So, I updated the settings posts to include the latest options we've discussed the last couple of days.  Here're the items that still need votes:

Action Item list:
    • 12. Point per First Down? - 1 vote opposed, 5 votes in favor[12]
    • 13. Increase draft from 30 seconds to 60 seconds? - 0 votes opposed, 5 votes in favor [13]
    • 14. Increase draft from 30 seconds to 90 seconds? - 5 votes opposed, o votes in favor [14]
    • 15. -2 for interceptions? - 0 votes opposed, 5 votes in favor [15]

this is a bad sign, the draft has not started and @DireWolfM14 is already reading my mind. Grin

Yeah, baby!  And it starts.  Pretty soon I'll be living rent free in all of your brains!  Muahahaha!
    1042  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: Need 110$ PayPal f&f paying 110$ BTC or LTC on: August 27, 2022, 07:39:21 PM
Unfortunately, you can't do Paypal at BISQ. The same reasons, I think .... - reversible.

There's nothing unfortunate about that.  PayPal has been anti freedom since day one, the fees are ridiculous, and there're little protections for sellers.  It's the worst payment processor for businesses, and only results in consumers paying higher prices for the privilege of using PayPal.

    And, it's reversable for months.

Eliminating the risk part, the other issue with PayPal now for US people is the taxes.

PayPal is now forced to issue tax forms if you receive more then $600 a year in total. If you only get as F&F you can 'explain it away' as getting paid back for things. However, getting it as G&S there is no possibility of not paying taxes on it unless you have a way of writing it off.

    Just saying....

    -Dave

I use Zelle to transact with fiat on Bisq, which is basically just a direct withdrawal from, or deposit to my bank account.  There're are provisions to pay for services or goods, but it's mostly a way to pay individuals.  The same tax implications would apply regardless of which payment service one used.

As for what to claim on your taxes, I think it's best to use legitimate deductions to reduce your tax burden.

If you're buying bitcoin, keep accurate records of the costs.  For the coins I earn from the campaigns I'm subscribed to, I claim the USD value (at the time of payment) as "subcontractor" income, and that's the "cost" I attribute to the coins for my records.  To reduce the tax burden I can claim a portion of my house as a "home office."  I can also deduct a percentage of my service fees for internet and electricity.  Any equipment I need to buy for my computer can also be deducted, either in part or in whole depending on it's intended use.

Keeping good records of my costs makes it easy to determine capital gains when (if) I sell.  There are also options when doing this, i.e. you can pick specific UTXOs to sell that have a smaller capital gains to claim, or you can use your average cost.  But what ever way you chose, you have to stick to it.

It doesn't pay to lie to the IRS, and these days they're armed!  Roll Eyes
    1043  Economy / Reputation / Re: Trust abuse by user SFR10 on: August 27, 2022, 06:22:04 PM
If i unlock my topic, which we don't need any posts on it than only ours for stock and prices, people like this one who post non-proof based non-sense will spam on it.

That may be true, but in normal circumstances newbies posting unproven accusations will largely go ignored, especially if the organization in question has a good reputation.  If the service provider is new, or otherwise unproven, then it's their obligation to put others' minds at ease.  Post links to your reviews or other references.  It's one thing to come here and claim that you're legit, and then there're actions you can take to prove it.  So far, you've only made the claims.

Canaan, Creative Zhensen and many many more all using Telegram.
Just because many scammers using it, that doesn't mean everyone using Telegram is scam.
We, the suppliers most of the time using WhatsApp, which is also known as "scammers paradise".
But we want or no, we have to use instant-chat programs to communicate.
You should not put everyone in same shoe just because some instant-chat app have bad reputation-

Deflection is not a professional way to deal with criticism.  All of us who use Telegram are aware of it's legitimate uses, there's no need to remind us.  We're also aware of how simple it is for people to completely disappear from Telegram.

