A good arb opportunity for Yacoin right now is to buy on crypsty and sell on bter.

BTW guys it looks like the price is finally starting to take off. If you look at the chart there was a really big jump in about November 2013. I'm expecting something similar to happen sometime this year.

So, you're predicting a 100x growth?  I'm optimistic most of the time, but that's pretty far fetched, even for true believers!

Knock optimism all you want, ThirtyBird. Bottom line, if it has happened before, it CAN happen again true?

I have A LOT of optimism in terms of the people behind the coin--you, Joe_Bauers, the others, even Windmaster Smiley. I also think the fundamentals behind the coin are SOLID. So I would expect the price to reflect that in the near future.

Bitcoin mining is now a specialized and very risky industry, just like gold mining. Amateur miners are unlikely to make much money, and may even lose money. Bitcoin is much more than just mining, though!

Does the YACoin wallet coin control automatically select the lowest priority inputs? If not, can it be so??

Are you referring to yac.coinmine.pl? Ii is because the network hashrate is 143 khash/s while that pool's hashrate is 19.5 khash/s. On top of that, block times are at 50 seconds at the moment.

Not only the coinmine.pl

I’m mining at a little private pool with total hashrate about 3 kh/s.
And with any network hash rate (up to 500kh/s) there was no orphan blocks (less than 2%)!

It all started about a week ago.. you can check log at coinmine.pl

Selfish mining perhaps? Some one or some pool has a large piece of the network hashrate, and I wouldn't be surprised if there is some manipulation going on. I'd still bet that if coinmine.pl was 7 times bigger the orphan rate would drop significantly...

Maybe we can find out if there is some unknown pool out there?

I think the concern would depend on the intent of any manipulation. If it is simply to mine-and-dump for bitcoin, then that person is only hurting himself in my view. The price is kept artificially low which will offer some opportunity to buy for those who earn and keep YAC through Proof Of Stake.

As time passes, mining will really be only a small part of the overall picture--even if you assume no new miners and no new hardware improvements (wrong assumptions). As an example, the issues that have occurred in the past with NFactor changes (long adjusting time; dramatic rate increase in the money supply), may be a concern for those who mine just to dump. However, the overall network and marketcap won't be a concern for long-term stakeholders. Just my thoughts.

Less Than 10 Days Until NFactor 17!

http://muuttuja.org/yacoin/countdown/

The most innovative coin in crypto, and the pioneer of the scrypt-chacha algo is making the move into the next NFactor level--as originally scheduled over 2 years ago! Scrypt-chacha as a whole has been picking up steam, and the price of YAC has over tripled in that last couple months. Patience has been a virtue and will continue to be moving forward.

As YACoin advances into this new, exciting, uncharted, intriguing territory, I'm setting up a little promotion. If you would like of these bad boys please send me a private message with your hat size and info. I will be giving away these hats in exchange for 50,000 YACs. U.S adresses only please. I will stop taking orders at this exchange rate exactly when the NFactor reaches NF17.

I don't know why, but a lot is happening - 62 reorganizations in last 12hrs.
13 blocks disconnected at one time.

That blocks was replaced by 15 new 'alternate' blocks.
But why new blocks was not shown to official chain right from the start!?

Perhaps there is malicious miner which has more than 50% of network hashrate.
He shows his 'private' chain to public chain/wallets with delay just when his chain better (in terms of found blocks) than public chain.

Almost in all cases when reorganization has happened, 'alternate' chain has more blocks than public chain.

The price is really shooting up especially on bter.

3 months ago I posted to the Yacoin sub on reddit advising that price Yacoin was being traded at you could purchase 1 million Yacoin for about 1 bitcoin. Now you need 5 bitcoins to purchase 1 million Yacoin.

So for the last 3 months Yacoin is officially on an upwards trend! Well done Yacoin!

Regarding those 13 disconnects:

Here the chain splits. Following both branches ( links after "Next Block" ), I believe one branch mostly awards familiar coinmine.pl address (YESJtirJQJsDRTVS67UuuPZfeoJ6YWojwt), while the other (it's coinbase rewards 15Lxek3tUvxzDhjX1dtC3Znz6xXi62HtvF) is competing branch that refuses to mine on top of block of first one, but it does not seem to withold blocks until later.
Two steps later It can be seen that it also bumps up difficulty (perhaps because of different times), so it is able to overwrite best branch inspite of that one having POS blocks included.

I have been monitoring/investigating this situation for the past few days. And I am noticing that the network hash/s spikes around 12am-3pm PST (7am-10am GMT) to over 200 khash/s and then it reduces to as low as 100 khash/s at around 12pm-3pm PST (7pm-10pm GMT.

Looking at the statistics on yac.coinmine.pl, I have seen the block reward time get as low as 32 seconds when the network hashrate is at its highest. Also, looking at http://explore.grokonet.com/?inflation=1, you can see inflation spike to 100% and then back to 50% cyclically with a period of about 24 hours over the last few weeks.

Could it be some student at a university in eastern Europe who has access to a few supercomputers at only certain times of the day, every day? Could it be some selfish/malicious miner (botnet operator perhaps) who is systematically playing off of the difficulty adjustments to optimize the benefits of selfish mining? By the way, it seems that the time per block has the 'biggest' impact vs someone having over a third (or more) of the network hashrate.

There is 'kicker here... I believe whoever is doing it is NOT mining and dumping.  In fact, that person(s) could very well be mining and pumping? When I attempted to even out the network by pointing some resources to coinmine.pl, evening out the network, it seemed that automatic sale orders started up on cryptsy. When I pointed my resources away from coinmine, the sell orders stopped.

It is an interesting situation. Since I don't know who this 'selfish' miner is nor his intentions, I would rather help out coinmine.pl (I think there is a chinese pool as well somewhere with about 60-80 khash/s of hashing power?) and allow smaller miners to mine and dump a few thousand yac a day vs allowing one entity to have a near monopoly on nearly 100,000 YAC created per day. However, the NFactor changes in less than 6 days, which will change the entire landscape in terms of blockchain transaction processing...

Hello bitdwarf

If your question is: how many YACs are being mined with PoW vs PoS, then looking at http://explore.grokonet.com/
note that a PoW block reward is 70.69YAC, and a PoS block varies according to how much is "at stake" by the holder.

If your question is: how may various crypto currencies are PoW mined vs PoS mined, then you might look at the now 636 *coins listed at http://coinmarketcap.com/all/views/all/ for example, and count which are PoW and which PoS.  Note that it is not so clear with a coin like YAC that is both! Grin

These are bits values from both branches from blocks 1103105 and onward:

1e02141d(01:55:49)   1e02141f   1e021430   1e021418   1e0213fa
1e02141d(01:58:32)   1e021469   1e021478   1e02146f   1e021496

Second branch, that later overtakes the first one has higher bits value (block found 3min after first branch). That gets expanded to higher target value and thus lower difficulty and not the other war around like I presumed before. That could make it possible to catch up with first chain without having more resources.

Looking at code it seems that block reward calculation goes like the this:

Code:
nSubsidy = 100 / (diff ^ 1/6)

but wiki and other sites say it is like this:

Code:
nSubsidy = 25 / (diff ^ 1/6)

Here for example
https://yacoin.org/tech.html
http://coinwik.org/YaCoin
http://coinwiki.info/en/Yacoin

I can not figure out where did 25 came from. Can someone explain this or at least point me in right direction please?
