There was no talk about Aldo getting his rematch he wanted it so badly it looks like both fighters are losing their steam, why not let Dana hatch that idea, I'm sure Aldo wants his revenge so badly, and McGregor should give him a chance, Dustin got his rematch, why not Aldo in the 145 pounds it has the making of a big hype.
Aldo needs to hype the rematch and if Conor McGregor looses one more fight then he might think about giving another opportunity for Aldo as he still thinks that he can still be a title contender in the 155 pound division and i am sure he does have the confidence but it wont be easy.

All McGregor needs to do is give opportunity to fighters that are planning to retire and let them earn a fair amount of money before settling down for good Grin.

^  Sandhagen is pretty good, but that price.  He’s like 1.23ish in most books.  So unless you’re willing to lay that kind of chalk, it’s better to pass or bet on the underdog.  Frankie Edgar is no joke.  The match could be closer than what the lines are showing us.
I haven't checked the odds admittedly yet as its a bit too far away for m, but I'll likely be putting it down as a Sandhagen by decision which should bolster the odds a little bit, at least it usually does quite nicely. The thing is when I'm usually super confident on a fighter, that's usually when they end up getting beat in embarrassing fashion, so wanted convincing otherwise!

I'm still sticking with my 30-27 prediction, for anyone reading this DO NOT back based on my over confidence, I'm simply quite biased towards Sandhagen.

It's really good to look at the early lines to see if there's some value.  I think that Overeem one is value as it could move closer as we get to the day of the event.  And if you really want Sandhagen, it's best to wait for the line to move towards Edgar since he's a fan favorite.  Lots of money should prolly be going to him a couple of days before the event.

That Sandhagen via decision prop at 1.95 is ok I guess.  But best to wait for a better line.  Just my 2c.

You cannot underestimate the striking of Alexander Volkov and he does have knockout power and Alistair Overeem is not the monster he once was and he is prone to great strikers and there is no doubt this will be a great match up but i will be picking Alexander Volkov to win the fight.

Then lets hope Alexander find out how to counter Overeems knees and strength. Also I think that Overeems wrestling and grappling is on a higher level than Alexanders. Alexander could counter Overeem only with his age and ambitions. Alexander is karate and kickboxing. Overeem already proved by becoming K1 champion, that he could compete with high class strikers.

Questions remain over whether Conor will keep his word, and continue to fight inside the UFC, and whether or not he still has what it takes. Honestly, Conor looked somewhat decent up until the point he was cuddling with the floor. I thought he was outstriking, and dealt pretty well with the takedown of Poirier.

He needs one big fight from a tough fighter to get back in the limelight I believe a trilogy between him and Poirier can get him back if he wins in their third match, the loss is very surprising, Connor is a known striker but was beaten on his game, I'm sure he'll keep his promise that he'll concentrate on rebuilding himself, one more loss and he is busted.

Fighting 'tough' fighters isn't the best game plan for him right now, but I don't think there's anyone in his division that he can't beat on a good day except for maybe Khabib. Connor won't be 'busted' after another loss but it's doing damage to his brand for sure and needs a win to bring back faith in him. IF he loses his next fight I'm sure his PPV numbers will start to dwindle, but the last fight was the second highest PPV buys in history second only to his fight against Khabib. Even if he loses his next fight hype can always be built for rematches with several people like Diaz, Aldo, Poirier etc. I think Poirier trilogy will be his best next bet and the easiest fight to get done. Neither of them deserve a title shot right now and both seem willing to fight again and Poirier knows this fight will be his biggest payday. McGregor still gets the PPV draws so he's far from done. If he does take the Poirier rematch and loses that isn't going to be a good look though. He really needs to win that one. If McGregor does get back in form maybe someday down the line he can meet Khabib again which would almost certainly break UFC records. One or both of the fighters could bow out after that one.

What does everyone think about Jake Paul fighting Ben Askren? It's a boxing match and obviously Askren specialises in wrestling, but I still think this is a risky fight for Logan and could get his ass handed to him. If he doesn't it'll be pretty embarrassing for Askren.

