You don't want to store your wealth in something that can and will be greated at will like the dollar

Gold, bitcoins, oil, a diversified portefolio are a better store of value; it is sad to see people working hard to accumulate something that will be worthless in a short while

I remember when this thread was first started.

I knew it was true, but I thought we had more time.

And dammit I miss Atlas!

Think about the utility of this ^^^ vs. having 30-40 micro sd cards with 10,000 BTC on each that can be stashed or instantly transferred anywhere.

or just store the private key encrypted in Google Drive

There's nothing wrong with borrowing to speculate in bitcoin as long as you are prepared to possibly pay off a dead horse. There is nothing wrong with speculation as it provides liquidity to the market. Speculators provide information and get paid for it when it is good information. They lose money when they provide bad information.

And dammit I miss Atlas!

He was a character.  Don't assume his actor isn't still here.

"The powers of financial capitalism had another far-reaching aim, nothing less than to create a world system of financial control in private hands able to dominate the political system of each country and the economy of the world as a whole. This system was to be controlled in a feudalist fashion by the central banks of the world acting in concert, by secret agreements arrived at in frequent meetings and conferences. The apex of the systems was to be the Bank for International Settlements in Basel, Switzerland, a private bank owned and controlled by the world's central banks which were themselves private corporations. Each central bank...sought to dominate its government by its ability to control Treasury loans, to manipulate foreign exchanges, to influence the level of economic activity in the country, and to influence cooperative politicians by subsequent economic rewards in the business world."

Mostly lazyness.  In another year I'll change it to a Rand Paul 2016 avatar.  I've met Rand, but not his father.  Really nice guy, and taller than he looks on tv.  I've also met Dennis Kucinich, who is also a fine fellow, but is much shorter than he appears on tv.

In fact, I've shaken the hands of several current and former politicos.  Not all of them struck me as fine people.  Have you ever had the feeling, upon meeting someone for the first time, of this strange sensation that you would be wise to never be in the presence of this person without witnesses?  I most certainly have, and most of the time this was when I was meeting either a politican for the first time, or a violent convict. One such person is the current US representative in my own district.  He gave me the creeps.

Ron Paul is a fantastic human being and a statesman in the most honourable sense of the word. The sad thing is, is that he is (was) just doing his job. He was performing as everyone who holds similar office SHOULD perform. The reason that he is lauded is because he was virtually the only one in Congress to have done his job properly. The whole world should be full of "Ron Pauls", but alas it is not. At least, those voices are not the loudest.

I've had the pleasure of talking to him and shaking his hand, and have met his son as well (before he became a political figure).
Several years ago, I advised Rand to run for Senate, and I'm certainly glad that he took my advice.

Grin

I'll go ahead and take credit for his (future) Presidency too, while I'm at it, just in case!

Like his father says "be careful; you just might win!"....

EDIT: and regarding Atlas - I would like to think that I would immediately recognize such a figure, if he were still here, but I wouldn't mind being wrong, just to have him around! He certainly made his mark here. Cheesy

By page 100, future readers will look back in envy at page 47. 'Those people owned a full bitcoin (or more!) and openly wrote about it like it was no big deal?? Why didn't I invest in those $500 coins?? I was such an idiot!'

By 2020, wars will be waged by nation states for sums equaling less than 1,000 BTC. The GDP of major powers such as the US will be approximately 10,000 BTC or less. So it goes to reason that an individual with merely one full coin will be on par in the arena of wealth with great rulers of the past such as Kubla Khan and modern tech moguls.

Night gathers, and now my bitcoinwisdom watch begins.

While I share your optimism, I find this hard to believe. The US gov't has a stash of over 140k BTC right now, right? Even if they sold all of it right now, the taxes they could accumulate in just one year if they let people pay taxes in BTC would be in the tens of thousands. That's too short of a timeframe and far too much optimism on the adoption rate, IMHO.

pretty dangerous, considering that due to some unfortunate events like a car accident or sth similar you
can lose part of your memory.

Fair enough. At what price will you sell all of your btc to me then, and then remove the begging address from your signature?
