Bitcoin still behaves like money.

In what way would you prefer it to behave?

I'd like to see an algorithim built in to smooth out the network. The problem with money right now is that it collects into the haves and have-nots because all networks naturally form this pattern.
Thus money, because it is a network always takes on a mind of it's own unless we design against this unintended property.

Can't tell if serious....

http://blog.dwolla.com/on-december-15th-dwolla-will-change-as-we-know-it/

Does anyone know or have heard rumors about what Dwolla will announce?

I read an interview with the dwolla CEO where he was talking a lot about killing off credit card companies.  He never mentioned bitcoin once, but said they're pursuing an aggressive growth opportunity that will change traditional bank transactions.

That sounds like code talk for Bitcoin to me.

:O

This plus mtgox's new features (although I doubt they'll get those implemented smoothly) and Max Keiser's push means bright prospects in 2012!

You're right that buying bitcoins is damn hard. This is because:
> Traditional banking institutions and Paypal see Bitcoin as a threat.  Combine this with Paypal being Paypal and it means you can't fund mtgox accounts through Paypal.
> Let me repeat, Paypal is evil.
> Mtgox is notoriously incompetent at getting any work done to improve its services.
> Mtgox is running into legal problems in Europe.
> Banks are too damn slow.
> Chargebacks and scams are frequent with Paypal.

Sadly, the community as a whole is powerless to stop any of this shit.  We can only hope the funding process gets better and faster in the future.

I would take a primitive monarchy over what we have today any time.

At least primitive monarchies are honest about stealing from you, eh?

Both are the undisputed founders of the modern state of Israel and prime ministers...

I'll definitely look into them but considering the massive genocide, violence and exile it took to establish Israel, I can't help but find myself perplexed. I remain open to other virtues though.

Which genocide? The 6 million Jews that were killed in the Holocaust?
Which Exile? The millions of Jews living in Muslim countries Syria, Lebanon, Iraq, Iran, Jordan, Morocco and others before 1948 which were kicked out without notice and any of their money? My family lived in Syria for hundreds of years and then one day "get the fuck out!"

The previous wrongs are irrelevant. Those generations are gone. The Palestinians who occupied Israel at the time of their exile did not commit the atrocities that were committed by their forefathers. If the Jews want to set an example of love and forgiveness, they would not hold a grudge against an innocent generation of people. The lives that were lost had committed no crime to deserve their fate.

Do not force sentient individuals into a collective that can't think, feel nor much less be considered an organism. Innocent individuals were lost in the name of mere whims whether you considered them a part of a people that has hurt you or not.

It's a travesty that individual, innocent and important sentient beings can be lost only due to mere generational conflicts.

+1... tribal (or essentially tribal) allegiance is the downfall of diplomacy, all around the world.

2627  Economy / Speculation / Re: Fuji Chart on: December 09, 2011, 08:52:51 PM
Most Japanese people I know would say "Fuji san" (富士山) instead of "Fuji no yama",

I first thought that was Fuji Yo Mama

Someone needs to make a haiku out of this xD
2628  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: Dwolla Will Change As We Know It, December 15th, 2011 on: December 09, 2011, 08:51:57 PM
I'm going to laugh if it is just a new interface design.

Heh, mtgox was a disappointment. I hope these exchanges create something more useful someday.

mtgox is always a disappointment Smiley

Don't worry, someone will eventually do something. Even mtgox says they're releasing something in January...
2629  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Libertarians(Re: Bitcoin in Honduras' new charter cities) on: December 09, 2011, 08:06:40 PM
There are little to no conservatives on this forum. Non-sequitur.

I am willing to agree most people with typical conservative views are very primal, territorial and xenophobic people.
Those idiotic studies are the height of arrogance... I'm surprised you are bringing those up.

 Grin

I don't see anything there, sir! Smiley
In case you're wondering, I'm not a rightie at all.  I just hate it when people think that they're superior to others based on brain differences or shit like that.  Most conservatives happen to be born into bible-thumping, conservative families that indoctrinate them, but that doesn't give you the right to call yourself superior.

Anyways, this thread has now devolved into an ad-hominem flame war.  I'm outta here.

2630  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: OPERATION: What is Bitcoin? - A Massive Bitcoin Twitter Campaign on: December 09, 2011, 08:02:25 PM
While Atlas has failed in many endeavors, making an ad campaign on feedzebirds cannot possibly fail, and might even have an effect.  He actually went and did something, and nobody should point and laugh at him for doing so.

