Oh, I see.  Yes, that would actually be very helpful and much appreciated.  I would trust an ISO provided by you, but only in a locked up VM  Tongue  Lol, just kidding.  You've developed an honorable reputation here, and I wouldn't hesitate to play around with a binary furnished by you.  I do trust that you know what you're doing, so your skill level wouldn't be an issue at all.

I agree it's always best for one to learn how to ensure his own safety, security, and privacy.  Being able to compile binaries straight off the trunk is a good way to verify the checksums of various apps that are developed by folks for whom I have yet to develop trust.  I don't bother with Electrum or Core, but somethings are just worth the extra care.

That you're wasting your time asking for a loan here.

That's super cool, don't recall any other hardware wallet vendors providing a simulator before.  I'll have to fire up a VM and play around with it sometime soon.  I actually have a lot of IT work to do in the next few weeks to make sure I can access all my servers while traveling oversees, so I'm not sure when I'll get around to it.  I might just get to set it up so I have something to play with on long flight.
I believe ColdCard has had one for a while, too. https://github.com/Coldcard/firmware

Lol, now that you mention it I was aware of that simulator.  In fact I played with the Mk3 version about a year and half ago.  They say the memory is the first thing to go...

If you have a specific preferred Linux distro for VMs, I can spin one up real quick, install & set everything and dump the history file for you.
Be aware that it can start up fine with missing dependencies and then crash when you try to e.g. open the camera or do something else in the simulator. Wink That's why I bring it up.

Thanks for the offer!  I may take you up on it, but usually I prefer to compile these types of things myself.  I learned how to compile binaries from source back when Electrum was implementing Lightning, and I didn't have the patience to wait until they released the new version.  I won't say I'm anywhere near an expert on it, but I don't mind fumbling around until I figure it out.

As for distros, I still prefer Ubuntu Minimal for Desktop environments, but lately I've been partial to Debian for my servers.

The funds that have been collected to date are still in the multi-sig wallet controlled by me and the other two original escrow agents.  Once a new escrow team is established, the funds will be transferred to the new wallet crated by the new team.  None of my private keys will be shared with anyone.

I am one of the escrow team members that decided to step down.  The decision is based on personal reasons which I do not care to discuss here.  Anyone is welcome to PM me at any time for any reason.  Depending on who you are, if you PM me to ask about my reasons for backing down from the CC escrow team I may oblige you, or I may tell you to mind your own business.  Rest assured the reasons behind my decision have nothing to do with the project scope, the other team members, or my perception of the projects ability to succeed.

I think it's actually a great idea to try this out to see how you like the Passport's UI, workflows and make yourself familiar with it, especially if you're waiting to receive one already.
Here's an image of the landing screen.

Actually, I'm waiting for your review before I order one.  Tongue

I need three sacks and a turnover from the Cowboys' defense tonight and also keep the Giants away from scoring more than 27pts.

Jones has 1x fumble and an interception in those first two games, has also been sacked 8 times....just 5 points, pretty pleaaase! Let's go Big D!  Cheesy
You should have asked for a blocked field goal.

Lol, don't ask and ye shall receive anyway.

Watching the game with Payton and Eli is funny, they make it hard not to root for the Giants.  Even if it's mostly rooting against the Cowboys.

That offensive pass interference penalty that drove the Giants back to 3rd and 23 was BS.
1067  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Open source wallet and closed source wallet discussion on: September 26, 2022, 06:04:26 PM
If you can't see how things are running (coding) wouldn't that make it harder to attack such code or network?

It might make things harder on scammers, but if they're determined enough that's just a small obstacle.  Many malicious wallets aren't even that sophisticated, and in large part they don't need to be.  In some cases they only need to look like the original, and obviously the code is going to differ somewhat for the scam to occur.

On the other hand, of course, is the trust issue:  How do we know that a rogue employee doesn't imbed some malicious code into Binance's wallet?  Without being open-source, verifiable, and reproduceable by the general public something like that may months before it's caught.

Open source is especially critical in the crypto world, where we are expected to operate without the need to trust anyone.
1068  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🏈🏈 The American Football Discussion Thread 🏈🏈 on: September 26, 2022, 05:52:44 PM
Yeah that looked classic concussion wobble.  They claimed it was a back issue so 🤷.   I've never seen someone wobble like that unless their brains got scrambled for a second.

