I think Alaska realized it too late and they're trying to offer him 2 years contract then. But that wouldn't change his mind I guess.
Why 2 years of contract? Why make it 3?
I don't know what the max year contract for a PBA player but I see some players getting signed for 3 yeas, probably that's the max, so why can't the Alaska give that to Manuel?
I don't know what's with them. They seem to be reliable with a 2-year contract to Manuel and don't think he should get on board for a longer contract.
About the longest or max contract in history, I think that's Duremdes and with our current time. I haven't seen someone max more than 3 years too.

I think the max year is only 3 years, I dig a little and see this news, it's Fajardo signed a 3 year deal with the SMB, but this news was in 2015 and I think Fajardo is still already the best player in the PBA that time.

Yeah, that's also what I think about the max contract should be in 3 years. I've mentioned Kenneth Duremdes having the most contract because I've read an article that said that he got a max contract of 8 years but that was a very long time ago. I thought with the recent years, it was Arwind Santos that has the highest paid in a contract.

Nice information guys, I never expect that it's happened in the PBA before, that was a huge amount compared to the contract the players are getting this season or in the past few season. I'm still not a big fan of PBA that time but I know some popular players like Kenneth Duremdes of course, that guy deserved a huge contract.

Hmmm... I was surprised by the Breaking News. No one sees this coming.

Terrafirma sends CJ Perez to San Miguel in blockbuster deal

What's the blockbuster deal here? What Terrafirma is thinking? They claimed it's hard to CJ Perez as he was the ace of the team but looked at those players they get in return. Hard to think that there's an under the table discussion here. SMB now added again another great talent.

Lower-tier teams now become more of a farming team but that would change if Terrafirma will able to pick some of the best draftees in the upcoming draft. Lots of rumored good prospects there.

The trade however is still subject to PBA approval but likely close to be approved as Terrafirma themselves claims it's a fair trade.

There is a rumor about this supposed trade circulating on social media and now it is starting to take it's shape.

One of the reason why Terrafirma would let go of CJ Perez is that there is no more harmony in the team with Perez around (don't know if this is true).

Team mates of his are frustrated of him always taking the winning shot but never got a win lol.

If the above reason is true then i could say that the deal is fair enough, better send away players who have attitude problem.

How good the SMB will become, CJ Perez will fit this team because although he is a good scorer, he is always a good passer, better than Romeo IMO. The only question now is if how they will build a chemistry under him as CJ will certainly be playing as a starter and he will take care of the offense more.

SMB getting better, and more if Fajardo will come back fully healthy.

Rumors are already circulating online since last year or 2 years ago so SMB is eyeing in Perez from the start.

What surprised me is the players that the SMB will give to them. Alolino, Escoto who already in Dyip for quite some time and he will be back again in his former team, MGR who is a good defender and a draft pick this year. Not imbalance for me. The Dyip also want Pessumal to be traded to them but SMB management doesn't want it.

I'm a fan of SMB for years already but this is just a proof that the competitiveness of the league is slowly fading. Star players are just focused on a few teams and the other teams, it will be like a fertilizer to these big companies. They will just get players there and will trade some bench players. I just hope that Commissioner Marcial will not approve this trade or at least tweak and make the trade balance at least.

SMB really always gets what they wanted lol.

Most of their frontcourt runners are aging so instead of waiting for those players to retire or slow down, they think of a plan to cover those.

I hope DYIP draftees will be a rising star soon. Like them to beat SMB with Perez on-board.

Not only SMB, the big teams in the PBA that is own by the SMB group and the Pangilinan group.
Look what happen to Blackwater, they were doing great with Ray Parks then suddenly Ray Parks was traded to TNT.

I hope so, but Perez was really a definition of a true star, he doesn't play like a rookie during his first year in the PBA.

Like them to beat SMB with Perez on-board.

1% probability, lol.. sorry...

Yup, that's it. Then that means that they can go more than the max amount in the contract but they'll just put it onto bonuses and allowances which will make a superstar get into that contract. Well, only the best and most influential can get that max contract just like Kenneth Duremdes.