We already have a little discussion. Everyone are welcomed.

McGregor - Poirier trilogy, McGregor - Diaz trilogy, McGregor - Khabib 2 - What next, McGregor vs <fighter> last blood ? McGregor vs <fighter> Revenge? McGregor vs <fighter> reunion? Division is full of talented fighters, why to schedule Conor to fight against them?
Hope Dana White wont follow the lead of money and fans only and makes a fight between someone from the top versus fresh blood.

Doubt the Khabib fight will happen until Connor has proved he's worthy of a rematch with him as he's said things along the same lines. I don't think that fight would be a good fight for Connor right now either even though it's the biggest fight from a money point of view.

I've made little statistics of Conor McGregor fight in 3 different weight division (this is not only UFC, but his whole career).

Welterweight 2-2
Featherweight 14-1 (8-1 was probably made in UFC)
Lightweight 6-2

I dont know in which weight division he should compete. Welterweight - there is Kamaru Usman on top. Lightweight - he had just lost there to Poirier, I guess he could be Fergusson. Gaethje, Oliveira, Chandler are on a higher level than Conor imo. That is why welcome back to Featherweight, where he got more wins in his career. Ortega, Holloway, Volkanovski are someone he is able to beat.

^  He hasn’t fought much the last couple of years and he could be in more of a major decline than most think imho.  On the other hand, all the other top fighters at LW have been leveling up except Ferguson.  Oliviera being the best example of somebody who ‘leveled up’.

Anyone willing to point out to me why I shouldn't be backing COry Sandhagen as much as I am? I only see this fight going one way, ignoring the chance of any lucky shots. Cory has always impressed me in fights, even when he appears to be struggling he has a certain volume that's just fun to watch. I think he's going to out pressure his opponent, and wear him down across the three rounds.

I don't see a knockout in this fight,  but its going to be a war right until the end. I honestly think we could see a 30-27 win by Cory. This might just be because I'm biased as I love him as a fighter, but I just don't seen a Edgar win (obviously every fighter in MMA has a chance of winning).

In my opinion, in what I see, Cory Sandhagen has the stat advantage and that's it he may have a chance on Frankie Edgar, but Don't underestimate and forget the number of wins he has, he might lose to Aldo and Holloway but his fight with Yair Rodriguez that is what I think was good about Frankie Edgar, but I think both are Ok in fighting on the ground I think that both have good striking power, this might end up bloody indeed,

The number of fights for Frankie Edgar over Sandhagen goes to show how Frankie Edgar has the most experience but Sandhagen had the talent in giving a good fight to Edgar so keep that in mind, So I am still profound about giving my Bet for both fighters, and that is up to the most experience a fighter has.

His record shows he is a Lightweight fighter and that is where he had is success but i doubt he could cut down the weight to fit in that division and whenever he was cutting weight during his reign he looked depleted on weigh ins. There is no way he could be competitive against any top fighters in the Welter Weight division. The game plan of Conor is still the same and all the fighters have a blue print on how to tackle his style and i wont be surprised if he returns and losses again and retire for good.

Breaking news for UFC 258 event scheduled for February 13 is that Bobby Green vs. Jim Miller is added to the fight card and made it more interesting to watch!
Bobby Green record is 27-11-1 and he lost against Thiago Moises in last fight, and similar for Jim Miller 32-15 who lost against Vinc Pichel.

Chris Weidman tested positive on covid and his fight with Uriah Hall is canceled.
Main event for that card is Kamaru Usman vs Gilbert Burns for welterweight title and co-main Kelvin Gastelum vs Ian Heinisch.

But let's first prepare for this weekend fight of heavyweight giants Overeem vs Volkov.
Volkov is great fighter but I am not sure why he is so big favorite with bookmakers, and Overeem with last two wins against Harris and Sakai should not be underestimated here.

