Hi Unthinkingbit here is my devcoin addy for generation coins 18xskifRMWUtMzbHSzQi7rEWF5upmktgF2

Thanks for updating your address, please check that it's correct in the file:

am I to think that I will be unable to send these to invest in stocks on cryptostocks.com ?

Once they get to your wallet, you'll be able to send them to cryptostocks, vircurex, or any other address. The limitation is that generation coins can not go directly to cryptostocks or vircurex.

Yes you are right, the problem with the generation share is that vircurex demands them to be transfered at least once prior the usage,

Confirmed that the addy in https://raw.github.com/Unthinkingbit/charity/master/bounty_22.csv for me is correct.

Thank you both for your fast and informative responses, you have encouraged me to read a lot more about devcoin Smiley

Just to say I added my banner to my site http://www.ltcmusic.com/

and it looks terrible Tongue so I tried the other submissions and they look better, so i'll have a go at tidying mine up and maybe a few others.

the banner links back to http://devtome.com/doku.php so if anyone stumbles on my site they will find out about Devcoins as well Smiley

Liking everything I reading about devcoins and filled my last of my signature space with a link to devtome to Cheesy

anyways back to reading more and banner tweaking.

Could someone throw down a brief overview of how they view devcoin at this point, whether it's achieving it's original goals as intended upon its creation.

It is indeed achieving the original goals; DVC was able to finance developmenet in various directions. You can review it in this thread, aswell in the DVB thread.
There was hardware devices produced, products paid and shipped for devcoins, and various developments financed and rewarded.
The 3d printing hype takes the whole thing since a short time to a new level.

DVC has funded bounties on dvc and other currencies and all have been successfully paid. The intent is to slowly scale it up so that dvc can support larger projects including up to a "House 3d Printer" that can build a home ground up by "printing" it.

I don't quite get why... Perhaps it is because mined coins need 120 blocks to mature and their software cannot handle that for some reason.
It's because of they way they appear to the devcoind client. They appear as "generated" rather than the normal sent/received status. The balance of the generated coins aren't picked up via the devcoin API calls usually used to see if funds have been received.

Bitparking merge mining pool has temporarily stopped merge mining due to a issue with version 1 and version 2 blocks. I hope to fix this in the next 24-36 hours but in the meantime it will mean slow devcoin transaction confirmations times unless someone picks up the mining slack.

Generated transactions don't show up with an address they were generated to, while sent transactions show which address they were sent to.

That's the main reason why they don't get picked up.

The only exchange I know of that can pick up generated transactions is MtGox, but they don't do DVC.

I thought it was odd when I saw the vids. On devda.ch of the printed bike etc. I hadn't noticed in the thread any 3d print related projects thought it was coincidence as its something I had been giving a lot of thought.

this vid - http://youtu.be/jQ-aWFYT_SU - was the first time I saw anything about it, Seeing the model with all the cogs to realise this thing has moving parts blew me away.

Been trying to think up ideas to justify buying one  Grin

http://youtu.be/yYMAfNM_jpU - using a Kinect (14 mins in) as scanning device for 3d printing

Looking in a block explorer, for example:
http://glari.ch:2750/block/28086d694d18548cc83420ff3e09d9d3dd0f2fee0c55a25facca9e6696b635bc

you can see the generation transaction:

Code:
1FgDoZQLYE8y1rDAPhT3KbDNVQ5dy2AyRw: 5085
1M2ZXZMwnq8HWs3kuFnU2qtMdCPdaKTBTH: 45000

would it be possible to make a python script or something to read blocks and determine what address received the generation?

would it be possible to make a python script or something to read blocks and determine what address received the generation?

Which is probably how MtGox is doing it. I do know they are using custom software they made themselves, while the others are most likely just doing API calls to the daemon.

Just from my p2pool mining, for instance, at one point, bitcoind started showing the addresses the generated coin belong to, and they get counted in my p2pool receive address...

litecoind, on the other hand, using older code, doesn't show the addresses the coin is generated to.

I've activated merge mining on the bitparking pool stratum servers now so you may notice an increase in hash rate and difficulty on Devcoin.
