Status update for the refund on one of my three Neptunes:

  • 12/29 - 11:06pm ET: Sent email to sales@kncminer.com asking for refund
  • 12/29 - 11:06pm ET: Automated response confirming my request was received
  • 12/30 - 8:37AM ET: Kurt from KnC tells me that my order has been canceled as requested and he asks for my wire transfer info
  • 12/30 - 8:49AM ET: I respond to Kurt's request with my info and inquire about whether I can be refunded in the equivalent amount of bitcoin instead
  • 12/30 - 9:21AM ET: Kurt responds to confirm that the refund has been initiated to my bank account and that they do not offer refunds in bitcoin

I have no idea if/when the next sale for Jupiters may be, but it looks like the refund process is extremely quick! I'll update once more when I see the money in my bank account.

I sent an email on 26th to get an RMA for 2 damaged coolers and still nothing. It was a reply to an email that said: If you wish to return the damaged cooler then we can provide you with an RMA number and send a replacement.
Also on the 4th December I sent an email to Sam and nothing.
Cypher....Maybe you are emailing the wrong department?...    customerservice@kncminer.com
I get quick responses there.

I have always emailed support@kncminer.com and it always works. They will probably reply after the holidays. I am not in a hurry anyway.

I had done some calculations this morning that turn out to be wrong.  Someone was speculating on a $3000 price tag for January Jupiters.  I think that is a lowball figure if one considers the $13200 figure for late batch 1 Neptunes, of course the $205 shipping is non-refundable as is the Bitpay take.  That $12,995 is $4.33/GHs after a few months waiting while if January Jupiters go off at $3000 it's $5.45/GHs at a nominal 550GHs tho at a power penalty.

So, either the $12,995 was a blunder or the January Jupiters are going to come with a price tag well above $3000.

But then my calcs might be all wrong today - running treadmill watching Bering Sea Gold and next episode highlights show one of the miners being carried into hospital after opening a door to someone, spinning the cylinder of a revolver, putting it to his head and it discharging.  They were not rushing thru the hospital door.

Guys I didn't check the mining forum for a while now, allot of ASIC companies are around now, I know that this is the KNC thread so I was looking at Neptune (2nd batch) and I am not sure about buying, I don't know about all the companies that will be shipping soon neither the expected diff when KNC ships the 2nd batch but I want to know what do you think? is it worth it now to buy a KNC miner ? do you recommend another company (that will really ship and PLZ not BFL) and what is the expected diff rise till then ?

I didn't buy an ASIC miner I just held to my BTC (best decision ever) but now that ASIC chips are available and there is so much competition is it worth re-consideration ?

Once again... Total Bullshit.  I JUST got a refund on a Neptune.
Here's a DIRECT QUOTE from yesterday's e-mail ...    "No problem at all, the decision is always on you hehe, we promise refund up to shipment."

And You are saying you had "Massive losses" out on a KNC purchase?
I think you may be in a "league of your own" there.... like the only one....   congratz

He's not the only one though, I am still down 20btc from my initial investment in my October miner due to 3 week late delivery (end October).

In fact, if BTC price had not risen exponentially, then almost no one would have recovered their investment at this point.

Edit: Let me add that if I had gotten a refund at that point, I would have been down even more BTC. It was my bad decision to pay in BTC, but hindsight is always 20/20.

My November Jupiters were $4632.30 delivered to the US.  That's $4632.30/675 GH/s = $6.86 per GH/s.  The difficulty was 908M by the time they were up and running.  If KNC sells January Jupiters, they are likely to be up and running by the first week in Feb which will have a difficulty of ~2000M.  To make it the same deal as November Jupiters, given the doubling of difficulty, they would need to price them at half of what they sold for in November.  $4632.30/2 = $2316.15.  They said they would price them as competitively as possible so I think $3000 is generous.

As far as comparing November Jupiters to Q2 Neptunes, I think you start to see that the Neptunes are nowhere near as good a deal as Jupiters were.

600 GH Bitcoin Mining Card
The Monarch BPU 600 C
$2,100.00

Do they need bail money when they are selling it this cheap?  Grin

"Orders are shipped in order date priority so any order placed now should be expected to be delivered in February."

So 13k would buy you 3.6TH with delivery in February. If only it were true  Cry

BLF's prices are lower than the Neptune but I still won't buy from BFL.  Looks like existing BFL customers get screwed again

Wonder what the failure rate will be over time.   Liquid cooling of the ASIC true but the rest of the card?  The Jalapeno has filter caps near a chip that was getting quite hot and speculation was those caps would fail long before their due date.  They may have corrected that in later Jalapenos, I don't know.  So, the Monarch ASIC will be well cooled but the rest of the card?

It's a shame BFL doesn't sell anything from stock which is reasonable. Lol

The machines are priced in U.S. dollars, not BTC. Can you imagine if it was?
BTC is the medium used to convey the U.S. Dollar value at the time of purchase.
You as a miner have 2 choices...
1. Mine & hold
2. Mine & sell
either of which should be showing net profit by now when compared to the $ cost of the miner.
Not having 20 BTC is a useless point, as it doesn't reflect your purchase, you purchased a machine, which was paid for in US Dollars, weather you used btc or not.
and if i'm not mistaken, weren't Octobers were done shipping by the 15th?
I was the first official paypal order on june 2nd....  and yeah, I was promised a September shipment, but got October instead...
about 2 weeks late...   Which I consider spectacular!

Maybe you are emailing the wrong department?...    customerservice@kncminer.com
I get quick responses there.

I have always emailed support@kncminer.com and it always works. They will probably reply after the holidays. I am not in a hurry anyway.

Just a heads up, full service will resume on the 7th Jan. Mon 6th is a public holiday in Sweden, and in between we have NY and a wknd. I know for a fact people are about, inc. Cust serv but it's a reduced service! and not all full systems go till Tues. Engineers for sure are working on Neptune though as they have some deadlines to meet, and some of the rest are working on DC related stuff...in any case I'm in London till next week. Happy New Year to everyone all the same, will see you on the otherside, best!

Make my day! Say thanks if you found me helpful Smiley BTC Address --->
