@7788bitcoin. I speculate that Kevin Holland might only be another hyped fighter similar to the other Derek Brunson victim, Edmen Shahbazyan who is managed and very much hyped by Ronda Rousey hehehe.

Another illegal knee.

It just did, Eryk Anders said that he truly made an error on the heat of the battle and certainly I think this is not intentional because he is upset about what happened

You know what is strange, both fights has that illegal knee to the head to a grounded opponent, but Petr Yan got a disqualification, while Eryk Anders has a no contest for same action. What is because Yans fight was for a champs belt, while Anders fight was just a regular? Or there is something other behind those situations?

I think ene1980 summed it up nicely a couple of posts ago, it is likely the fact that different jurisdictions tend to interpret the finer details of the unified rules a bit differently (or not at all for that matter), however, I would think that it might be due to that and the fact that it was a title fight that did it fo Yan.

Yeah..  Weird card how it ended up.  Two no contests and some very unexpected underdog wins.  That’s the beauty of MMA.  Stats don’t matter much, unlike most other sports out there.  I think I mentioned that Jonathan Martinez is a top 15 guy here or at another UFC thread somewhere...  I take it back.  Cheesy

Yeah, the beauty and a sheer frustration when you know that someone has everything to be in the top (insert any name) and then just gets obliterated by a lucky punch, set back by a DQ, loses because of a freak accident (Michael Chandler in Bellator comes to mind...) Smiley It's so easier to watch other sports where you can mathematically work out the best odds. I said it before and I'll say it again, it's a coin toss Cheesy Might as well throw darts blindfolded at fighters faces and decide that way, seems legit as anything.

Ronda Rousey and his team knows how to hype a fighter and Edmen Shahbazyan was the victim in this situation, he was a good prospect but was thrown to the top of the fight card too soon and it is a gamble the UFC took as they give opportunities for young prospects and even Jon Jones was in the same situation when he ran with it and he turned out to be the best fighter in history. Kevin Holland came into my limelight when i started seeing him the fight card too often last year and then started following him as he fought 5 times last year and won every fight in impressive fashion.

Both fights are in same fighting organization, both fights were in same state, same commission and etc. Google that situation and here is the answer why one fight ended with no contest, other a DQ. If the illegal strikes was made before third round, then this it will be a no contest, if the third round has been already started, then this is a DQ.

The rules are conveyed to the fighter by the referee individually and it is not a group discussion subject, Petr Yan who last fought in Abu Dhabi and i do not know what rules they follow and Eryk Anders last fought in Florida, yes the fights are taking place in Las Vegas and they are yet to follow the unified rules.

According to the new unified rules, a grounded opponent means his palm or fist is completely rested in the floor or his knee should be completely resting in the floor, earlier if one finger was on the ground you are a grounded opponent and Florida follows the new unified rules.

So same organisation and same commission in the last two fight cards does not mean anything as the fighters are entirely different and if you have two different rules a fighter can get confused in the moment and can land a strike. Nevada should change to the new rule and every commission should follow the same unified rules.

Looking forward to see main event Derek Brunson vs Kevin Holland and I am looking at their stats showing that Holland is higher and with bigger reach advantage, have better striking accuracy and takedown defence is on Brunson side.
Odds are suggesting that Kevin Holland is favorite but I would not write off Brunson who won last 3 of his fights.

I don't want to forger cherry on top and here goes Aljamain Sterling again parading with this champ belt while he still can Cheesy

Kevin Holland is also on a winning streak winning a record 5 fights last year and Derek Brunson is on a three fight win streak but i give the advantage to Kevin Holland because of his reach advantage and you cannot trust Brunson all the time as we have seen him having complete off days and getting defeated badly.

Let him enjoy his moment, fighting for the belt is a big deal and he won it even though it was a disqualification. The rematch is coming up and that shows whether he could improve and really win the fight.

I have to say I was not aware of that rule, thank you for sharing. Seems like a stupid rule, but it's a rule non the less. However, it still begs the question of what classifies as an intentional knee and what does not, and that seems to be more of a personal opinion than a written rule. Seeing that is subject to judges' interpretation (and in at least 90% of illegal knees the intent is not clear), then the rule that Marc Ratner explains has even less merit as it is a strictly defined rule set upon a strictly arbitrary base point. I am not surprised everyone is completely confused by all of it.

Nice Search you got there that is why I am giving you something, and I never realize that until you guys pointed it out and a good question indeed many fans really did ask about the previous fight and the current illegal knee but both are the same offense, now this is really clear because that is the rule but I still have a question and why is the rule like these, why not make all illegal knee disqualification why it needed to be on the third round to make it a disqualification, but rules and rules, I am just curious about the rules and take it and think that I am not reading it right now.

