If everyone in the uk switched on their electric kettle at 7-50 pm instead of 8-00 pm, then the sudden demand would shut down the power grid.(it's expected at 8pm but not before). It takes 24 hours to restart all the tripped out nuclear power stations.
Do many people in the UK switch on their electric kettles at 8:00 pm? It was a traditional event on a Wednesday evening I'm assuming this is just an example of 'British humour', lol. Because if true, that is VERY odd societal 'behavior' (translation - behaviour). No, it's because most people have a cup of tea mid-evening. See: http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/soaps/s2/eastenders/news/a151673/enders-causes-national-power-surge.htmlNational Grid's control room has people sitting watching TV, getting ready for the big power drain to start... no his absolutely right i live in the UK and they time the power for when certain TV shows are on , his also right that if millions turned there kettle on about 15 min before the end of the show it would freak out the power grid When we all have "smart" kettles in our remote controlled homes, what fun these botnet controllers would have.

Anyone else seeing fluctuating rewards ?
My 00:50am and 1:44am (2/10/13 or 10/2/13) were half of what I normally receive :-(
The two round in between these were normal (1:00.29am and 1:01.28am) and the once since.
So I am only moaning about 2 rounds lol

You can always use your hash rate and the current difficulty to determine an average amount of time it should take you to solve a block. There is always the chance that the first value your miner comes up with will solve a block, but that is highly unlikely. When you get a solution sooner than the average calculated time then you got lucky. If it takes longer you were unlucky. The way I understand it, 100% luck means that for the time period in question solutions were found in the expected average amount of time. In the long run our luck should always be at or close to 100%. Sort term variance can skew luck to above or below the expected average. Feel free to correct me if I'm totally wrong. heh.. Chad

That's pretty much it. You have a 50/50 chance to find a block within [difficulty] number of shares. If you find one in less shares, you're lucky, if it takes more shares than that, you are unlucky. In the long run, the number of shares taken to find a block should average out to the difficulty - which people call 100% luck.
And you can calculate that in time, as well. The pool generates X number of shares per hour, so 100% luck would would mean the pool takes, on average,
( difficulty in shares / X shares per hour) hours to find blocks..
