UFC on ESPN: Rodriguez vs. Waterson

Date: May 9, 2021
Main Card: SUN, MAY 9 / 3:00 AM EEST
Prelims: SUN, MAY 9 / 12:00 AM EEST

Venue:  Enterprise, Nevada, United States

Main card (ESPN)
Women's Flyweight: Marina Rodriguez vs. Michelle Waterson

Wow! a women's division main event, I rarely seen something like this but this should be a fight between Dillashaw VS Sandhagen but due to TJ Dillashaw's injury the fight is postponed so a short notice between Marina Rodriguez VS Michelle Waterson has taken place,

For me I really like Michelle Waterson winning this but her recent fight was back on Sept. 12, 2020 so it seems like a long vacation for her and her opponent had a recent match back on January 24 this year, but again Waterson really needs to be in top shape in giving Rodriguez a beating.

penalty for chickening 😁   and the penalty fee goes to the one who respond as replacement.  so you can expect kevin holland in every weekend.

although i dont think nate diaz will really back away a fight. weve see how tough he is so this must be a serious injury.
They are preparing for a fight and injuries are a part of this competition and so is the reason it is called the hurt business and you cannot go around fighters for getting injured during practice sessions. Nate Diaz is also not getting younger and if he is injured he knows that the recovery takes time and when you are young you could get cured easily but that is not the situation when you cross a certain age.

Kevin Holland needs to fix his ground skills before competing again and he really needs some rest.

There was a situation a couple of years ago where we had a severe epidemic of the injury bug Smiley It was the second half of the year and fighters were getting injured left and right, you could almost bet that someone on the main card would bail due to an injury. Actually, now that I checked it seems that the most injuries were around 2013 and 2014. Considering everything, we actually have a slighter injury rate now.

Easier said than done though. It usually takes years to get competent at any form of Jiu Jitsu simply because of muscle memory. You can actually learn the moves very quickly, but it all changes when your put in a competitive environment, and that's without taking into consideration that you have to defend from punches, and could be buzzed by a punch too.
Kevin Holland will not be an expert in wrestling but he can learn the basic defense techniques and positions and BJJ is the easiest to learn and then if he take some time to drill he can get out of certain positions. The fighters he fought were not elite level wrestlers but they were able to get him down so he needs to seriously fix certain areas.

He does need to fix it, as its going to be exploited a lot of often now that its been highlighted twice. Although, maybe Holland cherrypicks his opponents from now on. I can't see it, at least one positive with Holland is he seems like he'll fight anyone they put in front of him.
He is trying to be the present day Donald Cerrone and he will be a gate keeper rather than a champion and if he plans on doing that then it is fine and in the UFC it is hard to cherry pick fights unless you have a huge fan following.

After the construction of UFC Performance Institute things are improving as they are taking care of injured fighters and they get these treatment for free and it made a huge difference unless it is some serious injury that needs surgery.

It’s 5 rounds and Marina Rodriguez hits hard for her division.  Do you guys think she could finish Waterson or the fight gets stopped due to a cut somehow?  Waterson’s face got beaten vs Hill and Hill doesn’t hit as hard as Rodriguez...  Not mentioning the sharp elbows.

Edit:  Under 4.5 rounds is 2.75.

I just got my double winning again in Stake website after betting on co-main event Giga Chikadze vs Cub Swanson, and they have same promotion for next two fights happening this weekend Marina Rodriguez vs Michelle Waterson and Donald Cerrone vs Alex Morono.
You can only bet on singles, pre-match, max double win is $100 and you can read full terms on their promo page:
https://promotions.stake.com/ufc-main-event-2x-winnings

Jiri Prochazka could fight against Aleksandar Rakic in light heavyweight category if he wants to fight one more time in year 2021 or he will need to wait 2022, becauser Jan Blachowicz fight is in September with Glover Teixeira.
Here is MMAJunkie interview with Rakic calling out Prochazka to fight in same September event UFC 266:

He has already learned, and demonstrated the most basic defensive techniques. Hence why hes not getting submitted right, left, and center. That's the issue though, he clearly only knows how to prevent getting subbed, rather than recovering from the position. So, he usually just accepts bottom, because he doesn't actually know how to work his way up, and get back to the feet. Plus, when your going against the best of the best, they are usually quite good at managing someone who's less experienced. So, unfortunately for a long time he's always going to be on the back foot.

Having said that, he does need to concentrate on it a lot more, that is evident. He's been exposed, and unless he goes up against strikers only, he's going to mount up a lot of losses.

