3261  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: May 26, 2021, 08:32:25 PM
Jon Jones is not going to get back fighting in octagon for one more year because he realized it's not that easy to be a heavyweight fighter.
He's just staying relevant, by acting big on social media. I think he misses the spotlight, but for sure knows that he would find it very difficult to actually beat the current heavyweights. I don't think we see him return, but he's likely to keep on chirping in the background for the foreseeable future.

I don't even know why he would even deserve a title shot (which is what people seem to be speculating about). He's been out for too long now in my opinion. UFC is moving on from Jon Jones, and I think thats what he doesn't like about it.
3262  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Mining Council on: May 26, 2021, 08:30:09 PM
You can't. Majority of the miners are not included in the set of miners that were supposedly included. Miners will use renewable energy if it makes sense; namely lower costs or being located in a suitable geographical location. Having less than 20% of the miners openly state that they're only using renewable energy is hardly helping, media will still perceive it as a frivolous use of electricity that could otherwise be used for other more productive purposes.
As with Elon, its not about a matter of fact. Elon knows this, it was likely pressure from his shareholders that forced the Tesla announcement of dropping BTC purchases. Elon I believe has been on record stating he believes Bitcoin incentivizes green energy, although don't quote me on that.

The thing is, we don't need to prove that all miners are on green energy. We just need to show that there's a concentrated effort for them to mitigate. We might know that lower the costs, the more profit margin for the miners, so of course they aren't going to use fossil fuels for no reason, but we aren't the people that need convincing. Its the general public, and if we can refute their claims, via providing a small percentage of miners, that have openly declared what they use as evidence to back it up, I believe that will only be beneficial.

The Tesla movement was clearly a PR move, rather than Elon suddenly developing a conscious, and changing his mind with Bitcoin. I also believe he's been talking a lot about Dogecoin...so there's that too.
3263  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Is it possible to hack a digital currency wallet? on: May 26, 2021, 03:03:08 PM
@Welsh and @bob123
You're both right, the biggest "attack vector" is indeed the user... I certainly agree with that, but when i wrote my post, for some reason, i was thinking about the semi-technical attackvectors instead of the PICNIC "vectors" Smiley. (for those who don't know this acronym: i picked it up in one of my first jobs where i had to man the helpdesk for 1 day a week => PICNIC = Problem In Chair, Not In Computer..... aka 90% of the helpdesk calls)
Yeah, I think I understood where you were coming from when I made my reply, I just wanted to make it clear for others reading that generally, you don't have to worry too much about the software, but rather your own behaviour, and habits. I think we've all at some point in our lives, potentially compromised ourselves by not thinking or being complacent.

Software at least gets seen by multiple eyes, but generally when it comes down to user error, you act on instinct or in other words don't give much thought to it, and that's when your more prone to being compromised.

The issue is that, again generally speaking, most "Digital Currency Wallets" provide mechanisms to make the required amounts of time, money and resources so vast that it is simply not temporally of economically feasible to do so.
This is especially true for normal average people. If you are particularly famous or a lot of people know that you have a lot of money, then you might be more prone to attacks. However, the principles are the same, its generally not the software you should be worried about, but your own habits, and personal security.

3264  Economy / Speculation / Re: Is the Bitcoin crash an opportunity to enter the market? on: May 26, 2021, 02:57:45 PM
When I got into Crypto currencies, people repeated this mantra over and over again... "Buy Low & Sell High" and I took their advice. The end result was a 800% profit on my initial investment. So divide that into the 4 years that it took to make that profit and you end up with 200% yearly profit on my investment... (Show me an legal inflation killer investment that yields 200% profit in a year and I will also invest in that)

What I have experienced in my 8 years in Crypto currencies is this.... "Crypto is not a Get Rich Quick scheme... you Buy low... hoard ... Sell for a profit when it spike" ...then rinse & repeat.  Cool
The hard part is determining what is the tip of the spike. I much prefer to advise people or investors to set a target, and cash out at that target regardless. Wait, until Bitcoin takes a hit again, and that's your next investment start point. Currently, because of how volatile Bitcoin is, you get these opportunities. However, this will likely change, and become less dramatic over time, which is when I would advise hoarding it, would be the best option or simply by that time using as a currency might be a little more viable.
3265  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Mining Council on: May 26, 2021, 02:43:49 PM
First of all, Bitcoin should not be influenced by an external party. Users should be able to choose what kind of Bitcoin that they want without having something else forced down their throats.