SMB is the Favorite to win the All-Filipino and now become more Favorite because of the CJ Perez trade. Talents are now spread into those big companies only. The culture of PBA won't really be changed.

Players that seem to have potential will always be targeted by big companies.

And players and their agents also aiming to land playing with big campanies (SMB & Pangilinan) is no secret that those stars / rising stars
are always in the list of this 2 comanies.

They are offering perks that players can't resist, even in returned they'll just sit and not going to play the same minutes that they've gotfrom their previous teams.

Players are more now with long term stability than showing the full potentials of their careers, is more on money
matters than bringing the talents that they've  got. Well that's life and those players knows that their careers can
be ruined by major injuries so taking the money is far important than anything.

Very well said, it's the money is the main reason why they are playing for big teams, they got good offer while they are still young and healthy, they'll not hesitate to grab it, that's the reality that we can't deny, not only in PBA, even in bigger league like the NBA.

Parks is getting a chance to win a championship plus getting a good contract, I think that's really satisfying, unless he doesn't want to play anymore with the team, then he might look for another team, in his case, he can transfer to big teams that are not own by Pangilinan and that is only the SMB teams.

I have to disagree with this because it is not automatic for CJ Perez to jell well to the system of coach Austria. He may be a go to guy in his previous team but he has to adjust to SMB if ever this trade would push through.

We have seen many instances where a player having a talent level more on that of Perez landed on SMB but did not worked well with Fajardo. Cstand and Mo Tautoa are the great example of this scenario.

As i've said, the governor of Dyip has already said that this is a "fair trade" and they are willing to let go of their star player maybe because of a deep reason we don't know.

SMB really always gets what they wanted lol.

Most of their frontcourt runners are aging so instead of waiting for those players to retire or slow down, they think of a plan to cover those.

I hope DYIP draftees will be a rising star soon. Like them to beat SMB with Perez on-board.
Power of money Smiley. The league is already a competition between SMB teams and MVP teams.

I like the move of the SMB though and you are right that the star players of SMB are aging already (around 30+ years old) but what I don't like is the trade itself. What SMB will give isn't enough in terms of performance compare to what Perez can give to the team. If they will include one of their starters and add Pessumal on the trade talks then it will be a fair trade.

DYIP is already a good team if only they aren't giving their star players to other teams in exchange for some bench.

I'm an SMB fan but this is too early to say because any team that has a good star players will be useless if they don't have chemistry and they will not execute well. Add adjustments too since this will be a huge adjustment for him (possible).

Looks like people are not happy with the trade of CJ Perez to the SMB.

What they see is that SMB is trying to form a super super team, they are already the favorites to win the championship because they have JMF but they still keep filling the team with talented players. They will get CJ in exchanges of bench players, that's too much to see because Terrafirma will become a very weak team as we don't know if that first pick rookie would be as good as CJ Perez.

And in relation to this news, Yeng Guiao tells PBA in wake of Perez trade: 'Listen to the fans'

They were just surprised, for PBA fans I'm sure they are happy because this will make their team better and with CJ Perez on board, that makes their future more secured as veterans like Arwind and Cabagnot will soon retire. CJ Perez is a scoring champ, he certainly will fit with the SMB and good pair with Fajardo due to his good passing skills.

Agree, I'm surprise as well as we were talking about other player that was asking his current team to be traded, but then this big news just came in and we didn't see it coming.

SMB is the best team in the PBA (whether you agree with me or not) even if they failed last season.

Fajardo as long as he is healthy will continue to bring this team to the championship, they don't need to be like a super team to win as they are already a super team. It's not only a shame for the SMB but for the entire organization as they allow to make a specific to be this strong while leaving the struggling team to struggle more.

Fajardo is already prone to injury and he is not getting any younger, at 31 years old now, he can still dominate but SMB management is seeing the future of the SMB so they have acted early to acquire a player that could lead the team. If Fajardo will retire, SMB will never be the same again because it's hard to find a big man as talented as Fajardo which really their main advantage now.