Yeah, I don't think Conor will never be truly "done", however his flamboyant attitude does seem to have been watered down a little since his previous fights, and to be honest I quite like  that side of him. However, the reason Conor brings in so many PPVs, and fans from all walks of life is maingly due to his attitude to other fighters, but not only that he's been known to deliver on the night also. Casual fans, and dedicated ones will often quote his "who the fook is this guy" line. When you think of Conor you think of trash talking, for example his fight between him, and mayweather the press conference before that was comedy gold. Now, Conor only really showed respect to Poirier, but are we going to see Conor continue along that path, or will he revert to his usual tactics, and put on a show? He's a fantastic fighter, and I love his style. I'm actually a big fan of him, but I have questions of whether he wants to be there fighting, and I know that he's stated that he's looking to fight multiple times in the UFC this year, but I'm not sure if there's any weight behind that.

I do think he needs to fight a tough opponent next though, just because I'd like him to prove the doubters wrong, and partially prove me wrong too. I want to see Conor at his best, because I don't think anyone can argue otherwise, he's very exciting to watch, but also does a lot of good for mixed martial arts.

In that weight class, there's several tough fighters, and the reason why I think its important for him to go for a tough fight, is you'll quickly get left behind in the division otherwise, because its absolutely rammed full of talent.

That's not to say Conor will disappear, but as a fan of Conor I want to see him wanting to prove everyone wrong, and becoming the best fighter he can be, because that's when us fans will be in for a treat.

Those losses were also a weight class above at 145.  The match vs Sandhagen is at 135.  All questions and doubts about Edgar’s weight cut and how he performs at 135 have been answered in his last bout vs Muhnoz.  He won it as a 2 to 1 underdog.

For sure Sandhagen is a step up in competition.  But not that huge imho.  Not for Edgar...  Now I say all this stuff and will look like a genius this weekend or a dumb idiot.  Rofl.  Cheesy

All fighters are done at some point but I think Connor has a lot left in him, but with every fight he loses his stock goes down and probably along with his hunger for the game and when your heart's not in it any more you rarely win fights. If he just gets battered in all his next matches it'll be pretty embarrassing and he'll have to walk away at some point. His sponsorship deals rely on him to keep fighting though as nobody is going to keep offering him big bucks if he's not active or in the public eye so he needs to get back on track really for multiple reasons. His other business interests rely on it as well. Nobody is buying Proper 12 whisky because they think it's better than all the rest; they're buying it because it's Connor's and the stock in that brand will decrease drastically if he walks away. Connor was one of those fighters that got casuals attention because he's entertaining in and out of the cage and had lots of witty and quotable lines. Up until his loss against Diaz he also looked unbeatable. Trash talking every fight is just going to get tiring and it has its place. He's probably not going to do it to fighters he respects but I'm sure we haven't seen the last of it especially if he fights someone he doesn't like like Khabib again. I suspect he'll probably reign the trash talking in a bit though as you have to grow up at some point.

But thanks to Conor, now everyone tried to produce something. Dana White - Howlers head, Poirier - sous for example, Khabib - mobile carrier "Eagle Mobile".

No doubt Munhoz was great back then it was a close fight but he can see that Pedro Munhoz is more aggressive here and Frankie Edgar likes to play it focally and cleverly, I know that Pedro Munhoz is upset about the scorecard but Frankie Edgar on my perspective had down a great job by moving around and giving a combination of shots and smartly fight the aggressive Munhoz, even though Edgar won this he is still limping because of Pedro Munhoz kicks.

Now about Sandhagen after remembering that fight of Edgar and Munhoz maybe you are right if Edgar could win this you may really end up looking like a genius.

Also there is Jorge Masvidal's tequila and according to a news item last year, Jon Jones had an open bottle of this on the seat of his car when he was caught drunk driving again hehehe.

In any case, I predict Dana's next storyboards might be Conor vs. Nate in the welterweight division. Michael Chandler vs. Justin Gaethje and Dustin Poirier vs. Charles Oliviera.