Bitcoin probably won't accept anything else other than PoW, the community won't take it neither will majority of the other miners. If you're talking about renewable energy, sure! Most miners can already switch to them if the tariffs are cheaper. There should never be anything that governs the miners; it basically does nothing as there is no repercussions from breaking any rules and there is a risk of centralization as well. Forming an organization like this can threaten and restrict how the miners operates, which is not great.

Like it or not, this is just Elon Musk trying to save his investments and avoid a bad financial report.
I don't see Bitcoin being influenced by external parties here. Well, not too much. We should be adapting, and trying to fit within the world for our own benefit though, and while I guess there was influence on this happening, its probably for the better.

If we can prove that miners are using green energy instead of fossil fuels, it means that's one less attack vector that the news, and governments can use against us. We would actually be better than most industries that people use on the daily.

I'm all for improvement, regardless of the influencing factors.
3266  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: UEFA Champions League Discussion Thread on: May 26, 2021, 02:40:49 PM
I've gone with a Villarreal, and Chelsea accumulator, along with a few other games in the play offs of the championship, i.e Swansea to win. I just think Manchester City have a lot of pressure coming into this game, while Chelsea have a rather relaxed approach to it. The key men will be Mason Mount, and KDB. If KDB turns up, then he will always cause some sort of problem for the opposition. However, I'm expecting a bit of nerves in that City side.

Chelsea 2-1.
3267  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: UEFA Europa League Discussion Thread on: May 26, 2021, 02:38:22 PM
I've gone for Villarreal. I look at that Man Utd squad, and I just don't see the passion there. I feel like in big games a lot of them are passengers. Look at the Liverpool game for example, you might argue that Liverpool had more to play for, but its a derby match so you would expect some sort of minimal commitment. I did say that if Man Utd didn't play Fred (who I believe is injured now) they would likely take this. However, I think Villarreal are going to turn up for this, and in typical Spanish fashion, frustrate the English side.

I also think the ref will unfortunately have a lot of impact on how this game flows. If he allows a fast paced game, then I expect Manchester United to come out on top.
3268  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [ BOXING POLL ADDED ] JOSHUA vs USYK on: May 26, 2021, 02:35:33 PM
Seriously ... 3 votes for Usik? I'm just wondering what was the motivation behind the people when they voted for Joshua ...
Nationality will always play a part, and be part of the bias. However, not a lot of people will want Joshua to lose simply because they want to see Fury VS Joshua. So, I suspect this is what is skewing the results. I for example, really want Joshua win simply because I want to see all the belts on the line  for the Fury fight. However, I actually kind of think that Usyk will beat him. Usyk definitely isn't a pushover, but we all have to admit that we watch the sport because of the hype, and Joshua vs Usyk doesn't have a lot. Meanwhile, Fury, and Joshua we especially British fighters have been wanting for a long while.
3269  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: May 26, 2021, 02:33:05 PM
I was more tongue in cheek with my remark, but I would disagree with you that any Bellator card a UFC lower-tier card. There were some piss poor UFC cards and at times Bellator offered more interesting fights by less known fighters. Is that the norm? No, but that's why my comment was a bit cheeky Smiley However, in no way were all UFC dumpster fire cards better than any Bellator card.
What cards do you have in mind in the UFC that were bad? I've been watching a long time, and there's always been at least one or two entertaining fights. Although, I'll admit I'm a fan of the sport, the multi discipline side, rather than just individuals in the sport. I understand, that many might think a certain event is bad, if they only watch their favorite fighters. For example, the Costa VS Adesanya fight recently, may be considered quite bad, as nothing really happened until it was over. Plus, Costa just didn't seem to want to engage.

