Hey Guys! I hope that along with +Merit system we will soon have an opportunity of putting deMerit also! Every single day i try to learn from this forum and gain some new experience but it's so hard to do it because lot's of LQ/shitposts ! I think with deMerit it will be way easier to find useful info, +merit it and hide LQ post!
I think that giving demerit power to ordinary users would be a terrible idea. Much though I myself oft wish I could click a button and give a post a negative rating, I understand how it would chill the thoughtful expression of controversial opinions—not to mention demerit abuse for petty personal vendettas. The merit system only works positively. I strongly urge that it should stay that way. Also it will help moderators to get rid of flood so people can find more content!
If a post is really spam or otherwise absolute garbage, you already have available to you a means of not only “demeriting” it, but asking for it to be deleted: That handy “Report to moderator” link you see in the lower right-hand corner of every post. You have stats for that, too: The number of posts you’ve reported, and the percentage of how often moderators have agreed with you. My report stats currently say, “You have reported 254 posts with 100% accuracy”. Those stats are not publicly visible, except when the most active and accurate reporters occasionally have their good work commended. I sometimes dedicate an hour or three to reporting spam. Usually, I just hit it when I see it.

I give away everything I have straightaway. Then there's never enough for that one good post someone made. It's gonna be a long slog. Which is fine.

Click the +merit button next to anybody's post and you will see how much you have available. As a general rule of thumb, you will start with HALF of the merit that you have earned. You likely have 2.5 sMerit if you haven't used any so far.

I'm still confused how to get the merits, I've been trying to make a good post, but I also have not get the merits, maybe anyone can explain how easy it is to get the merits?
It's not so difficult to get some Merit. Create some topic which you think might be interesting for the others, write something useful and interesting there, and you possibly get some. I am still a Newbie but I've already got few merits .. for ex. on this topic - you can have a look to have an inspiration: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2858545.msg29340604#msg29340604

So be creative on post you've been made and make sense all your tips, suggestion and opinions you want to shares with the others.

They're not actually that easy to get. If someone agrees with you they may merit you, but mostly it seems you need to write good quality posts often and if you're lucky someone with merit notices it and merits it. Maybe this will change with time and more merit sources/distributions, as it is still early days yet.

If a post that has been merited is removed, does the user that created the post lose the associated Merits or sMerits? I thought they got to keep both, but that's the only situation were I think the concept of demerit might work well. If the post no longer exists on the forum, it's hard to argue that it deserves any forum merit.

Because somebody could just use merit for unreasonable purpose.
The merit is not undone if the post is deleted. I like having to seek positive posts, it's a nice change of pace from always looking for negative activity... but a demerit option may be necessary in the future. I'm not sure a demerit option for everyone is necessary right now but it at least seems logical to drop merit for deleted posts by mods & users... there seem to be a lot of shitposters that have gotten into a habit of deleting their prior posts after a campaign has ended to hide their crap, and maybe this would help with that also, assuming they somehow get merit for those posts.

Why i don't have any sMerit left in my account? Few days ago i have around 30 sMerit but now i have 0. we reserve the right to decay unused sMerit in the future. This is the reason? But i am using my sMerits. You handed out 33 sMerits since the introduction. I guess that's where they went. Thanks friend i found that my account may got hacked by someone. Is there was no way to delete sent sMerits?

If the post no longer exists on the forum, it's hard to argue that it deserves any forum merit. I can give an example to argue it can still be deserved: I gave Merit for this post: January 29, 2018, 04:28:47 PM: 1 to bramgg.crypto for (Deleted/Off-limits/Ignored) It was a scam-warning that deserved to be noted until the thread got deleted. Thanks friend i found that my account may got hacked by someone. Any evidence? Hacking an account only to use Merits would be a first! I can't read Russian, but your sMerits were given to several Newbies who now have exactly 10 Merit. That would make it organized account farming. I'll post your case in |list| Suspected users that are abusing merit 3.0. Can you say which sMerits were not sent by you? Is there was no way to delete sent sMerits?
No.

No. The sMerits which was sent from 30th Jan(MattLeBlanc) to 5th Jan (consicur) I created thread here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2897865.msg29799956#msg29799956

I can admit in a long-term it might be a good think improving posts quality indeed. But now I so frustrated having a fortnight left till Full member. After that I don't care, as long I can wear avatar and get higher stakes on bounties.

There was a campaign recently which required users to have certain number of earned smerits. I hope they have more such restrictions like having fixed number of merits earned last month. It is fine that you want to make money with signature campaigns but at what cost ? Most of the people do not realize that if they do not improve even after the merit system, we may see more harsh steps from admin. He said in a comment recently that he may stop all the signature campaigns in such a situation.

Why not adding also the character count value? I mean, the more characters written the more will be the value of a post.
A post with less than 30 or 50 characters is not considerated, if it has more than 50 characters it will increase the value of the post. So the rank value is more difficult to be manipulated by the exchange of merit points.

I know that ibminer and LoyceV have already answered your substantive questions; but I thought you may find this interesting, as to deleted posts generally: Somebody traded merit between alts and then deleted the posts, evidently hoping to cover his tracks. The merit is still there, though I wonder why all three involved accounts are dripping red. I think it’s one of those instances of any system necessarily being imperfect if it involves human beings. On balance, I think it’s much more important that legitimate users keep their merit for deleted posts, for such reasons as noted by LoyceV.
