From this levels, only sell btc

You giving advices, newbie?

If you think about it, BTC already had a bit more than a 50% price correction, and currently bouncing around the 35% to 45% territory.

Seems like a good range to buy, rather than sell, but depends how many BTC you already have.
I don't have any yet, but I will buy at a price 6700$. Good luck

I’m wondering whether lightning might turn out to be the privacy layer.
Is lightning + TOR superior to Monero?

Not quite but good chance it will be when fully-developed ... cypherpunks have gone to town hardening Lightning because they have seen all the shit that has been thrown at Bitcoin over these last years ... by enemies and 'friends'. Lightning has been given onion-routing natively in the protocol, no need for TOR, basically it is built right in. Also future developments with native batching using channel factories and Schnorr signatures will add more layers of obfuscation ... also take a look into coinjoin if you want some affordable mixing for added privacy on bitcoin blockchain and there are other blinded mixing schemes close to hitting the streets, e.g. Zerolink ... rust never sleeps.

To what end?

Success.

To be fair: to your own predetermined exit point. That could include ‘never’.

Thanks, HairyMaclairy!

I was shooting heroin and reading “The Fountainhead” in the front seat of my privately owned police cruiser when a call came in. I put a quarter in the radio to activate it. It was the chief.

I enjoyed this. A Neal Stephenson flavored quickie.

Yay! Another quality post. I wonder why every LN howto I've come across involves cloud computing. Is building and running a LN node on a consumer grade box/connection unrealistic? It doesn't look that bandwidth-hungry, at least for now. More or less like a moderately active Tor Browser session, likely?

Thanks for the props.  I think it’s the requirement for an “always online” connnection. Just easier with cloud.

Don’t ask me to explain what happens if your node goes offline.  I don’t know.

no cloud needed. cloud is not even mentioned in this tutorial. install docker on your linux system and run the commands from the tutorial.

What we need now is a slow steady growth like March-June 2017, when it started below 1000 and reached 3000. In February BTC will reclaim the 15-20K $ range.  I would not be surprised if  in June we reach 45000$. I'm also curious where BTC will be at the end of 2018? And in 5 years from now? Millions of new users are buying and learning to hodl BTC, so at one point the demand will be much higher than the supply. It's a matter of time only to see another 20 fold increase. As we all know currently the supply is only 16.8 mil, of which 25% are lost forever. Another 25-50% is owned by permanent hodlers, so we have only 6-8 mil in circulation. This is the amount traded in all exchanges in January, and some of it for sure went into holders hands, who will wait for at least 5 fold increase.

Incredible how potent bitterness and self delusion is. This geezer may have a point, I don't really care, but he must've put in thousands of hours by now to justify that one action to himself.

I do, at least qualitatively.

In Alice's absence, some malicious counterparty (say, Bob) might try to cheat by broadcasting a previous channel state to undo his latest spend. However, if Alice - or anyone else, for that matter - notices and broadcasts the legitimate, later state as signed by both Alice and Bob, cheater Bob loses everything and the whole channel amount is forfeited to Alice. So you either have to stay online or hire some bounty hunter to patrol the network while you're away. Of course, the hunter gets a piece of the cake.

The deadline for catching such cheating is one week. I believe a bounty hunter market will arise, with aggressive price competition. In principle, it should be possible to hire a multitude of hunters. The first to out the perp wins. No single hunter needs to be online 24/7, as long as there are enough of them (including Alice herself).

Well, cloud isn't mentioned explicitly, but Digital Ocean is.
I'll try the homespun solution, install docker and all.
Thanks vroom!