However, the prelims, and other main card fights on that card were pretty damn good.

3270  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Everybody talking about digital currency like btc will replace fiat but question on: May 26, 2021, 02:28:29 PM
The credit based currency option is much more sustainable and likely it will happening.
How can a unsustainable currency be more sustainable?  The fact of the matter, credit based currencies as you put it, aren't going to be sustainable, regardless of whether you believe they will outlast Bitcoin or any other cryptocurrency. In theory, as long as people still want Bitcoin, and there's Bitcoin still being circulated, i.e trading among people then it should be far more sustainable than any other currency out there. The mining process has been created in such a way that sustainability is kept in mind, and doesn't hit the hard limit until there's been enough people who are using it both a currency, and investment.

If you give your reasons why you think its sustainable, other than what DannyHamilton has already replied too, I would be more than willing to refute them or admit that you're right.
3271  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: To be honest about Investing on: May 26, 2021, 02:25:02 PM
Technically, you don't actually need to know what your doing. You could just get lucky, or if you believe in Bitcoin in the long term, you could just keep your investment in Bitcoin, until it reaches the desired amount. Regular trading or daily trading is something which takes a little bit more skill as to profit daily, it means you have to be monitoring the market. That isn't something that's easy to do, and I would say for most people they make a profit via luck, rather than determining what the market is going to do, and how it will react to certain news.
3272  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Be a counselor to newbies on: May 26, 2021, 02:14:01 PM
If they are irritated with the similar question or trend or repeated why not just keep it down and don't say hurting words to newbie that instead of encouragement so they could correct it and understand it better. Higher rank ussrs should have patience with them IMO.
There's no doubt about it, there is a hostility to certain things that users ask about. Sometimes its unnecessary. However, I'm not sure how we could even improve upon that, I think there's been quite a lot of users expressing that we shouldn't be so quick to be hostile, but it doesn't seem to have had much of an effect overall.
You are very right about this, but some newbies do not like to accept corrections, they see it as criticism but which is wrong. I noticed the ones that are very passionate about bitcoin and bitcointalk later become ranked members too, but they also accept corrections which is the reason for this forum existence.
This is natural in human behaviour, when someone has a bit of an ego. It doesn't necessarily mean they deserve the hostility though.
3273  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Be a counselor to newbies on: May 25, 2021, 10:16:31 PM
Its important to note, that this is a forum which is available to the public. Just because one user doesn't listen, or heed your advice doesn't mean its been lost. There will be others which happen upon the thread, and maybe learn something. This is why I tend to encourage people in general life, and not just here on the forum (but especially here) to not only point out where they are wrong or right, but to expand on their points, and provide references to where they can read about it more.

If you believe that bitcointalk members behave toxically to newbies, let me stop you there, because they're none but kind and helpful.
There is most certainly times where users are unnecessarily hostile to newbies, and while this may be only isolated cases, there's no real need to be in the first place. I've seen this most commonly when a user asks a question, which has been asked before. However, not everyone uses the language the same as someone else, and when Bitcoin is full of technical terms, I actually encourage newbies to ask questions in their own words if they are struggling to understand from previous threads. I used to learn most, by confirming to my mentor that I understand by demonstrating it in my own words. It works.

Of course, I do encourage users to try, and understand previously asked, and answered questions here on the forum, but I definitely don't encourage the act of being hostile if they don't, and need to clarify.
3274  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Boxing]: Tank Davis vs Barrios - June 26 on: May 25, 2021, 10:09:24 PM
So it will be a chess match and he who makes the first mistake will loss this fight.
I'm not sure. I don't personally think anyone is getting knocked out, so whoever makes the first mistake needs to adjust. I do agree that I believe this fight will be won on who can neutralize the others persons attack. Tank has to neutralize the height of Barrios, and therefore close the distance, and Barrios has to neutralize those power shots that Tank is capable of.

