Paul going into the fight after this knockout, and I think that might actually benefit him in hindsight.