Again, if you want to put an end to these allegations the ball is in your court.  If you were to post links to your reviews and partner referrals, I'm sure SFR10 will remove his negative review, and most likely this thread will wither away.  Isn't that what you want?
    1044  Economy / Reputation / Re: Trust abuse by user SFR10 on: August 27, 2022, 05:42:53 PM
I think negative feedback is too strong if it's based on only this post:
    ~
Neutral feedback should be more than enough to point any potential buyer towards that post, so they can make their own decision. I kinda expect people who pay thousands of dollars for hardware to take their own precautions anyway, and not just trust anything they see online.

Normally I would be in agreement with this, and at first I had the same reaction.  But, even before seeing SFR10's reply just above I looked through the OPs posts, and decided SFR10's precautionary red-tag may not be out-of-line after all.

Newbie whitepunk has a point about the locked thread though. @YCTMatt: it's better if you unlock your topic, instead of asking people to contact you on (scammers' paradise) Telegram.

That's a red flag, but it's far from being the only one.  All the photos on the telegram channel seem staged, and the prices of the equipment are on the "too good to be true" side of the spectrum.  At this point I can't help but agree that dealing with this user poses a high risk.
1045  Economy / Lending / Re: Need 0.5 [BTC] loan, please read on: August 27, 2022, 04:16:47 PM
All the best on your noble endeavour of keeping the forum safe.

Thank you, I take it seriously.

I cannot PM you (though you could very well have ... to state the above)

Whose fault is that?  There're very few user names in my PM blacklist, and only because I got tired of being spammed with whining and deflection.  Besides, I think this is a conversation best had in public.

sorry OP, for replying within this thread.

Lol, again with the lies?  You could have just as easily responded to my questions in your own thread.

Thank you for confirming that you're so sure of your own story (based on all your gathered evidence: fact, fiction, theories, quotes, feelings, proof, "odds-are", past happenings, etc, reasonings, other 'evidence' which serve to confirm your statement, belief, accusations, etc) that you claim whole-heartedly and could probably go on to insist that you 'know' the truth here .. oh my.

From this base, you take action: you state your accusation which, unfortunately may already be a set-in-stone conclusion to you - you are certain that I have an active loan under another account. I get it: made because you probably 'actually have everything to confirm it'. Wrong. You do not have Truth.

    Alas ...

Interesting to see this accusation come to light (I believe this is the first time I'm hearing of it) and addressed to me like this.

Okay, fair enough.  I admit I was being antagonistic (and maybe a bit cantankerous,) with that comment, but I'm certainly not convinced of anything.  If I was convinced you'd have another red-tag from me.

All that being said, I will simply refer you to that account's "untrusted feedback".

So, you do have a claim on the account, as suggested by your "untrusted feedback."  Also, some things that were said to me via Telegram gave me the suspicion that you either sold that account in exchange for the "loan," and that somehow you still have partial ownership.  It's not an unreasonable thing to ask given that you're trying to get someone to loan you $4k.

I end with your own words...

Get a grip on reality, dumbass.

Haha, okay, maybe I deserved that.  Or maybe you're the one being antagonistic and cantankerous now.

Why didn't you read the thread before posting?
    1048  Other / Archival / Re: WasabiWallet.io | Open-source, non-custodial Bitcoin Wallet for desktop on: August 27, 2022, 03:08:53 PM
Wasabi is part of the problem here, not part of the solution.

Agree 100%.  The fud and misinformation being spread by the Wasabi team is only meant as deflection.  Bitcoin may not be perfect, but it's hundreds of times better than any fiat on the planet.  Bitcoin's fungibility, however is perfect, so any "taint proclamation" is an effort to centralize the ability to determine which coins remain fungible.  It's not only short-sighted, it's down right sinister.

And how do we know what actions "put someone at risk" considering Wasabi have not revealed which blockchain analysis company they are paying to spy on you or what their criteria are?

Would it really matter which chain analysis provider was used?  Do any of them have any legitimate way of insuring their results are accurate?  What level of accuracy is expected?

