2861  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread 2021/2022 on: August 15, 2021, 10:18:37 AM
I've got West Ham to win, and Manchester City to win while keeping a clean sheet today. It's a part of a bigger accumulator which includes some games from yesterday, and some games from next weekend. I've already won three games on the accumulator including a correct score of Swansea VS Sheffield Utd. Current cash out is 700.

I'm not entirely confident on today's games. My rationale for going with Manchester City without conceding is; based on the fact that Tottenham currently don't have Kane, and that's a big loss to them. So, I think with the strength of Manchester City, and the currently weakened Tottenham, it might actually hit.

West Ham VS Newcastle is a different story. I'm worried about that game a little bit more. Newcastle as of recent usually gets the better of West Ham, and that's including last season when West Ham performed above expectations.
2862  Other / Off-topic / Re: Is it possible for a football club to move from one football league to another on: August 15, 2021, 10:12:26 AM
Theoretically, it would only need to be authorised by the governing bodies, but in all likelihood probably not. Having said that, there are clubs currently playing in the wrong leagues, and in the future they might change that up. For example, when a lot of the most popular Welsh teams were established, a Welsh league didn't exist, and therefore they were put in the English league system, as that was their only choice. Hence why you have Swansea, Cardiff, Newport, Wrexham, and Merthyr playing in the English pyramid despite there now being a Welsh League.

Now, I don't think its entirely out of the question, that in the future there might be a change in that. Although, to expand on this; it is possible for teams to switch leagues. Leagues can disband, and not only teams.

Although, I think its much more likely that a team, and league in the same geographical area would be more likely to switch. I don't think there's much chance of Real Madrid swapping, and is likely just tabloids talking crap as per usual.
2863  Other / Meta / Re: Bitcointalk Youtube channel - what would you like to see? on: August 15, 2021, 09:59:44 AM
I sometimes watch this guy on Youtube. He has 8 million subscribers, talks with enthusiasm, and never shows his face. If he has to show his head, he wears a helmet. It's more of an image thing than a privacy thing though: he shows his house and family members on his channel.
My point is: when done in the right way, I don't find it annoying as a viewer, and it even took me a while to realize he hides his face on purpose. I actually prefer it over Youtube tutorials where the guy is just showing his own head for the first 5 minutes.
I think I've watched some of those videos myself, but never really clocked the guy was intentionally hiding his face. More focused on the content. Some people build it into their brand, there's plenty of examples. Plus, I will stand by my statement of it adding to the intrigue. For example, one of the most interesting artists in the UK, is called Banksy. I don't think his artwork is overly impressive, like its good, but I feel like it's the fact that he's anonymous, that the public are so interested, plus he tends to do his artwork on public locations, rather than traditional canvas'.

There's plenty of examples on Youtube, I know there's plenty of gamers that build the fact that they are anonymous into their brand. I mean if you think about it, if you've ever watched Top Gear, what was the allure of the Stig? It was the fact that no one could really confirm who it was at first, and that created an allure. If they had Ben Collins just show up on screen, and race a car around the track no one would be overly impressed. The fact that his identity was a mystery, and there was room for speculation is what caused his popularity. Top Gear played that well.

Point is, I'm totally fine (and I would completely understand) if the interviews would only be in a podcast format - I think the interviewer would be more comfortable while also providing us with a good opportunity to learn more about who's behind this community. It's a win-win scenario for both sides from my point of view.
Hell yeah! Sadly I'm not able to contribute in that way to the channel due to my deeply lack of "creator" graphical skills, but if there's any need of human help in the future regarding this project please let me know as for sure I would like to help in way possible. Looking forward to see what comes out of it!
Yeah, I would say that any video would complement it. You're basically covering all basis then, since certain users won't want to just listen to the podcast, and won't watch unless there's a video. At least if you provide both, your hitting all target audiences.

However, plenty of podcasts actually do animation work along with their podcast, and while that probably isn't suited here, you can see its not always about filming the people talking, but just having something to complement the sound. Although, I think even if guests wanted to keep their anonymity then that would work fine.

That said, I think its best that the Youtube channel focuses on other content before approaching the podcast idea. There's a lot of logistics in setting up a podcast, and this is especially true if you want physical podcasts. If you want to do it remotely, then there's issues with quality assurance, because not everyone will have a perfect setting for a podcast. Loud house, kids, pets, bad mic, and generally bad acoustics.

38th. I started as I tend to go on, setting standards early. Also, can I just mention how much I dislike Burnley, and Brighton right now. I had it down for a 0-0 draw right, and Liverpool won 3-0 like I predicted. Burnely, and Brighton cost me 247k. I'm not not sure how they're going to make it up to me. That's probably the closest I've ever come to big money with my insanely stupidly long accumulators.

