You have to understand, this works out best when the team is far ahead of everyone else, even winning the championship on early races like at the middle of the season gives you so much more advantage because you start to work on the next seasons car, which Mercedes will want. Is Russel bad? Of course not, but if you give him the car, you are not guaranteeing a win there, you are just making sure that you have the best car and a good driver, but not the best driver, so Mercedes will want the best driver with the best car to guarantee the championship for themselves.

About the free practices, what often happens is that if the weather isn't good cars don't run, wait for something better. I doubt reducing the length of the free practices will really change that. Sometimes the car isn't ready, needs some mechanical work, and now that means a driver will be more likely to not run at all during a practice because there is no time to fix the car.

At the end of the day an F1 car is a kind of prototype, it needs testing to improve. Look at some teams, even after a whole season sometimes they don't know what was so wrong with their car !

I think Hamilton would also be happy with whatever offer from Mercedes as this is the only chance for him to get that 8th title and be the absolutely best driver ever of F1,for me he is already but he is sharing the titles with Schumacher.Of course Mercedes will not make him a bad offer either so this is the perfect combination and we will see Hamilton with Mercedes at least until the end of the 2022 year.Plenty of time to fight for the 8th title and I think no other driver can win it as easily as Hamilton can with a Mercedes car.

Mercedes would not want to drop Lewis Hamilton, he is a seasoned driver that has 4th consecutive win right now, and they will not let an opportunity to slip like that, and I think that Hamilton will surely want another win on the Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 Team,

If this were the case, they would have already signed the renewal of the contract in October, Mercedes cannot lose Hamilton, but for the next 2 years, it cannot guarantee him a contract of 4 at that figure, in 4 years Hamilton will be 39 years old, you cannot think of paying that figure to an almost 40-year-old is the same thing that Ferrari did in Schumacher's time, especially when you have a driver at home, Russell, who can guarantee excellent performance.

Russell was supposed to be the driver of Mercedes this year (2021) over Bottas.
He was required by Toto Wolff to Williams but they said "We can't give him to you now because we need him to sell the team with some value or no one will buy it".

For this reason, only we can't already see him to Mercedes but he will be a Mercedes driver almost for sure soon.

Over Hamilton or over Bottas, this is the question.

If Hamilton rejected the contract there is no other place for him this upcoming season in F1 and this would mean a more open Championship to watch but I doubt in the end we will see Mercedes without Hamilton.I also doubt Williams would pay Hamilton like he wants and also can’t offer him a car as good as Mercedes so let’s see how this drama folds out.

The things are going really interesting lately. Hamilton could even end his career now if he doesn't come to an agreement on his contract extension. Honestly, I would definitely love to see Russell at Mercedes from now on. But I like Hamilton too and it will be great if he gets his 8th championship and has the record alone. We will wait and see what will happen.