Let's assume for a second that chain analysis data was being used as evidence in a court room; what level of accuracy would be expected to refer to the data as anything but circumstantial?  It's a rhetorical question; it would need to be verified as 100% accurate for it be considered anything but circumstantial.  But what accuracy can we really expect?  Is 80% accuracy enough to alleviate one's fear of accepting "tainted" coins?  What individual or business would be okay with having 20% of their income blocked by their bank?

And what's the criteria for determining what's tainted and what isn't?  In the USA alone we have states have legalized the recreational use of marijuana, but many states continue to ban the recreational use of marijuana.  If I were to legally sell weed in one state in exchange for bitcoin, can I spend that bitcoin in another state where marijuana is banned?  Would chain analysis flag my UTXOs based on the location of my intended "send to" address?  How would they know?   What if I accepted cash instead, would the same restrictions apply?

What if it's all arbitrary, anyway and one exchange clears the coins, yet another decides to blacklist them?

It sounds very much like you are saying "Well, just make sure you have nothing to hide, and then you'll have nothing to worry about."

I'm of the opinion that if you're using bitcoin, you have something to hide.  Even if that may not true right now, just wait 15 minutes.

Before I consider your request I think it's fair to ask what your involvement is with 2double0?

So, it's been two days since I've asked the question and you've been online multiple times.  Are you ignore me?  Is 2double0 your alt account?

It seems like you had some claim over this account for quite some time according to this review you left for 2double0, I got this from your trust wall:

2double0    2019-01-27        OPEN LOAN. I have loaned this user and am waiting on more repayments. Account cannot be used as collateral.

Please let me know how you are involved with this account.

Just another poor guy who's bored on the internet, and hopes someone will use him as a middleman because it is "completely anonymous and secure".
He's on my Ignore list now.

I hope you're right, but that thread seems far more nefarious than mere boredom would explain.

Still 155usd paypal needed for 150usd btc or ltc

You are putting yourself at risk by accepting PayPal, and especially if you're accepting PayPal from newbies and dealing on Telegram.  I recommend using Bisq.network and only deal with more secure payment providers.
1053  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Hardware wallet FUD (nonce attacks, unofficial firmware, etc) on: August 26, 2022, 02:16:40 PM
The argument is that there is no way for users to know that the firmware signed by the maker is the one that is actually running on the device (only that the device claims that its running that).
That's wrong; you flash the device yourself using the firmware downloaded and verified from the website whenever you update it, actually. So every time you do, you re-verify that everything's fine.

    Interesting.

Is this flashing you talk about done by the official hardware wallet app? (BitBox App, Trezor Suite, etc)

Or is this something I need to do separately myself?

I wrote a guide on how to verify Electrum, most hardware client-software such as Trezor Suite can be verified the same way.  As n0nce mentioned, the firmware for the Trezor (for example) is updated through the Trezor Suite client, which of course should be verified before it is used to update firmware.

Other vendors may do things a bit differently, for example the ColdCard hardware wallet verifies the firmware itself before installing it.  When upgrading the firmware on a ColdCard, you download it and store it on mSD card, and then load the mSD card into the hardware wallet.  Once you start the upgrade process the firmware is verified by the device before it's installed.
1054  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Crypto currency wallet design on: August 26, 2022, 01:45:34 PM
My intent is to build and release via Google Play, Microsoft Store and Apple Store as that seems to be the only way people are able to install software on their devices today. Side-loading is an option, but most people won't be familiar with the concept.

People have been downloading and installing software on Windows for decades without the Microsoft Store, and Mac users are quite used to .dmg app images.  If you're goal is only to support mobile devices, then those stores will be more commonly used, but I would still make the binaries available for download outside the app stores and also make it possible to verify the authenticity of the files.

I intend the wallet to be able to import 12 to 24 word, Mnemonic strings (as well as the optional Passphrase) from other types of wallets. So the software-wallet will support "Hidden Wallets" as well as Accounts (the default is 20 accounts, each containing 20 addresses).

