I'm trying to set up Gridcoin solo mining, but I'm getting a bit confused by the terminology. I want to GPU mine, to get the maximum reward per block possible - but does GPU mining just mean that the wallet and cgminer will use GPU mining, or that Boinc has to use the GPU too? Or is it enough for Boinc to only use the CPU? Otherwise, it seems that three things are using the GPU... cgminer, the wallet and Boinc? I'm not sure it's working correctly, because: - "Boinc Processing Power" is showing as only 50
- "Boinc KH/ps" is showing as 0 (is this for Boinc CPU processing or GPU processing or both?)
- "Boinc Utilization Low"
Are these things expected for GPU mining? Thanks a lot in advance https://i.imgur.com/tw4wz9H.pngBoinc avg daily credits will give you 50% more processing power. Right now it's 0 so if you find a block you will be rewarded 75 grc. After a day or so you will get some value for the avg credits and if it's >1000 then you will have processing power of 100 and will be rewarded full 150grc for each found block. Calculate boinc with CPU yes that's the way to do it. After scrypt sleep comes then you will be able to use your GPU for boinc too when your hashing power is sleeping.

Can anybody get hold of Rob ? Please ask him to get in touch with the C-Cex dev, problems with the compiling process.
On skype preferrably - C-CEX.com is the name

Thanks a lot for the info, I appreciate it. If I use only CPU with Boinc, is that likely to provide enough credits to get the full processing power of 100 (running at about 80% average on an i7 CPU)? Or will it be not enough, and will I gain more reward using GPU with Boinc (e.g. seti@home) to increase the processing power than I will lose from my mining speed (I get 1.05MH/s with Boinc GPU, and 1.30MH/s without Boinc GPU)?

To your first question: If you want to use the GPU to mine GRC it is like any other crypto coin. Just setup the miner and ready to go. It is not mandatory to use the GPU for BOINC. Soon the scrypt sleep option (upper left of your screeenshot) will be enabled and your GPU will sleep depending on your position based on your BOINC credits. During the mining sleep your GPU can do BOINC tasks to increase your position and decrease sleep time. So only BOINC and/or the miner will use your GPU depending on your settings, the wallet itself is more or less the control center. For now a i7 crunching BOINC tasks should provide enough power to reach 1000 average credits/the 150 GRC per Block. As already said the pie chart shows a percentage summarized of your current power for BOINC (50%) and your average power for boinc (50%), only if both parts are 100% the pie chart shows 100% and you can receive the full reward. Your average will grow over the next days and the pie chart will reflect that. If you temporarliy let the GPU do BOINC crunching your credits will increase much faster if you have GPU enabled projects in your list.

Thanks man, much appreciated The info on the website is a bit confusing, but your explanation makes perfect sense. I think I'll leave Boinc on CPU for now and see if that's sufficient after a few days.

I'm finding that I'm quite content with just getting my CPU rewards. I was mining at 800-850 KH/s and getting 0 to 3 blocks a day before, but that also rendered my computer (my primary machine) basically unusable. Now I'm still getting a decent numbers of coins, my BOINC rate is the same, and I can still use the machine Plus I got that horrid AMD card out of my computer and put my nvidia GTX 650 Ti Boost back in it. It might be an older card with less power, but it outperformed the R9 290 for me. Likely due to AMDs terrible drivers.

Gridcoin Pool Instructions: - Note: The pool is in alpha so I recommend pointing an extra instance of cgminer at it until we have it debugged. - The main difference between a traditional pool and the gridcoin pool is this pool requires the gridcoin-qt client to authenticate to the pool (in order to send boinc information over SSL) before you can mine. Gridcoin QT will do this on every re-start and once every 30 minutes, and also when you push the "re-authenticate" button. You can also go to mining | pools and push that button (going to be used for a future purpose when more pools exist). - This pool does not require a block to be found before you start accruing payments. - Once every 30 minutes we will repopulate the leaderboard to show progress of all miners. - Once per day, the pool does a currency sweep; it sends all of the payments earned to the individual accounts. Withdrawals are done by the user. - You can see your progress by going to Account and refresh the page. - Modify CGMiner with the following settings to connect to the pool: { "pools" : [ { "url" : " http://pool.gridcoin.us/Getwork.aspx?user=yourweb_miner_usernamehere&pass=your_miner_password", "user":"thisdoesnotmatterbutneedstobehere", "pass":"lol" } ], "api-listen" : true, "api-port" : "4001", "api-allow" : "W:127.0.0.1", "intensity" : "17", ... - Add 3 lines to your gridcoin config: pooluser=your_web_username **Note: This is the master web account in the pool, NOT the miner account name! poolpassword=your_web_password poolurl=http://pool.gridcoin.us To test these settings, go into gridcoin to mining | Pools and click Authenticate, it should show success or fail. Best of Luck Mining! Rob H. Questions: 1) How do we configure cgminer if we launch via .bat or command line...? Do we need all the api-listen, api-port, api-allow stuff, because I have no idea what flags to use from the command line for that. 2) Are web_miner_username and pooluser the same thing...? If not, Do I choose my own web_miner_username and pooluser name or are there specific ones I should be using...? 3) Is the miner_password the same as the web_password...? If not, do I choose my own passwords for each one or are there specific nes I should use...? Thanks!

Hey TribalBob, I found this in Cryptocointalk, this was posted from another user there: I use an external cgminer (with cgwatcher in fact) and it is working correctly. I know when scrypt sleep start I will have to "play" with the integrated cgminer or find a way to make it sleep, but so far I used this. I do not have a cgminer.conf, I have all this in the command line Here is my command line without the new pool, no need to specify an API (this is for a R9 270 and a 6950) --scrypt -o http://127.0.0.1:9339 -u xxx -p xxx --auto-fan --gpu-memclock 1325,1375 --gpu-engine 840,1050 --thread-concurrency 8192,16000 -I 19,18 -g 1 -w 256,256 -d 0,1 Here is the command line for my PC using the new pool (this is for a 7950) --scrypt -o http://pool.gridcoin...=falha&pass=xxx -u falha -p xxx --shaders 1024 --auto-fan --gpu-memclock 1375 --gpu-engine 1140 --thread-concurrency 8192 --api-listen true --api-port 4001 --api-allow W:127.0.0.1 -I 19 -g 1 -w 256 --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- As for the web_miner_username I think it's the name you give when you create your worker and pooluser it's the name you open account in the pool. As for the Miner_password it's the password you select when creating your worker and the web_password it's the password you selected when you created account in the pool. I have try this but without success, I think it's because I was using CGminer version 3.7.2, I had to edit cgm0 and cgm1 on roaming folder and it worked for me this way. Hope this helps
