How bad it has become for the PBA, their stars that make the league interesting are playing abroad as an import, more players will follow for sure.

I don't know if Kiefer Ravena will have a smooth transition to his Japanese Team as he will face some complications on this matter. The commissioner have spoke up that what Kiefer did was wrong because he has recently signed a three year contract extension with NLEX. He should have consulted first his legal adviser before agreeing to sign with the Japanese team.

Nevertheless, it's a good sign that Japan have interest on Filipino cagers as this will motivate the young to work hard as the option to play in the professional league is not limited to PBA anymore.

I think this scenario will not do bad for the PBA as only few players are fit to play as an import and these Ravenas will be back to Philippine soil 2-3 years from now.

This might create a domino effect that has been started by Thirdy Ravena.
There is a possibility that the other PBA Players will think like "Kiefer can play to other countries to so I will try my luck too and will play on other countries. Higher salary and better competition".

Kiefer still has a contract with his mother team but the Shiga Lakestars can just buyout him and he can play already in Japan. How bad it is?? Like I said, it might force other PBA players to go abroad too and play into other countries and if that happen the competition in our league will decrease because of lack of good players. I expect for more players to follow with this trend and if the PBA management can't stop this then it will be a problem for them.

On the other hand, we might see some PBA players getting interested to play in other countries but still it will be the team's decision if they will get them or not. Its just lucky that the Ravena brothers are the first ones who played in Japan or I should say that they are good enough to enter the Japan Basketball League. Either way, this will benefit both of them as they will gain more experience and after few years they will come back to the PH.

I would say it's good news for us because our talent are recognized abroad, however, it will degrade the PBA as their players are living for better opportunity, but hopefully, this will not create a domino effect and the PBA owners will adjust their salary so players will stay.

It's like the scenario in our daily life, people choose to work abroad because they offer good compensation.

On the other hand, we might see some PBA players getting interested to play in other countries but still it will be the team's decision if they will get them or not.

They would get them if they have the talent, actually, we already hear some news before that some players are given an opportunity to play abroad.
IIRC< that was Romeo and Abueva getting offers, but maybe they had declined it as they choose the PBA.

It's correct, and we have an article for that.

Calvin Abueva confirms receiving Japan offer, but says not biting - yet

This offer came during his suspension in the PBA, but he is more interested to come back than go abroad to play, in the end, it still depends on the interest of the players but some players will certainly choose a good paycheck.

Wow  Shocked  it's more on the money side, Kiefer see the opportunities knowing that even he'll try his best here in our country the amount of salaries that will be
offer for him would not be the same with the amount of his brothers paycheck now,

I heard it before with Abueva, he mentioned  amount that really hard to resist, but since PBA allow him to play back I guess he choose to stay.

Kiefer being practical, playing as import with high salary he's still young and always have space inside PBA he can give it a try and see the difference. GL

Well, players have mouths to feed and bills to pay so pretty sure why they want to go to a greener pasture, it wouldn't happen if the pay here is good don't you think? Plus with players moving, more new players are introduced.

Looking at it in a different perspectives, if players from PBA continue are allow being pirated outside the country its gives new aspiring players to step up and showcase their skills, I follow your sentiments what this two brothers did are the faces of reality inside this league, the amount of compensations are far lower than those offers abroad.

If chance permits them, players who wanted to have a much decent future will grab this kind of opportunities, knowing that they are not going any younger and decent savings are better than anything.

Bang! I didn't saw this coming but within the day, I tuned in the news about Marcial giving a statement that Kiefer cannot leave NLEX because he's still attached with a contract. But on the other news, NLEX management has said that they've given Kiefer a blessing to go on. I don't understand that there's a binding contract towards PBA and not with NLEX. NLEX might have allowed Kiefer to go on but is he going to go through with the PBA management first and gets their blessing before he's finally released? These Ravena brothers might stay on the B League of Japan as they're going to be more recognized there and have a better basketball career.

Most probably as this league gives a better salary than the PBA, as rumor says, the salary of Thirdy Ravena is higher than the highest paid PBA player which is June Mar Fajardo, so Kiefer might just thinking of his better future.

