I don't know why but I can just feel the excitement and energy building up in this community again  Smiley

It's going to be a good month.
1262  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] BlackCoin (BC) | PoS | No premine | No IPO on: May 02, 2014, 06:31:30 PM
thanks once more, good ideas.
I like the idea with an independent platform for all things that are about organization and infrastructure.

One thing we should keep in mind that we cannot focus on internet and the english-speaking part of the world only.
For example, Bitcoin has become pretty big in Germany by now but that started with a localized version of MtGox and later an "own" exchange bitcoin.de.
I would be happy to do translation/localization for websites, press releases and software (i am pretty sure i'll find something where i can help with coding as well...).
The more people we find who help with those localizations the more professional it will appear to potential investors from the respective countries.

I agree. We also want to hit China.

We've scraped the surface with english speaking people, each further bit of penetration requires more effort, money and time. There's huge swathes of people out there we haven't even tapped into because of the language barrier.

BlackCoin Community Plan

As promised I came up with a basic plan that we all can build upon over time. I think as a community need to be on the same page to achieve our common goal to make BlackCoin  #1.
Before starting I was going to put this into a PDF and I decided to post it here so everyone can add whatever suggestions and comments to the plan. This is very long so please take a few minutes to read it.

Introduction:
Over the past few weeks this community has accomplished some amazing things in the name of BlackCoin, but lately we have lost focus on our main goal of making BlackCoin #1. Some of us have been conducting ourselves like juveniles on this forum, including myself. The first thing that needs to change around here is our decorum. We cannot continue to act the way we have been acting. There are some very talented and intelligent individuals here , and we do not have to attack each other to get our point across. We can have intense debates and still be respectful of each other. If and when trolls do enter our thread, we have to adopt a no tolerance policy. Do not quote them and kindly ask them to refrain from posting FUD. Do not aggressively engage or argue with them. This thread is key to attracting new talent and investors, and it needs to remain open but it also needs to remain fairly professional.

Mission:
Everyone keeps making the mistake of suggesting we can be the next Bitcoin. I do not want to be the next Bitcoin. In the eyes of the world Bitcoin doesn't exist. Yes we know about Bitcoin, and maybe 1 or 2 million people know about Bitcoin. However, if you ask 20 random people on the street if they know what Bitcoin is, I am willing to bet at least 19 of them would not have a clue what Bitcoin is. So although Bitcoin was the first, there is a very good opportunity to become the standard crypto-currency everyone knows and uses. There have been many examples in recent history when the first product to market is overshadowed by the newcomer because the newcomer had better marketing and branding.

Our mission is to strive to be the most recognized and used crypto-currency in the world.

Structure:
This is a hard one. BlackCoin is not a corporation and it will never be a corporation. It is a community funded project with many moving parts. However, it seems to have turned into a central organization with a community that has limited say. There are major issues with this approach but I will not address that now. Moving forward I propose we decentralize BlackCoin and turn it back into a community controlled project.

1. The development team focuses on development and the technical aspect of BlackCoin

2. The BlackCoin foundation focuses on supporting projects and whatever else they feel passionate about.

3. The community focuses on building the brand and handling the business side of BlackCoin. No one person or small group should decide the fate of BlackCoin.

I own the domain GoBlackCoin.com and we can turn that into a community hub for discussions, new ideas, projects, events,  and everything else related to BlackCoin. We can have tutorials, market info,...etc..etc. Senior members of the BlackCoin community can be admins and mods. it will be a complete social network for the BlackCoin community. I can have that up and running by mid June.

Technology:
The current BlackCoin client is based off the original Bitcoin client. We should begin to move forward with a more unique design that is tailored more for BlackCoin. Every wallet client is pretty much a carbon copy of the previous client with little differences here and there. It is hard to portray unique and innovative when the software for the wallet is similar in design to every other wallet.

