I got a strange thing going on. Chrome asks me if the plugin is allowed to run, I let it run and the website tells me it's not installed. Bit weird.

If they can't produce "classic" Trezors... maybe they should just start selling more of the metal ones... I bet there is significant market demand for them.

or maybe... upgrade the classic to metallics then give metallic preorders 2. Aren't they like 15 bucks worth of materials and labour?

It will be perverse, if the metals become generally available for sale, while the early classic orders cannot be released because of the present delays (and look to be at least 6 weeks from a finished production run) with the cases. That scenario would question the sense in making an early order, together with the fact that the coming general sales will probably be less in BTC than those early orders.

Lets hope Trezor can do something here.

Trezor has a screen, and the payment protocol (BIP 70) provides PKI signing, so you see real identities instead of addresses.

Sometimes I'm asked, why all this work, and in particular, why signing? The reason is, so you know what it is you're confirming.

This isn't a theoretical need. I got a message from my bank today that clearly shows they're experiencing phishing or malware attacks that work by confusing people into typing codes into their hardware second factor without realising what they're doing:

https://ebanking-ch2.ubs.com/common/pagepopup?site=4774&page=9076

Quote
E-banking security is always one of the highest priorities at UBS. Thanks to beneficiary confirmation UBS has an additional security solution for online payment transactions which permits you to verify that no criminally manipulated transfers are executed.

Therefore, in most cases, the weak point for fraudulent actions is the banking clients themselves or the personal computer, the security of which UBS is unable to influence. Therefore, to ensure optimal security, we are reliant on your assistance. Please observe the following security tips at all times:

  • Be especially attentive when logging in to e-banking: The input number shown by UBS, which you must enter in the card reader, always has six digits.
  • After logging in with the Access Card and a card reader, confirm only character strings that you yourself previously entered and whose correctness you can check – such as the account number on the original payment slip.
  • Be aware that UBS will never contact you (by phone, e-mail, SMS, letter or fax) to request confirmation of any kind using the card reader and Access Card.

It's good that Trezor and the Bitcoin community together are going to head off these kinds of attacks at the pass: but for that, we need BIP70 and we need signing!

Don't get too full of yourselves yet it was just release we haven't had a hacker get into a CA yet and take a bitcoin business' private key yet. They should have PGP keys and we could have sent keys thru the bitcoind, making each node a keyserver, that can be checked against X number of nodes.

So how was Berlin?

Yes, there was. But organizers of the event didn't arrange a recording. Thankfully molecular was prepared and filmed the demo on his cam. We now have the raw output and will try to cut, encode and upload it as time permits. But as you can imagine there are things with higher priority ...

Haha, yeah, I wouldn't worry about it.

Incidentally, I am writing a "Bitcoin for Dummies" book... the title is "Bitcoin for the Befuddled" and there is a chapter on safe Bitcoin storage. I wanted to include a detailed section on hardware wallets (I ordered 4 trezors, two metallic, two classic)... if I can get my hands on one soon I can include a section on it in the book! So how was Berlin?

Pretty cool. Alena and slush held a very nice presentation.

I enjoyed both the talk and the Q&A session. Many of my questions were answered (mostly after the talk) and my understanding of the trezor deepened.

I even got to play with one during the event... more info

everything I tested worked.

I tried...

Quote
initializing the trezor (worked), wiping the trezor (worked), restoring the trezor from the backed-up seed (worked), receiving money (worked), sending money (worked), reloading wallet (after wiping local storage) from trezor (worked), firmware upgrade (worked).

There were some minor hickups with the webwallet (related to backend, according to slush fixed by now) and some not-so-minor problems (bus resets) with my USB stack on that microsoft hardware. Those were not trezor-related, though.

Summarizing I can say this is a extremely well thought-out device. Also very sexy!

Good things come to those who wait.
