2901  Other / Meta / Re: [TOP-200] The most generous users giving merits on: August 11, 2021, 07:47:18 PM
In July 2021 total sent 26411 merits (in 13235 txns to 2037 users):
  • 3% to Newbies: 810 merits (to 517 users)
  • 4% to Jr. Members: 1068 merits (to 296 users)
  • 9% to Members: 2479 merits (to 306 users)
  • 8% to Full Members: 2010 merits (to 216 users)
  • 11% to Sr. Members: 2808 merits (to 246 users)
  • 15% to Hero Members: 4044 merits (to 246 users)
  • 50% to Legendaries: 13192 merits (to 423 users)
Although, I'm not one for taking into consideration the rank of the user I'm meriting or at least I try to be conscious about being non bias. I would like to see the distribution a little better than this personally. 50% of the merit circulation going to legendaries makes sense, however I do believe that might be because there's some bias creeping in. I feel like some users are less willing to reward newbies with high amounts, because there's not enough data available to determine whether they would be a contributing user in the long term.

This is probably backed up by the fact that 517 newbies received merit, and only 423 legendaries received merit, however the amount of merits was significantly larger when being sent to legendary accounts. I think it could be argued that generally, legendaries are more likely to be posting better content, but without going through each post, that would likely be hard to accurately predict.

2902  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How can you combat market gloom? on: August 11, 2021, 07:43:20 PM
When your invested in a technology or movement that isn't the norm, i.e anything that is trying to replace a existing system or at the very least co-exist. You're going to find that it'll be attacked left, right, and center by various media, and organisations that are against it from becoming a thing. Bitcoin is receiving that exact treatment, it doesn't matter if Bitcoin is currently going through a bear or bullish phase, the response will likely be the same. While Bitcoin is doing well in terms of the current price converted into fiat currencies, the media will call it a bubble, and when it is down, and looking pretty gloomy for a would be investor; the media will say the bubble has burst. We go through this cycle every time there's a dramatic difference in the recent price, and we will continue to do so for the foreseeable future.

These organisations which will show the most resistance will be governments, banks, and anything which find its importance taken away by the decentralised approach of Bitcoin. Their attacks will vary, but sooner or later they either need to embrace it, or outright fight it.
2903  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Can China takeover Bitcoin network? on: August 11, 2021, 07:38:19 PM
I liked the way you created an entire conspiracy with the Chinese government at the forefront  Cheesy. We can speculate that the Chinese government stacked away 100,000 of Bitcoin but what is the point in doing so when they are restricting users for years and there will be an uprising if there is something like this and since you concluded that they are smart, they will not do anything that could create a revolution against the government  Cheesy.