That's a good choice for him. It's just a matter of choice and of course whichever can give them a better future. As we know in PBA, the league has some condition before giving their players to get paid with the highest contract that they can ever have. And for sure that opportunities abroad are paying well more than what the PBA can offer to them. It's a wise decision for both of these brothers, as long as there's an open opportunity for them, why they shouldn't decline it? they can always go back to the local league if the management will still allow them to play thus, they will go to another league which they'll be welcomed if PBA won't open their doors.

Yeah and I see no problem Keifer accepting that sincr imagine he can also get an exposure overseas for sure its a big boost to his career. But the problem is the PBA doesn't give a clearance yet and if they don't want to retain their players maybe its time for them to give a more competitive salary since if they give low cuts to their players for sure Keifer is not the last player will be recruited to Japan or in other country.

It confuses us, it looks like Kiefer knows something because he already signs a contract while he is still under the contract of NLEX. If NLEX will make it hard for Kiefer, I don't know what will happen but sure Kiefer is willing to play abroad and will pay whatever penalty he will play just to clear his name.

I tell you, other players that have a star status might also be thinking of grabbing the same opportunity if there's an offer.

Kiefer still has a contract with his mother team but the Shiga Lakestars can just buyout him

Let's quote it, "if allowed".

I disagree with these draft-dodging rules but in the case of Kiefer Ravena, he is under contract. Those things are sensitive and Kiefer should know the consequences. I don't see any problem if he talks about it first. Contracts are signed on a legal basis so it's not a thing that anyone can just ignore just to sign other contracts especially overseas.

I definitely want to see some Pinoy cagers doing some name in basketball overseas but the case of Kiefer Ravena is different. I hope he can settle things regarding his contract as showcasing their talents overseas is a good exposure of our local players to the world.

Good point, Kiefer needs to work it out with the team owner before he can go ahead to this matter,
his under contract and that's sensitive if he'll go for this without any approval that's a legal case out there,

But for sure he understand this and before he'll do or take any actions about this concern he will discuss it with his camp and see all the legal process.

I think that before accepting the offer abroad, he knows the circle of his contract including the ins and outs of the PBA league/management. There's already a go signal from his team NLEX and I think they're going to be the ones to void the contract without any problem nor penalty will be imposed to Kiefer. They're supported as ever to their players that are taking opportunities elsewhere but it's that the management of PBA is the one that he has to face next. If his team will help him out and have that talks to PBA, he's for sure going to be spared.

Speaking of Ravena brothers, we have some breaking news here!

https://tv5.espn.com/basketball/pba/story/_/id/31549892/kiefer-set-follow-thirdy-bleague-signs-shiga-lakestars

Quote
NLEX guard Kiefer Ravena set to sign with Japan B.League's Shiga Lakestars
Quote
Kiefer Ravena is close to joining brother Thirdy in Japan as the B.League's latest Asian Player Quota import for the Shiga Lakestars in the 2021-22 season, the team announced Wednesday.
How bad it has become for the PBA, their stars that make the league interesting are playing abroad as an import, more players will follow for sure.

GL

That's how the players should react in a situation because them being an athlete is not permanent, if they want to have a better future, they should grab a good contract so they can retire early if they want, it's true he is just being practical and I'm sure the PBA teams can offer a higher contract and this is a call for them to review the contract to prevent the players from going outside the Philippines just to play, it's an insult to them.

Unfortunately he doesn't have clearance yet as commissioner said he have a contract tied with Nlex so for that Kiefer will have a problem regarding on his arrival on japan. Lets just see if they can settle this discussion once they talk indoor with Ravena and PBA officials.

I do hope to see Ravena playing on Japan and he will face his younger brother on 1 game.

May I know the source of it that NLEX allows voiding the contract?

And as to my knowledge, it's not just about Kiefer/NLEX contract. There is also a part of the contract where involves PBA-NLEX-Kiefer. Commissioner Marcial will not just state an official statement about that issue if there's no violation on Kiefer's part.
