Well said. BTC will be replaced as the leader sooner than I had expected a week ago. I am more confident than ever. If not VeriCoin, someone else who is willing to walk in these exact same shoes. Been a long time coming.

Such classic posts as these must be quote/saved, let's revisit this in a few months and see how much BTC has died.

I say replaced as the number 1, Bitcoin will always be around, I think it will be #1 for a long time. Kind of like AOL.

When the internet first came around my first big investment was AOL. Learned a lot following that investment, and it relates well to today. AOL is still around, but it failed to follow trends and innovate quick enough, leaving it behind. It eventually re-invented itself. The biggest company in the world re-invented itself.

In time, a crypto currency will break the mold and become more senseable for everyday people to use. This might be that time.

Sorry windows

If you haven't you need to backup your wallet.dat file in a few locations that are safe.

Once you have wallet.dat safely secured off your PC, you delete all your other vericoin files and re-install.

If you are on the correct fork it will be 1.3.3

There is a step by step guide I am trying to find, it was posted some pages back by the dev's.

Ah, your stuck on bootstrap, okay I should have clarified this before, I got ahead of myself.

You just need to wait up to about 1 hour for the bootstrap file sometimes to finish.

You can also uncheck the bootstrap when you are initially downloading for windows I believe, and it will load up faster, that's what I have done in the past.

Let me know if this works for you. No rush, I know it may take a hour.

If you need help with anything else, It looks like you may be new to forum, don't hesitate to send me a PM if you can use assistance with anything.

Whats neat is, you already have a fiat conversion in wallet that people don't realize.

If you have a coinbase account or any other BTC-FIAT trading accounts.

VRC storage to BTC coinbase account -> withdraw = never having to use an exchange again. Its limited to 1 btc at a time for now, but it still has uses for a lot of people.

This should not need clarification, but the BC posters here -and a couple others- keep on spinning. And blatantly lying. So here we go:

A per Patrick and Douglas, there will not be any more roll backs.

This is clear and rotund enough, isn't it? But what happens when "this" (the theft), happens again... and it WILL happen again? the same "concerned" individuals shout again and again...

The clear, repeated answer, is that we all hope it will NOT happen again and since, until now, no one has ever stolen 30% of one coin, and since measures have been taken by the VRC community (staking) and -hopefully- the exchanges themselves, a repeated situation is highly unlikely if not impossible to happen. Furthermore, as VRC grows and new investors come in, such a situation, again, is virtually impossible. As we stand today it IS actually impossible. That answers ALL the possible questions... if they are legitimate, that is -which we know, they aren't-.

All that said and was said repeatedly -not as repeatedly as "At the end of the day", mind you, nothing came close to that one-, IF a situation such as this, in which 30% of the coins were stolen again and it was as easy and simple to reverse the situation as it was in this instance, I sincerely hope -and I am convinced too- the exact same measures will be taken. Not just by VRC but also by any other crypto coin... (this is important:) by any other crypto coin that has non-anonymous developers, those who, by doing ANYTHING ELSE, would not only lose everything they have in the attacked coin but also would permanently bar themselves from crypto. Such actions would sen a very clear signal to the crooks out there. They will be getting the picture. It's long time due to eliminate the bad players. Just like it was long time due, when this team came out, to eliminate the anonymous developers from crypto. The bar was raised then. The bar has been raised again. And it comes with RESPONSIBILITY and at least a semblance of ACCOUNTABILITY. Until REGULATION comes, it is up to the crypto community to eliminate the bad players, condemn them to ostracism and march forward towards a much more secure, clean and easy to be accepted in the mainstream crypto world.

As for the BC jokers, sorry but I have been saying for a while that you lived by the sword (The Black Hand) and you would die by the sword: There's no more blood to be sucked from you by the Black Hand, so they have moved, here and to DRK, where there is "blood" aplenty. You are left with a gorgeous logo and a bunch of fan boys now beginning to realize that the gig is almost over. It is the chronicle of an inevitable death long foretold. It was a very easy to see scam. And scams, and theft, should not prosper anymore in crypto.

The bar has been, again, raised.

Are you able to get in the IRC, If nobody gets back to you here, thats a good place to start.

I am not sure if anyone is on, but that is where most people have been getting real time help. I am not familiar with that system.

Mostly rubbish .... cheap ass jibes and BS

Yawn.

2/10 Because there was a couple of interesting bits about staking, as for the the rest, go to the back of the class.

Bar raising, yes, we started that for you so you knew what to do next. Move on.

a repeated situation is highly unlikely if not impossible to happen

unlikely

yes, everyone hopes for that and that should be a main goal when it comes to security

impossible?

just. don't. say. stuff. like. that. really. nothing is impossible no matter how hard you try to protect something. there are much bigger threats coming from the inside (like this whole story is just fishy) than from the outside, like hacking attacks. so reading words like impossible makes me cringe everytime

whoever sells below 29k now must be a complete retard....

Hi,

After the Mintpal fiasco, I upgraded my wallet ("about" says wallet's version is 1.3.3.0 and QT's is 5.0.2.) but since then I can't connect to the VRC network  Undecided

I'm on Ubuntu 12.04 and what I did was :
 - Delete everything in ".vericoin" but wallet.dat
 - Delete everything in the QT folder
 - Download and extract the last source in the previous QT folder
 - Qmake then Make

Installation went fine and I can run the wallet but I can't sync anymore and my coins are all unconfirmed.

Can somebody help me please ?  Smiley

So,

What will make vericoin succeed once the initial excitement and pumping stops, what makes it worth holding given that it is purely a PoS coin - and is far less established/available/accessible than many other longer and older coins that are finding it hard currently

My Vericoin in my wallet earns interest while my Bitcoin in my Coinbase account does not.  I can spend my Vericoin wherever I would have normally been using Bitcoin.   For me, the interest is one of the bigger factors.

Hi Everyone, fork is complete with update 1.3.3!

Go here to download the new wallet: www.vericoin.info

Backup your wallet.dat first before proceeding, it's location is listed below for your system.

Windows:
We recommend uninstalling old VeriCoin program in remove programs control panel, then deleting everything but wallet.dat in your username\appdata\roaming\VeriCoin folder and running the default installer settings.  This will load up the full block and you will be on the splash screen for 30-60 minutes while it loads the blockchain data.

Mac:
We recommend deleting everything but wallet.dat from user/library/applicationsupport/vericoin and putting these two files in this directory as well: http://www.vericoin.info/downloads/vericoin.conf http://www.vericoin.info/downloads/bootstrap.dat
You will sit at the splash screen for 30-60 minutes while the whole blockchain loads up.

Linux:
We recommend deleting everything from .vericoin but wallet.dat, putting these two files in this directory as well: http://www.vericoin.info/downloads/vericoin.conf http://www.vericoin.info/downloads/bootstrap.dat

Install necessary dependencies if you haven't already.  (Debian)
sudo apt-get install qt4-qmake libqt4-dev build-essential libboost-dev libboost-system-dev libboost-filesystem-dev libboost-program-options-dev libboost-thread-dev libssl-dev libdb++-dev libminiupnpc-dev libboost-all-dev libqrencode-dev git

You will sit at the splash screen for 30-60 minutes while the whole blockchain loads up.

If anyone else has wallet issues, please look a bit down the first page, there is a link to post from the developers on how to upgrade after the hack.