The points you said about Elon, i do accept them because he is smart enough to manipulate the market and he is doing that for years without any repercussions.
Theoretically, a very rich entity could potentially try to centralise Bitcoin via purchasing a large amount of it, and holding it. However, it would probably be far more beneficial for them to buy out existing exchanges, and limit the amount of people that can buy Bitcoin in the first place. Although, a slightly unrelated note, China aren't that cautious against safeguarding against the possibility of a revolution, they censor their citizens already, and limited them in various ways. Also, do remember that China throughout history going all the way back to the Ming/Han days have always imploded due to internal stability rather than outside factors.
2904  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Increasing acceptance level - Cryptocurrency on: August 11, 2021, 07:34:59 PM
No, that is not what they observe these days mostly. Imagine you find out about Bitcoin today and there is a restaurant accepting Bitcoin, have fun trying to pay for your 10 USD pepperoni pizza with Bitcoin... Cheesy 20 USD in fees, 10 USD the Pizza, 2 USD the tip, seems to me like a pretty expensive pizza that you also had to wait for 30 minutes because the one block confirmation took a little bit longer.
The idea is; Bitcoin won't always have expensive fees to pay for small transactions. Technology like Lightening, and Segwit try to tackle this problem, and there will likely be more, and more improvements in the future. Currently, I would probably agree that Bitcoin isn't suited for micro transactions, such as every day transactions, however that doesn't mean it'll always be the case. I also imagine that restaurants won't require block confirmations, because the likelihood of a double spend is relatively low, and there's probably just as much risk as someone paying with a fake bill (sometimes even without knowing themselves).
2905  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why should you own at least one Bitcoin? on: August 11, 2021, 07:31:29 PM
the current bitcoin price is expensive, need big capital to get bitcoin, i am very sorry in 2019 i was negligent so i didn't have time to buy bitcoin in 2019 the bitcoin price was very at least in 2019 i bought 1 bitcoin and now i have made a profit but this is experience for me i will not repeat the same mistake in future.
Nah, not really. You don't have to go, and buy 1 Bitcoin, the point of this discussion is highlighting the fact that you can buy whatever amount you can afford, and with the prospect of Bitcoin increasing in value exponentially in the future, you'll benefit regardless. You don't need big capital at all to purchase Bitcoin, basically the bigger capital you have the more potential of earning, although the same goes for the opposite theory, the bigger the capital the more you could lose.
2906  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Football Transfers Speculation, Odds and Predictions on: August 11, 2021, 07:28:49 PM
About PSG
You do have a luxury problem now with this selection. I think this might be the best squad a club has ever had. The unapproachable Barcelona of 10 years ago would not be able to cope with that either. If you play with all 4 strikers, that is a feast for the eyes. And a problem for the trainer. Midfield and defense ditto.
In the league there isn't all that much competition, really the only time the back players would be exposed would be in the Champions League if they play with all four, although I think they would probably take a more balanced approach in the Champions League. However, in the league I think I would expect most of them to play week in, week out. I'd also predict that there's going to be a record breaking amount of goals scored in the French league.
2907  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: August 11, 2021, 05:10:57 PM
It's showing the same for me, Stipe Miocic and Derrick Lewis both dropped by one position and Curtis Blaydes is below them with Alexander Volkov.
Fight between Ngannou and Gane is making most sense for me and this will probably bring most money to UFC with pay per view, unless some miracle happens and we have Jon Jones back fighting in octagon.

Yeah it probably is the fight to make. I've had it in my head that Gane needs a few more fights before taking on Ngannou, but looking at the rankings now he's already been up against most of them. It's particularly surprising because he only has around 10 fights so it feels like he hasn't been around all that long.

I'll be honest, I've probably been sleeping on Gane, and been a unfair critic. I've finally stood up, and noticed now he's ranked as the number one contender Tongue.
2908  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread 2021/2022 on: August 11, 2021, 05:08:48 PM
If Kane eventually leave for Manchester City, Tottenham will need a vigorous player to replace him. According to Report, Tottenham is willing to pay £60m for Lautaro Martinez. He have been in Inter since 2018, and scored 17 goals in Inter last season, and also contributed to the success of the club last season. I will really like to see him play in the Premier League, but it seems Inter won't sign him out. They sold Lukaku to Chelsea, and won't want to lose another talented player.
I think Martinez is perfect for the Premier League like I said previously, I would love to see him at Liverpool. However, that isn't looking likely with the current climate. I think he is relatively unknown, due to him being overshadowed by the fame of Lukaku, and not actually stepping into one of the bigger more competitive leagues, which I think is the logical step for his career. Tottenham would obviously lose a brilliant player, but if they get Martinez then it doesn't look to bleak for them.
2909  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: August 10, 2021, 08:22:13 PM
According to the UFC rankings I'm seeing Ciryl Gane as the number 1 contender for the belt, with Ngannou obviously being the champion. Stipe in second, and Derrick Lewis in third. Tapology also has it as the same rankings, so I'm assuming they are accurate. Maybe, they were not updated when you guys took a look?
2910  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: August 10, 2021, 10:50:31 AM
T.J is to have surgery on his knee? I know he was caught in the leg quite early on, was it the first or second round, but that's the first I'm hearing about the surgery? He seemed like he was hurt, however he put on a good poker face, and powered through it. It would be a shame if he's out for a while now, I know he has a lot to prove still, I mean with all the drug issues, and the fact that he hasn't really got a lot of fans on his side even after that win.

Yeah, Stipe should be the guy to get through, for a chance to get a shot at Ngannou. That's if they don't make a rematch with Stipe, and Ngannou. I don't like how the fights are organised sometimes, and this is much more prevalent in boxing, but Dana will be looking after the best interests of his pockets, rather than the fights fans want to see.
2911  Other / Meta / Re: Bitcointalk Youtube channel - what would you like to see? on: August 09, 2021, 08:57:30 PM
Mr Beast is actually a Bitcoin user. He has tweeted about it and gave away thousands of dollars in Bitcoin over Twitter. You never know, he may be willing to give a shout out or something if you got in contact with his team. He’s pretty good about not letting other people hijack his platform for clout, but maybe he’d be willing to do something for the chase if he really is a Bitcoiner… Can’t hurt to drop a few emails.
That might make it possible in the future then. Although, contacting him now would likely look like we were trying to leach from his platform. Something that we want to avoid doing, realistically we would probably need to be offering more to him, otherwise he'll likely be skeptical.

They're definitely big into censorship of words (not necessarily content, strangely enough).  I started watching Silence of the Lambs on Youtube the other day and was surprised to see that they'd censored out some profanity--in a movie with as dark a theme as SotL, too!
Absolute classic, you have good taste. Besides that though, surely Silence Of The Lambs is copyrighted, are you sure that it was Youtube that censored it, and not the video uploader? I find it weird that Youtube would review that video, censor out the bad words, but leave the video up considering it probably shouldn't be there in the first place. Unless you mean renting the movie off Youtube, don't they do something along those lines now?
2912  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: August 09, 2021, 08:52:49 PM
I think Stipe makes the most sense to me, but then again I'm probably bias, as I don't think Gane is ready for Ngannou. I don't know, I've been wrong multiple times about Gane, and he's won convincingly each time. So, I don't know logically to me he should get through Stipe first, since I'd probably make that Stipe VS Ngannou fight again, as that's been a lot of fun each time.

He probably have a gym at his own home and at workplace spending hours lifting those weights, and maybe doing some sparring with fighters who knows Smiley
I'd like to order one drug test for Dana please, nah I'm kidding obviously.

Jose Aldo is back again with a win after changing his weight categories all the time, and he is calling out for T.J. Dillashaw as his next opponent.

Lads I'm going to go out on a limb yet again, however TJ wins that fight convincingly.
2913  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread 2021/2022 on: August 09, 2021, 01:46:48 PM
What's the situation with Lautaro? I've wanted him at Liverpool for a number of years now to eventually take over Firminho. Plus, Liverpool desperately need a striker if Firminho doesn't crack on like was in previous seasons. Although, he does seem to thrive off the fans, so I'm expecting more from him this season. I still think they need a striker, and we could potentially drop Bobby back into midfield, and utilize his pressing. I'll be gutted if Spurs actually get him.

Also, I would factor in the new rule change this season with substitutions. It seems that they are allowing 9 players on the bench, instead of the usual 7 this season. Whether or not that's because of Covid or is a permanent change remains to be seen, but you've got to fancy the bigger squads to benefit from this. Especially, Manchester City or has a plethora of players that can play first team football for most teams in the league. Do note; only 3 subs can be made, but you get to have 9 players on the bench.
2914  Other / Meta / Re: Bitcointalk Youtube channel - what would you like to see? on: August 09, 2021, 01:20:38 PM
That's aiming pretty high, but if it ever were to happen I would love the chance to be able to donate something for the video or be involved somehow.  Would love to meet Jimmy and the team.  My current support has been confined to ordering Mr Beast Burgers and merchandise.  It's absolutely amazing what they've been able to accomplish using YouTube.  His philanthropy channel continues to grow and support more and more food banks.
Yeah, it was more in jest than anything. We are relatively small timers I guess, and I don't watch enough of MrBeast's content to know if he's even interested in Bitcoin? I only know of him, and the type of content he does. I believe he puts in almost all of his sponsorship earnings back into the channel, and that's why he's able to give away thousands, and sometimes millions of dollars per video.

  • this is a cool idea, hope someone will do it but might thing about doing it someday
  • ok let's do it, but it's gotta be reasonably perfect, with the huge risk of nothing actually being done
  • it's not going to be perfect, but someone has to do it!
I'm all too familiar with this process of thought. Whenever I'm tackling a somewhat complex problem, this is the exact thought process I go through. This is usually what prevents so many great ideas from actually becoming a reality. So, I'd definitely agree with the last thought process, someone has to do it.

Plus, it's not expected of you to make the most perfect product the first time trying. Usually Youtube channels or any project in general evolves over time. I mean look at Bitcoin in it's creation, it was obviously good, but there was many rough patches which were solved over time, with the community input. The process will roughly be the same, except the Youtube channel isn't open source, but the feedback will be the same.
2915  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Do poker and sports betting skills correlate? on: August 09, 2021, 01:11:15 PM
The more active users are, the more likely they are to participate in these types of events. I haven't checked personally, however I would assume that if you did check those users post history, they would have participated in loads of different games, and rounds threads.

Even if the sample data is too small to establish any accurate conclusion, I would be quite surprised if there was any correlation  between the two. They are totally different, and require different skill sets. Poker especially so.
2916  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: August 09, 2021, 01:07:12 PM
Like, I understand that Lewis doesn't throw much volume normally anyway, however what was that on the weekend? He threw like a couple of shots, and looked like he had ran a marathon. I'm not taking anything from Cyril Gane though, fully deserved, and now I've got to stand up, and actually take notice of him. I've always thought he might be a little over hyped, but he's proved me wrong yet again. I do still think Ngannou would make easy work of him in their current climate. I think he would do better to have a couple more fights to build his resume.
2917  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: August 06, 2021, 06:38:52 PM
Kowalkiewicz might get cut if she loses this one, which might actually play a part in the fight. She might be a little more motivated than she has previously, since its never a good idea to amount a big loss streak in the UFC. Unless, your Conor Mcgregor of course Cheesy

I've got most of my women match ups correct recently, except for the type of win, as I usually go for decisions, but there's been quite a few finishes as of recent. That's why I've put a TKO in for Penne.
2918  Other / Meta / Re: Is Bitcointalk.org losing user base? on: August 06, 2021, 06:22:47 PM
We know most forum users have different goals to join this forum, there are only some users who are really interested in getting to know bitcoin technically while others are bounty hunters, traders, gamblers and spammers and other. If bounties and signature campaign are removed or banned, the user base will decline rapidly. I am very sure of that.
Whether or not that is a positive or negative thing is subjective. I'm sure there are users here hoping that the community rids of the spam issue that signature campaigns bring, and go back to a more tight knitted community, while others are probably hoping for more, and more active users so that there's more potential to earn.
2919  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: August 06, 2021, 06:19:43 PM
Honestly, some of these predictions I've got listed below are a coin toss for me. I think there's some close fights mixed in, and the one I'm really not feeling confident for, but looking forward to watching is the Cassey Kennedy vs Song Yadong fight. I think it has the potential to be the fight of the night.

Derrick Lewis (TKO)
Jose Aldo (Decision)
Michael Chiesa
ecia Torres (decision)
Song Yadong
Bobby Green
Vince Morales
Alonzo Menifield
Jessica Penne (TKO)
Manel Kape
Anderson Dos Santos

In my opinion, this will be an easy win for Penne. After such an injury and such a long break, Kowalkiewicz will certainly not be able to mentally handle this fight. I think it's gonna be easy money betting on Penne.
Gone for a finish by her. I didn't check her outright win odds, but I imagine its pretty dire in terms of return.

2920  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread 2021/2022 on: August 06, 2021, 03:32:28 PM
Well, who wants to see Messi at Manchester City? Because if he moves to PSG, then the French will surely win all possible titles for the coming year.
I'd prefer to see him move to none of them, and to another club that isn't spending millions upon millions each season. I highly doubt that Manchester City will have the capability of bringing in Messi at least while complying with English league laws. There's also the Kane saga going on. Imagine if Manchester City managed to get Messi, Kane, and Grealish all in one transfer window. It would be ridiculous, and this also applies to PSG who has also had a absolutely ridiculous transfer window.
