Transactions must be included in a block to be properly completed. When you send a transaction, it is broadcast to miners. Miners can then optionally include it in their next blocks. Miners will be more inclined to include your transaction if it has a higher transaction fee.

If it is not too much work involved I would suggest to add feature that prevents from sending Merits from/to hacked accounts.
That makes sense. But it would be more senseful to give back hacked accounts to the owners or ban them, of it is not possible to find the owners.

That's basically the gist of it.  See the OP if you want to really know more.  Reading the last few pages will leave you confused.  The purpose was to make sure people were posting quality posts and those that weren't posting quality posts were unable to rank up.

However, it has just begun and will take a while before everybody is aware of such a system.  Activity requirements are still present in that you can only add 14 every 2 weeks.  The idea is that you will naturally progress the more quality information that you post.

You don't understand the problem.
People with rank "Full Member" and higher don't want to give merits to the people which rank is" Member" or lower. They are not interested in it. It's a competition! Higher rank means higher rewards and others advantages.

Treating this forum as an income source IS THE PROBLEM. If you're here just for "rewards and others (sic) advantages" you're gonna have a hard time getting merits and that's pretty much the goal.

Yes, you would have to attain 250 sMerits from other users for you to progress to hero member rank, users are most likely to give merit to the posts which are more constructive, useful and helpful to the community, maybe you can start working towards that direction.

The point he's making is the following. When you are a Hero Member participating in a signature campaign you'll get more rewards when your fellow campaigners are of low ranking due to the staking system. That's an incentive to not distribute merit points to lower ranking members.

I would much prefer to merit newbies, it's not as if legendary members need it, but there aren't all that many posts I find inspiring.

If it's all about sig campaigns then a newbie who's ranked all the way up with this system will be an awe inspiring poster and will fully deserve the potential opportunities.

Hello Admins,

Although for a relatively new user like myself the implementation of the Merit system is a bit of a problem. Not because I dont agree with it, because it does make sense, but it makes it harder to rank up.
Yes, I do participate in bounty campaigns like most people here. But not just the regular social media/signature campaigns. I am a translator in my spare time and offer my services to ICOs as well.

To be honest I am not sure how to earn Merit. What can a newbie who joined in DEC 2017 teach bitcointalk that they already dont know?!
Can I expect someone to give me merit points for the translation works I do? I doubt they will, would you?
I tried to contribute by opening a topic and posting some airdrops and I have not received nor asked for any merit points.

@Admins: Is it against the rules to ask for Merit points?

Anyways would love to know what kind of contributions are likely to get me some points and in which sections I should look.

Thanks for reading!

When you need to rank up to a senior member and have the activity but no merits, beg a merit source to read your posts and give you merits. newbies, jr members, members, full members have to rank up every 2-3 months, if you could rank up like every body could rank up before, there would be no point to have merits.
Bitcoin talk works like Bitcoin now, merits should be difficult to get as more beggars (miners) try to get them.
please anyone can help me ?

Yes I can, I will help you after 2-3 months.

Thanks for your reply.

You will earn 14 activity every 2 weeks if you are active within those 2 weeks.  You will be able to become a full member by ACTIVITY standards within 2 weeks as your current activity level is 56.  However, now that there is a new merit requirement, you must also get 10 merit points in the next 2 weeks to be able to rank up as well.  Your activity will continue to increase, but merit will have to be earned.  You could have 1000 activity and still be a Jr. Member if nobody likes your posts and you have less than 10 merit.

Aren't you people getting tired of all those new Merit threads already? I feel like a spammer now, answering the same questions all the time, trying not to repeat myself. Here, in Beginners and Help even in the Bounty section, it's crazy. I thought this madness will eventually stop.
Please theymos, just send a PM to all the users with the information about the new merit system so people can stop posting every day 10000 topics with the same questions generating posts.
Lets just finish with it once and for all.

I support the introduction of merit system in general. However, I would like to point out the one big problem: in future will be big gap between the same ranks. Because some people have received merit for nothing (just because they have rank) and other people will have gain it (and it seems not to be an easy task). So in future we will see, for instance, two Full Members with 100 merit points: one received it initially and the another gained it under new conditions. So it is obvious that these two accounts must be ranked different, otherwise what is the sense of ranking. I would dare to propose two solutions:
1)   Introduce the minimum requirement of merits gained for each rank for some period (3 months / 6 months). If this requirement is not met the rank should be lowered.
2)   Introduce completely new rank system which will provide no gap between “old” and “new” ranks.

Why is it "obvious that these two accounts must be ranked different"?

Existing members didn't receive merit "for nothing", they got the MINIMUM matching their rank. Maybe the "old" Full Member in your example could argue this is unfair because he/she could have earned 1000 merits if the system was in place earlier. It's impossible to go back and re-evaluate millions of posts and re-merit everyone so everyone gets the minimum and needs to earn their next rank.

Sorry, I don't want to insist but must support my thoughts:
It is obvious for situation discribed in my post. Because if in some period in future the "old" and "new" have the same merit points (for instance 100). That obviously means that one person is much more helpful for community than another (at least during this period). Thus, they should be ranked differently!

You're saying "obviously" again and you're not really providing any substantial argument. It's far from obvious.

Merits are not based on a specific period and that's a good thing. Users should be able to take a break from the forum without being relegated to newbies due to inactivity. Users should be able to earn the ranks at their own pace and not feel forced to post to maintain the rank - signature campaigns already create enough spam.

Every day I have new questions to merit. So, I have activity 238, to the next rank I miss 2. My Merit number is 101 and for the next rank requrement is 250. Will I stay in my full member rank as far as I will not add 149 merits more? Yes? No? Maybe? Smiley

You are correct.  Unfortunately, you were one of the unfortunate that had just under the required activity to bump up to next rank prior to merit.  You do indeed need another149 merits.

in the same boat amigo... you need 250 merit now regardless if youre 240 activity or higher .... so 250 merit or you will stay full member , even if you have the required activity it doesnt matter

Sure it is possible that you might receive some merit for past posts that you made, but it seems much better to NOT be lost and your chances probably increase considerably in the prospect of receiving merit based on new posts and interactions in the forum rather than sitting back and "hoping" to receive merit.

1) Self-Custody is a right.  There is no such thing as "non-custodial" or "un-hosted."  2) ESG, KYC & AML are attack-vectors on Bitcoin to be avoided or minimized.  3) How much alt (shit)coin diversification is necessary? if you are into Bitcoin, then 0%......if you cannot control your gambling, then perhaps limit your alt(shit)coin exposure to less than 10% of your bitcoin size...Put BTC here: bc1q49wt0ddnj07wzzp6z7affw9ven7fztyhevqu9k