That was pretty bad, and didn't look like a back injury to me either.  Post game announcers said that one of the coaches thought it was a head injury, but then they let him go back onto the field.  I also heard that the NFL will be investigating the incident, so I'm sure we'll learn more in the following few days.  I would venture to guess that Tua won't be in the line up this coming weekend.  If I'm guessing right that it's a head injury, protocol will keep him sidelined for at least a week.

Miami and the Eagles are definitely the top 2 surprises to day.  Eagles look real strong and seems as though the debate of jalen hurts good enough will be over.  Can't see them replacing him playing this well.  Dude has over 900 yards passing in his first 3 games and has played flawlessly.

Miami...dang, wasn't expecting that.  I know adding hill was a power move but they look like they will battle Buffalo for first all year long.

....GO GIANTS.

That is surprising stuff, I doubt anyone would have guessed that Miami would be the only undefeated AFC team going into week 4, or that the only undefeated teams in the NFC would both be from Eastern division.  I don't see the Cowboys winning tonight's game, so I'm expecting (and rooting for) the Giants to continue their streak.  It's always nice to see games being so unpredictable, it makes for a much more competitive and fun season.  The worst thing is when a team just runs away with it.  Unless that team is the 9ers, of course.  That wouldn't be bad.  Cheesy
1069  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Marketplace (Altcoins) / Re: Have usdc looking for cash on: September 26, 2022, 02:00:39 PM
If you're looking to avoid KYC Bisq is a good choice.  The only issue you're likely to face with Bisq is that all trades must include BTC, so you'll have to trade your USDC for bitcoin, then sell the bitcoin for cash.  In the US you can trade bitcoin for Zelle, which is fairly safe from charge-backs.  Since Bisq requires trade deposits, it tends to deter scammers anyway, so the risk is pretty minor.  It can also facilitate face to face transactions that are pretty safe, again due to the way bisq sends the funds to a 2 of 2 multi-sig wallet.  You can also facilitate selling bitcoin for US Postal Money Orders or Cash by Mail.

It looks like everyone in our league will have at least one win and one loss after week 3, which I think is great.

Congrats to Cows and Barbarians for defeating the two top teams.

As much as I hate to lose, I agree this a good start to the season.  It's great to have this kind of parity so early, it make it clear we'll all be competitive well into the latter part of the season.

Congrats to South Park and Hueristic on your first wins of the season.  Wishing you each about 4 or 5 more, but that's it!  Grin  Tongue  Kiss

It was a horrible weekend for me, with my sucky fantasy team, and even more sucky Niners.  Talk about safeties, how do you step out of the back of the endzone, then throw an interception?  God damn, I hate it when Garoppolo gets jumpy in the 4th quarter.  It's gotten to the point that whenever we go into the 4th with a lead, I just expect shit to collapse.

ETA: how the hell do I find the waiver order for this week?
1071  Economy / Lending / Re: [W] $500 loan in btc. Repayment $550. in 3 days on: September 25, 2022, 04:26:48 PM
I'm wondering how many of these recent lending board trolls are alts one person.

None of them have posted serious requests, but they've posted quite a lot.  Some might be a bit more subtle than this request, but they're all simply trolling the lending board.  It wouldn't surprise me if this is an older member that was slighted by one or more of the lending board regulars.

Damn, thought I was going to have the team I drafted all ready to go this week but no Butker decided to take another week off! Cheesy

It looks like you got yourself another kicker, but you left him on the bench.  You're kicker slot is empty right now...

Seriously, what was Tomlin thinking on that 4th and 1 while in the redzone needing a touchdown? Perhaps he saw he had no chance to win with Trubisky and chose to sink all the under bettors with him?  Grin

I'm not sure i fully understand his decision, he should have put the offense back on the field, following the penalty, and tried to keep the drive alive and possibly score. Huh I would've gone for it even at 4th and 5... Tomlin had some bad decisions last week as well, an insanely lucky win over the Bengals. Steelers deserved to be 0-3 to start the season. I don't see them doing any better with Trubisky at the helm, Tomlin being overly conservative, and last but not least no TJ Watt.

Lol, that struck me as odd also.  I don't often find myself second guessing Tomlin's decisions, usually that guy is Chess master when it comes to in-game strategies.  I understood settling for a field goal when it was 4th and 5+, but after the 12-man penalty reduced it to 4th a short yard?  The Steelers were down 9 points at the time, and we all know the odds of getting an on-sides kick is slim to none.  The announcers were questioning it a bit too, but decided that going for the sure points was the right call.  I disagree.  It was difficult for his team to get so far down the field, and that possession was one of the few time there got so close to the red zone.  It spoke more about how much (or little) the trusts Trubisky.