Yeah Liverpools defence is looking really good currently. I dont like the midfield much, the attack is still the same. Salah again is brilliant at start of the season that is promising for Liverpool. Van Dijk is so much better on the defence then Fabinho who played the entire last season on his spot and that isnt his position at all
Midfield is still very good. Yesterday, that wasn't our strongest midfield. We still have Henderson, and Thiago to slot in. Fabinho only came on in the second half. I'd say its still one of the strongest in the league.
2865  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Sportsbet.io's English Premier League Football Pool Discussion Thread on: August 14, 2021, 02:46:05 PM
It’s really crazy seeing Arsenal decline over the years.  A lot of people thought that it was Wenger who held the club back, me included.  Lol.  But the truth was it was Wenger who made the squad overperform and finish top 4 almost every year.  Wenger in!  Lmao.  But yeah the problem was already there since Wenger.

Anyway Brentford also played with a bit more intensity and had won the 50/50’s a tad more.  So credit to them.

It's brilliant if you ask me. Wenger was a brilliant manager, and while I know the narrative really turned on him in his last few seasons, but he's one of the best managers to ever manage in the Premier League era, and I'll stand by that word. His transfer shenanigans might have been quite funny at times, but it generally worked out for him securing that fourth. I believe it was a meme that Arsenal would literally always finish fourth. I bet Arsenal fans would pay good money to finish fourth these days.

Also, Burnley screwed me over one minute into their game. I predicted a 0-0 draw, and I had Liverpool at 3-0 later in the day for a return of 247k. I had a few matches from the Euros which I had already won on the accumulator. Although,  I don't mind that they screwed me due to not actually expecting it to come through, but I was looking forward to having that intense feeling watching that game whenever you've got big money riding on it, and they ended that within a minute. Bastards. I was proper hoping that the push on Brighton's player was going to overrule the goal, I may or may have not called the ref a few things Cheesy.

I do have another accumulator running, but Everton are screwing me on that at the moment. To be fair, it's my fault for actually thinking they'd do well Cheesy.

My wild prediction that Brighton, Crystal Palaca and Burnely will drop.
Burnley, and Sean Dyche have mastered beating the drop. So, I think they'll survive. I think Crystal Palace are due to go down, and I agree with Brighton.

@Welsh what's your take on Daniel James, I keep waiting for him to explode but feel like every season passing he's not going anywhere. Harsh?
I've had high hopes for him for a number of years, however it does seem like his career is starting to stagnate a little bit. I didn't want him to move to a Premier League team so soon, I feel like he needed a lot more game time than Manchester United of all teams could provide. I feel like an extra season in the Championship, and then moving to a lower/mid team in the Premier League would have been better for his development.

Even when playing for Wales, he has shown some fantastic ability, and shown that there's quite clearly potential in him, but he has probably still been a little disappointing. From a Wales national point of view, it was incredibly exciting when he first came onto the scene, because of course we all want to eventually replace Gareth Bale, and he's been the closest we've had. However, I think most Welsh fans will likely agree, that was wishful thinking from us.

I honestly think the best move for him, is out of Manchester United to a team where he will get more game time, but also where he isn't surrounded by quality players, and instead can steal the limelight. I think that's when you'll see him at his best. At the moment, he's stagnating, and with the wages, and the fee Manchester United would demand, I don't see him getting a move which is frustrating from a Welsh stand point of view.

I don't tend to watch many Manchester United games for obvious reasons, but I don't think its the right place to be for his development.

I did back Brentford, and I didn't even hedge them in this one. Picked 2-0, and they were in my parlay yesterday (I just ruined it by adding Monaco to it eff me). I know I said this season I'm going to learnt to not keep backing the underdog but this was only a 45/10 team, and yeah, remember Arsenal last season? Betting against them would win you a lot of money over the season and it looks like they're same old, same old.
Fair play, I knew it in my heart that Brentford would come out attacking, and beat Arsenal. However, I opted for the "safe" bet of Arsenal. I've watched quite a bit of Championship games with Swansea, and Cardiff playing there, and I knew just how good Brentford are. I think I need to start taking a little more risks in my predictions.

We all know that whatever Elon tells has to be taken with quite a pinch of salt...
It makes sense though, at least from a moral point of view. I hate when the latest gadgets, and technologies go to scalpers, and they effectively rip off the public that are so desperate for it. Actually, while I hate the practice, I still blame the people willing to pay that amount I think.

