3241  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The fall from 65k to $30k was the best thing to ever happen to Bitcoin on: June 04, 2021, 01:26:31 PM
Sorry, but I don't see how any of your points proves that this was the best thing ever happened to Bitcoin. I see it as a pretty bad thing, because this bull run was shorter and smaller in terms of relative gains, compared to the previous bull cycles, which means that the rate of Bitcoin's price growth could be slowing down. Though it's a pretty expected thing, because at this point almost everyone is aware of Bitcoin
I think you countered your own counter argument there though. Bull runs, are expected somewhat to slow down, in terms of the amount of people buying in, and the longevity of them. In theory, as more people invest in Bitcoin, the more it should become stable. the longer, and the closer we get to the limit it shouldn't be so volatile. This is helped by the block rewards being reduced as time goes on.

So, while you might be correct in it not being a good thing, I don't see it as a necessarily bad thing. It entirely depends on your perspective, since if you are a opportunistic investor then this is a good thing, and all the previous times it was a good thing. If you are someone who wants to use Bitcoin as a currency, then of course this can be seen as a bad thing, especially if you are focusing on Bitcoin as a currency right now.

There's always two sides of the spectrum, so there will always be people who benefit from price drops, and those that lose out. Usually, this is linked to confidence in Bitcoin, the reasons for investing, and what they intend to use Bitcoin for.
3242  Other / Meta / Re: An Alternative to Merit on: June 04, 2021, 01:16:13 PM
I'd like to see some quality of life features added onto the existing merit system, such as a button to potentially alert merit sources on a post being good. This could potentially be abused, but maybe it should be restricted somewhat to certain ranks or a limit per day etc.

A like system would probably be okay, I don't see any major drawbacks, and maybe as a result of having a like button we will see less users giving merit because they agree with a post. Since, in my opinion a like system is completely different to the current merit system, which sometimes gets treated as the same by certain users.

What about "dislike"? I mean, if you want to have "like", why not to have dislike too, seeing so much bs being written all over the place. I know that de-meriting was proposed too, but that would probably be too drastic, but dislike would be nice addition, especially if post that gets enough dislikes get hidden, so something similar to reddit.
I feel like this would just create unnecessary feuds, which don't get me wrong we have already, but would be exaggerated with something as simple as a dislike button. Right now, to show that you disagree with something, you actually have to come up with a decent counter argument on why you disagree with them, a dislike button means it'll be abused to attack certain users. Of course, it doesn't really mean anything, but to the person posting it might. A like button, being only positive, and doesn't actually have any bearing on the post means its mostly for fluff, but doesn't really do any harm either way.
3243  Other / Meta / Re: Is it time to increase the Emojis ? on: June 04, 2021, 01:10:41 PM
Personally I feel that by using emojis, it lighten things up and makes conversations less serious just like this.
I only really find them effective when your being particularly sarcastic, since that's pretty hard to convey over the internet, and through text. This also goes for anything which your saying in jest, but could potentially be interpreted as serious. Maybe, I'm getting old, and I'm just not that fun to be around anymore, but I tend to only use them when texting, and rarely on discussion based platforms.
3244  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: June 04, 2021, 01:07:30 PM
Sometimes it just seems the luck of the draw, and stylistic differences.  I've been convinced that x fighter would batter the other one, and the complete opposite has happened numerous times. The thing is, everything might look like its perfect, and a easy bet, but we as fans often don't see the nitty, and gritty training sessions, where their motivation is the driving force on why they are successful. For example, if you gave me, a nobody a chance for the title, I'm probably going to be more motivated, and probably perform better than if you put me in with a sparring match against Jon Jones.

So, although that's a extreme example, the motivating factors behind the fight are sometimes hard to judge.  Then its different styles you have to consider, for example a predominately stand up fighter will sometimes not perform well standing up, and actually get out striked by a wrestler simply due to them being cagey, and looking to prevent the take down. There's just so much to consider, that I usually just go with my gut feeling, and only sometimes do I actually go in depth. Think like big title fights.
3245  Other / Meta / Re: A modest proposal to support the forum team on: June 04, 2021, 12:57:29 PM
As for the moderators, we get payments periodically from the forum which theymos facilitates. If you want to personally thank a staff user, then you can always contact them, and see if they would be willing to accept a donation. I'd personally feel a little weird though, since we are already given something for our job, and most of us quite like keep the place clean.

There's far better ways to contribute that donating to the staff in my opinion. A one off donation isn't likely to have a great impact on their motivation, however reporting more frequently is something which contributes to the forum overall rather than individuals. At the end of the day, the moderators are mostly handling reports which have been reported by the community. Without the community, the moderators wouldn't be as efficient. So, I'd like to see something that rewards the community overall for contributing. This is why I was in support with the badges which were proposed a while ago, as it would provide a small recognition for those that put in the time, and effort to make this place a little cleaner, without actually cutting out the larger workforce, since it is achievable by anyone, i.e a donation fund for just staff would be not recognizing the hard work some of the community do to report.

3246  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Boxing] Floyd Mayweather vs. Logan Paul - June 6 on: June 04, 2021, 10:16:05 AM
Logan is a big dude, if only he actually trained as serious as his brother. The guy is clearly built for sport. If he could learn to throw, and throw with that sort of tenacity that's needed for boxing he could be a dangerous man inside that ring.

And Floyd has admitted already that he doesn't care about his legacy, so even if he losses he will get a lot of money and could make excuses after excuses, i.e this is just an exhibition match.
I'm not sure I can believe Floyd with that though. Otherwise, surely this would have not been an exhibition match if he didn't care? Logan Paul has fought professionally before, so its not like the commission would reject him from fighting again. There's been plenty of times that Floyd, and other boxers have fought lesser fighters, and gave them an absolute mauling. Plus, just look at how Floyd represents himself, all he cares about is his image, and how he looks. Surely, he cares about the MAYWEATHER legacy, if not his own personal one.

3247  Economy / Speculation / Re: Elon musk, Jeff bezos and Bill gates manipulating the market on: June 04, 2021, 10:09:11 AM
To be fair, the OP might not have any proof of the allegations, and they are quite possibly fabricated in their mind, however millionaires, and billionaires often manipulate things for their gain, so while it might not be true in this case, we should be aware that the power of the world will actively look to better the market for themselves, and might not actually care about the longevity of the technology.

Unless you've been extremely lucky, I don't believe any billionaire has become a billionaire without exploiting or manipulating their way there.
3248  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The fall from 65k to $30k was the best thing to ever happen to Bitcoin on: June 04, 2021, 10:06:55 AM
When bitcoin drops in price, long term holders get to scoop up more bitcoin at cheaper prices, whereas people who are planning on selling(for whatever reason) loses an amount of potential profit.
It might sound greedy, but I actually want the Bitcoin price to fall in the short term, and stay there for a while. It allows people like you, and me who might believe in the currency more in the long term, to actually maximize our holdings. So, I actually warmly welcome these drops any time they happen, and I imagine certain types of traders also do too, as it means they can buy in bulk, and profit later down the line.

Obviously, there are people like you say, that get hurt by the drops, but that is usually because they make the choice to sell at that point. They could, potentially wait until Bitcoin starts to rise again (assuming it will of course).
3249  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: June 04, 2021, 10:01:59 AM
recently come across 'Risk-Free' Bet for upcoming main event ( israel vs vettori ) , totally free money .. right ? as if israel lose in TKO , submission or any other ways , we sitll get our $50 back
I haven't looked into this current offer being offered, but generally when betting sites offer certain free bets, you can match a bet on a betting exchange, which would guarantee that you profit. The longer the odds the better. Research "Matched betting" it can see quite complex at first, but is actually quite easy to pull off. Also, its completely legal, although if caught by a betting website they might suspend your account.

I am now waiting for the weigh-in to surely see his full body because I could not see his lower body in the interview, and if he sure loses weight then maybe his punching power is lessened or maybe his speed has improve but I don't know, Still betting for Sakai because I really want to risk this because just like you I also have a gut feeling about this.
Yeah, I tend not to put too much weight, on the actual weigh ins or how they conduct themselves in the press conference. I've done it before, and usually it means nothing. Even recently with Ferguson I thought he looked good leading up to the fight with Dariush, and that didn't turn out all too well. The only time which I actually consider the weigh in is when someone misses weight, as that usually indicates a bad weight cut, and they couldn't quite do it.
3250  Other / Meta / Re: Is it time to increase the Emojis ? on: June 04, 2021, 09:55:48 AM
I'm with the opinion that Emoji's are for messaging platforms, rather than a discussion based platform.

The speed the forum loads if this happens ↘️.
If users had the common courtesy of reducing them to tolerable sizes, then it wouldn't be too bad. I imagine a lot of users here already block images, and scripts on this forum.
3251  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Boxing] Floyd Mayweather vs. Logan Paul - June 6 on: June 03, 2021, 11:06:24 PM
That's a shame if Mayweather will lose to a Youtuber at an exhibition match.
So I am certain, this fight will be on his favor. Will only watch free streaming.
Not worth to pay for this match. Sportsbooks already removed this from their list.
About couple of days and let's have some fun watching this episode.
Wouldn't be the end of the world. Floyd keeps his unbeaten record on paper, and the rest of the world gets to laugh at Mayweathers expense. Floyd could then say that it was because he didn't take it seriously, due to it being an exhibition match, which more would probably believe.

I can't believe its a pay per view event. I haven't really looked at the rest of the card, but I know the last Youtube fight was an absolute joke of a card.
3252  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: June 03, 2021, 11:03:34 PM
Good conclusion with picking Rozenstruik I am pretty not sure who to pick between the two so I have gone to the Sakai who is not in favor with the odds and settle a risky bet on him,
When in doubt I always see go with the longest odds, if you absolutely want to bet on the fight. I do have a good feeling with Rozenstruik even if I do believe it will be a late round knockout if it is to come. As mentioned above, a rather slow starter, but I do think he has the power to get it done within the rounds. I might even put a 3rd round Knockout bet down depending on the odds.
3253  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcoin is taking over (A graphical Illustration) on: June 03, 2021, 09:33:32 AM
I beg to differ here, Bitcoin may already be known worldwide but it is yet to attain global adoption yet. If we are to consider the diffusion of innovation model, which is a theory about how new inventions are adopted by the society, and it has five distinct categories;
Plus, I believe its highly unlikely this will happen anytime soon. Global adoption is something which requires not only time, but the right sequence of events to happen. However, there is still a somewhat negative stigma around Bitcoin, for example its used by criminals, or its too volatile, and the most recent one being its not good for the environment because miners, and the Proof Of Work isn't great in terms of energy usage.

As we know from Edward Bernays, propaganda might just be the most powerful method of actually preventing Bitcoin from adoption, and unless we counteract that with some equally powerful propaganda its not likely to be adopted by the masses.
3254  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Cookies in broswers on: June 03, 2021, 09:28:41 AM
If your concerned about privacy, almost every website on the internet has some sort of cookies. Some by legal requirements (i.e to comply with GDPR regulations) or simply to make your browsing of their website more streamlined, and personal to you. However, if you are concerned about your privacy when it comes to Bitcoin, I would recommend a wallet like Bitcoin Core, on a computer that you don't use to browse. That's really the only way of doing it, by compartmentalizing your system. Although, a hardware wallet could achieve the same, although do note that they likely require their own set of cookies.
3255  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: June 03, 2021, 09:24:41 AM
I'm so glad we've got some UFC back this weekend. Here's my main predictions for it:

Jairzinho Rozenstruik by knockout
Marcin Tybura by knockout
Roman Dolidze by decision
Tom Breese by decision

I do think there will be quite a few knockouts this weekend looking at the card. Although, I'm not quite sure which way it will go for a lot of the fights. I'll probably post another set of predictions  for the rest of the fights leading up to Saturday.
3256  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [ BOXING POLL ADDED ] JOSHUA vs USYK on: June 03, 2021, 09:20:46 AM
Also, Usyk while definitely having a chance here in this fight, has the better odds if your looking for value of money. I've got Usyk at 2.75 while Joshua was something like 1.40, which in my opinion is far to wide considering the opposition, and record of Usyk.

I might go for Usyk by decision. There will likely be a few Joshua knockdowns, but I believe Usyk will be able to out point him with what I consider his superior boxing, and might just be able to get some knockdowns himself.
3257  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [ BOXING POLL ADDED ] JOSHUA vs USYK on: June 02, 2021, 10:58:48 AM
Plus Usyk is a Southpaw which is a natural weakness of an Orthodox fighter so Joshua needs to be extra careful about it since Usyk isn't just any fighter and he will do what it takes to keep his record clean. I just hope that we will see a really good fight in this one because I haven't seen one for awhile except for Oubaali vs Donaire.
I'm expecting a few knockdowns, but I also think if Joshua is caught, and knocked down then I think Usyk will dominate from then on out, and possibly end the night early. I'm really hoping for an absolute war which goes into the later rounds though. At least if that happens I'll feel a little bit better about the Joshua vs Fury fight being postponed for a later date.

I am slightly wanting Usyk to take this home though, which could ruin that fantasy about Fury VS Joshua or at least take a bit of the hype away from it.
3258  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Boxing] Floyd Mayweather vs. Logan Paul - June 6 on: June 02, 2021, 10:41:54 AM
Looking at some of the footage that Logan put out, he looks like he's quite lazy with his strikes, and drops his hands after firing them. Which makes me think that Logan probably isn't going to get a chance to catch Mayweather. Although, I am routing for Logan, and might just put a small bet on him for the fun of it. Honestly, I thought the odds would be more extreme, but there you go.
3259  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: May 31, 2021, 10:27:45 PM
Jon Jones is the best fighter we have seen and no one will have a debate about that, Jon Jones is in a position where he fights whenever he likes and it has everything to do with the personal issues he had in the past. Anderson Silva and GSP was the fight everyone wanted to see but that never happened and there is no way Anderson Silva would pose any challenge to Jon Jones even in his prime and Jon Jones had a strong line of challengers in his division and it was one of the toughest division when he was the champion.
One of the very top fighters no doubt, but I'm sure there are arguments, and people who would argue that he isn't the best of all time. Khabib, I think rightfully deserves to be in the argument, despite maybe not having the most pleasing stand up game.

I do believe GSP would have a shout for being one of the best too. However, Jon Jones might just take that if you were to pit them against each other.
3260  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: May 28, 2021, 09:26:34 PM
To be honest, I'm not to bothered if Jon Jones doesn't care about the sport. I mean, if we look at Conor Mcgregor he's not exactly an advocate for loving the UFC. In fact, it does seem like a lot of the bigger fighters are actually hostile to Dana.

What I care about is good fights, and I know Jon might be considered a legend by many, I just don't think he will bring good fights to the current division. The last few fights he was in were....not great. Unfortunately, he's not a fighter we really remember for great fights, he's become to the guy we remember for being controversial. Don't get me wrong, a great fighter. I just don't know, maybe I'm a little bias.
