Those two threads have nothing in common. And if someone got down-ranked due to deleted posts they still have their original merits. So the upgrade back to the same rank is not going to be affected by the lack of merits.

Bitcoin mining is now a specialized and very risky industry, just like gold mining. Amateur miners are unlikely to make much money, and may even lose money. Bitcoin is much more than just mining, though!

Dear admins. The system of merit has been working for more than three weeks. How does it justify itself? Are there some intermediate results? Has the number of registrations of new users decreased per week? Is there less spam in messages now? Did you receive such statistics, give an example?
Those stats would have been interesting to see. But the information regarding new member registrations has been disabled. There is no data currently for number of user registrations in January 2018 here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=stats

Is this a bug ? This user has more than enough merits and activity to be a legendary member but his current rank is still hero member. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=558519That user I linked above was just one of them I think there's more of them who have 1000 merits and 770+ activity who aren't legendary. Required activity: Legendary: random in the range 775-1030 This user has only 868 activity. He can become a Legendary in the next period or maybe only at the 1022 activity mark. He got 1000 merits by default because theymos thought it was not fair to only give 500 merits to Hero Members who were in the 775-1030 range and could become Legendary at any time. It seems interesting Was it a one time action, (to give the 500 additional merits to those who has reached the 775 activity these days), or it will continue? If it was a one time thing, I would really miss that 1 activity period that made me miss this chance... But that's life It was a one time thing to accommodate those who had already reached enough activity points to become legendary at the implementation time of the merit system. You were a couple of activity periods away from the 775 activity limit at the time. Thanks for the heads up, I've checked it, so the couple of activity periods needed were actually 2 I feel much better now, thanks Anyway, life goes on On the other hand, I'm happy that this solution can help to reduce the amount of the spam on the forum, so I won't need to skip nearly every second newbie and Jr. post on a page to find quality answers...

Nothing to do with merits. Why do you keep bringing this up here?

So the upgrade back to the same rank is not going to be affected by the lack of merits. Yeah but maybe in one case that user got downgraded to member rank before merit was introduced, so now they have original merits of a member rank, and now he is confused because he/she doesnt know what to do to remove the avatar embedded on his profile. He/she is a very rare case of an unlucky person.

When I read a topic I just read the hero member and legendary's posts, as you know in a large topic other's post only waste time. Now I am a jr member ,who read my posts to merit me? Even good and high quality posts can't improve my position and people like me , and I am a jr member with 100 posts. Merit system only disappointed me and people like me from being a hero member or even a member.
The irony is strong in this one...

As I see everyone has a lot of merits, has them after starting merit system and receives it from administration of forum not by people

Breaking news: The administrators of the forum are not people. Are we dealing with bots or aliens here?

I've been reading this foorum for a couple of years now but as usual, I usually prefer staying quietly in the background. However, now I decided to join to the active side since I have too many questions and ideas I want to discuss about. I just noticed this merit system and started to wonder if there are any quidelines or tips on how to succeed? Obviously the profile ranking has a very small effect on my life but would not hurt to have a higher rank some day in the future. So, any thoughts on why do you personally choose to give someone merit? Do you give it for some good tips, well presented opinion, creating a topic on an important matter or something else? I am just wondering what is the best possible way to contribute to this network.
I give it to people answering the questions I have regarding different matters. If I stumble over a post I find thoughtful or funny, I try to reward them too. I know that a lot of people require A+ english to merit a post. I find this less important, as I acknowledge and treasure the various nationalities represented on the forum. I fully endorse this answer I also try to give merit for obvious effort. If a new guy posts something that he/she clearly put a lot of effort into, and has thought about, even if they got it wrong, I'll probably give it some merit. I currently, due to not being a merit source, am pretty stingy with it for established members of any rank higher than the first few, even though a great many of them have posts that I think are merit worthy. I want to see people learn.

yes. maybe The question is a bit too vague, but as a generality, that's the ticket.

Just from this thread, the merit system is already broke from the start. This needs to be done away with. Just a opinion.

No it isn't. The concept is good and will eventually stop rewarding the shitposters, however it will affect also regular posters slightly depending from their actual activity, at least for those who cares about their ranks. Contribute and you will get a reward.

Contribute and you will get a reward. Yes, the concept is great, however I think people need to get more used for giving some merit to posts that deserve it. It's very hard to get some - I've started quite an active thread about privacy coins and contributed quite a lot to it, but only got 3 merits - and there are required to go from Member to Full Member. Is there anybody who succeeded in getting higher rank since the merits were introduced?

I am an advocate of adding the Merit system as an incentive to good and quality messages. It's time for the forum to make its own ICO tokens sMerit! It will be profitable and fun!

I don't think that the Merit system should resemble an ICO, or be profitable. I want to be able to give a quality post merit without feeling like it cost me something to do that.
