We'll probably be working on an adapter board to socket in where the PSU goes and allow easy cabling to external supplies like paired Z750 or a DPS-2000. Might help quiet things down a bit, and allow more power overhead for upping the clock.

Cool, quiet and up to 1TH pod miner, on sale now!

Even in the event that an attacker gains more than 50% of the network's computational power, only transactions sent by the attacker could be reversed or double-spent. The network would not be destroyed.

the inevitable which should be viewed as a feather in the cap for spondoolies has arrived.

hack spondoolies

while it might upset the original designer/owners it in reality is a crowning glory and should be embraced.

My unit just arrived today, it was hosted in their facilities and i ordered to send it to me. It was my worst mistake in the minning history, this thing is LOUD, extremely LOUD, i put it in normal mode to calm it down but even so the noise is unbearable if i don´t find a way to calm it down i will have to sell my unit, for now it´s turned off, i can only turn it by day. The unit is in a basement but anyone upstairs can hear it, it screams like hell, i have several GPU´s working and other hardware but none can beat SP10 in terms of noise, beside the noise is loud its a strange noise like a wissle

I found a supplier that has the 52db fans, i will make a go for it and order one, or maybe someone can point me a cheap cabinet for it ?? I´m desperate here

Tip for warm rooms: It seems that the SP10 runs better and more stable at Normal speed than at Turbo. Try it!

Can you be more specific reference "runs better", meaning your getting a higher hash rate?

Thank you,

~Blaise

Getting 1.45Th/s at Normal speed. With turbo I was reaching 1.50Th/s or 1.52Th/s, but from time to time it slows down at 1.40Th/s. I guess it's from the heat. I really need that 5U rack.

I think your numbers are better too because of being in the PRE-May batch.
Mine would only run at 1.05 in quiet mode when it was suppose to run at at least 1.2 but would
never come close.
I had it tuned and its running steady at 1.42 each at tuned TURBO settings by SP-TECH staff.
I think at normal Id be lucky to get 1.15 or 1.2 quite honestly with this May batch.

So you're running at 1.42TH/s on turbo.  Are you in the US and connected to a standard wall outlet (120V/15A)?  It would be pretty disappointing to top out at 1TH/s - and would greatly sway my decision on having it shipped or hosted.

EDIT: I thought that quiet mode was supposed to run at 1 TH/s @ 700 watts.

Hi all.
Latest FW does not really have "quiet mode/turbo mode", because the batches have different voltage points - so 1.3TH/1100W voltage on April batch is 1.0TH/700W in May. Now you can choose your mode exactly by changing the voltage limits. I will release a blog post in technical blog today on how to do it.

Everybody in this thread warned people that the units were loud.

More hashing --> more loudness

Just get them hashing at a DC, you will also get cooling there aswell as proper security.

Plus: When you are at the DC to setup your equipment, you will feel like the coolest kid on the block as you can distinctly hear your miner over all the boring server equipment  Grin

To put it bluntly these fans are probably the cheapest available to do the job.
"Loud" does not mean "cheap", I think that's a common misconception Wink

i've got no problem with the volume of the rig, it's the most stable and best quality hashing machine i've ever owned. i'd gladly have ten of them running in my spare room if i could afford them!

Physics dictates the sound of these units.

It is just not possible to get "silent" 40mm fans that also push a great amount of air.

more hash ---> more noise

These units are still the best engineered bitcoin miners out there.

Hey guys i´m not saying that it´s a bad Rig, it surely is a master piece of hardware the main problem here i never expected to be so loud

Yes i have read many persons here in forum telling it was loud, but anyway i thought it was bearable, seems it´s not, my fault

So all i´m asking is if anyone finds a solution to calm it down please advice me

IS THAT OK FOR YOU GUYS ?? SORRY I TURNED IT IN TURBO MODE AND MY BRAIN IS GOING TO FLY

Yes no one is bashing the product it is indeed the highest and best engineered product to date.

The objective here is to find a solution for the home user, which part of the fun and games of having such equipment's.

1. The difference between 30,000 fans @ 10$ vs.11.50$ is what? A savings of what.
2. The difference between 52.5 dB and 50 dB is what?

There are blade design differences bearing differences motor differences etc. There are 40mm fans ranging from 10 dB to 100 dB. Again if someone wants to bother and look at what fan and what specs. they currently are, they can then source their own "better" or "quieter" equivalent.

Someone from Spondoolies should be doing this saying that you can get away with x CFM at y voltage for the PSU and likewise for the machine itself. Quite frankly as you all sit here twiddling your thumbs, there are people in this very thread saying that they would like to buy it but won't because of the noise.

Anyway up to you.

With a "better" fan you might be able to shave off 15% noise, but the fact still remains that it will still be loud and not suitable for everyone at home.

It is designed for DC deployment. You can deploy it at home if you take certain measures, but not everyone might have a free-standing shed etc. to put them in.

If better longterm hosting deals should become available, that would be great and probably increase sales of these even more.

I am sure, some DCs in WA would be able to host these at a competitive price if you get a few racks.

A fan spinning at 6000~9000 rpm can never be quiet, no matter the bearing or blade design. It's impossible. At this level, you don't hear any noise from the ball bearing, you just hear the airflow. At this fan speeds, you will NEVER achieve laminar flow.

The bearing does matter if you look for fans spinning at 300~500 rpm. Then you even prefer a sleeve bearing over ball bearing, because sleeve bearing is more quiet. Again, at this level you only hear the mechanics of the fan, not the actual airflow. But for fans with many thousand rpm, ball bearing is the only option and turbulent airflow will always be noisy.

If you want a quiet SP10, go for watercooling.

If you want a quiet SP10, go for watercooling.

Please build an immersion cooling solution so we can deploy in 1.3MW containers. We just need to raise ~3m in funds for this.

Is anyone in?
/irony on

By the power of my own arrogance i hereby name myself CEO, CFO and every other CXX position out there of "datatank investment inc." and will collect payments on the behalf of the company.

The subsidiary company "1.21 Gigawatts Power inc" will then invest funds in a fusion power reactor, powering our container(s) with incredibly cheap electricity.

Once our hosting site, strategically placed near the fusion power plant, runs out of area to deploy the datatank containers in, we will be able to stack them like a jenga tower.

When the stack height of our containers reaches outer space, we will have additional income from carrying satelites into orbit via Alpacas.

Company owned Alpacas will also provide everyone with Alpaca-wool socks.
