Whale's MH at coinmine.pl is dropping to zero, but total network MH is unchanged at 1500?!
Is the network MH number just wrong, or did the whale just switch to other pools or solomine?

I was just thinking about that, I'd say solo, or theres a chinese pool we dont know about.
If he goes solo hes protected from someone ddosing the pool hes mining at.
it takes a while for the network to realise the change
staying above 51% also is a way to make sure you get >90% of all blocks

I only see around 250 MH from all the pools combined.
Where can I see the latest blocks? If the rate of new blocks is unchanged, then overall network MH is unchanged

Edit: I only see 5 blocks generated by all pools in last hour. does anybody know total blocks found last hour?

Well if he really did take off then we're stuck at this diff for the next week...gravity well needed.

Plus when we knock the diff back down, at the current trading price everyone and their mother are going to jump onto these pools if the whale doesn't come back first.  Easy mining days are over gentlemen.

Closed source at first, no question. Then after few months when DarkCoin has become de-facto anonymous transfers enabling currency release the source.

If people don't trust their whole wallet balance to the closed source plugin, they can have their main wallet running without the plugin, and xfer the amounts they want to transfer anonymously to the another wallet with the plugin.

Agree

Open Source or Closed Source?

Closed source until beta/release to protect the coin from clones while it is being developed.  Clones are not bad, and it can provide a legitimate competitive rivalry among developers, but I think doing it this early would be a mistake pragmatically due to greed and capitalistic manipulation.

After that, it must, must, MUST be open source -- the community is for the most part somewhat more knowledgeable in cryptography and the need for anonymity in transactions, and you simply cannot have this if it is closed source.  Anecdote: this is why Truecrypt is infinitely more popular than any other data encryption.  No matter how good your intentions, no-one is going to trust a closed source client these days.  No one even trusts "trustworthy" companies like Google with their data as they did all doe-eyed in 2008 with their (in)famous "do no evil" motto when they, too, simply bend to the will of their masters.

Again, I agree, but need to keep reading, LOL, I'm behind!

I think it should remain closed source a while after going live with it. Some people are going to use the plugin no doubt, even though most wouldn't. However, the promise that the source will be released soon, and the fact that it is working, will affect the market price positively (and thus general interest towards the coin). And also it creates yet another climax point when there will be countdown to the release of the source etc. All about marketing. Smiley

I like the way you think, please stick around Wink

"IF" we are going to implement a gravity well, we will have to do a hard fork. This means you will NOT lose any coins that have already been mined.

What is everyone opinion on doing this? I can see doing it if the "Whale" comes back after diff comes down. But MAYBE we should leave it and see IF he/she comes back.

But we need to get ahold of all the Exchange and Pool operators.

Can we get ahold of them and have them send me an email so I can make sure we get it scheduled and I can send out a message to them to know when the new code is live.

Please have them email me at: internetape@me.com

Thanks,
Kyle

Darkcoin would market itself if it went live with closed source.  But most definitely not in a positive way.

"Anonymity with closed source software?  LOL"

Maybe, MAYBE it would have worked in a pre-NSA-Snowden era.  But these days?  ABSOLUTELY NOT.

I don't think you get it, people know it will be open sourced "soon" and while trusting people use it, it will be  proven effective, then another bit bump when it's finally opened!!  We have to protect Eduffield's work until he gets the word out loud and clear.

Btw, I trust him because there is NO WAY a governmental agency could produce, even a bitcoin clone, LOL, they're too incompetent and unmotivated (sorry, no offence to those who hold Gov jobs, but you know it's true Wink  )

The state of the network

1.) We launch open source and hope we gain a good name in the community. If done correctly, all of the other coins will just be clones that don't add anything original. I would still be working on other functionality and improvements, so we'd always be ahead of the rest.

2.) We implement all of the unique technology as a closed source plugin. The plugin would be shipped separately and added to a folder to enable the privacy features, it would also work normally if it didn't find the plugin. This is how NVidia ships their closed source drivers for their video cards with linux.

Which should it be?

+1 for open source. Closing the source would hinder adoption because of limited usability (unless you are going to provide binaries for every possible OS) and limited trust (personally I would not use it if it's closed). IMHO people would clone this coin with binary plugin anyway, I don't see anything preventing them from doing so.

But we should first do something about the network being raped.

Totally disagree, it's like allowing all the alt coins to rape eduffield's work!  They will anyway in the end, but let his work gain recognition first before giving it all away!

Hello!
I install miner for DarkCoin on Xubuntu 13.04:
sudo -s
git clone https://github.com/ig0tik3d/darkcoin-cpuminer-1.2.git
cd darkcoin-cpuminer-1.2
./autogen.sh
bash: ./autogen.sh: Permission denied.
What's the problem?

use sudo before the argument, it gives you root permissions and also, use https://github.com/ig0tik3d/darkcoin-cpuminer-1.2.c.git as it runs much faster Smiley

Edit, fixed (I think, LOL)
