1881  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Hardware wallet vs software wallet for daily transaction on: April 21, 2022, 10:47:55 PM
Price is now more expensive for Safepal than image is showing, and I don't consider it safe at all, you can't even verify what is hidden in those encrypted QR codes they generate.
Not to mention how they stole GPL open source code and made it proprietary, and later they got busted by Kraken team long time, but they are simply ignoring this.
You can read Kraken report here and Safepal reply in this post, and my point is that Safepal has some serious security flaws and there is a reason why they are the cheapest wallet you can find.
Not to mention that the image also seems a marketing ploy. I'm not sure where the image has come from exactly, and who's behind it. However, using the green coloured font, to try, and push it being better in almost every way, is a little suspect. Especially, considering the things they've already been caught for.

If you do want a hardware wallet, you want to be using a company with integrity, and for me SafePal aren't that, and pretty much any other alternative out of the big three would be better solely based on that.
1882  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How does the IRS look at anonymous bitcoin? on: April 21, 2022, 10:26:27 PM
Due to needing to keep records, it would probably be recommended that despite dealing with someone in person, you should probably still go through a peer to peer exchange, so at least you can keep a record of it. Print that record that the exchange provides, and submit that to the tax authority. What they accept is up to them, but I should think that would probably be enough.

You could potentially even include in your reference that you sent from your bank, the amount of Bitcoin bought, and at what price. Then, your bank would keep that reference, and you could potentially prove it that way. I mean if you're in doubt, contact them directly, and see what evidence they would require in this particular instance.
1883  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What can we do to speed up Bitcoin mass adoption? on: April 21, 2022, 10:22:38 PM
There's more and more legal friction in the form of red tape for on and off-ramps for BTC<->fiat currency exchanges so not sure how the future is going to look like. Same even goes for any entities ever handling bitcoins on behalf of others, transferring them, other uses, etc. Frankly speaking, I see a bleak future for any adoption unrelated to HODLing (which in itself is great, but I had higher expectations for Bitcoins' future) or gambling at exchanges/DeFi/whatever at this point. And the time for some serious lobbying passed years ago (not sure if it would've worked out anyway...).
I used to think that Bitcoin had the potential to possibly be useful as a general currency, but as you suggested the amount of legal work required to be able to do that, is quite frankly unsustainable. The world is becoming less private, and the amount of data you're required to give to companies now is increasing. KYC is now a massive thing, and is very much a legal requirement in most countries.

I've changed my mind somewhat recently, that the main purpose of Bitcoin will likely be more of a reserve currency than a traditional currency, due to the reasons you mentioned. Bitcoin will be seen as a way of escaping the rat race, in the long term.
1884  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: "Behind closed doors, EU officials talk about banning Bitcoin" on: April 21, 2022, 10:17:57 PM
Means nothing, a lot of them probably talk about all sorts of outlandish crap behind the scenes, in fact they talk about it quite openly to the public too Cheesy.

With a bit of luck, the debate is past that, although it goes to show how some brilliant minds work.
Probably isn't. I mean you only have to take this into consideration to know that there will be certain people within which will be pushing this idea, and therefore there will likely be quite a few meetings about this in the future, which will likely have an effect on adoption. Although, it will likely effect investors confidence in the short term, I do believe these types of meetings might just bring more eyes on Bitcoin, which could potentially be of benefit to us.

I don't think they'll ever be able to justify banning it.
1885  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Concern of illegal use of crypto on: April 21, 2022, 10:12:20 PM
Look, we'll always have this criticism even though Bitcoin is, and will remain so in the future; more transparent than cash. It seems daft to me to criticism Bitcoin so much on the one hand, because of the illegal activities that occur with it, but then on the other hand give cash the benefit of the doubt. If we looked at the ratio of crime funded via currencies, cash would likely be leading. Although, that headline doesn't exactly grab the attention of people, so of course Bitcoin being the new emerging currency, but at the same time a technology a lot of people don't quite understand, that headline grabs the attention of the most people.

