And I think another aspect of MS Dhoni which people have almost forgotten is his ability to finish the match. He was a good player but a very big responsibility to him from the club was to finish on a high and he had done that consistently for a long period of time. And he was a good captain because he always thought about the risk versus reward of every decision.

You can be a good player, it doesn't matter how well you play, is not included in the national team if there is even the slightest doubt you have relationship with the opposing political parity. Bloody hell!! KL Rahul is VC again, which means he'll play the first 2 tests for sure and he'll open with Rohit.

I did mentioned it on the ODI thread that this guys has secured his berth after his performance in the second ODI against Sri Lanka. In the third ODI he again lost his wicket after scoring just 7 or 6 runs. This is how you keep your berth safe in the playing 11, when in the past you have proven yourself.

Everyone knows it Mumbai based players and Mumbai based celebrity players are the one who would eventually become as a captain for teams in different format and would also get multiple opportunities to prove themselves. It is evident from Gavaskar era. It is now clear that Rahul will eventually become the captain himself when Rohit is gone. The format would be only ODI and might be Test.

I do not understand why India is doing this. I feel like they have better players who are more deserving of captaincy compared to KL Rahul. I agree that he can play well. And he is oftentimes a performer which India needs in certain situations. But I do not believe that he is going to be the best option to choose when it comes to the captaincy for India. Personally, I believe India has better options for the captaincy spot. I do not want to mention any names because I believe you guys can figure it out.

KL Rahul has a strong sifarish behind him. Either he knows how to keep the selection committee happy or he knows how to keep ball rolling.

I am not saying that they will have to find someone like MS Dhoni. I am saying that there are better and more deserving players who can be the captain of India instead of KL Rahul. KL Rahul is an amazing batsman(Especially in the IPL), but he is not a great captain. Very few players turn out to be great leaders like Dhoni, Pointing, Graeme Smith etc in cricket based on what I observed.

He was sustained in the team for almost 3 years despite not performing, just because he is a part of the woke brigade led by Virat Kohli. And when he received captaincy, Hardik followed the same nepotistic policies that were followed by Kohli. As a result of this, there is no place in the Indian team for talented players such as T Natarajan, who are not part of this group. And I don't even want to discuss the way Hardik forced the Indian team management to do the Black Lives Matter drama at the world cup.

Lee and McGrath were able to perform decently in sub-continent conditions (most of the times). I don't know how the current Aussie pacers will adjust to the Indian conditions. In all probability they will be eaten alive by Indian batsmen such as Kohli and Rohit. Obviously their main drawback is with spin bowling. Once they had Shane Warne and Stuart MacGill. Now they have Nathan Lyon and Mitchell Swepson.

Hardik Pandya is definitely a good quality player but when he took charge ‍as the captain of the team the other players in the team also performed well but nothing good came out of his bat. But he did consistently well before becoming captain. I think BCCI planned to give advantage to KL Rahul thinking in that direction. As Hardik Pandya has always done well for the team, the decision may have been taken keeping in mind that his game should not be hampered for any reason. But these discussions should be done on T20 thread. As it is fix for the test matches.

@Sithara007 I totally agree that today’s generation of Australian bowler’s can’t be compared to Lee and McGrath, however I don’t agree with the part where you say that they’ll be dominated by Indian batsman easily. Also I understand that Indian pitches favour spinners more, but I have a feeling that Australian pace bowler’s won’t struggle that much due the experience they have gained of bowling on Indian pitches while playing in IPL.