You could argue he's just trying to give an excuse for delays in production, but I think its plausible to believe he's doing it for his reason given. It also looks great on Tesla, shows that they think about the customers which further increases sales.

if there are no cancellations ahead of me in line, I'm looking at an estimated delivery date in the Summer of 2023.  I can only hope that a lot of those early orders were just for fun and when it comes time to make payment we see a lot of cancellations, otherwise this may be a longer journey that I had originally anticipated.
There will be cancellations, a lot of them I would imagine. Three years is a long time to wait for a car, and you many people would have definitely put their reservation down just because rather than having any intention of buying the truck.

However, I don't think Francis is near being striped.
Definitely not, he's already fought this year. Its not a requirement that a fighter fights multiple times a year, unless its in their contract which I don't think it would be, since its hard to predict how much damage they take in their yearly matches. Francis usually fights 1-2 times a year, no more or less recently.

Dana also knows that there's hype behind Gane at the moment, and he might want to keep that going for as long as possible, and putting him against Francis even if you think he can win, is a significant risk compared to other people in the division that could be made. I actually think the Stipe Vs Gane would be the better match up, and more fun from a fans perspective.
2869  Other / Meta / Re: What do you think of the Bitcoin Discussion section? Does he need to change? on: August 13, 2021, 06:23:16 PM
Jokes aside, wouldn't a temporary mute feature work nicely? e.g. if a certain user has like 10 of his/her posts deleted in a day, he/she is muted and unable to post for like 24 hours or so. Haven't thought of this deeply, but yea.
Potentially, something like a shadow ban which is then reviewed by a staff user before their posts going public again could also work. I think at the very least it would be beneficial to have an intuitive way to see when a user has had several deleted posts recently. Maybe even including posts that they've deleted themselves.
2870  Other / Meta / Re: We need a new global moderator. on: August 13, 2021, 06:10:32 PM
Global moderators will now be aware of the issue where they can decide whether to take action, and to what extent.

Nope, they still exist.
Looks like we might have just found a bug. In the handled reports section, it most certainly points to a different thread, giving the illusion it was removed. However, it hasn't been, and I've just checked a few others, and the exact same thread number is given. Not sure if this is intentional, but some of them work as intended. Not exactly sure why its behaving like that.

I'm assuming its caused because the user themselves is deleting it rather than a moderator.

The sad story mostly after the Question is answerd you dont see them ever again , we have seen that in germany section lately.
I get this though, they treat the forum as a question, and answer site kind of like Stackexchange. I don't really have a problem with that, its unfortunate on a user retention view point, but I think its an acceptable practice.

Mostly the New Users and Newbies are just to lazy to use the search function on the Forum as mostly the questions are the same and repeating.
But yes you are right if Users dont know the Forum or things the best way is to just make a post or Topic and ask .
I wouldn't expect many new users to know how SMF functions, especially when the search function can be hit or miss. Plus, there's a few nusisances with the search function, while might make sense to a veteran user who is familiar with the forum, that a newbie might have a hard time wrapping their head around.

Plus, I don't expect newbies to actually care about cluttering a forum that they don't have a connection too. Obviously, it's polite, and considered good etiquette, but I wouldn't expect them to care.
2872  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread 2021/2022 on: August 13, 2021, 03:09:41 PM
Brentford will want to not lose points from this match. They will play today for the purpose of drawing the match. Winning such matches is not easy.
I don't think so, at least I hope that isn't their approach. They are actually a pretty good attacking team, and that surprise element, despite Arsenal probably being aware of it, will have an effect on Arsenal. Plus, its the first game of the season, a lot of teams will still be shaking off cobwebs, if Brentford come into this motivated, and attack it from the off, that's their best chances of securing points.
2873  Other / Meta / Re: We need a new global moderator. on: August 13, 2021, 03:03:17 PM
While the community could play their job, I believe mods do have to be proactive as well. Most of us don't hang out at the local boards so spams might be overlooked there.

About the badge thingy, it's an interesting addition ngl. Any way to check with theymos about its progress?

Absolutely, I don't think we should be relying on reports from the community, but it does significantly help the process, because multiple eyes is better than one. I do believe most moderators remove content they come across that hasn't been reported, and also report posts that they can't remove.

Last going off; theymos stated it was harder than initially thought to implement, and as a result went down on his to do list. I am paraphrasing a bit there, but I'll look for the quote soon. However, I would think theymos is aware of these discussions, and questions about the reporting badges, so I guess he'll update the community when its appropriate.