I've failed? Interesting. I don't recall ever costing anybody anything nor significantly sacrificing on my part.

Sure, I didn't complete what I had intended in many cases; I do that daily. I never consider it failure. I consider it life. Failure to me is true loss and that has yet to be seen.

Well, the problem is that you never follow through on any projects you propose.  I see that as failure when you do it more than 10 times and just sit on your ass the whole time.

Thanks for actually doing something this time, though Smiley

I do follow through on some projects. I may do it half-way most of time but I still gain knowledge and experience. I hate to make excuses but I live a pretty painful life. My depression and anxiety don't treat me too kindly. I am proud of the efforts I sustain regardless of the milestones they reach.

What use is knowledge and experience if, in your parlance, they aren't put to use by creating value for people?
I'm all for learning from mistakes, but when you've tried 10 times and succeeded 0 times, that's a problem.
2631  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Libertarians(Re: Bitcoin in Honduras' new charter cities) on: December 09, 2011, 08:00:25 PM
I think that's a record for me, I am now a delusional right wing libertarian idiot, all from one post - I think I'll put that as my sig.  Can someone be a right wing libertarian?  Isn't that like a socialist capitalist? What do I know anyway, I'm a delusional idiot who uses bitcoins and thinks war has a lot to do with governments.

In the USA, the largest group of Libertarians are led by Ron Paul who is a Republican Presidential Candidate. They may not be as right wing as Newt Gingrich, but his son Rand Paul is a complete wing nut on the far right.

There's a leading theory that vaccines are a major cause of libertarianism in the U.S., although I think this may be a bit of a stretch based on the fact that Ron and Rand Paul both are affected by Asperger's syndrome.

Thanks goodness for a state like Kentucky, backward enough that even a mildly retarded con man can still become a U.S. Senator there. Rand also distinguished by having himself certified as a laser eye surgeon by a state professional organization that he founded solely for this purpose. His inability to see any problem with this strategem is a striking example of the quirky thinking often seen in Asperger's.

Actually there is conclusive physical evidence of brain differences between self-described Liberals and Conservatives. There have been dozens of studies of such brain scans.

Those idiotic studies are the height of arrogance... I'm surprised you are bringing those up.

Hmm, PonziCoin..

No..

A while ago, Bitcoinduit was going to sponsor a PonziCoin, but then we decided that we were too lazy.

If anyone's making one, I'll be hashing for you!

2636  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Proof of author rights with time from blockchain on: December 09, 2011, 03:17:18 AM

Sometimes a summary can help. I stopped reading at the Python interpreter written in JavaScript that took gedit about 60 seconds 4 minutes of CPU time to prettify. (Edit: the module 'msg' starts at line 22588) Edit2: It appears to use the MD5 hash function which is no longer considered cryptographically secure.

If you mean encoding short, human readable messages in the block-chain; I don't think that is what the OP was referring to. You can be a lot more subtle while proving you have access to a certain text with the block-chain. Simply take the SHA-2 hash, convert it into a public/private address pair, send a token amount to that address, then (optionally) spend the coins back to yourself.

That's so horrible... I opened that site and it made my computer sound like a jet engine.
2637  Economy / Speculation / Re: Any thoughts about future direction ? on: December 09, 2011, 01:04:02 AM
going to 2.6

then to 2.9

then above 3, stall out early in the week

big sell off back to 2.8

upswing to 3.5

Hi everyone, I want to point out that Jon got the first three perfectly correct.  He called the 2.6 bottom EXACTLY, then a 2.9 spike EXACTLY, then the stall out at $3 EXACTLY :O

We are now in the "upswing to 3.5" stage.  Brace yourselves. (wtf Jon is a psychic)
2638  Economy / Services / Re: Anyone interested in a 30 day, 13,000 MH/s mining contract? on: December 08, 2011, 08:07:30 PM
For everyone's information, you'll earn an average of about 4.44 BTC if you buy this and the difficulty stays the same.
Given the projected difficulty increase, I personally wouldn't buy this, but I can see why someone would.

chungenhung: I suggest you divulge your system for free to a highly trusted member of this forum (>2000 posts or high wot rating), who will promise not to release the secret, for him to judge its value.  Then once he confirms that this "system" is not total bullshit (which I doubt), people will flock to buy it.