No ability to generate its own seed phrase?

It will be closed source. If the wallet is storing the Master Private Key that is derived from the Mnemonic string and Passphrase, I don't want others to be able to look at the code and see how and what encryption was used, how the Master Private Key is saved after encryption.

Deal breaker!  Most wallets handle the encryption of sensitive data on the client side by using strong passwords.  If you can't trust your potential users to handle their own security, why would they trust your hidden code?

I have devised a way to make notes for each Private Key/Public Key/Address in such a way that each Address can be named and have notes (via editable text area) tagged to it. Again, the Address Name and Notes will be encrypted when saved, then decrypted when the User starts up the app. The Name and Notes will NOT be saved with the Master Private Key - they would be saved separately and in a different location. The only way to connect the Name and Notes to an Address would be to use the deviration path indices.

Every wallet I know of allows addresses to be labeled, this is nothing new.

    I would like to know:
    • what you think makes a good software-wallet?
    • what makes a bad software-wallet?
    • what am I forgetting?
    • what am I over looking?

Good wallets are open-source, bad wallets are not.  Trust is a major issue in the crypto world, as it should be.  The only way to gain the trust of the community is to be as transparent as possible with your code.

As for features to add, one of my biggest pet-peeves about Electrum (the primary light client I use) is it's privacy issues.  To resolve them I have to run my own SPV server and connect all my devices to that server.  If I could connect Electrum directly to my instance of bitcoin core that would resolve a lot of those issues.  There are other light clients out there that do that, and I think it's starting to become a more common feature.  That's one suggestion.  Otherwise I don't see many improvements that can be made to Electrum, for example.

If you were nopara73, what decision would you make, that you believe, would be best for yourself, WasabiWallet, and its users?

How about I list the things I wouldn't do if I were in nopara73's position:

I certainly wouldn't bite the hand that feeds me.
I wouldn't spread FUD by saying outlandishly stupid things like "keeping bitcoin fungible."
I wouldn't suffer from delusions of grandeur, and bill myself as the savior of bitcoin's fungibility.
I wouldn't fear my own shadow or use a made up excuse to suck-up to institutional investors and government jackals.

In other words, I don't give a fuck what nopara73 does with his coinjoin provider or his wallet.  He can stick it up his ass with all his deflections and grandiose dreams of becoming bigger than Microsoft.  He's a tool and and shyster.  If he cared about bitcoin he wouldn't be trying to sell it out to institutions and government regulators.  Bitcoin was invented to free us from those very entities who's asses he's kissing, and he can keep sucking butt, for all I care.  Nobody gives a rat's ass about him or his wallet, as has been demonstrated by Wasabi's dwindling downloads.  He's got no one to blame for that but himself.

OK, everyone has joined so I set draft order and did a final setting run through.

    Wootwoot!

I noticed "Determine waiver priority by" is set for continual rolling list which is yahoo default.
We had "Reverse order of standings" last year.
Should we vote on this setting?

Reverse order of standings would help those that get shafted in the draft or had some bad luck with injuries.  It would also make the league more competitive as time goes on, and maybe prevent any one from getting discouraged and quitting.  I'm okay either way, but I think I like reverse order of standings better.

I also changed "Lock Eliminated Teams" setting as it was set to no and there is no good reason for a team that has been eliminated from both consolation bracket and playoff bracket to be changing its roster.

I agree with this.  It's only going to apply to the last two weeks of the season anyway.

If I forgot anything let me know.

The only thing I'll add is that we're still pending two payments, and BTC is cheap right now...   Wink

I just played with it a bit, and the site is looking good.  I like the night mode feature, cool addition.  I'm sure it's still a work in progress but I did find an issue that you may want to resolve; I found that it doesn't convert backwards from fiat to BTC, i.e. if I want to see how much bitcoin is equivalent to $500 USD (or any fiat) the BTC field is stuck at "1".

Changing the fiat amount doesn't change the BTC amount:
