I also don't feel like doing physical security and worrying about burglars and fires (just had my office burn down, don't need that fear). I guess the bulk will be in bank accounts, let them shave off 20% or whatever, I don't care. Still 90% in crypto anyways, 5% metal. When bitcoin reaches 10k, I'll put some in real estate and/or land.

On a side-note: since I cashed out some fiat to be able to settle possible tax liabilities (in case my bitcoin gains tax scheme is rejected or interpretation of tax regulation in germany changes and at the same time bitcoins fails hard) I came to the conclusion that stuff is really hard to secure: I just don't know where to put the crap! Don't want to leave it in my bank account (that's an investment in the bank or at least a 3rd party rsik), don't want to stuff it under the mattress (risk of theft and fire) and I can't seem to figure out a way how to make a fiat brainwallet.

I think I'll settle for some kind of distributive strategy. Any ideas? Dig a hole in the woods?

True indeed.  A significant part of the reason I got interested in Bitcoin in the first place is because there is a distinct upper limit on the amount of cash I want to have on-hand.  This because I am conically concerned about being Cyprus'd.  I am feeling significant pressure to take some profits, but am struggling to decide the best mode which results in cash in a demand account for the shortest time possible.  I'd rather not go through fiat at all but the range of items for sale denominated in Bitcoin is limited.  Items that I want anyway.

Hopefully when I profit-take again in a year or two the landscape will be more conducive to trading straight across for shit which appeals to me.

Had you asked me in 2012 or first half of 2013 I would've said: dude, be patient. At least 5 more years before any significant person-on-the-street or online merchant adoption happens. I clearly remember holding this opinion in March.

Now, with the huge awareness-boost and repeated survival of Bitcoin in latter part of 2013, I really think we're getting there faster. Bitcoin is sneaking into the backs of the heads of the general population as a viable alternative money and the awareness of the population getting scammed hard by the current monetary system and its masters is only rising. I've already been buying food and a massage (kind of, had to mix in some fiat) irl this year from non-technically-inclined people.

I'm not sure what appeals to you, but it's looking at least an order of a magnitude more achievable to me than 1 year ago.

I can't wait, to be honest. Not necessarily only because I'll be able to buy stuff with Bitcoin, but also because this makes the goal of living in a society that uses honest money come that much closer. I despise of our current slave masters with such a passion that making them as powerless as ourselves would be a satisfaction so great one couldn't really ask for more.

It can be fixed, just no sense of urgency yet, at least not enough to get a hard-fork done, it will be done when the time is right.