BIG NEWS GUYS!
Finally we have full crowd back in for April 24th in Jacksonville, Florida with UFC 261 amazing fight card like Dana White announced.
Just look at the main event Kamaru Usman vs Jorge Masvidal, then Valentina Shevchenko vs Jessica Andrade and my favorite Rose Namajunas vs Weili Zhang, and I am just hoping everyone will be healthy and ready for this, and there will be four UFC events in April all approved by the Nevada Athletic Commission!

I had a terrible night last time out prediction wise. I tried a different approach, and went for the underdogs, even though I was favoring others, and well the night went totally unpredictably in a lot of ways. The amount of DQ's, and illegal blows we've had in the last 2/3 weeks is getting silly. I wish I could bet on a DQ next card Tongue

Just heard the news about Whitaker, and Costa being called off which I'm gutted about. I really want to see how Costa performs after his loss to Adensanya, especially since he was making excuses of being drunk? If I recall correctly. I've lost a little bit of respect for Costa, and I'm favouring Whitaker in that match up. Hopefully, it gets made again in the near future.

In regards to Adensanya, what do we think is next for him? After losing to Jan, is he going to fight someone else in that division, or return back down? Personally, I'd like to see Adensanya maybe drop back down, but in the future better prepare for moving up a division. It wasn't like he was out of his league, but he should have learned a lot from it, and hoping that serves him well in the future.

I'll get this week's predictions out probably around Friday.

@Welsh. What was his excuse? Did he also drink too much wine for this fight hehehe?

The hype is over for Adesanya, I reckon. The challenge was a notable decision, however, it was a bad career decision to challenge Jan.

@notblox1. Follow coronavirus cases after the fight hehehe.

It looks like some curse of UFC main events started after last week Sterling performance, but this time we had serious eye injury for Belal and I think it's time for new gloves to reduce chances for something like this repeating.
Eryk Anders vs Darren Stewart was also no contest this time, but we had a nice performance from Ryan Superman Spann and Dan Ige with their KOs.
What kind of new gloves you are proposing, they cannot have a glove that will restrict their movements as grappling and ground game is involved and if they already had some innovated gloves then they should introduce them as the eyes of Belal Muhammad looked nasty as if someone shot him in the eye.

Next week we have Kevin Holland and Derek Brunson in the main event, do you think it will have he same fate of a no contest . My bet is on Kevin Holland but lets see whether it will be a no contest or disqualification Grin.

New gloves proposed for uncle Dana hehehehe.

The hype over Israel remains until he's badly beaten in his own weight division. He also gave Jan a hard time and even the champ acknowledges that.

I don't know if it's bad to move up or not because he's been planning that for a long time to settle the score with Jon. I think it was a rushed move and it was probably triggered by Jon's move to HW.

Not bad Cheesy this could work, but you are forgetting the 12-6 elbows problem, maybe to put some padding there as well Cheesy In all seriousness the PRIDE FC gloves are a superior model in regards to eye pokes because you can't stretch your fingers like you can in UFC gloves (and yes, they are perfectly fine for grappling)

He wasn't out of his league per se, but he relies on a specific tactic/style that works well in a lower weight class with shorter opponents (and their shorter reach). His move to a higher division would have to include a change in his style and that is a big factor to consider, so at this point, staying in LHW would not make much sense. I'm assuming Bobby Knuckles is next in line for him, but unless Ol' Bobby changed his tactics, he will have the same fate as in the first match (and this is coming from a HUGE Whitaker fan)

New gloves proposed for uncle Dana hehehehe.

yep Kevin Holland could win and he looks sharper. i would be expecting a flying knee to knock Brunson.

Adesanya could fight anyone to rank up in the light heavyweight division, there will be a lot of fighters who will be honored to fight him. by then he could have gotten used to the weight class and then a rematch to Błachowicz can be arranged after. one loss isn't going to break him but he will watch his own fight to learn from it.

And here is the official poster

I am having a hard time believing that Masvidal will do any better than the first fight. This makes no sense to me. I know they are trying to push Masvidal as a star but this is just out of his league.

I also wonder where Rose's head is at the moment. Weili seems to be a much tougher cookie and is tough as nails.

As for the fans...pfuu, it's kinda hard to watch that with what's going on. Still early in my opinion.

Dana White also announced, that this fight is going to be in front of a 15,000-capacity crowd in April.

I dont know the current situation in the US, but is it allowed to gather in such a big crowd right now? What about 2-meter rule?
About the fight - previously, Masvidal was on a short notice (if I'm not mistaken 10 days only) and managed to break Usmans nose. In social media, Masvidal likes to display that, saying if he had a full camp, he would have bitten Usman. Now he has a chance to prove that Cheesy

In an article by Brett Okamoto of ESPN from January he (Usman) stated that he had actually shattered his nos in the training camp prior to the first Masvidal fight. We can take his word for it and we might not, but we can also take Masvidals word for believing he would be more ready if he had a longer camp. If the fight was more closer then we could entertain that idea, but Usman completely dismantled Masvidal and I can't really stand behind that idea.
