A bug was found and fixed today. This bug possibly caused mining problems for some users since 22-23.02.2013, so now things may get better if you were affected.

I will be nice here ,  it seems the problem is still around .. I switch pools on the same settings for over 24 hours and not one problem .. here ever few minutes my miners loses connection  means i earn less .

So please put more time in or the pool is a lost cause  " going going gone "  as you have seen it's going down hill  for a bit now .

Creating a Bitcoin client that fully implements the network protocol is extremely difficult. Bitcoin-Qt is the only known safe implementation of a full node. Some other projects attempt to compete, but it is not recommended to use such software for anything serious. (Lightweight clients like Electrum and MultiBit are OK.)

People can mine wherever they like, of course. I'm just pointing out that 50kb isn't really helping confirm transactions, which is the point of mining.

Sure, I understand that and appreciate the info.

If your analyzing "apparent" pool block size's maybe it would be productive to create a thread with a chart?  Then we all could compare and contrast.

Please note that DeepBit still appears to be creating 50kb blocks at times - most pools are now upgrading to blocks 10x or 15x larger. Small blocks mean that transactions take longer to confirm.

If you're still mining on DeepBit, please consider moving to a pool that a more reasonable block size policy (basically - any other pool). Most of them seem to have lower fees too.

Your notifying the community of a pools apparent block size is completely appropriate and probably a good thing.

But please keep your opinions of where a person should be mining and why to yourself and let miners exercise their freedom of choice.  Whether you, or others, agree with that choice, or not, is immaterial.

Thanks for the info though.
Take Care,
Sam

sam seems to be a deepbit fan boy taking this agresive stance  whats left of deepbit is gpu miners who run on autopilot  when asics start to arive in few weeks  deepbit is finished   peace
sam deepbit and tycho:) so long  was nice ride while it lasted

oh and my miners are returning failed shares? si deep bit down?

I'm no Deepbit "fan boy".  But I'm not an enemy of Deepbit either.

I don't like it when people try to influence the free market.  Let people who use a service decide.

I very much appreciate the information Mr. Hearn supplied and if my words were a bit harsh I apologize for that.  But I stand by the basic point I was attempting to make and that is let the free market work.
Thanks,
Sam

Deepbit still pushes out the occasional 200+ KB block.  All pools create small blocks at times.  The way bitcoind handles putting a block together means right after a previous block is found you will likely not be including a significant number of transactions, especially if the previous block was a large one that included most of the transactions your node had record of.

Yeah, what I have heard is that there are multiple nodes configured differently. If you look at the sizes of blocks being created by DeepBit it's clear there's a 50kb hard cap somewhere, the sizes are too perfectly close to that boundary to be anything else. Of course other pools also have a variety of nodes configured differently, but 50kb is pretty low.

People can mine wherever they like, of course. I'm just pointing out that 50kb isn't really helping confirm transactions, which is the point of mining.

i tghought the pint o fmining is making that coin? lol

loooks i was mistaken;)

Coin generation is only a portion of point of mining.  As reward halves it is a smaller portion of the point of mining.  Without transaction confirmations there is no Bitcoin system.  So transactions are a much more important part of mining in the long term.

Which is why I question the wisdom of modifying block sizes to keep the transaction fees low.

Tycho,
Could you post your block size and configuration over at organofcorti's new thread?

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=151387.msg1606559#msg1606559

It may help alleviate some of the paranoia about your pool.  Or it may not.  Smiley

At this moment our pool created a wrong branch of the blockchain, but not because of being 0.8+.
I'm working on the fix now.

Welcome to my bitcoin mining pool: https://deepbit.net - Both payment schemes (including PPS), instant payout, no invalid blocks !

Question:

On my screen https://deepbit.net/payments the payment showing up at the top has "12.03.2013 04:00" as date and the amount "1.01"

The transaction link is https://blockexplorer.com/tx/4439404783d82ad06680a0d8d6019b8c2644ca7d7fe45065465cda54e354fce5

But then I go to that link it says

"Error
No such transaction"

Is this transaction going to post eventually or is it lost due to the recent issues?

Thanks,
Nima

Pool mining is paused while I'm moving it to the correct blockchain branch.
Sorry, but we have to wait.

Hey there Tycho,

I'm having an issue with one of my payments. It is showing as paid out, and the money was "paid" from the pool, but it never arrived in my wallet.

I look at the details of the transaction, and it says Error - no such transaction. The payment was on the 21st of March.
https://blockexplorer.com/tx/b4df7ca2072beb0974402f855555a26c890b43c2cc7b92c80d1f87f4f456808b

Please let me know if this should be posted elsewhere - i'm new to these forums.

Thanks for the assistance!

EDIT: The issue has been resolved - thanks!