Using BlackCoin at retail locations will be made easier using CoinKite, but I must admit I think cypto is going backwards with this approach. Using cards and terminals to make purchases is 20th century technology, and I have no idea why the currency of the future needs to use redesigned 20th century technology. Google has it right with their technology using an ordinary smart phone to make purchases.

We need to make it easier and cost effective for any merchant to accept BlackCoins without the hassle of extra terminals and cards. There are tons of locations that already support Google's technology, and maybe we need to tie into that network somehow.

Marketing & Brand Awareness:
We have already  proven that press releases have a positive effect on getting investors excited and garnering the attention of the crypto-community. But there is so much more we can be doing
a) Social media should be a top priority. We have members who have graciously offered to Tweet regularly and upload photos to Instagram. We must utilize every aspect of social media.

b) Events will be crucial to building brand awareness. The Wall Street event is just one example of how we need to be creative and think out the box. We need to sponsor small concerts, raise money for charities,  and sponsor high profile non-crypto related events

c) Traditional print ads in magazines is an option we will need to explore. Bitcoin placed an ad in Wired Magazine. That was a good idea but I would have opted for one of the financial magazines first. We need to go where the money is, and financial magazines is where we need to be.

d) Times Square billboard! Yes we need to go big! At this time it is not feasible to buy a billboard in Times Square, but as the marketcap of BlackCoin increases we can have a BlackCoin billboard in the middle of Times Square.

e) Radio is also an option we need to pursue. Radio is not expensive at all and can be effective with the right ad and audience.

f) Celebrity endorsements. A-list celebrities are expensive, but there are very popular celebrities that are not exactly A-list but have a huge following. Their fees are significantly less than an A-list celebrity but can be just as effective at making BlackCoin popular.

g) Sponsor poker tournaments and have the players paid in BlackCoin.

Infrastructure & Partnerships:
We have been very lucky to have been added to some of the top exchanges and services in such a short span of time. I think as a community we have been very effective in this area and we just need to keep contacting services and keep requesting they add us.

Coinbase is a Bitcoin only service but I think they are rethinking their position on that. If we can show how powerful and innovate BlackCoin is, maybe in the future we can convince them to add us.
Every time I send BTC to an exchange it takes a lifetime to  confirm. However, when you compare that to BlackCoin it seems almost instant. This is a major advantage and we need Bitcoin only services to understand Bitcoin is yesterdays technology.

Recruitment:
We need the most talented people onboard to help with this project. Talented and knowledgeable people are priceless, and we need to establish an environment that welcomes and nurtures talented people.
BlackCoin will succeed or fail based on the efforts of the community. Without a passionate and active community BlackCoin will slowly die like many coins before it.

"If you do what you have always done you will get what you have always gotten".....

I agree with this. I also think we should be sure to use #blackcoin hashtag wherever possible. Instagram, twitter, facebook etc.

If I can remind people I am a web developer with years of experience. Anyone who has ideas, give me them to me.
1264  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] BlackCoin (BC) | PoS | No premine | No IPO on: May 02, 2014, 06:23:57 PM
Anyone know any more or have any good links for the changes to the POS mechanism?

Do you mean the announced changes from rat4?
The changes are shown in detail here:
https://github.com/rat4/blackcoin/compare/master...protocolv2

Thank you.

Is there an updated wallet we need to download?  Or does the change take effect with the blockchain synch?

It is currenty purely a test, no new protocol just yet. This has to be tested extensively first.

Has rat4/anyone else done a press release for this? What were the criticisms (s)he is trying to address and how will the new system differ from the previous one?

Edit: If it is a test the press release might be ott, granted. But investors and potential investors will still be curious.

We should be making more noise about this if the testing is successful.

rat4 improving the the proof of stake algorithm would be a MAJOR bit of news.

It's an advancement of cryptocurrency.

I also strongly believe a portion of Peercoin investors will gain interest in Blackcoin if we improve upon their protocol.
1265  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] IPO of MaidSafe:  Entering the Future of the Decentralized Internet on: May 02, 2014, 06:16:16 PM

At the end of the day BTC investors were promised 17,000 maid for 1 btc (+40% bonus) and thats what was delivered. Nothing more, nothing less.
My 2 cents.

Your logic is ridiculous. I see a couple of other people defending this robbery with these insane arguments.

So if 17000 maidsafecoins plunge to zero in value, nothing is lost right? Because you've still got your 17000 maidsafecoins worth nothing?  Roll Eyes

Simple fact is, anyone who invested via BTC (which was millions of dollars worth in total) have realised an instant loss. Btw what happened with maidsafe in a regulated market would actually be illegal. People have served jail time for dodgy IPO offerings which screw investors. So for people to come in here and say "oh you've still gotten your 17,000 maidsafe coins what's the problem?" are making themselves look very ignorant indeed.

Some very negative press will be coming maidsafe's way soon.
1266  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] BlackCoin (BC) | PoS | No premine | No IPO on: May 02, 2014, 05:59:24 PM

Plus 300 million
Crosspost from the other wc-thread, because I think it needs to be said:

Yes, there are problems. No, they won't kill wc. Yes, there are rough times ahead but we will overcome this problems. wc is an orphant, thrown in a dog-eat-dog-world of batteling cryptos with no mercy and zero tolerance for errors and a lot of people who religiously fight for their coin of belief. But the ones who survive this are worth it. They got tested. They were hated and were doomed to fail but - over time - stood their ground.

I bought a lot of Doge at 20 sat when everybody said "I'ts dead." - because it was obvious the community was (and is) worth so much more. This is the same thing. It's not as big as doge, obviously, but it got the interest of many crypto-related people. It's the people that believed in wc who are leading the way now, nobody would fight in a shitstorm like this if it wasn't for the greater good. Not everybody is in it for the money, but of course, we should rally to fund their hard work after the dust settled. Because the people who are working right now for wc deserve it.

And I know my opinion might be unsupported by some traders but I think for a great future of crypto, battles like this have to be fought and won while crypto is evolving into something new. Think of evolution, it's perfectionism by failure and only the strong survive. wc has already shown that it has a lot of supporters in all crypto-related areas. It IS strong, you can't deny it. Even the trolls stopped their trolling and stared at the rising price, at a volume that was under the Top 3 while the wallet was frozen. Just think about that. Yes, it was abandoned by its creator, who left it with a broken code in the dark alleys of cryptotown, but people found it and revived it. And they won't stop now. That's so much more than your generic random-coin. Now, many people seem to have developed empathy for the community behind this coin, because they won't stop fighting for it.

It really is ridiculous how nervous everybody gets when there isn't a 200% rise in the first month. Let it show and let it grow, if you think you're better of with cinni or asia then go ahead and give it a try. I am happy for your wins but if you lose, try to improve the people around your investment, don't jump the next train and leave everything just to make a quick buck. This is just bad for crypto in general and could stop people from investing in new technologies. I know nobody in their right mind would say "Yes!" to this, but I really think this is how we succeed as a whole.

Nope. This community is full of bag holders who will exit out of this mess at the first opportunity.

I don't underestimate bagholders as they have enormous drive to dig themselves out of shit. But once the coin goes up just slightly and then flatlines, watch how quickly everyone scrambles for the exit, relieved to get out at only a 10% loss from this nightmare.
1268  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Compairing price paid by BTC and MSC Backers of Maidsafe IPO on: May 01, 2014, 10:05:31 PM

I'm going to give them a couple more days to clear this up. At the bare minimum they need to acknowledge clearly that one party of people were able to acquire safecoins significantly cheaper than the other party of people at the same time. Thus causing BTC investors to realise an instant loss.

Instant loss?  I invested via BTC and I still have all my maidsafecoin.  I've experienced zero loss.

