I would like to avoid costing the miners anything if possible... I've been so far reluctant to "charge" either in the form of donations or "insurance" or what have you beyond what it costs me to perform those services.  I am, however, looking at possibly having to charge ~0.4% for the NMC to BTC conversion, since I'm losing actually quite a bit on that, given the abysmal NMC rate and the only NMC exchange charges .4% when I exchange it... after NMC goes nowhere but down.  I've actually got close to 20,000 NMC backed up that's been converted at much higher rates than the market right now, so I'm out probably close to 200 BTC after factoring in conversion fee and market drop.

Is there a way to donate all NMC to the pool automatically?

Is there a way to donate all NMC to the pool automatically?
Best I can tell, there isn't a way to donate any NMC to the pool, but if it would be easier for Inaba not to code that (because the effort to wirte code to add a donation feature to NMC might not be worth the NMC it could net even if someone donated 100%), he could post a donation address that is in the same namecoin wallet as these 20000 NMC and people could set their auto-payout to go to that address (or send a percentage to it manually if they wanted to donate less than 100%).  Obviously that wouldn't make sense for BTC, as most people don't put forth extra effort, but those people probably aren't mining NMC anyway, and if they are, they might not really want to donate them.

EDIT:  I forgot auto-pay on NMC could be in BTC, those people might be mining NMC after all, not that it matters if the effort to add more donation code wouldn't be beneficial in general regardless.

Hmm yeah I don't have a way to donate NMC directly.  How would people feel about changing the NMC On/Off to just "donating" NMC instead of not mining it?  That would be easy (just remove an if/else) to code.

If you're searching these lines for a point, you've probably missed it.  There was never anything there in the first place.

If you do this, make sure to clarify that this is what this option does.

I wouldn't have a problem with this, but you know someone would complain about donatig when they didn't chose to and it wasn't clear upfront (due to them joining before the change).  Moreover, I assume the reason you turn NMC off is  for less longpolls.  As such, users who don't want to mine NMC might complain about the more longpolls (which I assume would technically be doubled even if NMC and BTC difficulty were equal).

Hey, you had posted within the first few posts that PPS would become available, but I'm not seeing any option for it.  What gives?

I'd be happy to even just turn off merged mining if that helps man. I am also VERY happy to donate the namecoins to the pool for as long it takes and anyone else who bitches can just STFU. They have no idea how little money you are making if ANY on this pool or most pool operators in general. I know some nefarious ops have stolen coins and it appears deepbit, etc. should be doing okay due to volume and guaranteed donations(I don't know that for sure and begrudge NO ONE a profit).

Anyway I think you deserve a sort of "DONATION DRIVE" and I'm starting now. I don't have enough coins to just throw you a stack and have put some serious coin into my farm and just started getting it going(seriously like for 2 days without issue).

I am asking everyone in the pool to up their donation to at least 3% for one week. Come on folks, this is not much for us, but at almost 400 GH/s average at the pool, it's like doubling Inaba's farm for a week. It would give him effectively 12 GH/s of the pools resources(400 x .03) for a week.

You figure if we can have a good week of blocks, we should technically average I think 5 or 6 per day at current difficulty, but let's say we find 50 blocks that week. Inaba would get about 75 coins that week.

I think it would be a cool gesture and something we should all do periodically. For those of you who already donate at that level then kudos to you.

(I have given 1% from the beginning.)

So I'm going to go change mine right now to 3% until next Thursday. I'm not lookin' for props, but urge everyone else to do the same!

I'm also happy to give Inaba permission to look at my accounts and verify that I have done so if he chooses.

Yeah, as much as I would like to move to PPS, I'm not sure I am prepared to absorb that sort of risk.  To do it right, I'd need about 10,000 BTC to keep in reserve... needless to say, I am not about to give up the Ferrari for that. Smiley  Not saying it's out of the question for the future, but at the moment, I don't want to end up a failed pool due to lack of preparedness.

jjshabadoo:

Turning off merged mining won't help, might as well keep it on.  Smiley  I've been reluctant to put out "total donations" and any "profit" numbers, because I don't want to look like I'm begging for donations. I appreciate anything anyone is willing to give of their own free will, so I thank you greatly for that!  As long as the bills get paid, the lights will stay on, not really about profit for me... I don't expect to get that Ferrari like Tycho and Eluthuria have anytime soon.

I keep  meaning to ask, and keep forgetting, two things:

1) What is the "avg donation" on the donation column?  I thought it was my donation averaging into the 50 blocks displayed, and it seems to mostly go up which would make that make sense, but I saw it drop once.

2) I know you said the vs prop numbers didn't mean much on individual blocks, but I have been mining steady for ~the past 50 blocks (counting the merged one), and my vs prop average at the bottom is negative too.  Does that number not indicate realistic benefit until after the initial 7 blocks of score building are gone, have I incredibly lucky consistently enough to have been better off without this scoring system, or is the average at the bottom really a useless number too?

Well, the number at number at the bottom is for the past 50 blocks, not your overall.  I think if/when I remove the prop per block display, I'll make the bottom column your overall prop differential.  What is your number at?  It should be close to 0... a + or - a percent or two isn't a huge deal, and that number doesn't include your "banked" +prop that will only be realized when you stop mining.  I keep meaning to ask Meni if there's a way to include that amount in the calculation without sending the numbers off the rails.

The "avg donation" part is the average amount donated per user on a weighted average... meaning not everyone is donating .3%, but averaged over the total number of people mining in the block, that's what it comes out to be.  So on average, the pool (meaning me) gets .3% of 50 BTC donated, or .15 BTC!  Now you see where all the ho's be flockin', awww yeah!

I'm bumping again.

PLEASE PUT YOUR DONATION AT 3% FOR ONE FREAKING WEEK!

C'mon guys it would be a nice thank you to Inaba for maintaining a pretty sweet pool and help keep him motivated when things are a pain in the azz.

Not that he's not doing a great job already, but let's do this!

Again, I don't know Inaba at all and have no relationship with the guy outside of these boards and mining his pool the past month or so.

I just believe there are too many "takers" sometimes in bitcoin and we should support those that contribute positively.

I'm going to pretend this wasn't a rhetorical question. Given a block, the chance that it will be found by the same miner as the previous block is the sum of squares of each miner's hashrate, divided by the square of the pool's total hashrate. Extrapolating from the data available about top miners I estimate the former to be about 5700 (Gh/s)^2, so the probability is 5700 / 500^2 ~ 2.3%. If the pool finds on average 7 blocks per day, then the chance there will be an occurrence of this event (two blocks in a row by the same miner) in a day is very roughly 7 times that, which is 16%.

To those on the 9009 port on us1.  I will be disabling that port soon, please move to us2 or us3 on port 8337.

There's still quite a few people mining on it surprisingly!

Thanks for the increased donation, guys!  Up to .52%, highest it's ever been!
