Avenger... I love you too....sweetie.... I sense a bit of jealousy and resentment. Fact is... those who got KNC Equipment did well, and continue to do so. You should have got one... admit it. Your bashing is like a fart in the wind.... insignificant. Guess you can't tell us where the asic deals recommended by Avenger are?
I'm still down about 31 BTC on my Saturn/now Jupiter miner received in October, it's mining great, but I am not sure if it will pay for itself even in BTC? I do admit that the November batch will pay for itself easily, even in BTC, but for us October BTC purchasers, this is not the case. If you don't mind me asking.... How did you end up paying 31 BTC for a saturn, and 2 boards? I'm scratching my head on that one... 40 BTC, October Saturn, 6 BTC for two upgrade boards is what I paid total.

Trying to grasp this.... sounds about right for the timeframe.... it's been what..... 7 weeks? 31 btc short of 40 or 46? so you have around 9 or 15? btc from the saturn in about 7 weeks..? looks like 15 from comparing to mine...

Could be when he bought if he used BTC to pay for his miner then.

I paid 40 BTC to KNC for my October Saturn, delivered Oct 28th (Some people paid 80 for a Jupiter at that time). I paid 6 BTC for two upgrade modules, making it a Jupiter. I've mined 15 BTC so far, thus I am down 31 BTC as of Today. I bought when BTC was around $100 orso. I'm just trying to point out that there are quite a few of us that paid BTC, that are never going to recoup their investment in KNC.

Hmmm...I see. I was in the same boat remember...... good thing btc is 8-10x what it was then.... I'd say just flip those buggas for btc then if you like investing/speculation... the machines themselves appreciated in value dramatically, on top of the btc price rise... take advantage of it!

Everyone has different strategies.... there are several ways to make money here with btc and knc.... somehow, I still feel on top of things with 5 Neptunes on the way, and four grand in my pocket, another 5 btc in the wallet.... with about 12k in originally.... What is the investment difference for an individual paying in $USD and buying the exact amount of BTC needed with the same $USD? Nothing.
The argument that one should have used $USD instead of BTC because one would have had more BTC is ridiculous. To make such an assertion, one must acknowledge that their argument is essentially that one should have purchased the same amount of BTC they spent immediately after spending them. Every time someone says, "you should have spent $USD instead of BTC", they're really saying, "you should have bought the same amount of BTC after spending them"... which is the same thing as saying, "you should have bought BTC when it was cheaper".
Well thank you captain hindsight, but that advice is absolutely useless!

Not completely true, not due to KNC at least. IF BTC were at the levels we all imagined now (100 to 300 range?) how well would everyone be doing? You wouldn't have had a fucking prayer of selling rigs for what you have, the people who paid for rigs with any method wouldn't be breathing a sigh of relief at breaking even and being in the black...much like the people who paid with 70k worth of BTC aren't. A KNC rig wouldn't be worth anothing like what they go for now if the price of BTC wasn't where it is..and that has nothing to do with KNC. They did deliver a better product than we paid for, faster by some margin. It was late, in my case 2 weeks late despite claims they were able to stay on schedule and eeven that they had shipped when they hadn't, a delay at the crucial time when it would have mined best. A great many things which are basic and simple were fucked up costing customers time and money...plastic left in units under heatsinks for example. Avenger is right in that they were test units cobbled together by a workforce that wasn't enough for the task. No mention was ever made of Nov orders being so much faster either. My rig has had one problem, it was delivered 2 weeks past the time it should have been, otherwise it's been exceptional. Not touched it at all except a couple of updates. I know I was lucky though, others weren't. Hosted people got shafted for weeks. Lost a lot of hashing. No-one to support them, which was what they paid for, a working miner working 24/7 thanks to that support. Saying that KNC are awesome because they are better than other crap companies isn't logical or fair. They are better and the obvious choice in a risky game, but they are a long way from as good as they could be with just a small effort. They fail on simple everyday basics of business. All this "we're all falling asleep working long hours" shite..makes me sick. Plan better, get the people in, have a production schedule ready that will work. Then get some kip. One resource that's easy to find is human power, even for short periods, temp contracts. Every business will be using exactly this type of resource right now to fulfill Xmas orders in this busy period. Avenger has valid points, shame he feels the need to get personal and lose the logic. Doesn't stop him being right when he's right though. If you can't accept the bad with the good, how can you make a logical decision about what is best to do now? If this thread only accepts views that are positive and the real negative aspects aren't here, how can anyone new coming here see both sides?

In hindsight, yes, this was the correct decision, but who would have thought BTC would go up ten fold in a few months? R1senfa17h' explanation is spot on in my opinion, this goes back to the fact, you should have bought BTC and not a miner, and you would be better off. If you paid in cash for the miner, then at this point you most likely made your money back. But looking back it's always easier to figure out what you should have done. You could have mined LTC starting in April and made much more than you ever will with any bitcoin miner in the near future for example.

What I'm really excited about.... is this: Especially considering the last performance delivery increase.. I agree. Given they like to look good, they probably already have more like 5TH as a target so a small fail will be over delivering to us. A bit of a silly game in a way, given that powering them might be a problem at that kind of speed? People look to be wiring houses based on 2KW roughly...gonna be sick if it's not enough just for the thrill of an announcement from KNC. Better to be accurate as they can at these levels I think?