For some reason you argue with everyone who is angry about the unfair situation that has occurred.

The maidsafe I bought with my BTC is now worth significantly less in terms of BTC. That is a loss. And it occurred because of the incorrect way Maidsafe distributed the coins.

I expect you now to keep trying to twist things as you have already demonstrated in this thread your biased point of view. The rest of us wait to see what the Maidsafe team will or will not do about this.
1269  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Compairing price paid by BTC and MSC Backers of Maidsafe IPO on: May 01, 2014, 09:53:12 PM
Compairing the price paid by BTC and MSC Backers of Maidsafe IPO I find Out this:

I think MaidSafe team should take action and Pay to BTC Backers more Bonus to cover this unfair IPO, Period.

so the only way now for MS to fix this is give away enough MS to make this equal, else its probably not going to float well. They need to desam and fast.

One way would be to send a % of BTC back to the BTC addresses to make equal to MSC.  Lets see how legit they are.

This would likely raise the MS value by quite a lot and thus help the whole project

I'm a big supporter of what maidsafe hopes to achieve, but this fiasco has unfairly punished a large majority of people that have put their trust and faith in this team and this project.

Something needs to be done to compensate the BTC investors and level the playing field.
You can't have an IPO and unfairly reward one half of investors arbitrarily.
This is not the way you do business.

I suggest we start a petition,
If everyone who invested via BTC signs it I think they will have no choice but to take it seriously.

I'm going to give them a couple more days to clear this up. At the bare minimum they need to acknowledge clearly that one party of people were able to acquire safecoins significantly cheaper than the other party of people at the same time. Thus causing BTC investors to realise an instant loss.

How they will resolve this or if they are willing to resolve it is also another question that needs answering.

Put this up last night. I still have a lot I want to improve, but it's getting there. Smiley Let me know about any Blackcoin links that you don't see there! I want to have everything useful to a Blackcoin holder or someone interested in Blackcoin on that site.

Nice work pal. I like it.

It's going to be interesting watching that fill up over time with more Blackcoin links.
1271  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] BlackCoin (BC) | PoS | No premine | No IPO on: May 01, 2014, 08:35:53 PM
Who keeps dumping insane amounts of coins? People need to BUY AND HOLD. Stop flash selling. Your ruining your own investment. If you want to make a quick 5-10%, good for you. If you think 5-10% return is enough to celebrate, go ahead. Or, hold onto it, and wait 2 week sand you will be up quite a bit more than 5-10%.

Theres only 74 million coins. Im seeing millions of coins dumped each day. If you hold your coins --> less coins on market. With the BC mining pool buying up a few hundred k coins per day, it would litterly take less than a week for your investment to start rising dramatically.

Whales + fools  Roll Eyes

only a few 100k bc is trading each day. and that 100k sell was taken down pretty quick. buyers in no rush, sellers getting impatient.

once it moves forward all those super impatient people will panic buy back in.

Yup. Most people make the mistake of buying in only when the price starts to rocket. When the the price is drifting gently like now, that is the really profitable time to buy a coin with solid fundamentals.

Just watch, when the price next starts jumping upwards everyone will come pouring in to buy.  Grin
1272  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][AC]AsiaCoin - Version1.0.0.1 Released - Please Upgrade your wallet on: May 01, 2014, 07:36:54 PM
to hold or not to hold that is the question  Huh

This coin is 2 weeks old.. The dev is still going to release his multipool. And he has no reason not to reply right now. He could buy a shit load of coins now and then come up with some great news and price goes up. So no fucking reason for him to leave all of sudden. I love his website its gorgeous. Everytime went smooth. He even posted videos on how wallet worked etc, how to mine etc.

You are a retard if you sell after 2 weeks. Even blackcoin wich got dumped at 3k really really hard, went back up. It went to 90k got a big big dump to 15k and went back to 50k before setting a floor at 25k

yea right. This cione will hit 2k again soon

BC dumped exactly 9400 satoshi to 3000 in 3 days

You cant compare BC with AC its like comparing Bitcoin with Litecoin.