@JollyGood, I don't need you to respect me.  I have enough self-respect for both of us.

Speaking of self-respect, one lesson I pushed onto my children; self-respect can often be demonstrated by one's ability to take criticism.  Wink

Cooper was in fact on my radar but I decided to stay away from him because I thought that he was on a boom or bust situation in which he could do very well or he could do horribly.

I like Cooper, but I tend to agree with this.  I had the Cowboys version of Cooper on my Fantasy team last year, and he was hit or miss.  Being that he was one of Dak's favorite targets and considering the Cowboys aggressive air assault, I expected more from him.  Most of the time, however he performed as expected.  I still think he's a valuable addition to any fantasy team, but keep an eye on his opponents.  He'll perform better against undersized corners and safeties, and some teams (Giants) will just lock him up.
1076  Economy / Reputation / Re: Royse777 is Casino Critique on: September 23, 2022, 06:06:31 PM
That said, it would be so much better if that person disclosed their identity.  It'd put this discussion to bed at the very least.

Would it?  I'm not so sure.  There're a lot of personalities in this forum, not everyone is going to like everyone.  Hell, even Switzerland has made some enemies, and he's about the most even-keeled AI human I've encountered on the interwebs.

Besides, I don't think anyone on the CC team is going to disclose their real name.  The only thing these trolls are asking for is a different, anonymous bitcointalk user name.

1077  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Which hardware wallets are open source? on: September 23, 2022, 05:21:36 PM
It's really shocking that I'm just knowing that hardware wallets are of two types just like every other PC and mobile wallets, my thought was every hardware wallets are fully open source until a day ago thanks to this forum still but now which hardware wallet is open source?

I, myself had some confusion about this until a few months ago when I was doing some research about Coinkite's ColdCard hardware wallet.  The thing to keep in mind is that the term "open source" specifically applies to the licensing of an application.  There are several licensing structures that qualify as "open source" but one of the most common is the MIT License.  Essentially, open source licensing is very permissive, i.e. one can copy the software, change it, redistribute it, even profit from it without fear of legal repercussions.

ColdCard is a good example of a trusted wallet that does not use open source licensing for it's firmware.  The software is still transparent, allowing for the community to review it.  However, ColdCard's firware licensing prohibits redistribution of the software (or firmware, in this case.)  This is designed to protect Coinkite's intellectual property, while allowing for the community to verify it is safe to use.

Ledger is another example; their firmware is not open source, and as far as I know, it's not available for review.  Ledger uses a secure element, and I assume they are concerned that if they disclose the firmware that someone could use for it malicious purposes.  However, Ledger Live, the desktop application, is open source and adheres to the MIT License.

Personally, I'm partial to open source hardware wallets and I also recommend the Trezor, which I own and use regularly.  I do also own and use a ColdCard.  The important thing is to know what you're dealing with and assess your own comfort level with the device you choose.
1078  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Where to see the seed on: September 23, 2022, 04:21:21 PM
Hi, I recently have some problems with Electrum. I created the account at 2017 and I dont remember the seed & words. I know through the folder of electrum I can search it, but I dont know how the folder its called. I need some help Undecided

Electrum will allow you to see the seed phrase only if it was generated by Electrum itself.  If you imported a Bip39 seed phrase that was generated by Blockchain.info, a hardware wallet, or some other desktop wallet, Electrum will not store the seed phrase (only the master private key) and therefor you will not be able to display the seed phrase.

At this point I suggest you create a new wallet, write down the seed phrase, store it someplace safe, then send all the funds from your old wallet to the new one.

Electrum has an indicator at the bottom right of the window which will let you know if you have an Electrum seed phrase or not:

i decided to take the alt U39.5, just in case. Shit QBs playing on a short week with forecasted bad weather (wind gusts), i think we could see plenty of ground game...Chubb/Hunt could have a field day.

Well, you're up against the wire, there.  I'm rooting for you, hopefully the Browns can hold onto the current score.  Only six minutes left, lets go D!  I'm about to lose my bet one way or the other:

That wind is crazy, you can see the flags on the goalposts mostly horizontal.  It was funny watching that first field goal attempt start out looking perfect, then take a right turn.
