16722  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: how do you earn trust points? on: January 20, 2014, 05:00:08 PM
You also must check the person that give the trust feedback because there are many case he make many acc and then sent positive feedback to each acc

Yeah, those are called sock puppet accounts. And check for evidence of trades and transaction histories etc. And just because somebody has positive feedback for selling $5 worth of Doges or trading 0.005BTC successfully doesn't mean they won't scam you out of your money no matter how little it is.
16723  Other / Meta / Re: End of newbie restrictions; ban changes on: January 20, 2014, 04:41:19 PM
Unfortunate that I've been demoted because of this change, but I'm not far away from 60 activity anyway, so it's not so bad.

If it reduces spam and scams, I'm in favour.

I'm not sure it will reduce those, but just spread it all over. It'll obviously put a stop to all the why cant I post and crappy hi threads, but everything else will just be posted elsewhere.

Well, if the IPs of known scammers is blocked, it's going to make it harder for scammers to be able to spit out new accounts. Making them jump through hoops is a good thing. If they also have to pay using a non-anonymous payment service, even better.

Most scammers wont use their own IPs and will either use TOR or proxies, but I'm more concerned about spam and useless posts everywhere as scammers will always scam regardless of restrictions.

16725  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Using Bitcoin in Burger King... on: January 20, 2014, 04:31:45 PM

Do they let you walk out of the store after you've used your credit card? You could go home ring your bank and cancel the transaction.

Once you send the Bitcoin the money is as good as received so you don't need to wait for the full confirmations. Retail businesses will use payment processors that will insure against double spending etc anyway so it's a moot point.

Sure, because when I use a credit card they have a fair degree of assurance that they know who I am, so they can come after me if I defraud them.

Do they? You could be any fraudster with that card. You could also claim that you never made the transaction. Cards are not foolproof or flawless just like BTC.
16726  Other / Off-topic / Re: How much for this PC? on: January 20, 2014, 04:26:57 PM
I want to sell my desktop for a decent laptop. How much would you pay for this?

You want to sell it for coin on here, or you're just asking to see how much it's worth?
16727  Other / Off-topic / Re: Quick poll: heuristic for how long until a coin is considered "abandoned" on: January 20, 2014, 04:25:43 PM

In how many years of account inactivity ("unspent transaction output," in the case of Bitcoin) do you think it is OK to wipe out someone's money?

- 1 year?
- 5 years?
- 10 years?
- 20 years?
- 50 years?
- 100 years?
- 200 years?
- 500 years?
- "IT IS NEVER OK!"
- Other?

As a reference, in some countries in the "real world," if you don't make a transaction on your checking account for 3 years, your money can be taken away (in Australia it was 7 years and they reduced it to 3).

It's for a Bitcoin fork that I'm developing where there's not a hard limit on coins. The block reward is to be the primary source of coins (1:1 on hashrate, forever) and the main sink is an ~1% depreciation on every coin per month, plus I'm think about adding an "abandoned coin" heuristic to be able to wipe out outputs that go too long unspent, hence this poll.

Thanks!
Obey

What do you mean by "wipe out someone's money"?.

And who takes the money after three years of inactivity? The government? So you leave money in a bank account for three years and then they can legally take it? I'm sure it can't be as simple as that.

16729  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: The Bitcoin Prepaid Credit Card on: January 20, 2014, 04:06:00 PM

I've been watching and subscribed to these guys for a while, and I finally ordered one of these cards a couple weeks ago. It hasn't arrived in the mail yet. I contacted them and got an immediate response that they had processed the order and the card should be on the way. Has anyone else signed up and gotten one of these and what is your opinion of it?

Basically it is a prepaid credit card that is reloadable, and it can be loaded either with regular money or with bitcoin. You use it like a credit card anywhere where Master Card is accepted. Seems like a more direct way to spend bitcoin for regular purchases.

http://thebitcoincard.co.uk

Forgive me if this is already on another thread on the forum, I looked but haven't found anything.

It's a debit card then, not credit. And I can't confirm it, but I wouldn't be surprised if this is a scam.

Credit cards will stay for sometime. They wont go anywhere soon.

Credit and credit cards will always exist, unless somebody starts giving out Bitcoin credit.
16732  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Why do people think income tax is ok? on: January 20, 2014, 03:59:13 PM

They don't have taxes here :-http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jungle.

You could try that I suppose.

Yes, we agree that having no wealth is a good way to protect yourself from wealth confiscation. Just like being dead protects you from murder.

Most people won't have any wealth anyway when they're expected to pay for everything like roads, police, hospitals, schooling and their garbage being collected so it won't matter, so you might as well be living in a jungle because that's what it'll turn into.

Yes, and my feedback is trusted.

What do you mean it's trusted? You're need to be on the Trusted list for that.