If AC gets "whitecoined" these naive people new to crypto will quickly learn a lesson.
1273  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] BlackCoin (BC) | PoS | No premine | No IPO on: May 01, 2014, 07:22:47 PM
Right now what is being done is not showing results,

Hold up Smiley Blackcoin is only a few weeks old. Don't judge it on the performance of the last week.

Coins don't grow upwards indefinitely at 45 degree angle on the price chart  Wink Bitcoin rose and collapsed and drifted many many times.

True long term growth takes time. We should be evaluating every couple of months imo. We've experienced amazing growth that blew us into the top 10 out of nowhere... we can't expect growth like that every week.

News, good or bad... you can't beat the market technicals for the short term. News will simply either temporarily exacerbate or stall the short term price movement, or even mid-range trend. But long term, this coin has the fundamentals to be very successful. With the way the long-term trend is starting to flatten out, I think you'd be silly to sell for less than 25K. BC will probably pop when least expected, and who knows where the new trading ranges might end up.

Just keep mining and holding. Smiley

I agree. $2 to $5 a coin is a good target for us based on the fundamentals... weekly fluctuations are irrelevant in the long run. I am holding onto my Blackcoins no matter if they double in price or fall 50% in price. Because I know one year from now I will be a very happy man.

Mine 'n' hold gentlemen.

Is anyone here a member of peercoin talk and also passionate about blackcoin?

Then please post in this topic by virtualfaqs: http://www.peercointalk.org/index.php?topic=2747.

Note - don't spam it! Just chip in if you have anything to add. I think we have a connection with Peercoin that isn't being exploited as we are running in pure proof of stake mode, something they one day hope to transition to. Any problems we encounter and fix will benefit them. Also, people that invest in Peercoin are already sold on the idea of energy efficiency.

i did not watch on wallet code, but as a lot of members think it's ghostcoin copy past , so Min Stake 'd be 21 days.
now we have coin with pow period over on 7 days but with POS cannot starting before 21 days. what's that means? that's means blockchain will be not maintained between 7 and 21 days. dev team try to convince holders to put their hashpower for free (10 wc/block) to maintain the blockchain between 7 -21 days. but the dev cannot explain it clearly. if exchange sites'll blocks deposit/withdrawal for 14 days, the coin'll be dead! also how to maintain blockchain meanwhile the POS phase start (May 5). even, how to avoid 51% attack without a large hashpower during this period?! circulating a rumor that the blockchaine is stable and well secured? securised by 100 Mh/s?!!
Dev gains time until May 5, but what if the POS does not work right on May 5?!!
old dev realized the mistake he committed by fixing POW at 7 days while Min Stake is at 21 days! it is not expert in programming. he can do nothing he sold what he had and leave whitecoin bumping against the wall. many think it is saveable.

This is why you back a coin with a developer that knows wtf he is doing. Not a copy-paste dev with a pre-mine to make himself some pocket money.

As others have noted, some people are hesitant to bring their ideas to the table due to the often hostile nature of this topic.

Compare this with Dogecoin where almost any kind of initiative is cheered on!

I strongly encourage anyone who has ideas to share them but also to remember that the blackcoin subreddit /r/blackcoin is a much friendlier and supportive place to launch campaigns, projects, fund raisers and ideas. That said I still think this subforum is important for generating traffic. Each month a new wave of people join this forum, it's good for us to be consistently on page 1.

I want to point out that the march on Wallstreet is not officially sponsored or endorsed by Blackcoin Foundation. It is an idea by IconicExpert who is a community member on our forums. It is also currently being funded by the community.

You can check my tweet here.
https://twitter.com/BlackcoinG...

Please if you can change this information to reflect this.