Cant see Tony Ferguson in your list  Grin Times flies and he is not getting any younger. He is like a talented player, that spends all time on the bench, while other play. This is all due to his controversies with UFC bosses.

As to Conor vs Diaz fight - I think Conor is Danas milking cow and Conor needs to fight someone high ranked (Nate Diaz has no rank right now). Or someone that he will win for sure and get a high ranked fight next. While Diaz is someone Conor might lose and he is not from top15.

Just to be clear, I’m not saying Edgar would def win.  All I’m saying is it’s gonna be closer than what the lines are showing us.  Maybe the books think Sandhagen could do Edgar like he did Moraes..  Dunno.  I pretty much doubt it.  Edgar has the wrestling advantage and could grind Sandhagen against the cage.

Nobody is buying Proper 12 whisky because they think it's better than all the rest; they're buying it because it's Connor's and the stock in that brand will decrease drastically if he walks away.

Nobody buys Proper 12 because it cost a lot. This blend cost as much as decent single malt, which quality is way greater than Proper 12. Proper 12 is like Jack Daniels, but cost 20-30% more. I like how our local retailers increase Proper 12 price every time Conor fight, and add a discount  Grin

But thanks to Conor, now everyone tried to produce something. Dana White - Howlers head, Poirier - sous for example, Khabib - mobile carrier "Eagle Mobile".

Depends where you live. I'm not sure it's even available in England or at least it wasn't so if some shops stock it they've probably imported it which will pump up the price. Regardless, if Conor disappears from the fighting world that's going to take away a lot of eyeballs from his whisky which he probably needs to keep in the limelight for it to be successful until it supersedes him.

Conor and Nate would be a good fight, though it's one that could be a bit dicey for Conor, but with Diaz being out of action for quite some time that could be an advantage. I think the Diaz and Poirier trilogy fights will both be on the cards at some point assuming Conor keeps fighting. I think the Poirier one is the most likely to happen especially given that they both seemed to want it and both fighters will think it's a fight they can easily win since they've done it once each before. It's for sure the biggest payday Poirier will get right now so if Conor wants it as well he'd be silly not to make it happen.

Rofl.  Cheesy

I am frantic here for thinking that way, but in my perspective Edgar could win this, and if your saying that this could be a close fight as well, and I don't want to say that Edgar could easily defeated Sandhagen, but I think that this fight could be another bloodier fight or it could end up on the floor as well.

Looks like the Poirier trilogy fight is definitely in the works:

Quote
BEST OF THREE Conor McGregor ‘buzzing’ for Dustin Poirier trilogy ‘for all the marbles’ as American confirms it’s in the pipeline

https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/13942303/conor-mcgregor-dustin-poirier-rematch-ufc/

Makes sense for everyone involved really especially if both fighters want it. It's going to be red panty night for Poirier for sure. I'm not sure who I'd pick in a rematch. Conor needs to get the job done though to get back on track. Losing again is going to put him back by quite a bit.

Quote
McGregor has tonight uploaded a lengthy caption on Instagram where he all-but confirms the two warriors will go at it for a third time for 'all the marbles'.

And the triumphant Poirier appeared to confirm it too, as he tweeted shortly after: "You know we are going to do it a third time."

Alongside a highlights video from the fight, former two-weight world champ McGregor wrote: "What a trilogy I now have on my hands. Exciting!

"With a handle on the leg kicks I will get back to having fun in there. I was in second gear cruising this fight. Best condition I’ve ever been in.

"After the wrestling and clinch exchanges my shots still held their pop. First time for me with this so I am very encouraged to keep going.

"It was the first time I did not use/nor need the stool between rounds also. I did need the stool after though that’s for sure.

"I am extremely happy I did not need to use the stool between rounds here anyway. Another first for me!

Maybe he should use the stool this time. It's going to be interesting seeing how he adapts his game and deals with those leg kicks which he's obviously going to be vary weary of. Is Poirier going to just keep kicking or try something else?
