2821  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How to make a popular auction? on: August 24, 2021, 11:42:47 AM
Rank shouldn't really have any bearing on reputation, at least from a trading point of view. The thing is; your auction is a rather niche market, and therefore you'll find that it'll be harder to sell than, other more popular items. There's ways you can improve the amount of eyes seeing your auction, but that's mainly through traditional marketing techniques. As for on the forum, the only way you can advertise your auction would be posting the auction in the auction section which you've already done, and potentially advertising the fact that you've got a on going auction in your signature, and/or personal text.
2822  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum on Android on: August 24, 2021, 11:39:55 AM
I can't with good conscious recommend using a wallet on any mobile device that isn't running a custom operating system. Google, and Apple have far too many closed sourced pieces in their software, and that's a privacy concern, regardless whether the applications work or not. Mobile phones are also increasingly being targeted for malware, and in some instances they can be easier to attack, because of the way users use their phone.

However, for your question; the app will have both software, and hardware limitations. Some software isn't optimised for certain hardware, even though it might be exceeding the minimum hardware requirements. As a developer, it's impossible to test your software for every piece of hardware out there so they will rely on bug reports, and app diagnostics.
2823  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ⚽ English Premier League Season: 2021/2022 on: August 24, 2021, 11:34:12 AM
I do love it when a team that has been written off this season, starts proving the doubters wrong. Everyone thought that the West Ham form last season was an anomaly, but if you look at their squad, then they've got some real players in it. If they were to make a few transfers in key positions, probably center back being the priority I could see them challenging again for top six.
2824  Other / Meta / Re: What do you think of the Bitcoin Discussion section? Does he need to change? on: August 22, 2021, 07:52:07 PM
This has been over the last 24 hours. Every one of his 12 threads is text spun plagiarism and zero value trash. This board needs a dedicated mod to stop users like this before they gain traction.
In this case; a newbie posting these types of posts, there should be enough patrollers to deal with it. The issue is likely with higher ranks, that would justify a dedicated moderator. Assuming that global moderators are overwhelmed or not going through the section, and cleaning it up a little bit.

Those should be considered as topics spamming, I hope most if not all will be deleted soon. 12 topics in just less than a day. Maybe the person is doing it thinking it will earn him merit, or doing it for recognition, I just do not understand.
The user was text spinning from articles elsewhere. The text spinning was fairly decent at avoiding most searches, however ultimately wasn't good enough to avoid being nuked.
2825  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Sportsbet.io's English Premier League Football Pool Discussion Thread on: August 22, 2021, 02:57:49 PM
Not the greatest round for me, my fault for relying on Manchester United Wink. Liverpool on the other hand have been brilliant for me, scoring me maximum points for their game both weeks. I might need to start watching some of the other teams in the Premier League to actually get a little closer on the scores. I thought Manchester United's hype after the Leeds game was unwarranted.
2826  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: August 20, 2021, 04:40:12 PM
Here's my predictions for the weekend:

Palatnikov (TKO)
Roberts (decision)
Knight (decision)
Nunes (decision)
Kelleher (TKO)
Gastelum (decision)

All of the rest of the fights I'm avoiding like other plague, I think there's quite a few problematic fights in there for the favourites, and I can see quite a few shocking finishes for the underdogs. Staying away from a betting perspective. The only ones I have on my accumulator from above is Gastelum for the decision, and then Knight for the decision. Knight might get the finish though.
2827  Other / Meta / Re: Do You Believe a New Forum Software Will Attract More Users to Bitcointalk? on: August 20, 2021, 04:33:40 PM
But once everyone realizes that Bitcointalk has turned a new page, they are likely to accept it. Assuming, of course, that the new forum is indeed better than what we have now.
Yeah, to me there's not much new innovative things that you can add to a forum. I think its probably based on the suitability to the team behind it for modifications. Building it on a new language is probably the best thing to come from this, like I said PHP is a nuisance. Looking at the specifications its mostly just quality of life things, and what this forum already has. However, it should at least be easy to tinker, and add functionality to in the future if necessary.
2828  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread 2021/2022 on: August 20, 2021, 02:51:53 PM
Southampton vs Manchester United will be a goal rushing tie. A very easy game for the Red Devils. They’ve shown how prepared they are after acquiring Raphael varane and Sancho. Their performance against Leeds United with Paul Pogba grabbing four assists and with five goals was convincing enough to show how ruthless they’ll be this season. I don’t see Southampton wining or even pulling up with a draw.
Do note that Manchester United played just as well, and scored nearly as much as they did this season, as they did last. While I do think Manchester United will be better this year, I don't think one result can be indicative on just how well they might perform. Especially, when Varane hasn't played for them yet, and Sancho had very limited play time. Paul Pogba will be vital to their success, and it's probably a good thing that PSG signed Messi, because I do believe there was rumours going around that Paul Pogba could potentially seal a move to PSG.

Southampton on the other hand have lost important players, that really did patch over their vulnerabilities. I actually think they might be in for a battle for relegation this season.
2829  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Question about bitcoins I mined long ago on: August 20, 2021, 02:40:00 PM
They only mined two blocks and never payout miners for mining on their pool.
So it's gone forever.
According to that post they mined 2 blocks in 3 months, however they go on to say that they were reputable previously so they potentially did payout before that 3 months or at least on blocks they mined prior. However, that thread is inconclusive, as it seems that the pool had issues even when it was operating with several users complaining about the owner.

It was bitcoinpool for sure . I have the emails still and I know the public address so I have been able to check and see the .75 BTC. It was quite easy at that time to mine.
You could read through the thread linked above, I've taken a quick look, but it doesn't seem like anything that would be useful to you is posted there. Unfortunately, it looks like you'll never retrieve those coins.

Their website, and forum is down. I doubt there's anyone left to contact. Seems the OP of this, and this thread was a part of Bitcoinpool. Might be worth giving them a message since they've been active as recently as of today.
2830  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Basic Bitcoin skills on: August 20, 2021, 02:33:05 PM
If your going to become your own bank, and will be responsible for your money, without any third party stepping in to save you if you make a mistake. Your probably going to want to learn about securing your Bitcoin, but also having good security practices in general. Depending on your usage, you might want to learn general computer security if you intend on running a hot wallet or just learning about common Bitcoin security if you intend on running your wallet offline.

If you are running a hot wallet, then I suggest securing your system from the bottom right to the top. Think securing your browser, changing your browsing habits so that you aren't putting your system at increased risk. For example, don't download software which you don't trust the vendor that is distributing it. Physically isolate or virtually compartmentalise your system if possible. There's no real one place for learning this sort of stuff so you'll have to be prepared to search it up on your own. Ubuntu, or Linux tutorials are generally pretty good at teaching you how a computer functions, and the things that you can do to enhance the security of your computer.

For example, Linux teaches you about chmod; basically access, and writing permissions which many Windows users don't even think about. Then, you could potentially take some courses in Cisco, and CompTia if you really want to brush up on your skills. Though, most of these skills can be learned from free resources.
2831  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How to avoid cryptocurrency transaction Error. on: August 20, 2021, 02:23:07 PM
I think that hardware wallets play a very big role here because they actually force us to confirm everything that is important before approving the transaction - although this can be a bit problematic on some HW that does not show the entire coin address at once, but in parts - example.
Kind of; they're still susceptible to most of the pitfalls users make though. For example, a hardware wallet prompts you that you want to send x amount to Y address, but how many users confirm that the address is character by character correct? Probably not many, some are probably more drawn to the amount they are sending. What's annoying about hardware wallets is they generally have quite small connectors (USB), and if you wanted to check side by side on your computer screen, and the screen of the hardware wallet, you couldn't because it's to small. Every time you look away from your computer screen to your hardware wallet screen your increasing your chances of making a mistake.

For example, if you had an address which has Zz in the address right next to each other, but you look away while checking, you could mistake that lower case z as the Z you've already typed, basically only putting one Z instead of two Zz.
2832  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Beware: Another type of hacker's trap on: August 20, 2021, 02:18:48 PM
Now every time when I need to download any file, I use https://www.virustotal.com/gui/home/upload to scan those files or websites. This website is the best.
I also suggest everyone, Before downloading any file from the unknown source/internet trying to use Virustotal. It is very helpful for you.
VirusTotal is okay. It's good for some quick checking, without having to actually install any software on your device. However, it's not entirely accurate, and shouldn't be relied on. You shouldn't be downloading any attachment that you aren't expecting, and can't verify with the person sending it. Also, you shouldn't be downloading any software on the internet without verifying it came from the official source. Even then, you have to ask yourself if you actually trust the vendor serving you that file.

Any sophisticated hacker would likely be able to code around TotalVirus detection though. Though, most of them don't target the likes of me, and you. Instead, we are mainly targeted by script kiddies i.e people using other peoples scripts, which are generally known among anti virus software, and TotalVirus.
2833  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Boxing] Jake Paul vs. Tyron Woodley on: August 20, 2021, 02:13:07 PM
Tyron seems a different person when it comes to the actual match. He' isn't that aggressive but he knows how to create a good defense against his opponent. Jake Paul as for me js too aggressive that it seems like he's panicking sometimes. I guess Jake Paul still needs to control his punches and throw them in perfect timing.
Tyron can definitely be aggressive. His defensive movement isn't the greatest, he slips moves decently well, but he's susceptible to upper cuts, which we know Jake Paul likes to throw. Both of the Paul brothers have demonstrated decent technique with upper cuts. I do think Tyron will win, but it's much closer than I initially thought. I honestly was expecting Tyron to put him away within a few rounds, possibly the first. The thing is with Jake Paul we can't actually judge him on his boxing fights, because they have all lasted less for a few minutes, apart from that one fight with head guards against Deji. So, we have to rely on his sparring footage as there's a bit more of that.

Jake Paul is looking good in training at least, well the footage that they've released.
2834  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: August 20, 2021, 01:19:11 PM
I would completely agree with you...if this was 2007 Smiley Outside of certain fighters, the game has changed to where they are much more rounded and less weary of being taken to the deep end be it striking, BJJ or wrestling. Maybe Cannonier is not that guy, that we shall see, but for the most part, I think that's the landscape of current MMA.
I've definitely seen quite a few fights recently that ended up going the way I described. It's typical that none of their names are springing to my mind right now, but there has definitely been examples of this. The only thing with this fight is, I don't consider Kelvin a massive threat of a submission, this might impact how Cannonier reacts, but if Kelvin gets Cannonier down onto the mat, he likely isn't getting up without the help of the cage. This might cause Cannonier to drop his hands, trying to defend the take down, which then means his striking takes longer to land, and he's more prone to reacting to feints from Kelvin.

If I'm Kelvin I'd get Cannonier twitching by feinting take downs, and then when he's biting really hard, just go up top with a few fists, get him to respect the fists to the face, and then once he gets frustrated, and starts to over extent, that's when you go for a well timed take down. That's the game plan I would be walking into this fight with.
2835  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Boxing] Jake Paul vs. Tyron Woodley on: August 20, 2021, 01:15:08 PM
I'll be honest, I've watched some of the recent sparring footage both have put out, I hate judging things based on training videos, but Jake Paul is actually looking pretty decent, while Tyron woodley while never really been known for his defense looks a little lost in the ring. My problem with Tyron is in the UFC he was a very aggressive fighter, but from time to time he would sit on the cage, and explode off of it. Well, in his training videos he seems to be giving up the center of the ring to his sparring partner, and backing into the ropes. However, in boxing you can't use the ropes to explode off of them, and catch your opponent off guard.

Jake Paul might find some success by dominating the center of the ring, and then boxing Tyron in, and just picking his shots from a distance. I'm still going with Tyron, but I think I might have overestimated the difference between them.
2836  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread 2021/2022 on: August 20, 2021, 01:03:50 PM
Here's the games on my accumulator this weekend:

Liverpool 2-0
Newcastle
Manchester City clean sheet
Crystal Palace 2-1
Tottenham
Manchester United
Chelsea

Feeling pretty confident on the match predictions, but the correct scores are always hit, and miss. I feel like Crystal Palace could go a lot ways.

I was never fan of Ozil game. I admit he has soft touch and very good last pass but he just looks so uninterested on the pitch. I see him like a player who would be top 20 years ago, but nowadays everyone is so fit and players like Ozil are becoming extinct in top leagues. Should have been born earlier Smiley I believe there was not many Arsenal supporters sad to see him go, he was top 10 in the world per wages and nowhere near top 10 on the pitch in his last 2 Arsenal years. Could be wrong though, not like I am living in London.
He was an absolute baller when he first arrived. I don't know what went on behind the scenes, but he was sort of alienated from the first team, and well just kind of disappeared from existence. He did have some average seasons where he would disappear in games, but plenty of other top players do too, and they don't just disappear. I feel like a move away from the club a few years ago would have benefited him. He was definitely one of the top players once upon a time.

I was not talking about English tax, I was talking about generally very high prices for young English guys. If they were born in some other country, let's say Denmark, price would be 1/3 for the player of same quality. Stones was great last season but was he that good when City paid 70M for him to Everton? I remember bitching about how he was overpriced at that time.
Yeah, that was my fault for assuming you'd know what I meant by English tax; I don't mean literally the tax you pay on income/expenses I mean generally fans from the UK call the expensive transfer fees of English players to English teams; English Tax, because their price is inflated because of the homegrown status that clubs need to abide by. I believe it's 8 homegrown players? I can't remember the exact definition, but its easily searched. I believe it's players which have trained at a English club from certain ages that are then considered homegrown.
2837  Other / Meta / Re: Do You Believe a New Forum Software Will Attract More Users to Bitcointalk? on: August 20, 2021, 12:57:33 PM
It can take a lot of time and money to migrate to a new forum or forum software. Although it seems possible, but if users are given the option to stick with the old forum then I'm pretty sure bitcointalk.org will still have a large user base.
I don't think you will be given that option. If and when the new forum goes live and becomes completely functional, my expectation is that theymos would want everyone to migrate and use the new site. This forum would either be locked or deleted altogether. It wouldn't make sense having a divided community and some members posting on the old while others post on the new forum.
You could potentially sync them up, but that would just be overly complex. The thing is; everyone will hate the new forum software when it launches, then over time they'll likely prefer it. The truth is; despite my love for the simplicity of SMF it is outdated, and a lot of things could be streamlined especially by avoiding PHP whenever possible. The only problem with that is; SMF isn't exactly easy to modify. Plus, I'm assuming theymos' has been overseeing much of the development, and it can be coded to his exact specifications, which means it could be easier in the future.

The easier option would be to create a theme for the new forum software, which resembles this forum somewhat, but with the new features, and streamlined features incorporated into it. That would likely ease the transition, but as all humans tend to hate change, there will likely be a lot of users not liking the change at first.
2838  Other / Meta / Re: Bitcointalk Youtube channel - what would you like to see? on: August 20, 2021, 12:53:31 PM
This forum has, what, at least 500BTC in storage or something? That's astronomically more than enough money to hire people and jumpstart an official bitcointalk Youtube channel for say, $5000 a month in wages.
Yeah, at the moment though it doesn't seem theymos is designating forum funds as of yet per Cyrus' reply. Possibly waiting for results rather than investing in something that we don't actually know how many people would be interested in Bitcoin content.

If the channel were to get going and start generating advertising revenue I think this could also be a fairly cheap way to generate potentially viral content while promoting Bitcoin adoption at the same time.  Maybe some sort of fundraiser would help get things going.  When I wanted to help generate donations for NastyFans I started selling my own coins as a fundraiser and donating the proceeds.  Maybe a Bitcointalk YouTube Channel supporter coin or t-shirt or NFT or all of the above could be sold off to raise funds for exciting things like this.
Absolutely, it sounds ridiculous at the moment, but when sponsorships, and all that sort of stuff start flowing in, its quite ridiculous how much Youtubers actually earn. Obviously, starting off in the hardest part, but Cyrus seems to be investing in the right ways, i.e a crew to record. I like the supporter coin, in fact I liked the idea of the 10th anniversary coin, however that proved difficult. I even contacted a few coin manufacturers myself, and most were not interested or didn't reply. As for advertisements too; we could potentially offer a package deal where we advertise the service both on the forum, and on the Youtube channel, that obviously depends on if theymos wants to get involved, and how official the channel becomes.
2839  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: August 20, 2021, 08:42:39 AM
He doesn't have all that good of history with decisions in title fights, lost both of them (we are talking about 5 round fights, not 3), so that could be telling. I can't, for the life of me remember if it's because of his gas tank or what. However, Cannonier has never fought a fiver rounder to length so let's see who buckles first.
Cannonier is predominately a striker though, and as I've said previously when you match up a striker against a wrestler, it's usually the wrestler that does better. What you tend to see is the striker becomes so wary of the takedown, they stop throwing as much volume as they usually do, then sometimes you even seen the wrestlers out striker the strikers. He may have not done well in the past with decisions, but I do not see him knocking out Cannonier or even getting a finish against him, but for some reason my gut feeling is he's going to win this match up.

Although, I'm not trying to convince anyone to go for Kelvin. I mean the last few championship fights I've got wrong consecutively.
2840  Other / Meta / Re: Bitcointalk Youtube channel - what would you like to see? on: August 19, 2021, 09:16:20 PM
In the spirit of the “Yes Theory” YouTube channel, it might be cool to find someone from the forum and fly them somewhere out of the blue to experience something. Maybe surprise a veteran member and fly them to Bitcoin Beach and document the experience for the channel. I’m sure there are lots of Bitcoin places to see around the world and lots of forum members to take around. Traveling is also a lot cheaper than buying someone a house. Smiley
Fine. I'll volunteer to be the unfortunate soul that has an all expenses paid holiday in the Burj Al Arab hotel in Dubai Cheesy. In all seriousness, this would be cool, I think this would probably be more of a possibility if the channel was backed by forum funds though.

From those, Welsh (that I can remember) "fancied" the idea of mech items being produced, but I reckon that it may be something that can be harsh in the beginning - perhaps something mid-term ? If we outsource all the work (except art concepts) I'm sure it could prove to be a reasonable source of income for this project.
I wouldn't say I fancied them, I just brought up being surprised that no one had run with that idea yet, but also bringing it up in jest, because of how ludicrous some of those souvenirs were. Merchandise doesn't particularly interest me, generally. Unless, its something pretty cool. I've got a massive collection of weird cool stuff, but t-shirts, and stuff don't really interest me. Though, I know how popular merchandise can be, and how much people love it.