Here's the quote:
Sorry for the wait, when I went to implement this it ended up being quite a bit more of a can of worms than I originally thought because of opting out, preventing certain report-count-padding strategies, etc. It's still on my to-do list, but there are several things above it.
2874  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread 2021/2022 on: August 13, 2021, 02:23:51 PM
Now, it is time to talk about the Brentford - Arsenal game today. I think it is a quite decent game for the opening of the new season. Brentford are one of the new teams in the EPL now. Everybody is eyeing them about what they will do against Arsenal in this game. I'm also curious about their performance. Ivan Toney is their deadliest threat to their opponents. He is like a goal machine. The 25-year-old scored 31 goals and got 10 assists in 45 Championship games in the last season. I wonder if Arsenal will be able to defend him well.

My choice to bet on is: Both Teams to Score
I think this entirely depends on how Brentford setup. If they come out all guns blazing, I actually think they could catch Arsenal by surprise, however if they are a little gun shy from being in the Premier League (which I believe is their first time?) then I can see Arsenal comfortably winning the game. We saw it with Leeds last year though, championship teams when going hell for leather, can actually get some good results against some of the best teams in the league. Brentford have the players, they just need to execute it similar to Leeds.
2875  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Pareto principle and Bitcoin owners on: August 13, 2021, 02:17:21 PM
While Bitcoin might not be perfect in preventing whales from accumulating a vast majority of the Bitcoin in circulation, it at least tries to protect against it. Although, there's always going to be issues with any type of currency that I can think of with the rich accumulating the majority, unless your country adopts socialist values, which is unlikely at this point in time.

A way that this could be reduced is by giving some sort of benefit to keeping the coins moving through other's hands, but then that could potentially be abused if the gain is beneficial enough. Plus, the only motivating factor that could be applied is probably monetary gain, which would contradict the very purpose of it in the first place. There isn't any perfect solution, at least that I'm aware of.

The most important difference between ordinary people is that they have incomparably less purchasing power than the 10% at the top, which means that it is not a problem for them to buy all the BTCs on the market, only if they want to. I would love to see those who would refuse to sell for $100k or more per BTC.
Which is something that the model of distribution i.e block rewards is based on. It's trying to prevent those with mass amounts of money to invest, and those that are quicker than others to adopt the currency from owning the majority of the Bitcoin in circulation.
2876  Other / Meta / Re: We need a new global moderator. on: August 13, 2021, 02:00:32 PM
Do Mods act on external evidence? I've just reported 2 topics for bump spam, showing loyce.club link 1 and loyce.club link 2 as evidence. The user has no posts deleted by Mods, but bumps his topics about 6 times more than allowed.
What happens to such a report? If his latest bump gets deleted, he'll probably just continue. If he deleted his own post before a moderator sees my report, does that invalidate my report?
In regards to acting upon external evidence; It's a hard one to say really, context applies. Moderators obviously act upon external data, because we have to verify plagiarism via off site sources usually. However, other external data would probably have to be considered on a case by case basis since it could easily be manipulated.

However, as far as I know if the user deletes the post before a moderator actually handles it, it'll move to the handled reports, and a moderator likely won't see it. This is something I'd have to verify, and actually be on the look out. Moderators can look at recent handled reports, which means they could potentially verify if this has happened. For example, I just searched the recent reports, and have verified that the user was definitely reported twice, and either it was deleted by the user or another moderator. We can't verify without an admin, whether it was deleted by the user or another staff user.

If a user is abusing the bumping system, and bumping more than 24 hours it you mention that, I tend to put these lists on a little note, and just observe it in the future. If I can verify that then I can escalate it. Obviously, this sort of behaviour is more common in the marketplaces sections, but I do see these reports every now, and then due to them being newbies. Though, I'm not sure what the dedicated moderators or global moderators do in these cases. The user that you reported at least on the thread that it was reported, the thread seems to have been completely removed, so that was probably the punishment that the staff user handling it deemed appropriate.
2877  Other / Meta / Re: What do you think of the Bitcoin Discussion section? Does he need to change? on: August 13, 2021, 01:48:32 PM
Yes it is full of repetitive and spammy nonsense , but if you change this drastically , this repetitive and spammy nonsense will only appear in other sections. It’s worth trying to keep it contained to this section. My 2 sats anyway   Smiley
Nah, definitely not. If you see a spam post, and you don't mind reporting it, don't hesitate because you think it might start leaking elsewhere. It'll leak elsewhere anyway, and the more spam we remove the better for the community. Plus, you keep us mods busy; I've been getting fat because of the doughnuts I'm eating instead of handling reports.
2878  Other / Meta / Re: What do you think of the Bitcoin Discussion section? Does he need to change? on: August 13, 2021, 01:41:56 PM
I think mods/admins just need to be a bit more strict when deleting off low-quality posts; and also those posts that are obviously just rehashed versions of earlier replies(for some reason I get annoyed a bit too much when this happens to my posts).
They will get deleted if reported. Unfortunately, its quite clear to me that signature campaign participants are much likely to engage in this behaviour, which is something that should have more exposure, since the campaign manager has to review their replies to get them paid, and obviously there's the chance that they'll even report them to the moderators.

