So what you're saying then is that the 1/1 shares have value at the cost of devaluation of the higher rated shares?

I am not quite sure i get what you are saying, but probably: yes.
If you submit 1-shares, you will submit more shares to the server, but they will give you less score.
If you set the diff higher, you will submit less shares, but they will score higher.
That way, your average score will always be the same.

Higher diff means more variance but less network load.

Okay, that is helpful to know. I'm still wrapping my head around all of this so I appreciate the responses.

kind of like how BFL is wrapping their head around all the people contacting their credit card company for non delivery, and getting their money back via paypal haha...

I also noticed the new namecoin warning, when using a valid address.  Is this the first glimpses of merged mining coming back to life?

um... i have no use for namecoins, other that to convert them to bitcoins. I have the namcoin address pointing to my address on BTC-e everything was fat, dumb, and happy. the address worked ok on BTCguild. I've never had enough namecoin to pay out on Slush. Well, today, Slush pool is saying that the address isn't valid and that i sould get a namecoin client. Tongue

Any idea what is going on? Not enough namecoin to go crazy about.

I got the same message.   Huh  I think it is a valid address, I never had enough coins to get a payout.

Why is it that slush's pool doesn't do merged mining?  I saw the explanation about stratum, but other pools seem to use stratum and merged mining.  Different daemon or something?

Am I the only one that is not able to connect to the pool right now? On minepeon, it says that its is currently unavailable/dead.

Been working fine for me.

On another note, Diff did go up @30% again. It seems to me we always have a few bad days of luck once it goes up for some reason.

And it's back to normal. It was showing like 25000 confirmations on all blocks and a difficulty of 1.

I have a bunch of block erupters (on BFGMiner), that I point at Slush's pool, which works fine.

I also have an blade erupter running against BtcGuild using mining_proxy.exe. This also works fine.

I would like to move the blade erupter over to Slush's pool.

HOWEVER, when I try to point the blade's mining_proxy.exe at Slush's pool, the blade starts functioning erratically. Generally my blade get days and days of uptime, but on Slush it crashes every few minutes, or worse, hangs until I reboot it. It's overclocked to 13gh/s, but ventilation is via a wind tunnel in a cold room, so can't imagine it's that.

Switching the blade back to BtcGuild fixes it. Switching back to Slush, and I have issues again. Tried rebooting it a bunch of times etc.

Any idea what's going on?

Cant wait for that next long block coming so we can blame the DIFF.