Click Stunna->Trust->Trusted feedback and see my name.

You are in the trusted feedback only because you are expected to trust yourself, that's why. On everyone else's view of Stunna's trust you are in the untrusted section (since we are not yourself and you have done nothing to be trusted as a third party)...

Yeah, his profile feedback will only show up red to you. To pretty much everybody else it's green Trust: 4: -0 / +7(7).
16735  Economy / Games and rounds / Re: MakeBTC.org Pyramid Scheme on: January 20, 2014, 03:48:58 PM
That's my first message to the forum, and it can be a quite insecure information for many people. But I would like to share the information I recently obtain about MakeBTC.org

About a week ago I registered to this site, with a very low confidence. So that I just load 0.05 BTC to the system. 2-3 days ago I add 0.053 BTC again since I saw people started to withrewing money, and logs are open to public. And today i made a withdrew, to try if it's work or not. And few minutes ago, I confirm that I take 0.032 BTC payment from the site to the Blockchain.

So you've put in 0.103BTC and gotten out 0.032BTC?

this is a scam it says i have recieved payout but i have not Sad

Most of these pyramid schemes are outright scams. They sucker in greedy fools stupid enough to send them money.

The withdraw function seems to be working fine.  I didn't get in the system early (joined on the 17th), but I've already gotten back .32BTC and raised my level a bit.  It's not the flashiest thing in the world, but it's fun to keep up with it.

How much did you put in?

I put in a total of 1.5 BTC and have withdrawn 0.52 BTC so far (3 days).  This is a pure pyramid scheme, but it advertises it self as that.  You choose a percentage of your "award" for each level to withdraw and the rest is reinvested to raise your level of investment.  It's up 13 levels so far, if it goes up another 4 levels I'll be "even" and everything from that point on is profit.  The only real question is how long the site owner will keep everything running.  It's only been open ~ 3 weeks, so if it stays up for 6 months it will generate a lot of profit for a lot of people.  Of course some people will get screwed... but that's why this is posted in the gambling forum!

What if it's impossible to get to the top or the next 4 levels and you just keep getting fed along and never recoup your money? Usually these aren’t actually schemes to make money but scams to lose it. Pretty much everybody loses out except the creator.

Is there something wrong with this thread hilariousandco? This is the alternative crypto thread is it not? If you don't want to be bothered with a legitimate question about Doge's then why even take the time to post in here?

cuz we see these crap nothing saying doge shit topics about 10000000000000000000000 times a day  Angry Angry

This. And there's plenty of Doge threads for this to go in already.
16737  Other / Meta / Re: position downgraded? on: January 20, 2014, 02:55:31 PM
please can someone explain why my position has been recently downgraded from Member to Junior Member?  Cry I was actually hoping to get upgraded to Full Member soon... Cheers

As you are unable to search the Board you are posting is if there is already a topic about your problem on the front page, Junior Member seems fitting. Maybe even Newbie.

16738  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Doge to the moon...? on: January 20, 2014, 02:52:21 PM
Everyone was saying Doge was dead but in the last week it's gone from .0002 all the way to .00134 on Cryptsy this morning. I'm sure some will say it's another pump and dump, and others will say this coin is on its way to .01. Guess we'll have to wait and see...

If it's not dead it won't be alive for long. And I guess now the Newbie forum has gone this section is gonna get all these threads now.
16739  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: We have Subforums! on: January 20, 2014, 02:50:09 PM
Too little. If Bitcointalk wants to be the leader of cryptocurrency forums, it needs to do more for the Alts.

We don't.

Ah, the "yo dawg" phenomenon, a forum within a forum. It funny to see the different forum culture/etiquette between bitcointalk and the altcoin section. Where btctalk is friendly and offers (mature)discussions and debates, the altcoin section is complete opposite. Every new coin is like a religion with fundamentalist followers. Don't you dare ask questions or offer constructive criticism, you trolling hater you. Noobs joining and acting like it's their house. It would be good fun if newbie jail lasted for a week and not four hours Grin

What do you expect from idiots who get involved with coins called Dogecoin, Coinyecoin or Fuckcoin solely because of their name, and continually spout their unfunny, unoriginal meme catchphrases constantly.

A mix of the worst from reddit and 4chan. To bad it's the crowd who turn me off and not the coins.

4channers are usually pretty funny and come up with original material or create the memes in the first place, but I haven't been on there in a while. Better shit to do.

Yes up to now, I've put 0.103 BTC and take back 0.032 BTC. But that withdraw was just testing for the system for me. Cos I think it's not the best idea to pull money back for now, while it's growing. If I want to take money again, tonight, with the next level up, I could take 0.041 BTC again. But I'll keep them to raise my level.

So you can withdraw at any time or do they choose or have scheduled payouts?