But I think reporting those posts won't get them removed right, as long as they abide by the rules?
They will, depending on the context. I'm not going to blanket statement it, and say they all will. It depends, but I've reported many especially in the Altcoin Discussion section, and they do get deleted. In fact, 100% of them have been deleted of the ones I've reported which was probably over 100 of them.

Rehashing another post isn't exactly abiding by the rules. It's spam. You don't need to keep saying the things that have already been said. Realistically, it should be a discussion, and therefore there should always be a contribution, otherwise your just talking in circles, which isn't exactly a good discussion.

Obviously, there's different angles users can take, and expand on things that have already been discussed, but if its not contributed to better the discussion, then it probably isn't abiding by the rules.

If you want to help with the efficiency of handling those reports; then just state they're rehashing another reply, and link to that reply if possible. It'll likely speed up the process of deleting it, otherwise the moderator has to read the entire thread, but if it can be streamlined from the community, even better.
2879  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: August 13, 2021, 01:38:21 PM
The advantage of Cyril against Ngannou is his stamina. Making the fight last at least 3rd round might slow Ngannou. First 2 rounds is going to be crucial for his win, if he couldn't duck the punches its him keeping the peace. Ngannou is too huge to stop and he's agile than Lewis.

I'd be more excited to watch Ngannou Vs Gane match too than Jones.

Easier said than done against a big hitter like Ngannou. I also think Ngannou has shown some decent improvements in his stamina.

Do we really think Jon Jones is coming back? I'm not convinced. He'll demand too much money to come back in, and fight, and he'll only want to fight the current champion. Which I don't think he deserves right now, his last few fights which were a long time ago now, weren't exactly convincing wins.

And yes Stipe Miocic VS Curtis Blaydes might be a great fight to have, and prove themselves that they still have it going.
Stipe will be fine. Although, Blaydes probably took a big hit on his confidence. That was a nasty KO, and I think everyone going into that fight was expecting him to easily win it. It makes  sense for both the fans, and Blaydes to organise a rematch against Lewis, once he himself has recovered from his recent defeat.

I don't give a fuck if the NSA is spying at me, if they are not doing something wrong with it, that's all. Anyway your government already have your bills and ID Card, your arguments against the government are full of bs. If they want to kill you, it will be fast. If they want to keep tracking you by watching in the e-commerce's databases they will find your new adress too.
They aren't trying to kill you, well in most cases anyway. What they are trying to do is actively manipulate you. For example, you ignoring that the NSA can gather information off of you, or these days any Tom, Dick or Harry can, isn't a problem as long as they don't do anything bad is ludicrous. Do you not consider being manipulated into buying products as bad? Just because you've shown some interest in it in the past, or visited a related site. We on in a world full of advertisements these days, and they will actively try to manipulate you into buying their products, and they use your previous data, and site history to determine how best to make money from you. How is that not bad?

There's also the element that most exchanges as mentioned above have been hacked. That means, your trusting someone to hold your personal documents, and if they are ever compromised you are relying on them to hold them securely. However, history has taught us that even security firms have made massive security mistakes in the past, and continue to do so. So, how can we expect an exchange to follow all the protocols? You can't, because you can't trust them to do that. It's not just the government, hackers are usually someone that's looking to profit of the information that they gather, so if they have gathered your information, you might actually be in a precarious situation, you could potentially become a target to scams or even physical threat. This is why, and this should be evident to anyone that uses Bitcoin, you shouldn't rely on third parties when it comes to personal finances, and data. It just doesn't make a whole lot of sense for the majority of people. There are some cases which you could argue KYC is beneficial or a third party managing your funds, but those that few, and far between.

You wouldn't be willing to give me, a random stranger your data so why do you expect the government any other third party that has a registration attached to their business to be more trustworthy? They are literally the ones which have clear incentives to use your data to either get more money from you or influence your decisions in life. Where as, I'm just another Bitcoin user that cares about privacy. I absolutely hate the authority syndrome that most people seem to have, but when it comes to privacy, and the fact that its quite well documented these days; probably better than ever people are still oblivious to it.