I could say Marina Rodriguez is likely the favorite to win, she took notice when she took out the highly rated Amanda Ribas she is technically a powerful striker I surely doubt that her grappling weakness can be exposed, I really think that Michelle Waterson will have a hard time with Rodriguez, I really love Waterson but Rodriguez is an exemption that she may unable to defeat, so for the best bet Rodriguez win this, but if you want a risky one Waterson for a decision win.

Here's my predictions:

Marina Rodriguez by TKO
Alex Morono by decision
Neil Magny
Rogerio de Lima
Gillespie
Ribas by decision
Daukaus by decision

It was a coin flip between Daukaus, and Hawes as I know how incredibly dangerous Phil can be. Otherwise, I think David Cerrone might be past it, and will struggle against Morono. I think the others are mainly favorites.

Edit:  Under 4.5 rounds is 2.75.
Incredibly good value considering her opponent. I think it might be worth a shot considering how dangerous she is in the stand up. I'll be putting that on my accumulator at least.

This should be a good night for Gillespie. His wrestling should be able to minimize, and maybe nullyfie Ferreiras JJ so we might be looking at a standup fight. I wonder if Gillespie could assert his dominance vie wrestling without getting submitted, but is that a chance he wants to take?

I think Gillespie will find it a tough fight, but I have faith that he'll overcome whatever is in front of him. I do think its going to be a predominately stand up fight, despite Ferreiras decorated jiu jitsu. It could go either of two ways, we have a stand up fight which one of these guys could be getting knocked out or it'll be a safer approach for both of them, and the wrestling will take a points decision. I do think if its a stand up fight like I'm anticipating Gillespie will have the better hands, and ultimately win via decision or knock out.

Whats our thoughts on Daukaus taking the win? Currently have him on an accumulator with 3 matches already won, with Daukaus, Ribas, and another couple of football matches to net around 13k.

@YuginKadoya. Agreed! The karate hottie Michelle Waterson has more experience in fights with 5 rounds. I predict Marina Rodriguez to be tired beginning round 4.

It also appears everyone is forgetting that this is an Amanda Ribas fight week. Where is @mich hehe.

ohhmmmm i wouldn't do horrible horrible things to her even if i'd love to. but i would like them to sign for mudfight. if they really want money Dana should arrange such fights.

Marina Rodriguez has quite a good winning record than Waterson though so if it will really go beyond 3rd round then probably a little unsure result for Rodriguez.

I wonder how much of Wattersons' experience will come into play here. It's hard to do the math here, but both have lost and had not so great outings in their last 5 fights, so it's anybody's guess.

Yup! maybe a plan is underway and because I can't really decide on who's really going to win let's just say that maybe this can become another Rose Namajunas VS Weili Zhang where the odds is in favor with Zhang but Namajunas surprise everyone with that TKO on a favorable Zhang,

I really don't know who she is in the pictures.

This is a guessing game to be precise but If you want a bet that has a huge percentage then go with Marina Rodriguez but if you like risking it and would love to really gamble for big profit go for Michelle Waterson or if you really just love Waterson very much then go all out for Michelle Waterson on any crypto gambling site for me that will be Stake.com

And I would also love to you know, but I may end up getting a submission lock but I would surely die happily  Grin

^  I’d suggest taking a gamble on the under 4.5 rounds.  These girls took the fight on days short notice, the match is gonna be in 125 lbs not their real weight class at 115 lbs.  So prolly they just have a good two or three rounds in them...

And another nice gamble could be Waterson via sub at 11 at Stake.  Rodriguez’s cardio will prolly be suspect which will open her to submissions.

Edit:

Yup! I agree and we should really make a gamble once in a while, just as the old saying goes, there is no pain no gain, we should risk for a little while so we can surely take a large amount of profit, Waterson might not be a great striker in her division I guess having a mentality of never giving up is a great assurance adding up to the percentage on why to bet on her, just like I said she is not a sure 100% going to win in the 1st couple of rounds but once Rodriguez is worn out that will be a time for an opening for her with her submission takedown.

So there were two bouts canceled due to medical issues caused by weight cutting.  Benoit obv couldn’t stand straight on the scale and Lins never showed up.  Expect the prelims to start 30 mins or so later.

Final picks, under 4.5 for the main event and Angela Hill to win.

Diego Sanchez is crazy enough to find a idiot like Joshua Fabia who took the mantle of the worst MMA coach from Edmond Tarverdyan and i have no idea how an experienced fighter like Diego Sanchez would be fooled by a wannabe and even go to the distance of spoiling his career and i bet he might be spending all his savings for this stupid.
