Hello Community,
I want to update everyone on the progress of things and I'm honest as always just like each team member of Diamond Coin.
I don't want it to be another apologetic message but a frank assessment.
As everyone knows the Block Chain went down last Wednesday (for us it was). As we were working on a new client client for quite some time we thought it would make more sense to release it then and there rather to use hardfork fix on the old wallet and do another hardfork soon after to switch it to Groestl algorithm.
The whole sudden situation caught us with our pants down, but we were convinced everything would work, because it worked in the lab, unfortunately as it turned out soon after it failed in the field.
Some people here accused us of not doing enough testing and, yes we didn't do enough because of the crazy short time frame we had to stick to to deliver a working client for Cryptsy. It was ready by Friday, unfortunately the problem with the database forced us to concentrate on making a patch. After that it turned out that mining pools on stratum do not accept blocks. We had a bit of lax day on Sunday just to have a bit of breathing space as most of us have slept for 4-2h per night over the previous several days. On Monday after talking directly with the pool owners we switched our focus to the code and started analysing its behaviour. We have identified possible sources of problems and now we are rebuilding the code to make it work as it was intended to work form the start. We have our own stratum server and can test any changes confirming it plays nicely so we could be 100% sure we wouldn't see any unpleasant surprises next time.
We have made some changes in the dev team setup which is more optimal and allows for better quality testing. We all agreed that this release in no way meets our quality expectations and to overcome this we decided that we won't limit ourselves with fixed deadlines - we will deliver product that is 100% working with stratum and everything else.
The network is stable now, solo mining is working correctly, coins are transferable, I suspect there would be no problem with setting up working non-stratum 'getwork' mining pool (for the time being), Cryptsy is notified and should be working on implementing the new wallet this week.
I sincerely believe that you as community should not be worried at all, but trust us to put it right. We are working really hard and we won't stop until it's properly done.
Regards, Alex
This is very nice but when will we have a working pool? Every single pool is having the same problem with rejected blocks and im about to give up on this coin. Please make an effort to get 1 single working pool up.

answer: scrypt pools closed forever. i'm making a groestl pool server (closed source which i have no obligation to share as its completely custom) it should be done soon ahmed will create a proprietary pool solution which is able to mine with actual diamond code meanwhile we work on adjustmends in code for standard pools too

Meanwhile, some of us continue to hack the code to make it work as advertised. By the way, the DMD code base is indeed archaic, it cointains/misses code fragments that have been fixed in mainstream bitcoin code for years. Just for the record: I am not accusing anyone of anything. (here goes the old theory that you need at least 10 years to learn programming) EDIT: A good reading for anyone who believes they are good programmer. Worth reading anyway, even if you are not programmer. At least to understand better the validity of experience/expertise claims. A must read for managers, if you ask me http://norvig.com/21-days.html

Maybe because Obama said everybody should hack? :-D Ask anybody if you can learn playing an instrument or building a house in seven days. I've been programming for almost 30 years and still learning! Now that I've realized (duh) that the rise in difficulty is directly correlated to the rise in network hashrate . . .Current “last 24 hours” Diamond Difficulty Stats Source: sph-sgminer (5/6/2014 11:00:00 - 5/7/2014 11:00:00 GMT] Peak High 66 Average 40.78 Mean 40 Trough Low 25 Using an average extrapolated Hashrate to Difficulty ratio of 67.5 : 1 we can generate these estimated hashrate stats:- peak high network hashrate would be ~4.46 GH/s - average network hashrate would be ~2.75 GH/s - mean network hashrate would be ~2.70 GH/s - low network hashrate would be ~ 1.69 GH/s Converted into previous scrypt equivalents, the current equivalent hashrate numbers would be something along the following:399 - 446 MH/s 246 - 275 MH/s 241 - 270 MH/s 151 - 169 MH/s This is still quite phenomenal, especially considering that there are no pools and things are limited to solo mining! A success story in the works.
