I'm sorry if this is a really noob question, I haven't been able to find the answer anywhere else and I am brand new to ANC...

I just purchased quite a lot of ANC tonight on CEX as a future investment and immediately withdrew them to a different wallet. The wallet did receive a confirmation that the transaction was received, but it has been something like 5 or 6 hours without a single confirmation. I tried to check the blockchain for my transaction / address and it is not found, it also looks like there has not been a block found since sometime yesterday - it has been stuck at block 252049 for a long time now...

Is this normal to have such long gaps? Is something now working correctly with either the network, blockchain, my transaction, wallet, transaction, etc?

How long do most blocks usually take, this seems a bit ridiculous that my transaction has been stuck like this for so long!? Although looking at the blockchain, it appears that most blocks are usually 1-5 minutes (not hours or days!)

If someone could help me out I'd really appreciate it!

I'm running v0.8.5.6-g87bdacc-beta anoncoin-qt and blockchain is stuck at 252049. 7 active connections, synchronizing with network already about a hour or more.

......

I can provide a layman's explanation; ANC is being mined by high capacity multipools in a hit and run fashion; they mine a few blocks with a lot of capacity then once the difficulty has adapted they move on to another coin, leaving a relative few miners to solve a high difficulty block.

Patience is required until this block is solved and the difficulty adapts again. ie: http://ancblockchain.com/chain/Anoncoin

It is bright indeed but I still can't synchronize my wallet. I restarted the wallet and it shows "No block source available" now. What's wrong with this 252049 block?

Sorry, I'm not a techy person so I really can't answer that with any degree of certainty, but I would believe Gunzeons answer above my comment could perhaps shed some light on the problem?

Now I see. There wasn't any block mined since yesterday. Didn't I said already that ANC needs PoW/PoS instead of PoW to stop this crap happening?  Smiley Especially if we want it to be able to work on I2P smoothly.

AFAIK auxpow is to be implemented with the next hard fork, should solve the problem.

Yeah and they're also implementing an auxPoW of either three or five chains myriad.  Which should help to add even more redundancy.

@meeh,   any sleep these days?

Yes actually Grin So I'll get back soon, just need to be awaken enough :p

I've also almost made ready a critical hardfork patch in case we'll get more attacks. Just a bit more sleep and it's done Smiley

Looking forward to the new (auxPoW three of five chain myriad) patch!

Hopefully this will correct the mining difficulty stuck Cryptsy transactions issues!

Basically our current PoW system has a number of weaknesses as discussed in this thread. Here is an issue about how Dogecoin switched to AuxPow to address some of the problems we are having:

If any scrypt miners are out there it would be awesome if you could mine ANC for a bit to help crack this block.

I think he means three or five chain myriad.  Look at how Myriadcoin works having not one but many blockchains.  Anoncoin is doing something similar except with merged-mine auxPoW chains.  Similar to how Dogecoin is now merged-mined with Llitecoin and how Namecoin is merged-mined with Bitcoin.  Using a three chain myriad an attacker would need to control two of the three chains to pull a 51% attack or similar control of the coins networks.  Using a five chain myriad an attacker would need to control three of the five chains to pull a 51% attack or similar.  Also by using multiple chains we avoid a lot other problems that are affecting Anoncoin now.  Like multipools jumping on and off the only chain as they would either be two or four other chains hashing away.  Depending on whether a three or five chain myriad is implemented.  Using auxPoW merged-mine chains we'll poach a lot of miners off these large chains to also merged-mine Anoncoin at no extra costs.

So it makes sense to set up the auxPoW with bigger chains as they already have lots of miners who'd potentially also mine Anoncoin for free.  It makes sense to auxPoW on Scrypt as Anocoin is currently Scrypt plus the Litecoin chain is secure and the network large.  So anyone who mines Litecoin and Dogecoin could then also mine Anoncoin for free.  Then it makes sense to have a second chain focused on CPU mining.  So either Primes or Cryptonight.  Then a GPU chain also of which the upcoming NeoScrypt looks like it will be the largest GPU network chain.  Although there is also Scrypt-N Vertcoin which is soon to change to Lyra2 algorithm to look at as well.  So you could have a Scrypt ASIC chain plus a Cryptonight or Primes CPU chain and a NeoScrypt GPU chain for a three chain myriad.  Or for a five chain myriad, Scrypt, Primes, Cryptonight, NeoScrypt and Lyra2  For one Scrypt ASIC chain, plus one or two CPU chains and either one or two GPU chains.