This is why I think it'll go to a points decision. I predict a cagey affair, both being a little gun shy in the earlier rounds.
3275  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: May 25, 2021, 10:04:55 PM
Yeah, I've never been disappointed by a UFC card, but I have been disappointed quite routinely by a boxing card. This is due to the multi discipline, and lack of boring fights.  Every weekend, there's an absolute war going on. Don't get me wrong, I've been disappointed by main events quite a few times, but that's kind of natural due to the cagey ness of usually fighting for a belt or something bigger. However, I'm often entertained by the prelims, and in fact are usually some of the most entertaining fights for me.

I don't tend to catch Bellator has frequently as UFC, as I tend to value my sleep, but also its usually an absolute landslide in terms of betting, and the result. Favorites are usually the ones to dominate over there.
3276  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [ BOXING POLL ADDED ] JOSHUA vs USYK on: May 25, 2021, 10:02:08 PM
I'm quoting you it's possible to remember Joshua suffered a huge upsets at the hands of Ruiz and Joshua is a heavy favorite that upsets change so many things it stopped the Joshua train and possible unification with Wilder, Usyk can possibly do that he has a good record and fought a lot of good fighters,  of course, Joshua can't afford another upset if he wants to establish himself as one the greatest heavyweight fighter of this generation
Yeah, it wasn't a complete smashing by Ruiz though. Joshua had already sat him down, and then got caught himself in a sort of brawl type scenario. Joshua has demonstrated this before against other boxers in the division. Whyte for example. Hes prone to losing his head per say, by participating in these brawl scenarios, which are usually 50/50.

Also, I wasn't convinced by Joshua on his second outing against Ruiz, as Ruiz clearly wasn't bringing the fire he brought in the first fight, and Joshua looked to win by technical boxing, rather than a punch up like he usually does.
3277  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [ BOXING POLL ADDED ] JOSHUA vs USYK on: May 24, 2021, 11:29:37 PM
Honestly, as fans of boxing, and this is particularly true for British boxing fans, we've wanted to see Fury VS Joshua for a long time, and the sweetest part of this fight this time around, was it was for all belts. I can almost guarantee the boxing gods will now smite us, and either Fury or Joshua will lose their belt, and we won't get the fight.

Plus, I actually think that Usyk is a great match up for Joshua, and I can see him really testing him. So, if I was to bet my money on one of Joshua or Fury losing, it would more than likely be Joshua since Usyk is a proper good boxer where as Wilder only has that punchers chance.

Usyk by shock TKO.
3278  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: May 24, 2021, 10:24:56 PM
I had an alright week in terms of predictions, Silva getting the KO before my round 2 prediction particularly annoyed me. Although, I wasn't actually far off from landing some big money. Onto the next event. Speaking of the next event, I can't believe I have to go a whole weekend without UFC to watch!

I'll look at the scheduled fights a little closer to the date as I imagine a few will be chopped, and changed by the time the 6th rolls around.

3279  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: May 22, 2021, 06:18:23 PM
I've gone for a 4 fold which returns 45k. Then a multi sport one which is a longer one at 45k. I'll probably do some in play bets once both of these bets fail on the first fight, as tradition.

I've got:

Damir Ismagulov by decision
Yancy Medeiros
Joshua Culibao by decision
Bruno Silva rnd 2 (4 fold)
Chris Barnett by decision
Edmen Shahbazyan rnd 3 (4 fold)
Justin Tafa rnd 3 (4 fold)

Main event I've actually put in for either fighter to win by TKO (4 fold). Not great value, but put it in just because I don't really like not betting on the main event.
3280  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: May 22, 2021, 09:51:52 AM
Is there not a fight night scheduled next week? I've got used to having fights every weekend or at least close to that, so when there isn't one I feel like something is missing in my life Tongue

I'm going with Rob Font, but I won't be betting on the fight, its way too close to call. Not even going for an alternative bet like rounds or anything. It should at least be a good fight to watch, and hopefully is what we are all predicting; competitive.