Thanks,

This is the reason why 99% of all coins eventually fail. People who have never had any marketing and/or business experience are entrusted to maintain a multi-million dollar community project, and they do not have a clue what they are doing. It makes absolutely no sense to comment directly on the article that everyone will see:"the march on Wallstreet is not officially sponsored or endorsed by Blackcoin Foundation". We got a reputable news website to write about the event in less than 3 hours after announcing the event, and the "official" response from the development team is: "the march on Wallstreet is not officially sponsored or endorsed by Blackcoin Foundation".

Why even comment? This is not a popularity contest, nor is this a game for me. Millions of dollars are at risk and it seems some people here are just concerned about "maintaining control", or worse "popularity".

With all do respect to the dev team but your marketing efforts are not working.

1. You sponsored the Doge event and that had no effect or minimal media attention.
2. You announced the "Meet Black" promotion and that had no effect or media attention.
3. You released an investment package and that had no effect or media attention.
4. We will be added to Vault Of Satoshi, where is the official press release? Why haven't I read about it on CoinDesk?

CoinDesk will finally do a piece on BlackCoin and part of the reason CoinDesk is writing an article on BlackCoin is because of the BlackCoin cards. This is not my assumption, this was expressed by CoinDesk.
The only time Cointelegraph has written about BlackCoin is after the Cryptorush fiasco and now the Wall Street event.

My wife and I, and other active community members hold a hell of a lot of BlackCoins, more than the entire development team combined. So I have every right to propose positive projects that will help BlackCoin grow. So many people are tired and annoyed with this development team, and I am doing my best to keep morale up and convince people publicly and privately to keep supporting BC. So excuse my frustration when the development team makes an asinine public comment that effects the value of BlackCoin.

The only reason why I do not dump my coins and holding strong because I believe in the community, and I think this community will determine the success or failure of BlackCoin. It will not be me or the development team, it will be the community.

I want to make it very clear, it has always been the community.

1. The press release was a combined effort of the community, and it would not have happened if everyone didn't chip in.
2. BlackCoin would not have been added to CoinKite if the community didn't raise the money.
3. BlackCoin would not have been added to the Vault Of Satoshi if we all didn't email and Tweet the hell out of them.
4. Moolah would not have added BlackCoin to all of their services if we all didn't trade on their platform.
5. We would not have BlackCoin cards if some members didn't take a risk and have a little trust.

The Wall Street event and any other project will not succeed unless this community is behind it. BlackCoin is the community and it belongs to the community. It does not belong to one person or the development team. Because if every community member decided to move on, all BlackCoin would be is just a bunch of 1s & 0s. The community gives BlackCoin value.....

Have to agree, development team knows the technical stuff, but not marketing. You can have best product out there but not marketed right you'll lose. This stage of game it's 95% marketing, and I'm 100% like this idea. Why you guys officially are making statements as not being involved makes me really step back and wonder what your plans are? I think you guys are very good at what you do, but your not businessmen. We need someone like Iconic to promote for us, and quite honestly he's created lot of buzz. The pump was one thing, but least he's doing something here on his own time. I understand nobody will ever see eye to eye on all issues, but to make a public statement of not endorsing this, honestly pisses me off. You'd been better not saying anything if that's the case, then if it went bad you could then remove yourselfs as not being involved. But you already said your not, so now you create some people wondering what's the goal, why is community split on this.

I believe in this coin and community so far, but from now on I think if someone does something with marketing, best to not say anything than not support it vocally. I think you guys should reconsider. Besides, the multipool of other coins is getting more popular, yet we have not had any great writeup on all the news we have. Iconic is right, when news hits, it's a must to get it published, your losing free hype.

Well, I just hope foundation reconsiders not supporting this wall st marketing. Marketing is 95% of this, so consider than when your do stuff for this coin, 5% of your efforts will be noticed, and 95% of them nobody will ever notice unless you market this coin.

Eloquently put. I agree wholeheartedly.