There's nothing we can do about it, it'll always be the case. Just got to ignore it, and carry on. Obviously, crime does occur with Bitcoin, but not any more so than fiat. That's the truth of it, and my argument would be at least with Bitcoin there's a public ledger, which should deter criminals from using it.
1886  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [ BOXING POLL ADDED ]: FURY vs WHYTE - CONFIRMED on: April 21, 2022, 10:06:54 PM
Usyk left Ukraine to prepare for the rematch against Joshua. It is definitely going ahead, it will not be postponed.
Oh really? I thought the only news sources reporting on this was the Mirror, and S*n which I'll be honest I just took it lightly. If that's true, that's an interesting chain of events.

He probably will not retire until he unifies the belts and becomes undisputed heavyweight champion and defends the belts at least once.
Not sure if he'll defend the belts. He's 33 years old, they generally fight once a year at most. So, by the time this process kicks into gear, whoever the winner of the Usyk vs Joshua will be looking for a fight in 2023/2024, while Fury would have been out of action for a while by then, so would likely need another fight in between then, and now.

Although, to be honest I'm not sure I need him to defend the belt. I just want to see that one fight, we've been waiting for years.

I will be watching the fight because I want to see if Fury still has the hunger to unify the belts. If Whyte loses badly then he will probably have to retire but he will have enough energy at least in the first few rounds to match Fury but overall he does not have many backing him because technically he is too inferior a boxer to Fury.
I remembered it was in Wembley, so the timing should suit me. I'll likely watch since I won't be doing anything else at that time. Thought it was going to clash with the UFC, as that's usually the case. Whyte has power, but Fury should be able to avoid that since he's definitely a lot slower than Wilder.
1887  Economy / Collectibles / Re: Help w/ Casacius Coin - Value, Selling Process, etc. on: April 21, 2022, 10:02:24 PM
Absolutely will echo the need for a escrow here, not only because you're new, but it protects everyone, as well as adding an additional verification step in the process. A escrow who is knowledgable in collectible coins such as yours, will know how to identify if it was fake, and if it has been redeemed etc, so it gives the potential buyer some reassurance.

The problem is that your account is quite new without reputation and you should always use a new escrow, like MJ.
Not a new escrow ideally, someone with a decent history Tongue.
1888  Other / Meta / Re: Bumping old threads and spamming on: April 21, 2022, 09:51:05 PM
I know it feels like a tedious process, and one that isn't acted upon quick enough. However, reporting these sort of things is better for the moderator handling it since they also have a on site record, which they can check or if it's a particular section, will become familiar with users doing this.

Nothing against you OP but the irony is you're feeding one such necro-posters lol I saw them necroposting and I instantly reported the post and it got deleted (while your post is still there)
Generally, if these types of posts are reported also, they get deleted. Sometimes us moderators can miss the posts which quoted the post previously deleted or we simply don't have the permissions ourselves, although then ideally they should report it themselves then. So, if you ever notice that feel free to report it.

Although, the act of replying to someone who's necroposting isn't a massive deal, most users don't check the date before replying so it's easily done.
1889  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: [Guide] How to run a Bitcoin Core full node for under 50 bucks! on: April 21, 2022, 09:46:55 PM
Sadly I am still three years behind. I don't run my computer 24/7. But, Whenever I run, I let the core download the blocks. Meanwhile, I moved my Bitcoin into an Atomic wallet.
If you aren't running it 24/7, then you might want to consider running a pruned node instead. At least that'll be a reduction in local disk space needed. Otherwise, you'll likely be catching up for a while every day that you restart it. Especially, if you have a slow internet connection.

it can take a few days up to a week on bad connections or low-end hardware, but just let it run in the background, it shouldn't affect your overall system performance at all.
Yeah it shouldn't effect computer performance, but depending on their network could potentially make it absolutely awful to use that network while it does download. Depending on the network speed, and how fast they're downloading the Blockchain of course.
1890  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🥊 The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: April 21, 2022, 09:44:48 PM
I think I will watch some heavyweight boxing this weekend with Tyson Fury fighting against Dillian Whyte, but I am not sure exact timing when both events are starting, so maybe I can watch both of them.
For anyone who likes free bets Sportsbet and jeremypwr have nice competition with free bet rewards, and check out my Championship comeptition:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5395286.0
I do believe it's being hosted in England, so the event will be early. So, even if the UFC is on earlier this week (I haven't checked) you should still be able to catch the majority of it hopefully. The boxing should be on around 10-11pm UK time I believe. So, UFC events even when they start early the main card goes into the early hours in the UK. So, the main event should be safe. I usually like to split screen them when possible, as quite a few big events have clashed.
1891  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🥊 The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: April 21, 2022, 09:33:55 PM
I'll probably watch the event, as it probably will be a competitive night, I just won't be betting on it. Too many variables, and I don't have enough information other than old tapes, and some of the fighters don't really have a lot of tape to watch either.

I always forget to chuck my predictions in the games, and rounds thread. Hopefully I remember by the end of the week, since I've learned my lessons about predicting to early with all the drops outs, and step ins.

Now, I know this is not directly related with UFC, but this is what happens when you are trying to piss of Mike Tyson in plane Smiley
Tyson, Ngannou, and well pretty much every Heavyweight in the UFC you definitely don't want to be pissing off. Braver than me if you choose to do so.
1892  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Sportsbet.io's English Premier League Football Pool Discussion Thread on: April 21, 2022, 09:29:13 PM
I know Maguire is not the only reason why United is this bad but he is sort of the one inviting the jokes on his expanse. Like he is going out of his way to look ridiculous in the game. That kick to Pogba head was state of the art.
He's English, so there's a little extra banter to be heard about it, since obviously banter is a very British thing. Also, he does some pretty comical things at times. Honestly, he kind of reminds me of Phil Jones. Obviously, the biggest thing for Maguire is he cost so much, and has delivered nothing up to this point. At least Phil Jones wasn't a massive transfer.

Maguire isn't terrible though, he's Premier League quality, but definitely isn't suited for a top four team. He did a good job at Leicester, and I think would still do a good job at a similar level.
1893  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [ BOXING POLL ADDED ]: FURY vs WHYTE - CONFIRMED on: April 21, 2022, 05:55:09 PM
Surely, since Usyk I believe is currently in Ukraine fighting for his country, surely the most logical thing to do now would be to put that fight on the back burner, since we don't know exactly when he'll return, and set up the Fury vs Joshua fight, assuming that Fury beats Whyte on the weekend. I know Fury has said he's retiring, and for those that are taking that serious, it might just be a plan to try, and make the above happen, since we've all wanted that fight.

Usyk could actually then get the opportunity to beat Joshua on the rematch with belts in his hands. Even if I don't personally believe Fury is retiring yet, he hasn't got an awful amount of time ahead of him, at least at his peak. So, I don't see the match makers making these two fights in the next couple of years, since in boxing they're notoriously slow at it. This might be the best route for all fighters given the current circumstances.

Also, I probably won't be watching this fight, but I'm expecting Fury to win it without any issues. Probably finishes Whyte too given his age, and lack of stamina. Although, I could easily see it going to a decision win by Fury too, depends on the route he wants to take.
1894  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Making e-sports more affordable on: April 21, 2022, 03:47:47 PM
Honestly, I think it's one of the reasons that the popular game Rocket League became free to play, since esports is a big thing for not only bringing in money from sponsorships for the teams participating, but it also brings eyes on the game for a lot longer than it would without esports.

The most popular games which happen to have a massive viewership via Esports is also the ones which are free to play. I don't think that's by accident.
1895  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Sportsbet.io's English Premier League Football Pool Discussion Thread on: April 21, 2022, 03:43:08 PM
So did you take the 4-0 correct score on this game? totally spot on for this one
Yeah, had it in an accumulator, which was for like 300k or something stupid like that. The annoying part is, the rest of the bet nearly came in. I had Man City - Brighton being 0 - 0 at half time, but I did have Chelsea either winning or a draw. That doesn't surprise me though, because whatever I bet when it involves Chelsea the opposite always bloody happens.

That Hannibal guy was lucky not to get sent off as well. It was his fault when they conceded the last goal as well, though shitty Maguire probably should take most of the blame for passing it to him whilst under-pressure. He didn't have much time to do anything before a Liverpool player was hounding him.
I thought so, and another foul probably would have meant he would have been. Although, I did notice the commentators were sort of congratulating him on it because it showed he cared. To be honest, I don't agree all I saw was a kid looking to put the pressure on, and horribly at that. He didn't win it, and wasn't close too. Any other game, and that becomes a liability.

Although, I definitely do agree that Maguire invites a lot of pressure on his teammates in general.
1896  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🥊 The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: April 21, 2022, 03:38:45 PM
Thinking of just putting out some predictions, however I probably won't be betting on anything this weekend. Not liking the look of the card, and I'm not too familiar with a lot of the fighters. Thinking of saving my money for the coming weeks.

^  Yup same..  And I think the UFC would make a match for the winner as interim champion since Ngannou is still recovering from his knee surgery.  Dana White is trying to leverage that interim belt to make sure Ngannou stays in line and fights or he'll be stripped off his title.  Ngannou is undergoing a contract dispute with the UFC.
I think the UFC will be the ones to cave, since I believe they need him more than he might need them. Ngannou definitely has some leverage going into boxing, and while he might not make it anywhere big, he would probably make a lot more money. So, I guess it depends on his goals. Whether he wants to carve out a legacy or bring in as much money as possible for his family.
1897  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Sportsbet.io's English Premier League Football Pool Discussion Thread on: April 19, 2022, 09:39:24 PM
Would have been the easiest money I've ever earned, but I didn't have time to check the line ups, and I had bloody Jota to score one didn't I, along with a bet builder which was a 56.00 bet. Everything else came in, but Jota scoring off course. My fault, I should have looked at the starting line ups, and changed my bet. I made the best a day before to be fair assuming that Jota would be in before Diaz, and then use Diaz against a tired Man Utd defense.

Anyway, what can I say this is probably one of the only times I've not been nervous facing Man Utd, usually form doesn't matter, but there's something seriously wrong in that dressing room, and it certainly isn't quality. I'm not sure what the way back is for them, and I honestly can't say who should be managing them.
1898  Other / Meta / Re: Monthly Report Statistics on: April 18, 2022, 01:41:07 PM
Unhandled reports might be revisited, since if the mod clicks ignore on a report, then that only ignores it for them. So, another moderator might see it in their report queue, and decide to act upon it. Although, once the period for displaying the report in queues is gone, then yeah unhandled reports aren't revisited, unless they're reported again in the future. As far as I know, if that happens, and it is then handled at a later date, it doesn't correct the initial report that was marked as unhandled. Although, I can't say I've ever monitored that, I'm just going on a logical assumption.

So, there's two ways of not handling a report. Either ignoring it (clicking "ignore" which removes it from your report queue) or by just ignoring it without actually clicking ignore, if that makes sense. So, the latter example would be not taking any action at all, whereas clicking ignore is technically an action which only really effects your report queue not anyone else's.

I'm still not sure what you meant when you said that some cases are best left unhamdled
I've been meaning to do a detailed write up on my reporting effectively thread on when unhandled reports are actually the logical way of handling a report. Just haven't got around to it yet. It's on my to do list for this year Cheesy.
1899  Other / Meta / Re: Old design pros on: April 18, 2022, 01:34:15 PM
The user experience is probably one of the best, focused on content, rather than fancy design. Although, when it comes to customising PHP, it can be a massive ball ache, especially if it's not implemented brilliantly. So, while the user experience might be decent, when it comes to customising the code, things will take a lot longer than they would if we were using a more modern language. I guess that's one of the drawbacks.

I kinda got used to using it on my phone. I can understand it's problematic for reading a few pages of text but apart from that I think it's just something you can get used to (though maybe your point was you shouldn't really have to).
I've only ever used it on a temporary account made for when I was travelling, and the combination of terrible network connection, and the general usability on a phone was absolutely infuriating at times. For reading it's fine, but when it comes to actually editing posts or making posts that's when the usability really does annoy you.
1900  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🥊 The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: April 18, 2022, 12:22:44 PM
I can't figure out if Luque has bad TD defense or if Muhammad has excellent timing on his TD's...  I think it's more like the former imho and it cost him...  A lot.  It sucks cos I placed him up at the second tier of my lottery ticket.
Terrible take down defense paired with a decent ability to take down by Belal. I can't say I'm overly surprised, but I'm not convinced that Belal will challenge for anything meaningful. I find him quite one dimensional, and think he gets taken out by the big boys. I haven't got anything against him he just doesn't come across as a personality, and his fighting doesn't do enough to make me a fan of him.

Maybe, Luque just had a off day, but he made quite a few mistakes leading to the take downs which were easily avoided. I do think this was a prime example of being cautious of the take down, therefore not letting his hands go, and in evidently being taken down, and grind out to a decision loss.
